Panthers | Toney Clemons cut    Sun Aug 24, 02:01 PM

The Carolina Panthers have released WR Toney Clemons.

Footballguys view: Clemons was an intriguing prospect in super deep dynasty leagues when he came out of Colorado in 2012. If he can't make a WR-needy Panthers team, then it's time for fantasy owners in such leagues to move on.

The Carolina Panthers signed WR Toney Clemons (Jaguars) to a futures deal Thursday, Jan. 2. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Keep an eye on Clemons in super deep dynasty leagues. He's a talented young receiver who can get open with ease. Clemons also has strong hands, and he can make difficult catches seem routine.

Jaguars | Release 20 players    Fri Aug 30, 06:01 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars have released WR Jeremy Ebert, DE Pannel Egboh, RB Jonathan Grimes, LB Brandon M. Marshall, WR Charly Martin, OT Pat McQuistan, OG Drew Nowak, CB Kevin Rutland, DT D'Anthony Smith, LB Julian Stanford, CB Marcus Trufant, WR Toney Clemons, DE Ryan Davis, OT T.J. Barnes, OT R.J. Dill, TE Ryan Otten, WR Tobias Palmer, QB Matt Scott, SS Steven Terrell and LB Michael Zimmer.

Footballguys view: Scott, Otten, and Palmer are all practice squad types to watch, especially Scott because of his mobility and the Jaguars' relative vacuum at long-term quarterback.

Steelers | Eight signed to practice squad    Sat Sep 1, 02:34 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed OG John Malecki, OL Ryan Lee, WR David Gilreath, WR Toney Clemons, TE Jamie McCoy, LB Marshall McFadden, CB Josh Victorian and FS DaMon Cromartie-Smith to their practice squad.

Footballguys view: Clemons is an interesting prospect to watch in super deep dynasty leagues. The Steelers have hit on a few WRs in recent drafts (Mike Wallace, Antonio Brown, Emmanuel Sanders) and Clemons has an intriguing skill set. He can adjust to poorly thrown passes and has good body control as a route runner.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have released QB Jerrod Johnson, OT Trai Essex, WR Derrick Williams, FS DaMon Cromartie-Smith, WR David Gilreath, WR Marquis Maze and WR Toney Clemons.

Footballguys view: Clemons and Maze are both practice squad candidates. Maze is a special teams/return man/slot receiver, and Clemons is a raw, but talented receiver. The Steelers may carry only four wide receivers into the regular season.

Steelers | Toney Clemons agrees to terms    Tue May 8, 06:35 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers agreed to terms with their seventh-round pick WR Toney Clemons on a three-year deal Tuesday, May 8. Financial terms weren't given.

Footballguys view: We loved the addition of Clemons late in the 2012 NFL Draft. Our very own Cecil Lammey watched Clemons up close during the week of practice for the Players All Star Classic in Little Rock, AR earlier this year and came away impressed. Clemons is a big WR who plucks the ball out of the air with arms extended away from his body. He also does a good job of boxing out defenders with his big frame. The Steelers have an eye for WR talent, and Clemons could develop into a quality depth WR in the near future.

Steelers | Pleased to land Toney Clemons    Sun Apr 29, 10:10 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said the team was pleased to land WR Toney Clemons in the seventh round of the NFL Draft. 'We're excited. We think (Clemons) has a chance to compete for that spot,' Tomlin said. 'We were really happy to get him where we got him.'

Footballguys view: The Steelers know how to draft WRs as evidenced by Mike Wallace, Antonio Brown, and Emmanuel Sanders. Clemons impressed our very own Cecil Lammey at the Players All Star Classic in Little Rock earlier this year. He's a big WR who has good ball skills, body control, and sideline awareness.

Steelers | Meeting with four prospects    Wed Apr 18, 12:16 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers are meeting with University of Arkansas WR Greg Childs, University of Colorado WR Toney Clemons, University of Cincinnati TE Adrien Robinson and Southern Methodist OL Kelvin Beachum Wednesday, April 18.

Footballguys view: Our very own Cecil Lammey was impressed by Clemons during the week of practice for the Players All Star Classic earlier this year. On film he showed good my ball mentality, strong hands, and the body control to make difficult catches. He's seen as a late round pick, but will be a good value pick and should develop into a quality reserve WR and special teams player.
