Chicago Bears QB Todd Collins, the backup to QB Jay Cutler, will be demoted on the depth chart in favor of QB Caleb Hanie, according to ESPNChicago.com's Jeff Dickerson.

Bears | Todd Collins to start Week 5 Thu Oct 7, 12:41 PM
Chicago Bears QB Todd Collins will be the starting quarterback in Week 5 in place of QB Jay Cutler (concussion), reports Larry Mayer, of ChicagoBears.com.
Footballguys view: Jay Cutler is out and veteran Todd Collins is in. We'll see if the Panthers try to copycat what the Giants did against the Bears last Sunday. If Carolina can get pressure on Collins then it could be a long day for the Bears. This news obviously drops the projections for the receivers, but could slightly increase the numbers for RB Matt Forte. |

Bears | Two to compete for No. 2 QB job Mon Aug 23, 06:13 PM
Chicago Bears QB Caleb Hanie and Todd Collins will compete for the primary backup job during the remainder of the preseason, reports Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Tribune.
Footballguys view: Collins has experience in the Martz system even though this is the first time he's played for the OC. While Martz was moving the ball all over the field in St. Louis in the 'Greatest Show on Turf', Collins was in Kansas City working under Dick Vermeil in the same offense. We'll see if Caleb Hanie can keep his job as the primary backup behind Cutler when he comes back from his shoulder injury. |

Bears | Todd Collins signed Mon Aug 23, 11:05 AM
The Chicago Bears have signed free-agent QB Todd Collins (Redskins) to a one-year deal, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: The Bears are concerned with their QB depth since Caleb Hanie is missing time in the preaseason because of a shoulder injury. That's why they signed Collins today, and it's why they signed Matt Gutierrez last week. Rookie QB Dan LeFevour has a lot of work to do if he ever wants to develop into a quality player. |

Redskins | Unsure of QB situation Mon Oct 19, 01:24 PM
Barry Svrluga and Jason Reid, of The Washington Post, report Washington Redskins head coach Jim Zorn said he is unsure which quarterback will start against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 7. QB Jason Campbell was replaced by backup QB Todd Collins Sunday, Oct. 18. 'Right now, I'm going to just evaluate what I'm going on,' Zorn said. 'I still have confidence in what Jason can do.'
Footballguys view: Coach Zorn said that the decision is entirely up to him, and we think the Redskins could choose not to make that decision public until right before kickoff. Collins didn't exactly blow the competition away when he came in the game, but the Redskins are in a tailspin and at this point are looking for something to mix things up and energize this team. |

We will have to see."

Redskins | Campbell benched vs. Kansas City Sun Oct 18, 02:58 PM
Washington Redskins QB Jason Campbell, after hitting nine of 16 passes for 89 yards with an interception, has been benched for backup QB Todd Collins.

Redskins | Collins wins backup QB job Mon Aug 24, 08:08 PM
Jason Reid, of the Washington Post, reports that QB Todd Collins has won the Redskins backup QB job, and Chase Daniel and Colt Brennan will now compete to be the #3. "We saw that Todd was not willing to kind of bow down and give up his No. 2 spot," head coach Jim Zorn said. "So the competition is for the No. 3 spot, and Chase is making a statement about that."
Footballguys view: Brennan has his cult following, but it doesn't seem like there are any members in the Redskins organization right now. |

Redskins | Lombardi: Collins should be starter at QB Sun Aug 23, 12:46 PM
Michael Lombardi, of the National Football Post, reports that he thinks that Todd Collins gives the Redskins the best chance to win right now, and he, not Jason Campbell "needs to be made the starter".
Footballguys view: Lombardi has spent a lot of time around the league, and while he is just a commentator at this point, if he's thinking this, then others are too. With the vote of no confidence in Campbell put in by the organization in the offseason, it makes sense that Campbell could be on a short leash. We wouldn't trust him as your backup fantasy QB unless your starter is one of the elite three (Brady/Brees/Manning). |

Redskins | Collins, Brennan competing for No. 2 job Thu Jun 11, 12:07 PM
Matt Mosley, of ESPN.com, reports Washington Redskins QB Todd Collins and QB Colt Brennan are competing for the team's primary backup quarterback job.
Footballguys view: Collins is the 11-year veteran, and Brennan is the 2nd year QB from Hawaii. Brennan was a record setting QB in college, but looked unimpressive in his final bowl game against Georgia, fell ill during the Senior Bowl which caused him to lose 20 pounds, and thus slipped all the way to the 6th round in the 2008 NFL Draft. He looked good in the preseason last year and the Redskins feel like he's ready to compete for the backup job because Collins can't play forever. |
