Chiefs | Dwayne Bowe has high expectations for offense    Wed May 15, 04:13 PM

Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe said he expects to lead the NFL in receptions and receiving touchdowns in 2013, and that RB Jamaal Charles will lead the league in rushing this season.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs offense has been energized by new head coach Andy Reid. We'll see what kind of chemistry can be established between Bowe and new QB Alex Smith.

Chiefs | Can rookie Davis cure his fumbling problems?    Sun May 12, 08:51 PM

In the Chiefs rookie minicamp RB Knile Davis was constantly seen carrying the ball high and tight to his body. In college Davis had fumbling issues because he runs too high and exposes his midsection to unnecessary hits. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said, "I can't tell you I'm big on fumbling. I don't like it. I don't have a lot of patience for it. I feel like with this kid, we'll have an answer there for that."

Footballguys view: Davis was a surprise pick by the Chiefs. He has serious durability issues after multiple ankle issues, including an injury that cost him the entire 2011 season. Davis fails to generate power and runs tentative, often dancing behind the line of scrimmage and wasting motion. We're not as excited about him as others are. He'll compete with Shaun Draughn and Cyrus Gray to be the primary backup behind Jamaal Charles.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles likes new offense    Wed Apr 17, 09:37 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles might break his career high for pass receptions this season, as head coach Andy Reid has used his backs as receivers out of the backfield in years past. Charles is perfectly fine with that. 'I'm happy I can catch out of the backfield more,' Charles said Wednesday, April 17. 'This is the most movement I've been (asked to do) in five years in the league, shifting and motion. This is the most I've ever (done). I have to get my mind right and my body in shape for this type of offense.'

Footballguys view: It seemed like Andy Reid warmed up to the ground game last year in Philadelphia. With a talent like Charles there's no reason to think the Chiefs will be a pass happy team. They'll use multiple formations to get Charles the ball in different sets. He should finish the year as a top 10 fantasy RB.

Chiefs | Have depth at RB    Tue Jan 15, 10:15 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles was a stud in his return from knee surgery, gaining over 1,500 yards on the ground. While RB Peyton Hillis, an unrestricted free agent, is not likely to be back. However, FB Nate Eachus and RB Shaun Draughn provide some decent depth, as well as RB Cyrus Gray. New head coach Andy Reid and general manager John Dorsey aren't expected to have to tinker much with this position.

Footballguys view: We like the upside of a guy like Gray here. Reid likes versatile RBs who can make an impact as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. Gray is one of the more versatile players on the team and can help out in many different ways.

Chiefs | More receptions for Jamaal Charles?    Sat Jan 5, 08:40 AM

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has always liked to use his tailbacks in the passing game. RB Jamaal Charles had 35 receptions in 2012 and could see that number increase next season.

Chiefs | Jameel Charles probable     Fri Dec 28, 04:12 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (illness) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 28, and is listed as probable for Week 17.

Footballguys view: Charles will be the featured piece of the Chiefs offense on Sunday against the Broncos. He's the only 100-yard rusher the Broncos defense has allowed over their 10-game win streak.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles practices in full    Thu Dec 27, 04:36 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (illness) practiced in full Thursday, Dec. 27.

Footballguys view: The Broncos have won 10 straight games and have only allowed one 100-yard rusher during that time - Jamaal Charles. He's the best weapon on the Chiefs offense and needs to be fed the rock early and often.

Broncos | Allowing few 100-yard rushers during streak    Thu Dec 27, 09:42 AM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles is the only running back to have amassed over 100 yards rushing against the Denver Broncos defense durng the team's 10-game winning streak.

Footballguys view: The Broncos defense will certainly be focused on stopping Charles in week 17. The addition of new Defensive Coordinator Jack Del Rio is almost as important as the addition of QB Peyton Manning. Denver is a top 5 defense and heading into the playoffs present a difficult opponent for most every team in the NFL.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles misses practice    Wed Dec 26, 05:35 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (illness) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 26.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles leader in career YPC    Mon Dec 24, 10:00 AM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles has averaged 5.82 yards per carry in his career, best in NFL history.

Footballguys view: Charles has had one of the strangest seasons ever for a stud RB. He's had seven 100-yard or more rushing days, including two games over 200-yards rushing. However, he's also had five games with less than 50-yards rushing, including three games where he had 10-yards rushing or less. If OC Brian Daboll returns in 2013 we hope he's figured out how to use Charles properly after failing to do that consistently this year.

