Chiefs | Second scope good for Jamaal Charles    Thu Nov 17, 04:51 PM

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) could return to the field this season thanks to his second knee scope. A return in late December or in the playoffs is still possible. Without the second scope, Charles would not have been able to return at all this season.

Footballguys view: This is Spencer Ware'sjob now so we don't know what role Charles would have if he returned. Is this the end of Charles in Kansas City? A storyline for the off season.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles undergoes surgery    Thu Nov 17, 01:14 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Monday, Nov. 14.

Footballguys view: There was some hope that Charles could return for the playoffs, but this surgery might have dashed those. The Chiefs will move forward with Spencer Ware as their lead back and Charcandrick West as his primary backup.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles could return in January    Sun Nov 6, 10:29 AM

The Kansas City Chiefs are optimistic that RB Jamaal Charles (knee) could resume playing as soon as Week 17's game against the San Diego Chargers, according to a source. However, it is more likely that he would be available for a potential postseason run.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles could return this year    Thu Nov 3, 08:22 AM

Updating previous reports, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) had successful surgery Wednesday, Nov. 2, and there's a chance he could return this year.

Footballguys view: We don't know what the backfield will look like at that point, as Spencer Ware is currently hurt. Charcandrick West gets the start this week against Jacksonville and is a solid RB1 start. Charles may not get much burn when he gets back and "when" that happens is ephemeral, so don't kill yourself keeping him on the roster if another, better option who can contribute now is on the waiver wire.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles having surgery    Wed Nov 2, 09:34 AM

Updating previous reports, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will have arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Wednesday, Nov. 2. A source said Dr. James Andrews wants to take a look at the knee with a scope to determine the necessary procedure and will communicate with the Chiefs' medical staff after he is finished.

Footballguys view: Charles has his season cut short as he's likely done for the year. By cutting him open, the doctors should be able to see what's been the problem.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles heads to IR, facing surgery    Tue Nov 1, 05:56 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) has been placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Nov. 1. After visiting Dr. James Andrews, it appears Charles will need a second surgery on his surgically-repaired knee. The severity is unclear.

Footballguys view: Doctors don't seem to know what is causing the pain in Charles' knee. He'll likely be shut down for the year, and the Chiefs will turn to guys like Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware in his absence. Ware has a concussion, and we'll have to see if he can be cleared to resume practicing later this week.

The Kansas City Chiefs have declared OT Bryan Witzmann, CB D.J. White, RB Jamaal Charles, OG Jordan Devey, TE Ross Travis, LB Sam Barrington, QB Tyler Bray inactive for Week 8.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles will sit vs. Colts    Fri Oct 28, 03:39 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) has been ruled out for Week 8 against the Indianapolis Colts.

Footballguys view: Spencer Ware is an elite RB1 fantasy play against the thin Colts run defense. His receiving ability makes him game script proof if Andrew Luck builds a lead early at home against the Chiefs.

Chiefs | Limited practice Jamaal Charles     Thu Oct 27, 08:39 PM

Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 27.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles limited    Wed Oct 26, 06:24 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Footballguys view: We shouldn't see that much of Charles. The Chiefs are moving forward with Spencer Ware, and he's a RB1 for fantasy owners. Even if Charles plays, he should be quite limited as he continues to deal with this knee problem.

Chiefs | KC downplays Jamaal Charles lack of use    Mon Oct 24, 01:48 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) was limited to one carry on two snaps in a Week 7 win over the New Orleans Saints. Head coach Andy Reid told the media, 'His leg wasn't feeling right. That was it.'

Footballguys view: Charles isn't himself, and there's no need to give him a larger workload with the way that Spencer Ware is playing. Rinse, repeat what we've seen the last two weeks (lots of Ware, barely any Charles) and you have the Chiefs likely gameplan going forward.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles limited in win    Sun Oct 23, 10:26 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) was active in the Week 7 game against the New Orleans Saints, but he played a limited role due to swelling in his surgically-repaired knee. He had just one carry in the first half.

Footballguys view: Charles reportedly MRIs on both knees recently in a bad sign for his ability to get right soon. He may not look like his old self this year, but this is great news for Spencer Ware owners, who will have an RB1 for as long as it takes Charles to regain form.

Chiefs | KC optimistic about Jamaal Charles    Sun Oct 23, 11:04 AM

Contrary to a previous report, the Kansas City Chiefs are optimistic that RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will be able to see limited snaps in Week 7's game against the New Orleans Saints, according to multiple sources. He will be tested in pregame warmups before the club decides whether or not to deactivate him.

