NFL | Greg Childs may have torn Achilles' tendon    Wed Jun 3, 10:33 PM

Free-agent WR Greg Childs (Achilles', knees) appears to have torn an Achilles' tendon Wednesday, June 3. Childs was recovering from dual torn patella tendons while a member of the Minnesota Vikings.

Footballguys view: Childs has an injury history that reads like Infinite Jest. The dude just can't stay healthy, and his playing days in the NFL are likely done. His story will always read "what might have been."

Jets | Work out several players    Wed Dec 24, 02:15 AM

The New York Jets worked out several free agents earlier in the week, including WR Joe Morgan (Saints), QB Bryn Renner, QB Eric Ward (Canadian Football League), WR Greg Childs (Vikings), QB Dominique Davis, LB Brandon Denmark and LB Aaron Hester (Lions).

Footballguys view: There's no word on whether or not the Jets are going to sign any of these guys. Fantasy owners in super super deep dynasty leagues should monitor all of these players, especially the quarterbacks.

Jaguars | Invite 27 players to minicamp    Thu May 15, 04:26 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars have invited 27 players to participate in a two-day minicamp beginning Friday, May 16. The invited players include: RB Beau Blankenship (Ohio), OT Kyle Bryant (Youngstown State), OL Antoine Caldwell (Bills), OL Jamey Cheatwood (Coastal Carolina), WR Greg Childs (Vikings), OG Jordan Davis (East Carolina), FB Ryan Eppes (South Florida), CB Sean Evans (Northern Illinois), LB Dozie Ezemma (West Virginia), DE Mark Garrick (Nevada-Las Vegas), DB Andrew Green (Nebraska), SS Jerome Junior (Winston Salem-State), SS Sean Maag (Central Florida), DB Chris Pickett (Troy), CB Randy Ponder (Missouri), DE Albert Presley (Akron), DT Brian Price (Cowboys), OL Nate Richards (Rice), DT Kayvon Sherrill (Florida Atlantic), LB Spencer Shuey (Clemson), CB Dominique Wheeler (Valdosta State), SS Jeremi Wilkes (Syracuse), DE Tim Willman (Connecticut) and WR Brandon Wimberly (Nevada).

Footballguys view: The Jaguars are looking to change everything up and will leave no stone unturned. Most players won't make the cut but you never know where a diamond in the rough will show up. In super deep dynasty leagues we'd keep an eye on Greg Childs. His knees may be shot after multiple severe injuries, but if healthy he could make the final roster.

Vikings | Release Greg Childs    Thu Mar 6, 03:41 PM

The Minnesota Vikings released WR Greg Childs Thursday, March 6.

Footballguys view: It's unfortunate that Childs never got the chance to hit the field, hampered by injuries leaving college and in training camp. He may see another chance elsewhere, assuming his knees prove stable.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said WR Greg Childs (knee) will remain on the Physically Unable to Perform list for the rest of the season.

Footballguys view: Childs is a talented player but now has two devastating knee injuries over the last three years. He may never be able to harness the talent he showed in college.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said WR Greg Childs (knees) may start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Vikings | Greg Childs back on sidelines    Wed Jun 19, 09:57 PM

Minnesota Vikings WR Greg Childs (knees) did not take part in any portion of the minicamp practice Wednesday, June 19.

Footballguys view: A smart move for the Vikings here. Childs participated in drills Tuesday but the team is taking it slow as he makes his way back from bilateral patellar tendon tears. News reports have been positive about Childs coming back from this major injury.

Vikings | Greg Childs not cleared yet    Sun Jun 16, 12:30 PM

Minnesota Vikings WR Greg Childs (knees) has not been cleared to participate in team practices at this point and likely will not be for some time. He has been working out in the weight room and currently weighs 225 pounds. He has also been able to do some running and cutting.

Footballguys view: Childs has interesting upside if he could ever get healthy. He's never been the same since a torn patellar tendon his junior year in college at Arkansas. Last season he suffered patellar tendon injuries to both knees and is trying to make his way back. In super deep dynasty leagues he's worth having on the end of your bench as a lottery ticket player. We'd love to see what he could do if he ever returned to form but the chances of that happening are slim.