Chiefs | Closer look at Jamaal Charles in Week 16     Mon Dec 24, 08:32 AM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles gained 199 of his 226 yards before being contacted in Week 16, the most single-game rushing yards before contact by a running back this season. Charles' 86-yard touchdown run was also his third rushing touchdown of 80-plus yards this season.

Footballguys view: An amazing stat to examine here. Charles was fantastic and the Colts had no answer for the superstar RB. Indianapolis has a weak run defense and that could cost them in the postseason.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles has outstanding performance     Sun Dec 23, 04:59 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles rushed for 226 yards and one touchdown on 22 carries in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts.

Footballguys view: Just one week after letting many fantasy owners down, Charles was one of the best fantasy performers of championship week. His up and down fantasy scoring pattern is frustrating, but Charles is still an everyweek start RB1.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles surprisingly bad    Mon Dec 17, 12:54 AM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles carried nine times for just 10 yards in the Week 15 game against the Oakland Raiders, and he added three catches for 18 yards.

Footballguys view: This wasn't a runaway game by the Raiders and it's very puzzling why Charles didn't get more carries. Instead, QB Brady Quinn threw the ball 32 times with little results. Offensive Coordinator Brian Daboll has misused Charles a few times before this year. More carries and touches for Charles would only be a good thing for the Chiefs.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles to have heavy workload     Sat Dec 15, 09:10 AM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles will see a heavy workload in Week 15 against the Oakland Raiders, particularly without WR Dwayne Bowe (ribs) in the lineup. 'Everybody knows we're going to run the ball with 25 back there,' offensive coordinator Brian Daboll said. Charles had just five carries for four yards in Week 8 against Oakland.

Footballguys view: More Charles is nothing but a good thing, both for the Chiefs and for fantasy owners. Start him as a RB1 in week 15 against the Raiders.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles has run for more than 100 yards in the past three games following his 165-yard effort in Week 14.

Footballguys view: Charles is a must start every week. He has the big play ability to make your fantasy week on one play.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles rushed for 165 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries against the Cleveland Browns in Week 14.

Footballguys view: Charles missed a few series with a rib injury, but finished the game and should be fine for next week's great matchup against the Raiders. He took the first play of the game to the house from 80 yards out, and managed a fantastic game even though his team got blown out.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles rushed for 107 yards on 23 carries in Week 12 against the Denver Broncos.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs aren't winning, but they are getting the ball to Jamaal Charles in the volume he deserves. Even with the team heading towards a top five pick, Charles is worth an everyweek start as an RB2 with RB1 upside.

Chiefs | HC receiving support     Mon Nov 19, 11:34 AM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles showed support for head coach Romeo Crennel following Week 11 despite the team's 1-9 record. 'I don't know what the outcome is, what you're going to get if you keep on changing head coaches,' Charles said. 'If you keep doing that, he can't get the right players here. I feel if you stay with one system and continue to get players, I feel you can be successful. If (Crennel) is here for one year, you just can't kick him out because he's not having a good year. Let him get his stuff together and have a couple of years, then we can have a successful year.'

Footballguys view: It's a nice move by Charles, and not a surprising one. Crennel's popularity with his players was one of the reasons why he was hired as the full time head coach in the first place. Regardless of his popularity we expect major changes for the Chiefs this offseason. Both Crennel and GM Scott Pioli could be looking for work next year.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles carried 23 times for 100 yards and a touchdown in the Week 10 game Monday, Nov. 12, against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Footballguys view: Charles looked good on Monday night against a tough Steelers run defense. On the wet surface at Heinz Field he was able to gash the Pittsburgh defense multiple times. He did get a little big banged up in this game but was able to come back in the game and come through for his fantasy owners.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (neck) fully participated in practice Saturday, Nov. 10, and is listed as probable for Week 10.

Footballguys view: Charles should be in the lineup against the Steelers on Monday night. It's a rough matchup as he's going up against the 7th best rush defense in the league. Start Charles as a low end RB2 or flex option in week 10.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles practices in full    Fri Nov 9, 03:01 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (neck) practiced in full Friday, Nov. 9.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles practices     Thu Nov 8, 08:13 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (neck) fully participated in practice Thursday, Nov. 8.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles passes concussion tests    Fri Nov 2, 01:21 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (head, neck) said he passed concussion tests Thursday, Nov. 1, and that he'll be available to play in Week 10 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. 'I feel like I can still play,' Charles said. 'I'm fine right now. I feel good. I came off the field pretty good. I feel like I could have gone back in, but they told me to relax.'

Footballguys view: Good sign for Charles here. What's a bad sign is the way the Chiefs are using a RBBC now with Peyton Hillis and Shaun Draughn. Charles owners may continue to be frustrated with his lack of touches going forward.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles update    Fri Nov 2, 10:47 AM

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (neck) said he felt like he could have returned to the game Thursday, Nov. 1, but he was told he was done for the night.

