Jets | Laveranues Coles released Sun Aug 29, 01:19 PM
The New York Jets have released WR Laveranues Coles, reports ESPNNewYork.com's Rich Cimini. The move might just be procedural, though, because if Coles was on the roster for opening day, his 2010 salary would be guaranteed. If the Jets re-sign him in Week 2, his $855,000 salary wouldn't be guaranteed. Coles is expected to retire if the Jets don't re-sign him.

Jets | Coles likely not an option Mon Apr 12, 11:41 AM
Rich Cimini, of the New York Daily News, reports the New York Jets' acquisition of WR Santonio Holmes from the Pittsburgh Steelers all but eliminates the possibility of the team signing free-agent WR Laveranues Coles (Bengals). With Holmes, WRs Jerricho Cotchery and Braylon Edwards, the Jets have three starting-caliber receivers. WR Brad Smith, who recently signed his one-year tender as a restricted free agent, will be the No. 4 receiver.

Jets | Have not ruled out signing Coles Wed Mar 24, 06:39 PM
Burt Hubbuch, of the New York Post, reports New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said the Jets have not ruled out the possibility of signing unrestricted free-agent WR Laveranues Coles (Bengals).
Footballguys view: Coles is very familiar with the Jets organization having spent 7 of his 10 seasons with the team in two different stints. If the Jets bring him in it would be so he could compete for the slot receiver position with the likes of David Clowney and Brad Smith. We also expect the Jets to add a receiver in the 2010 NFL Draft, but not with a premium pick. |

Jets | Have interest in Coles Mon Mar 8, 10:42 AM
Rich Cimini, of the New York Daily News, reports the New York Jets have not ruled out the possibility of signing free-agent WR Laveranues Coles (Bengals).
Footballguys view: We expect the Jets to take their time before making a decision on Coles, and they could wait until after the draft to make any sort of decision regarding the veteran receiver. Coles is unlikely to draw much interest from around the league, but could be an option for the Jets - provided he would agree to a modest one-year deal. |

Bengals | Palmer not worried about Coles drops Tue Sep 15, 12:29 AM
Geoff Hobson, of Bengals.com, reports that Cincinnati QB Carson Palmer is not worried about WR Laveranues Coles multiple drops vs. Denver. Palmer said, "I don't have a worry in the world about Laveranues. He dropped the ball, but I missed plenty of balls, we missed blocks -- a number of things happened offensively. Knowing Laveranues, and knowing the type of pro he is, he'll come in with the right type of mindset and shake it off. You won't see that from him again."
Footballguys view: Palmer is a classy leader, and that's the right thing to say, but no one who watched the game on Sunday would think that Cincinnati is better off with Coles in than they are with Chris Henry in the lineup. |

Bengals | Coles happy in a complimentary role Sat Jun 20, 08:34 PM
The Bengals signed Coles as a free agent in March, the day after top receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh left for Seattle as a free agent. The Bengals insist Coles, who played with Washington and the New York Jets, isn't being viewed as Houshmandzadeh's replacement in the offense. "I love T.J.," receiver Chad Ochocinco said during the team's three-day minicamp. "T.J.'s gone. Laveranues is here. They're two different types of players -- completely different. They have two different types of styles, but they will both be successful."
Footballguys view: Coles has pretty much kept to himself during minicamps and isn't talking much to the media. His teammates on the other hand can't stop raving about Coles. Carson Palmer loves Coles' versatility and expects him to add a dimension to the passing game they haven't had before. "Throughout his seven years here, (Houshmandzadeh) played one specific position," Palmer said. "Laveranues is learning three right now. So he's very versatile. He plays extremely tough. He loves to block. He loves to do the little things. He's complete." |