Vikings | No timetable for Greg Childs    Wed May 1, 01:56 PM

Minnesota Vikings WR Greg Childs (knees) said there is no timetable for his return but is making progress in his recovery from two patellar tendon tears. He has been able to do some cutting, jumping and sprinting at this point but is not close to 100 percent yet. He said he will not rush back and is not sure if he will be ready for the start of training camp.

Footballguys view: Childs may never be the same again after two severe knee injuries over the last three years. His dynasty stock is all but done.

Vikings | Not counting on Greg Childs    Wed Apr 17, 05:06 PM

The Minnesota Vikings are proceeding with the understanding that WR Greg Childs (knees) may not be able to play a meaningful snap in the NFL because of the torn patellar tendons he suffered before the season.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Childs suffered a similar injury when he was in college at Arkansas. His pro career may be done before it even gets started.

Vikings| Greg Childs expects to play in 2013    Sun Jan 27, 09:10 PM

Minnesota Vikings WR Greg Childs (knee) is making his way back from torn patellar tendons in both knees suffered in camp in August. He said he has no doubt he will play in 2013.

Footballguys view: Whether Childs can regain enough agility and explosiveness to make the Vikings roster is another question altogether. It's going to be difficult to get back to anywhere near 100% with Childs having to rehab both knees at the same time.

Vikings | Greg Childs says rehab going well     Wed Jan 9, 05:58 PM

Minnesota Vikings WR Greg Childs (knees) said his rehab from two torn patellar tendons is going well but is not sure if he will be able to take part in offeseason workouts. 'Everything's coming along good,' Childs said. 'I'll definitely be back. It's not even a question or whatever. It's just mainly me continuing doing what I'm doing out here, continue my rehab, continue to stay focused and just getting ready to go.' Childs said it took him 18 months to feel normal after he torn one of his patellar tendon in 2010.

Footballguys view: Childs looked good as a junior but didn't look the same post injury in his senior seaosn. If healthy he could develop into a quality target for QB Christian Ponder.

Vikings | Greg Childs undergoes surgery    Mon Aug 6, 11:23 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent WR Greg Childs (knee) posted on his official Twitter account that he was heading for surgery Monday, Aug. 6, to repair two ruptured patellar tendons suffered Saturday, Aug. 4, in practice. He was waived Monday, a precursor to placing him on Injured Reserve if he goes unclaimed.

Footballguys view: Childs will go on IR for the Vikings and it will be extremely difficult for him to come back from this devastating injury. He was already trying to come back from one patella tendon injury he suffered in 2010.

Vikings | Greg Childs waived     Mon Aug 6, 12:01 PM

The Minnesota Vikings announced Monday, Aug. 6, they have waived WR Greg Childs (knees).

Vikings | Greg Childs out for season    Sun Aug 5, 01:12 PM

Minnesota Vikings WR Greg Childs (knees) tore the patella tendons in both of his knee during a scrimmage Saturday, Aug. 5, and will miss the entire 2012 season. He will undergo surgery to repair the tendons in the next few days.

Footballguys view: This is the type of injury that could end Childs career. He was trying to regain his form after a 2010 patella tendon injury in college at Arkansas. Childs never looked the same after that injury and struggled during his senior season in 2011.

Vikings | Greg Childs carted off in practice    Sat Aug 4, 10:29 PM

Minnesota Vikings WR Greg Childs (leg) screamed in pain as he hit the ground in practice Saturday, Aug. 4, suffering an apparent leg injury. Childs immediately began screaming, and he was tended to by four members of the training camp. Eventually, he was lifted onto a cart.

Footballguys view: It was not immediately known if it was the same leg in which Childs tore the patella tendon during his junior season at the University of Arkansas. He's a physically gifted player but has struggled to regain his form after suffering that knee injury in 2010.

Vikings | Greg Childs looking to get speed back    Tue Jul 17, 12:27 AM

Minnesota Vikings WR Greg Childs (knee) was slowed in 2011 as the result of a torn patellar tendon suffered in 2010. Offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave is looking to take advantage of his speed, as long as he is healthy. 'He's got the speed to get down the field. But he also has the size to muscle little DBs at the same time,' Musgrave said. 'We're counting on the human body healing up. With the significant injury he had, it's usually a 15-to-18 month healing process. And he's just getting to that threshold.'

