Chiefs | Dexter McCluster becoming bigger part of offense?    Tue Oct 29, 02:09 PM

Kansas City Chiefs WR Dexter McCluster had a team-high seven catches for 67 yards and a touchdown in the team's Week 8 win over the Cleveland Brown. He also had one rush for five yards. 'As a player, you never know when it's going to be your day,' said McCluster, who was targeted by QB Alex Smith a team-high 10 times. 'You just have to be there when it's time. I was able to get started early and get some balls early.' His 13 touches were a season high, and the team has been looking for someone to step up and help lighten the workload for RB Jamaal Charles. Smith thinks the team will use McCluster more in the second half of the season.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to take note here. Andy Reid has finally figured out how to use McCluster as a receiver, and he's thriving with a bigger role. The Chiefs are going to have to open up the offense in the near future when they play teams like the Chargers and the Broncos.

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid expects RB Jamaal Charles (quadriceps) to play in the team's Week 2 game against the Dallas Cowboys despite being held out of practice for precautionary reasons Wednesday, Sept. 11. Charles suffered a quadriceps bruise in Week 1. If for some reason he doesn't play, RBs Cyrus Gray or Knile Davis would replace him. Gray played on passing downs in Week 1 and Davis was used on running plays.

He passed former RB Abner Hayes (794) for sixth on the team's all-time career carries list. He needs 133 carries to pass former RB Marcus Allen (932) for fifth in team history.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (foot) is expected to see some touches in the first quarter of the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 24, against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He reportedly looked good in practice this week running between the tackles and to the outside as well as catching passes.

Footballguys view: Not that you were worried about taking Charles in the top 5, but this should ease any concerns about the scare he had a few weeks ago.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles update    Mon Aug 19, 10:09 AM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (foot) said he isn't sure if he'll play in this week's preseason game. 'Playing in the NFL you get weird injuries,' Charles said. 'This is one of the weird injuries I've had. It started in my foot and it traveled all the way to the top of my foot and now it's stuck in the middle of my right leg.'

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners would feel more confident about drafting Charles with a premium pick if they could see him in the dress rehearsal for the regular season aka week three of the preseason. This foot injury has been categorized as mild and the Chiefs are taking it easy on their superstar RB so they don't rush him back too soon.

As expected, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (foot) was among the inactives for the preseason game Friday, Aug. 16, against the San Francisco 49ers.

Footballguys view: Charles remains day-to-day with a foot strain but might have played on Friday had it been a regular season game. It's wise for the Chiefs to take it easy on their superstar. We'll see if Charles can get back to practice and participate in the dress rehearsal for the regular season aka week three of the preseason.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles expected to sit out preseason    Fri Aug 16, 04:38 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (foot) will not play in the team's second preseason game, and the team plans to hold him out for the rest of the preseason so he can be ready for the start of the regular season.

Footballguys view: This shouldn't diminish your view of him. Charles has a chance to put up career high fantasy numbers in Andy Reid's offense. He's certainly worth a pick in the top 6-8 of PPR leagues, if not higher.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles likes his role    Thu Aug 15, 04:57 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles has adapted well to the new offensive scheme under head coach Andy Reid, and he's embracing the opportunity to catch more passes out of the backfield. Charles touched the ball on eight of the 14 plays for the first-team offense in the first preseason game.

Footballguys view: Charles is the centerpiece of the Chiefs offense as he should be. He should get plenty of touches to make fantasy owners incredibly happy. It wouldn't be a shock to see him finish the year as the best RB in fantasy football. His current ADP is RB4 and he's coming off the board at 1.03 in 12 team PPR leagues.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles sitting again    Wed Aug 14, 09:20 AM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (foot) is out of practice again Wednesday, Aug. 14.

Footballguys view: From everything we've been able to gather, Charles' foot injury truly is minor and something that shouldn't change your ranking of him. At most, push him down to the bottom of the elite RB tier, which is 6-8 backs deep depending on your feelings about Trent Richardson, CJ Spiller, Arian Foster, and Ray Rice.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles has mild sprain    Tue Aug 13, 01:54 PM

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (foot) is dealing with a mild foot sprain, and he wasn't walking with a boot or a noticeable limp Tuesday, Aug. 13. He rode a stationary bike but didn't participate in practice. 'People are speculating Lisfranc and all that,' trainer Rick Burkholder said of the mid-foot injury that caused problems for former RB Larry Johnson. 'He doesn't have any discomfort there. I've had him see two orthopedic surgeons and everyone agrees he has a mild foot strain.' There is no timetable for when Charles will return to action, but it's unlikely he'll play in the preseason game Friday, Aug. 16.

Footballguys view: It's important to note that rookie Knile Davis was taking a majority of the first-team reps with the team in practice. Davis is a poor man's version of Darren McFadden (Raiders). He has good straight line speed but lacks elusiveness and has durability concerns. Shaun Draughn and Cyrus Gray are battling for the No. 3 job.

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (foot) is walking on his sprain, but is having trouble pushing off. Charles is going to see how it heals before he decides on his availability for the team's next preseason game.

Footballguys view: In the second week of the preseason we're not expecting to see Charles play. The team will monitor him closely and may have him ready for the dress rehearsal for the regular season aka week three of the preseason. Charles is the centerpiece of the offense and they don't need this foot injury aggravated because of bringing him back too soon.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said RB Jamaal Charles (foot) could participate in practice Tuesday, Aug. 13, depending on how his foot feels.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (foot) left with a foot injury Monday, Aug. 12. X-rays were negative, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Footballguys view: We're not out of the woods here. Hopefully the team will see no need for an MRI, but foot injuries tend to linger and have open-ended return dates. Neither of Knile Davis or Shaun Draughn look like a clear handcuff here, and Cyrus Gray might be better than either if he can stay healthy. Our Dr. Jene Bramel will be weighing in on how much or even if this should change your outlook on Charles this year.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles has been a favorite target of QB Alex Smith in the passing game. He has also lined up as a wide receiver at times.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles praises teams offense    Thu Jun 27, 05:06 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles said he excited the team is going to use the pistol offense in 2013, an offense he is familiar with after running it in the 2008 season. 'I ran it my rookie year and I love it,' Charles said on NFL Network's 'NFL AM' on Thursday. 'I ain't never been around no offense that's about to be explosive and about to put me in space and making me make plays. I see Frank Gore had success with (the pistol) with the (San Francisco) 49ers. If he can have success, I hope I can have success as well.'

Footballguys view: Charles should be a top 5 fantasy pick in most every league out there. He'll be the focal point of the new Andy Reid offense and should finish the season as a top 5 fantasy RB. His current ADP is RB4 and he's coming off the board at 1.04 in 12 team PPR leagues.

Chiefs | RB Charles says new offense 'best thing that ever happened' to him    Sun Jun 9, 07:47 PM

They're going to throw me the ball more. I think I'll continue to stack Pro Bowls on Pro Bowls if I can stay healthy."

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners are excited about Charles in this new system as well. His current ADP is RB4 and he's coming off the board within the first five picks of most fantasy drafts. We'll see rookie Knile Davis (Arkansas) be a power change of pace back for the Chiefs, but Charles could easily surpass 1,500 yards rushing again this season.
