Jets | David Clowney might not make final cuts    Thu Sep 2, 12:30 PM

New York Jets WR David Clowney is on the bubble for making the final team, and head coach Rex Ryan wants to see some more consistency from him on special teams, reports the New York Daily News' Kevin Armstrong. 'He's made some plays on special teams, but we want to see that consistency,' Ryan said. 'So far he's still a little inconsistent in special-teams play.' Ryan and special teams coordinator Mike Westhoff have said Clowney, who has been used as a gunner in the preseason, needs to stop being broken down by the single press. Ryan praised Clowney's ability to recover fumbles, though he wanted to see more speed on the field. Clowney also offers explosiveness as a wide receiver on go routes and straight sprints.

Jets | Cotchery hints that he may rest his hamstring this week    Wed Oct 14, 11:37 AM

Manish Mehta, of the Newark Star-Ledger, reports that Jets WR Jerricho Cotchery said on WFAN that he has overworked his injured hamstring and he may sit out next week's game vs the Bills to allow the injury to completely heal.

Footballguys view: The Jets probably don't need Cotchery to win the game with David Clowney and Braylon Edwards playing well, so we wouldn't trust Cotchery this week, even if he's active - we saw on Monday night that he is no lock to produce with this injury.

Footballguys view: Clowney was apparently only suffered from cramps. He's a good pickup in non-PPR leagues for as long as Jerricho Cotchery.

Jets | Twitter reason for Clowney being inactive for Week 3    Mon Sep 28, 06:57 PM

Dave Hutchinson, of the Newark Star-Ledger, reports New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said the reason WR David Clowney was inactive for Week 3 was because Clowney complained about his playing time in Week 2 on his Twitter page. 'I'm not a big Twitter guy, but you hear different things. To me, this is about our team and understanding this is about our team. No individual is bigger than the team,' Ryan said.

Footballguys view: Surely this will cause another wave of players to "retire" from Twitter.

Jets | Stuckey wins #2 WR job    Tue Sep 8, 06:56 PM

Dave Hutchinson, of the Newark Star-Ledger, reports that Chansi Stuckey has won the #2 WR job for the New York Jets.

Footballguys view: Stuckey might have marginal value in deep PPR leagues, but he is the #3 target in an offense with a rookie QB that will lean on the run.

Jets | Clowney front-runner for #2 WR job    Wed Aug 26, 09:43 PM

M.A. Mehta, of the Newark Star-Ledger, reports that WR David Clowney worked with the first-team offense on Wednesday, August 26, and that he appears to be the front-runner for the #2 WR job.

Footballguys view: Chansi Stuckey will still have a role in the slot, even if Clowney starts, and Dustin Keller's clear role as the #2 target in the passing offense will keep either one from having significant fantasy value no matter who comes out on top.

Jets | Clowney catches touchdown pass Friday    Fri Aug 14, 10:30 PM

The Associated Press reports New York Jets WR David Clowney caught three passes for 102 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown pass, during the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 14.

Footballguys view: No matter who is throwing the ball, David Clowney seems to have a knack for catching long TDs in the preseason. Last year, he made a training camp star out of Brett Ratliff, this year, he might help Mark Sanchez win the starting QB job and help Erik Ainge make the final roster.

Jets | No one seizing the WR2 job    Sun Aug 9, 08:20 PM

The New York Post is reporting Rex Ryan, who's in search of a second starting WR opposite Jerricho Cotchery has been mildly disappointed that no one has stepped up for the No. 2 spot, said he joked with WRs coach and former NFL WR Henry Ellard, saying, "Henry might be the best receiver on the field for us.''

Footballguys view: Ouch. The #2 wide receiver is actually the third or fourth target on the team behind WR Jerricho Cotchery, TE Dustin Keller, and RB Leon Washington. Brad Smith, Chansi Stuckey, David Clowney and Wallace Wright are all competing for that spot and the team is waiting for someone to elevate their game.

Jets | Team exploring WR market?    Thu Jul 30, 09:07 AM

Rich Cimini, of the New York Daily News, reports that he hears the Jets are "exploring the veteran receiver market".

Footballguys view: The Jets have a cast of possible #2 wide receivers that possess one skill you'd look for in a starter, but none are well-rounded receivers, so this makes sense.

Jets | Clowney works with first team Thursday    Thu May 14, 03:50 PM

Rich Cimini, of the New York Daily News, reports New York Jets WR David Clowney worked with the first-team offense during practice Thursday, May 14.

Footballguys view: He's ahead of Brad Smith currently but that's not saying much. Jerricho Cotchery is the primary weapon in the passing game, and TE Dustin Keller is actually the #2 target. Chansi Stuckey has been playing in the slot when the Jets go to a 3 WR set. Clowney showed that he could be a good deep threat but we're not expecting him to be much of a fantasy force in 2009.

Jets | Clowney believes he is building chemistry with Ratliff    Wed Apr 15, 05:54 PM

Dave Hutchinson, of the Newark Star-Ledger, reports New York Jets WR David Clowney said he believes he is building a chemistry with QB Brett Ratliff. 'Yeah, we definitely had some chemistry going there,' said Clowney. 'And we kind of took that through practice during the year after I came back from my injury. Hopefully, we can do that same thing this year coming into training camp and the preseason.'