Footballguys view: Childs had first/second-round talent before his knee injury. If he can get all of his explosiveness back, he could be a Malcom Floyd-type in the Vikings offense. He will get a chance to play while Jerome Simpson is suspended for the first three games of the season.

Vikings | Greg Childs could get playing time early    Mon Jun 25, 01:45 PM

Minnesota Vikings WR Greg Childs is considered the top candidate to take WR Jerome Simpson's playing time in the first three games of the regular season while Simpson serves his suspension.

Footballguys view: Childs looked fantastic as a junior at Arkansas. However, his senior season was very poor due to a patella tendon injury he suffered at the end of his junior year. He was still recovering from the injury when he had a poor showing at the Shrine Game earlier this year. If Childs can regain his pre-injury form we like his route running, ball skills, and big play ability.

Vikings | Greg Childs getting healthier    Wed Jun 20, 10:06 PM

Minnesota Vikings WR Greg Childs (calf), who suffered a calf strain in rookie camp, has been able to practice in back-to-back practices for the first time this offseason. Head coach Leslie Frazier said Childs is '(still) a little behind from a conditioning standpoint because of the time he's missed and also catching up to what we're doing schematically. But you can see the physical talent in the fact that he's able to get in and out of cuts.'

Footballguys view: Childs' junior tape at Arkansas showed a big playmaker who could get open underneath and had good 'my ball' mentality. However, a patellar tendon injury that year has kept him from looking like the same player over the last year and a half. Childs was unimpressive at the Shrine Game earlier this year and will need to stay healthy if he's ever going to get back to form.

Vikings | Emmanuel Arceneaux, Greg Childs might see early action    Wed Jun 20, 10:03 PM

Minnesota Vikings WRs Emmanuel Arceneaux and Greg Childs might see more action early in the season with WR Jerome Simpson serving a three-game suspension to start the season. 'Emmanuel Arceneaux is really doing well. Hopefully, we can have two or three (players step up),' wide receivers coach George Stewart said. 'Greg Childs, he has a ways to go, he's a rookie, but they're going through that fire.'

Vikings | Greg Childs expected to be ready for minicamp    Wed Jun 13, 01:00 PM

Minnesota Vikings WR Greg Childs (calf) said he thinks he will be healthy enough to participate in minicamp next week. He has been limited during organized team activities because of a calf injury.

Footballguys view: Childs has a chance to play a large role when free agent signee Jerome Simpson is serving his three-game suspension, but he has to be on the field to win that temporary role. Childs had a great size/speed combination before tearing a patellar tendon in 2010.

Vikings | Greg Childs misses OTAs this week    Thu May 31, 07:45 PM

Vikings | Sign six draft picks    Tue May 22, 05:16 PM

The Minnesota Vikings signed WR Jarius Wright (fourth-round pick), WR Greg Childs (fourth round), DB Robert Blanton (fifth round), PK Blair Walsh (sixth round), LB Audie Cole (seventh round) and DT Trevor Guyton (seventh round) to undisclosed deals Tuesday, May 22.

Footballguys view: Keep an eye on both of the Arkansas WRs here. Wright is the speedster who is dangerous in the open field after the catch. Childs has good size, but struggled his senior season coming back from a knee injury.

Steelers | Meeting with four prospects    Wed Apr 18, 12:16 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers are meeting with University of Arkansas WR Greg Childs, University of Colorado WR Toney Clemons, University of Cincinnati TE Adrien Robinson and Southern Methodist OL Kelvin Beachum Wednesday, April 18.

Footballguys view: Our very own Cecil Lammey was impressed by Clemons during the week of practice for the Players All Star Classic earlier this year. On film he showed good my ball mentality, strong hands, and the body control to make difficult catches. He's seen as a late round pick, but will be a good value pick and should develop into a quality reserve WR and special teams player.

NFL | Greg Childs Pro Day results    Tue Mar 6, 08:03 PM

Footballguys view: Childs proved that he was healthy after a knee injury that slowed him down last year. He's not as highly sought after as his teammates WRs Joe Adams and Jarius Wright, but Childs is a bigger target that teams like as a mid- to late round pick.