Footballguys view: Spencer Ware is a must start in this matchup, and Charles should be avoided even if active.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles could miss Sunday's game    Sun Oct 23, 09:22 AM

There is a possibility that Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) could be inactive for Week 7's game against the New Orleans Saints, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Spencer Ware elevates to must-start this week against the Saints run defense that has given up eight touchdowns to running backs in the last three games.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles has swelling in knee    Fri Oct 21, 02:57 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) was limited in practice Friday, Oct. 21, due to some swelling in his surgically repaired knee and will be listed as questionable for Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints.

Footballguys view: Spencer Ware moves up to strong RB1 status with this news. New Orleans has been giving up touchdowns to running backs in bunches this year and it sounds like Charles workload is going to be scaled back if he plays.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles not ready for full load    Mon Oct 17, 03:58 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) continues to see increased activity, but he is still not ready to assume the full workload according to head coach Andy Reid.

Footballguys view: Charles is asking for more work, but the team still used Spencer Ware as the primary back. Going forward, that should be the case for the Chiefs. Ware can do the heavy lifting as Charles is continually eased back into action. This is a smart move for both players as it should help keep them fresh for what the Chiefs hope is a playoff run.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles ready for more work    Wed Oct 12, 02:39 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) said he is just as fast as he was before he suffered his knee injury and is ready for more work against the Oakland Raiders in Week 6.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to take note here. The Chiefs had a bye last week, and now they travel to play the Raiders in Week 6. Charles could put up RB2 numbers (at least) now that he's healthy and will likely have a larger role.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles limited in return    Mon Oct 3, 01:40 AM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) made his season debut in Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He ran twice for seven yards and had no receptions on one target.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs get a bye in Week 5, so Charles will get more rest. When they return in Week 6 on the road against the Raiders, perhaps we'll see more from Charles.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles to make '16 debut Sunday    Fri Sep 30, 02:57 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will make his season debut in the team's Week 4 contest Sunday, Oct. 2, against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Charles will likely still take a back seat to Spencer Ware in his first game back, so he should remain on your bench. It's possible that Charcandrick West's injury forced the Chiefs hand here, but it's still a good sign that the team did not take advantage of next week's bye to get Charles another week of rest before returning.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles limited in practice    Thu Sep 29, 11:27 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 29.

Footballguys view: It's difficult to imagine Charles being back this week with the Chiefs on bye in Week 5 and still no full practice for the star running back. Spencer Ware will likely get another start at Pittsburgh and he's worth a RB2 slot because of his involvement in the passing game and usage trending up with Charcandrick West hurting.

Chiefs | KC remaining cautious with Jamaal Charles    Mon Sep 26, 02:00 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) appears to have a decent chance to make his season debut in Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Head coach Andy Reid admitted the team is being 'very cautious' in regards to Charles.

Footballguys view: With the way that Spencer Ware is running, the Chiefs have no need to rush Charles back into action. We could see him this week against the Steelers, but if Charles does play we'd expect him to be quite limited in his first week back.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles won't play Sunday    Sun Sep 25, 09:56 AM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will not play in Week 3's game against the New York Jets, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Spencer Ware gets another start. He's not as attractive against the tough Jets defense, but his heavy involvement in the passing game makes him game script proof. Consider Ware a solid RB2 this week despite the matchup.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles doubtful for Week 3    Fri Sep 23, 03:55 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) is unlikely to play in Week 3 against the New York Jets. While most of his work in practice this week was on the scout team, head coach Andy Reid said Charles saw a bit of first-team work as well.

Footballguys view: It's difficult to make sense out of this because Charles was reportedly looking good all summer and activated from the PUP list on August 16th. He could have had a setback, but then his practice with the scout team doesn't make sense while he is healing. It is a fishy situation, which means we don't want to undersell Spencer Ware in trade talks or give up full value to get Charles. We can't be sure what we are getting when he returns, or when he will return.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles likely to sit again    Thu Sep 22, 01:58 AM

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) is likely to sit again in Week 3. Head coach Andy Reid said Wednesday, Sept. 21, that 'another week is going to help him. We'll just see.'

Footballguys view: If that's the case, Spencer Ware could be a nice addition to your lineup as a solid RB2. The Jets are tough, but Ware should be able to find some room to move.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) 'looked better' in practice last week, but head coach Andy Reid was noncommittal when asked about his status for Week 3 against the New York Jets.

Footballguys view: Even if Charles plays, the team is likely to ease him into the lineup. This situation is worth monitoring -- especially for those waiting on Charles return. However, don't immediately plug him in with your starters his first week back.

