Titans | B.J. Coleman works out    Thu Nov 13, 10:19 AM

Free-agent QB B.J. Coleman (Packers) worked out for the Tennessee Titans Tuesday, Nov. 11.

Footballguys view: Coleman originally started his college career at the University of Tennessee. He transferred to Tennessee-Chatanooga and was a late-round darling by some in the draftnik community. Coleman didn't latch on for very long with the Packers, but he has a strong arm and can execute crisp play fakes.

Patriots | Work out 11 players    Fri Sep 6, 06:44 PM

The New England Patriots worked out free-agent QB Austin Davis (Rams), QB B.J. Coleman (Packers), QB Graham Harrell (Jets), RB Damien Berry (Ravens), RB Jonathan Dwyer (Steelers), RB Cameron Marshall (Dolphins), WR Josh Bellamy (Chiefs), WR Chad Bumphis (Dolphins), DT Sione Fua (Panthers), DT Clinton McDonald (Seahawks) and DT Andre Neblett (Buccaneers) Friday, Sept. 6.

Footballguys view: Dwyer is the most talented name on the list, but the Patriots are only doing these tryouts to have a pool of players to choose from if they suffer injuries at these positions.

Packers | B.J. Coleman cut    Mon Sep 2, 11:29 AM

The Green Bay Packers waived QB B.J. Coleman.

Footballguys view: Coleman just wasn't getting it done. He has a strong arm and runs play action fakes well. However, his accuracy and decision making need a lot of work. The Packers added Seneca Wallace to be the primary backup behind Aaron Rodgers.

49ers | B.J. Daniels in mix for No. 2 QB job    Sat Aug 17, 11:53 AM

San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said QB B.J. Daniels has joined the competition for the No. 2 quarterback job. Coleman went 6-for-9 for 72 yards and one touchdown in the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 16.

Footballguys view: Daniels is in the mix along with Colt McCoy and Scott Tolzien. The athletic rookie from South Florida can evade the rush with ease. However, he struggles with accuracy when on the run.

Packers | All four QBs will play in preseason game    Thu Aug 8, 02:22 PM

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said QBs Aaron Rodgers, Vince Young, Graham Harrell and B.J. Coleman will all see playing time during the first preseason game.

Footballguys view: We may not see much from Rodgers in their first preseason game. However, we should see more of the backups because they need to get work and establish pecking order. Young has a good chance to win the backup job behind Rodgers as Harrell and Coleman have struggled to make a positive impression.

Packers | B.J. Coleman throws two picks at practice    Sun Aug 4, 11:29 AM

Green Bay Packers QB B.J. Coleman threw two interceptions during practice Saturday, Aug. 3, with one of the interceptions being returned for a touchdown.

Footballguys view: Coleman was known for having a gunslinger mentality in college as he has ultimate confidence in his strong arm. He has to be safer with the ball if he wants to beat out Graham Harrell for the backup job behind Aaron Rodgers.

Packers | Backup QBs splitting reps    Fri Jul 26, 02:05 PM

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said Friday, July 26, that QBs B.J. Coleman and Graham Harrell are splitting reps down the middle, and they will both have an opportunity to win the backup job in training camp and the preseason season.

Packers | Will have competition for No. 2 QB job    Sat Jul 20, 11:15 AM

Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Ben McAdoo said the team will give QBs Graham Harrell and B.J. Coleman even reps during training camp and allow them to compete for the No. 2 quarterback job.

Footballguys view: Harrell offers little as an emergency starter. His arm is weak and he struggles with decision making under pressure. Coleman has a rocket arm and can run play fakes effectively. We like Coleman's ability to quickly diagnose coverage but he needs to stop forcing passes. Harrell has more experience as Coleman is entering his second year.

Packers | B.J. Coleman not pushing for No. 2 QB job    Thu Jun 6, 02:13 PM

Green Bay Packers QB B.J. Coleman does not appear to have done anything this offseason to push QB Graham Harrell for the No. 2 quarterback job.

Footballguys view: This contradicts an earlier report out of Packers minicamp. Coleman has a rocket arm but needs to make better decisions as a passer or he may end up on the practice squad again this year. Harrell is a poor backup QB and it would be a major blow for the Packers if Aaron Rodgers missed even a little time due to injury.

Packers | B.J. Coleman could push for No. 2 QB job    Mon May 13, 03:03 PM

Green Bay Packers QB B.J. Coleman could compete with QB Graham Harrell for the No. 2 quarterback job during offseason workouts and training camp.

Footballguys view: Coleman has much better arm strength than Harrell does. He also has looked much improved in minicamp this year compared to last. The Packers are known for developing QBs (Mark Brunell, Matt Hasselbeck, Aaron Brooks, Matt Flynn) so dynasty owners need to have Coleman on their radar.

Packers | Graham Harrell could face competition for No. 2 QB job    Fri May 3, 02:03 PM

Green Bay Packers QB Graham Harrell is expected to compete with QB B.J. Coleman and possibly QB Matt Brown for the No. 2 quarterback job this offseason.

