Giants | Daniel Fells placed on IR    Mon Oct 5, 04:36 PM

New York Giants TE Daniel Fells (ankle) was placed on the season-ending Reserve/Injured list Monday, Oct. 5, due to a staph infection in his ankle. TE Will Tye was subsequently promoted from the practice squad.

Footballguys view: Free-agent TE Chris Cooley (Redskins) worked out with the Giants last week, and other tight ends could be brought in to work out as a potential replacement for Fells.

Giants | Chris Cooley trying out with Giants    Tue Sep 29, 10:53 AM

Free-agent TE Chris Cooley (Redskins) is working out for the New York Giants Tuesday, Sept. 29.

Footballguys view: The Giants are looking for tight end help with Larry Donnell ineffective. They might just be updating their emergency list here with Cooley. He hasn't played since 2012, so it's a bit curious why they would bring him in for a workout.

NFL | Chris Cooley might delay comeback    Mon Jul 27, 10:32 PM

Free-agent TE Chris Cooley (Redskins) is still considering a comeback, although he said Monday, July 27, in a radio interview that he does not anticipate a team signing him before the start of training camp. In addition, he is likely to join a contending team. 'It would probably have to be a team that realisitically has a chance of winning this year. Teams that don't have a chance of winning don't sign 33-year-old tight ends,' Cooley said.

Footballguys view: Jermaine Gresham was picked up by the Cardinals last week, so any team desperate for tight end help may turn to Cooley. We're not sold on him returning, and fantasy owners shouldn't be head over heels if he does get back into the league at this point in his career.

Redskins | Chris Cooley retires    Wed Jul 17, 10:18 PM

Washington Redskins TE Chris Cooley is retiring from the NFL and he will join the team's radio booth in 2013. Cooley was signed to a multi-year deal by ESPN 980 (980 AM), the team's flagship station in Washington. 'To add a talent and fan favorite like Chris to our team will add excitement to our broadcast and a level of unpredictability for our listeners,' the executive producer of the Redskins Radio Network said in a written statement.

Footballguys view: Cooley is a personality and should be able to provide entertaining analysis on Redskins games. The Redskins have moved on with Fred Davis, Logan Paulsen, rookie Jordan Reed (Florida), and Niles Paul at the TE position.

Redskins | Chris Cooley not upset about role     Mon Nov 26, 04:12 PM

Washington Redskins TE Chris Cooley has not caught a pass since joining the team but is not upset with his role on offense. 'I didn't know what to expect. I would have hoped for more at this point,' Cooley said. 'But it's fun to be a part of this team. It's fun to be a part of the two wins in a row. We'll see if we can get hot and make the playoffs.' He said he is not sure if he will have a bigger role in the offense moving forward.

Footballguys view: Cooley has little fantasy value and should be dropped in most leagues. Logan Paulsen is the Redskins TE to own if you need help at the position.

Redskins | Chris Cooley accepts limited role     Wed Nov 7, 10:08 AM

Washington Redskins TE Chris Cooley has played just 29 snaps over his first two weeks back with the team as TE Logan Paulsen has been receiving the majority of playing time. Cooley said he does not have an issue with the playing time. 'Honestly, I didn't know what to expect. I'm happy to be a part of whatever I can do,' Cooley said. 'Hopefully, for me, it grows throughout the season. But it's a good bunch of guys to be around and a good locker room, and I'm happy to do whatever I can, and if that's just being here and helping with the little details, then I'm happy to do that.' Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said that game matchups would determine whether or not Cooley saw a spike in playing time down the road.

Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said TE Chris Cooley is in shape, and said the Redskins won't know how his body responds to contact until after the team's Week 8 game.

Washington Redskins TE Chris Cooley said he is very excited about the opportunity to return to the team. Cooley is looking to fit in and help the team in any way.

Patriots | Contacted Chris Cooley    Thu Sep 20, 09:58 PM

Free-agent TE Chris Cooley (Redskins) said he was contacted by the New England Patriots before they decided to sign TE Kellen Winslow.

Footballguys view: Cooley reportedly has received some offers from interested teams but none of the offers involved a starting job. That's likely going to be the case even if teams have injuries at the position. Cooley isn't the same player he used to be and will have to wait for a new opportunity.

Redskins | Chris Cooley could come back    Wed Aug 29, 02:43 PM

The Washington Redskins could re-sign free-agent TE Chris Cooley at a reduced rate if he is not able to find a starting job elsewhere.

Footballguys view: That was always a possibility for Cooley. He was set to make nearly $4MM this season as a backup TE and that's why he was released. Injuries have robbed him of some athletic ability, and his fantasy value will be low no matter where he signs.

Redskins | Cut Chris Cooley    Tue Aug 28, 02:02 PM

The Washington Redskins cut TE Chris Cooley Tuesday, Aug. 28.

Footballguys view: The writing was on the wall for Cooley this offseason. The team moved Niles Paul to TE and that cramped the depth chart even more. Cooley had an near $4MM salary, and that wasn't going to fly as a backup. Injuries have robbed him of some physical ability but we think he could catch on with another team fairly soon. No matter where he lands his fantasy value will be extremely low.

Washington Redskins TE Chris Cooley hasn't missed any time to start training camp despite missing 11 games last season with a left knee injury. 'I have no concerns. My injuries from last year are feeling much better,' Cooley said. He noted he took his time working out during the offseason to slowly progress to where he needed to be. With the emergence of TE Fred Davis in the offense, Cooley needs to show he can still be a threat in the passing game and pile up yards after the catch. He also needs to prove he can stay healthy and on the field.

Redskins | Chris Cooley says he is running at full speed    Thu Jul 26, 09:48 PM

Washington Redskins TE Chris Cooley (knee) has been able to run at full speed at training camp after struggling with his running during offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: We feel Cooley could be on the roster bubble during training camp. He's due $3.8MM this year as a backup behind Fred Davis. The development of former WR Niles Paul (who is now playing TE), plus Cooley's performance in camp will determine his future with the team in 2012.

Redskins | Paul working at TE in OTAs    Mon May 21, 05:47 PM

John Keim, from the Washington Examiner, reports converted WR Niles Paul is still working at TE in OTAs.

Redskins | Chris Cooley not dealing with swelling    Sun May 6, 02:23 PM

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said TE Chris Cooley (knee) is not dealing with any swelling in his knee after workouts.

He may have to restructure his current contract to ensure his roster spot as he's set to make $3.8MM in base salary this year.

Buccaneers | Ex-teammate calls out Albert Haynesworth     Tue Nov 22, 11:30 AM

Washington Redskins TE Chris Cooley, a former teammates of Tampa Bay Buccaneers DL Albert Haynesworth, said Haynesworth does not really enjoy playing football despite his natural talent. 'The thing that I would think about Albert the way his last three years have played out, is that he hates football,' Cooley said. 'I'm not criticizing his character or his work or anything. My only assumption in this - and it's just an opinion - is that he does not like football, by what I've seen over the last three years. If he loved the game of football, he'd show up and love it.'