The Kansas City Chiefs have declared WR De'Anthony Thomas, RB Jamaal Charles, CB Kenneth Acker, OT Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, OG Parker Ehinger, LB Sam Barrington, QB Tyler Bray inactive for Week 2.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles could play next week    Sun Sep 18, 10:02 AM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) is expected to make his season debut against the New York Jets in Week 3, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Charles won't be trustworthy against a tough Jets run defense, but it will be comforting for his fantasy owners to see him out there nonetheless. Spencer Ware's run in our lineups will likely end next week, but he should stashed as the highest value handcuff this side of DeAngelo Williams. It is also possible that the Chiefs keep Ware more involved after his stellar Week 1 performance.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles tabbed doubtful for Week 2    Fri Sep 16, 03:06 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) is considered doubtful to play in the team's Week 2 game Sunday, September 18, versus the Houston Texans.

Footballguys view: Charles isn't going to be rushed back with Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West playing well and both able to handle three downs. It's hard to say if he had a setback or is just slow getting back on the field, but Charles was activated from the PUP list a month ago and he is practicing with the scout team, so something doesn't quite add up here.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles still limited    Thu Sep 15, 09:57 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 15.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles limited Wednesday    Wed Sep 14, 06:33 PM

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 14.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles will practice    Wed Sep 14, 01:14 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) is practicing Wednesday, Sept. 14, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Footballguys view: Charles may be practicing, but that's no guarantee that he's going to play. Spencer Ware should once again lead the way for the Chiefs on the ground -- even if Charles plays.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles could sit again    Tue Sep 13, 10:29 AM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) could sit again in Week 2 as he is the least healthy of the team's four running backs, according to a source.

Footballguys view: With the way that Spencer Ware is playing, there's no need to rush Charles back into the lineup. Even when fully healthy, Ware has earned a big part of a RBBC for the Chiefs. While Charles is out (or limited) make sure Ware is in every single one of your lineups.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles won't play Sunday    Sun Sep 11, 11:03 AM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will not play in Week 1's game against the San Diego Chargers Sunday, Sept. 11, according to a source. He had been listed as doubtful on the injury report.

Footballguys view: Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West will split the work in the backfield, with Knile Davis maybe getting a few touches, but Ware is the best play. He ran over the Chargers to the tune of 19-148-2 in two meetings last year, and Ware was the feature back in the preseason.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles 'probably' won't play    Fri Sep 9, 03:02 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) is considered doubtful for the team's season opener Sunday, September 11, and 'probably' won't play, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Footballguys view: Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West will split the work in this great matchup. Ware was running well ahead of West this summer, but West was listed first on the depth chart this week. Ware's 19-148-2 stat line in two games against the Chargers last year makes him the better play and possible fantasy RB2, although West deserves flex consideration in PPR leagues.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles still limited    Thu Sep 8, 10:51 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) remained a limited participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 8.

Footballguys view: Charles is on the doubtful side of questionable, and even if he is active, he'll likely be eased in with a very limited workload. Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West will split the largest share of touches. While it looked like Ware was the lead back in August, West could get enough work to be a solid flex play with a late move on the depth chart.

Chiefs | Jamal Charles will practice    Wed Sep 7, 01:08 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will practice Wednesday, Sept. 7, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Footballguys view: Reid is still making it sound like Charles won't play Sunday vs. San Diego, but this should underscore that Charles isn't on the PUP or otherwise is badly damaged goods right now. If you can get him in the fourth round of late drafts, it could be an outstanding move.

Chiefs | Coach not optimistic about Jamaal Charles    Mon Sep 5, 08:23 PM

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said he believes it would be a stretch for RB Jamaal Charles (knee) to play in Week 1.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to be dialed in here. Without Charles, the team will turn to Spencer Ware as the starter. Charcandrick West will be his backup. Charles may not be at full strength for some time, and he may just end up being a committee back in 2016. Both Ware and West are really talented and capable of taking on a larger role -- as they have to now.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles' status uncertain    Fri Sep 2, 04:24 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles' (knee) availability for Week 1 is uncertain at this point, according to head coach Andy Reid. Charles has not been ruled out, but Reid said Charles could sit out.

Footballguys view: The fact that Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West were getting a lot of carries in practice was already a concern and in fairness, Reid has been saying this for some time. He also has said Charles could play but only in a limited capacity. With the talented backfield they have, an RBBC was always a threat but it looks like it's likely here and soon. Charles' ADP is 16 overall and RB8 right now--that's starting to feel a bit rich.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) is unlikely to start the first game of the season, and if he plays, it won't be a big load, according to beat writer Adam Teicher.

Footballguys view: This is very concerning to us, as it's the second time in a week Teicher has said something to this effect. We're watching but his current ADP of RB8 and overall ADP of 16 is starting to feel slightly high. We know how deep the backfield is. We could be seeing an RBBC if they want to keep Charles fresh.
