Footballguys view: Fantasy GMs were curious to see how Coleman was going to be utilized and we got a clear picture of that on Monday night. San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman (ankle), WR Jalen Hurd (back) and WR Trent Taylor (foot) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 2 versus the Cincinnati Bengals. LB Mark Nzeocha (illness) and OT Joe Staley (non-injury) were full participants in practice Friday and no longer appear on the injury report.

Footballguys view: Bosa could have a big game vs. the Bengals weak offensive line if he's healthy enough to play but it's fair to wonder if he will make it through this one healthy, which adds risk to his IDP outlook this week.

49ers | Tevin Coleman has high ankle sprain    Mon Sep 9, 05:11 PM

Updating previous reports, San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman (ankle) has been diagnosed with a high ankle sprain and will miss some time, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Footballguys view: Coleman is considered week-to-week and will not be placed on the Reserve/Injured list. We all know that high ankle sprains can linger if not given enough time to heal, and that might take a few weeks. We'll see Matt Breida as the lead back with Raheem Mostert as his primary backup while Coleman is out.

49ers | Tevin Coleman injury update    Mon Sep 9, 12:27 PM

Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman (ankle) suffered an ankle sprain in Week 1 that will likely force him to miss time, although the team has yet to determine the exact severity of the injury.

Footballguys view: The 49ers have Matt Breida as their top back, and without Coleman we'll just see more from Raheem Mostert. In fact, Mostert led the team with 40 yards rushing on Sunday against the Buccaneers.

49ers | Tevin Coleman considered lead back    Mon Jun 24, 01:37 AM

San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman is considered the odds-on favorite to be the closest thing to a lead back, beat writer Matt Maiocco suggests, especially since he has a history in head coach Kyle Shanahan's system.

Footballguys view: Coleman deserves a pick in the mid rounds because he could have the job Week 1 and then hold it as long as he performs. His redraft value is going to surge over the summer unless he gets hurt.

49ers | Tevin Coleman set for 1,000 yards?    Sat Jun 1, 09:53 PM

San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman's 'pass-catching prowess' should put him at the top of the depth chart, in the opinion of Bucky Brooks of NFL.com, and Brooks believes Coleman can be a 1,000-yard rusher in head coach Kyle Shanahan's offense.

Footballguys view: Coleman is the healthiest back and probably the best pass catcher among the 49ers quartet, and he also has the best touchdown scoring track record. He's the most valuable back for fantasy, and as long as the positive buzz continues, his value will rise. He's still modestly priced for a proven back in a good offense.

49ers | Tevin Coleman may receive most touches    Sat May 25, 03:28 PM

San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman probably will receive the most touches among the running backs this upcoming season, in the opinion of NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco.

Footballguys view: Maiocco is skeptical that Jerick McKinnon can return all the way to form after tearing his ACL in camp last year. Coleman is the most valuable back right now, but his durability record isn't spotless either. The shark move here might be drafting the cheapest back (Matt Breida, currently sidelined by a pectoral tear), and keeping Raheem Mostert (currently recovering from a second procedure on a broken forearm) on waiver wire speed dial.

49ers | 3-headed RB monster in San Fran?    Thu May 16, 12:34 PM

San Francisco 49ers RB Matt Breida said Wednesday, May 15, the team could feature a three-man running back rotation also involving Jerick McKinnon and Tevin Coleman. 'They've talked to us about it,' Breida said. 'They've said, 'Hey, we're going to use all you guys.' All three of us are going to be used a lot. I don't want to give away any secrets, but we're all going to be used in the offense.' It's still too early/unclear how snaps will be divided.

Footballguys view: This would be a problem for Fantasy GMs trying to manage a weekly starting lineup. We'll get a better feel about this clear RBBC in training camp and the preseason. At this time, the earliest drafted 49ers running back is Tevin Coleman at RB30 (6.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

49ers | Nothing decided yet in San Fran's backfield    Fri Apr 5, 02:11 PM

San Francisco 49ers RBs Tevin Coleman Jerick McKinnon, Matt Breida, Jeffery Wilson and Raheem Mostert will ultimately decide who plays and how much each one plays, according to comments made by head coach Kyle Shanahan on the Adam Schefter podcast recently.'Everyone keeps asking me that like I'm in charge of that or something,' Shanahan said with a laugh. 'It's up to the players. They will define their roles. That's kind of what's unique about this.'

Footballguys view: The 49ers have a collection of backs with similar skill sets. They're likely to use some form of RBBC, mainly featuring Coleman and Breida. We'll see if McKinnon (or any of the other backs on the roster) can work themselves into the mix.

San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman is expected to lead what could be a group of four active running backs on game days this season. Coleman and fellow RBs Jerick McKinnon, Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert would comprise the foursome.

Footballguys view: It's going to be a cluster you-know-what for Fantasy GMs. We'll have to see how much of the workload Coleman gets and how the touches are split between the guys behind him before we know how to project this RB corps.

Free-agent RB Tevin Coleman (Falcons) agreed to terms on a two-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers Wednesday, March 13, worth $10 million, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Coleman is familiar with Kyle Shanahan from their days together in Atlanta when Shanahan was the offensive coordinator and they made a Super Bowl run. He's set to compete for the top spot in San Francisco, with Matt Breida (and may Jerrick McKinnon) in line to be his biggest competition.

Eagles | Philly has interest in Tevin Coleman    Fri Mar 8, 02:31 PM

Free-agent RB Tevin Coleman (Falcons) will be squarely on the radar of the Philadelphia Eagles when free agency opens, according to NFL Network's Mike Garofolo, who adds the Eagles will have company when it comes to competing for his services.

Footballguys view: The Eagles have a clustered backfield right now and that may not be attractive for Coleman. He may want to get a chance to be a featured runner for his next NFL team. We'll see if the Eagles can outbid other teams (Denver?) for his services.

Jets | Tevin Coleman a target for NYJ?    Sat Feb 9, 09:18 PM

Atlanta Falcons impending free-agent RB Tevin Coleman could be signed by the New York Jets to lead their backfield in 2019, according to Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com.

Footballguys view: The Jets should be in the market for RB help via free agency. They may cut RB Isaiah Crowell and not pursue impending free-agent RB Bilal Powell. That leaves Eli McGuire and Trenton Cannon in their backfield to be change-of-pace backs. Coleman is an option, but we think C.J. Anderson might be on their list too.

Atlanta Falcons impending free-agent RB Tevin Coleman may not re-sign with the Falcons this offseason since the Falcons have RB Devonta Freeman under contract through the 2022 season, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Vaughn McClure.

Footballguys view: The Falcons also have Ito Smith and Brian Hill, so they have no reason to overpay Coleman when a team that wants to give him a larger role and more cap room will. His dynasty value is very volatile right now.