Footballguys view: Harrell is one of the most questionable backups in the league today. He lacks the arm strength and decision making skills to be an effective starter. It's a risk for the Packers to have him as the primary backup behind Aaron Rodgers. Coleman is likely to the biggest threat to challenge Harrell for the backup job. He's got a big arm, can run good play fakes, and loves to challenge defenses vertically.

Packers | Eight signed to futures contracts    Mon Jan 14, 05:53 PM

The Green Bay Packers have signed QB B.J. Coleman, TE Brandon Bostick, C Garth Gerhart, OG Joe X. Gibbs, OT Andrew Datko, LB Micah Johnson, CB James Nixon and SS Chaz Powell to futures contracts. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: We love the upside of Coleman in deep dynasty leagues. He runs clean playfakes and looks like Peyton Manning when going through his motion. Coleman studied Manning's tape when he was at Tennessee and has a very strong arm. He needs to make better decisions under pressure, but could develop nicely under Mike McCarthy.

Packers | Eight signed to practice squad     Mon Sep 3, 11:25 AM

The Green Bay Packers announced Monday, Sept. 3, that they have signed WR Diondre Borel, TE Brandon Bostick, QB B.J. Coleman, OT Andrew Datko, DE Lawrence Guy, OL Chris Scott, RB Marc Tyler and OG Greg Van Roten to their practice squad.

Footballguys view: We like the developmental upside of B.J. Coleman here. He's got a rocket arm, is an aggressive passer, and knows how to effectively execute a play fake. Coleman could develop nicely in the Packers system.

Packers | 17 players released    Fri Aug 31, 10:21 PM

The Green Bay Packers pared their roster down to 53 players Friday, Aug. 31, by releasing OT Shea Allard, WR Diondre Borel, TE Brandon Bostick, QB B.J. Coleman, FB Nicholas Cooper, OT Andrew Datko, OL Tommie Draheim, OL Sampson Genus, WR Curenski Gilleylen, WR Tori Gurley, DE Lawrence Guy, SS Anthony Levine, CB Otis Merrill, WR Dale Moss, RB Marc Tyler, OG Greg Van Roten and OL Reggie Wells.

Footballguys view: Undrafted rookie Jarrett Boykin beat out Borel and Gurley for a roster spot despite both creating buzz at different points this offseason. He's a name to remember in deep dynasty leagues.

Packers | Expected to keep two QBs    Mon Jul 2, 01:11 PM

The Green Bay Packers are expected to keep only two quarterbacks on their final roster unless QB B.J. Coleman has a very impressive preseason.

Footballguys view: We like Coleman as a deep dynasty prospect to keep an eye on. If he doesn't make the final roster the Packers could always choose to develop him on the Practice Squad. Coleman has a rocket arm, and executes play fakes just like his idol Peyton Manning.

Packers | Destination for Colt McCoy?     Mon Jun 18, 10:52 AM

The Green Bay Packers seem to make the most sense as a trade destination for Cleveland Browns QB Colt McCoy. The Packers currently have QBs Graham Harrell and B.J. Coleman behind starting QB Aaron Rodgers.

Footballguys view: Harrell is not an impressive backup QB and this could be a big problem for the Packers. They need an experienced and talented backup behind Aaron Rodgers, so trading for McCoy makes sense.

Packers | B.J. Coleman is No. 3 QB for now    Sun Jun 17, 08:42 PM

The Green Bay Packers selected QB B.J. Coleman in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He is bigger and stronger than QB Graham Harrell, but he is not a serious challenge for the No. 2 QB job because of the jump in sophistication of an offseason from a lower level Division I college to the NFL. 'B.J.'s exciting, he's a whirl a minute, he has a lot of questions, he's always talking, a lot of energy,' head coach Mike McCarthy said. 'Talented young man, but he's got a lot to learn.'

Footballguys view: Coleman is one of our favorite deep sleepers to keep an eye on in dynasty leagues. His play fakes and the way he sets up in the pocket looks exactly like his idol, Broncos QB Peyton Manning. Coleman has a rocket arm and needs to work on his accuracy and decision making.

Packers | Four draft choices signed    Fri May 11, 01:16 PM

The Green Bay Packers have signed second-round draft choice CB Casey Hayward, fourth-round draft choice DT Mike Daniels, fifth-round draft choice LB Terrell Manning and seventh-round draft choice QB B.J. Coleman. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Deep dynasty league owners need to keep an eye on Coleman's development. He's big, has a very strong arm, and is known as a hard worker. Green Bay knows how to develop QB talent and Coleman could be the next one.

Packers | Not looking to add veteran backup QB    Sun Apr 29, 03:13 PM

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said the team will not be looking to sign a veteran quarterback to backup QB Aaron Rodgers. McCarthy said QBs Graham Harrell, Nick Hill and B.J. Coleman likely will be competing for two jobs.

Footballguys view: We love the addition of Coleman in the seventh-round. He's big, tall, has a strong arm, and sets up quickly in the pocket. Coleman looks like Peyton Manning when he runs a play fake but needs to work on his accuracy and consistency.