Footballguys view: Charles owners are beyond frustrated with his production over the last two weeks. Things are falling apart in KC and for some reason they're starting to use a (largely ineffective) RBBC since Peyton Hillis is back. WR Dexter McCluster and RB Shaun Draughn are also getting a few carries here and there. Buy low on Charles in dynasty leagues, and in re-draft leagues just dial down your expectations for Charles.

Chiefs | OC defends use of Jamaal Charles in Week 8     Wed Oct 31, 07:46 AM

Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Brian Daboll defended his use of RB Jamaal Charles in Week 8. Charles had just eight touches in the game. 'Jamaal is a good player ... and give Oakland credit,' Daboll said. 'They did a nice job of stopping the run. We tried to move it some other ways. Every week is a new week. You go as the game develops. You try to run or pass based some on what you think you can do and some on what they're doing. If they're doing a good job of stopping the run over and over, we're going to try and move the ball in another fashion.'

Footballguys view: There's no defense for only giving Charles 8 touches against the Raiders. Daboll can spin it anyway he wants, but it's simply unforgivable. We expect the Chiefs to emphasize Charles much more on Thursday night against the Chargers.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles not a factor on offense     Sun Oct 28, 08:28 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles rushed for four yards on five carries in Week 8 against the Oakland Raiders. He also caught three passes for six yards in the game.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs non-use of Charles in this game was ridiculous. They weren't down by more than two scores until later in the second half, but they appeared set on using four running backs in this game no matter how it went. Kansas City has only been competitive in the games that they rode Charles on offense, but offensive coordinator Brian Daboll doesn't seem to realize it. The Chiefs have a good schedule for the stretch run and fantasy playoffs, but Daboll will have to snap out of this for it to matter to his owners.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (back) is limited by a back injury in practice this week. Also, RB Peyton Hillis (ankle) and DL Glenn Dorsey (calf) continue to be limited but could be ready for Week 8 against the Oakland Raiders.

Chiefs | Will continue to run    Tue Oct 9, 07:23 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs plan to continue to pound the ball on the ground, regardless of who their quarterback is under center. They ran the ball 49 times compared to 19 pass plays in their Week 5 loss, and they rank second in the league in rushing. RB Jamaal Charles leads the league with 551 yards and is tied for third with 102 attempts. RB Shaun Draughn carried the ball 12 times and RB Cyrus Gray had four carries last week. RB Peyton Hillis (ankle) will be involved, too, when he returns from injury.

Footballguys view: Go with your strength. The Chiefs are a much better running team than they are a passing team. Most numbers guys like QB Matt Cassell or WR Dwayne Bowe have put up this year have been late in games when they're playing 'catch up' football.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles surpasses 150-yard mark    Sun Oct 7, 04:53 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles rushed for 140 yards on 30 carries against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 5.

Footballguys view: Charles had 100 yards in the first half, but the Ravens defense stiffened in the second half. He is back to his 2010 top 5 fantasy running back level of production - and that's with poor play from his quarterback.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles rushed for 92 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries in Week 4 against the San Diego Chargers but lost two fumbles during the game. Charles also caught three passes for 23 yards and one touchdown.

Footballguys view: Charles struggled badly early with the fumbles, but his explosiveness was still evident as the Chiefs were trying to dig out of the early hole they created. Charles is a no brainer every week start top 5 fantasy running back going into a tough matchup against the Ravens.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles feeling more comfortable     Mon Sep 24, 10:11 AM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) said after a terrific Week 3 performance that he has finally returned all the way back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. 'I didn't trust myself (until Sunday). 'It really hit me when I started getting the runs. I started trusting myself,' Charles said. 'I kind of feel like the old me, especially breaking that long run and finishing it. It's motivating me more that I still have my speed and I still can run the long ones.'

Footballguys view: Last week Charles seemed to be bothered by his knee injury but that wasn't the case against the Saints on Sunday. Any fantasy owner playing against Charles probably lost because of his 200+ yards rushing on Sunday.

Chiefs | Unsure if three players will fully recover    Thu Sep 20, 01:14 PM

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel said RB Jamaal Charles, TE Tony Moeaki and SS Eric Berry are healthy enough to play but is not sure if any will be able to return to the level of play they were at before they tore their anterior cruciate ligaments. 'Those guys are playing and they're practicing, and so they are good enough to play,' Crennel said. 'Now, whether they'll ever be back to what they used to be, I don't know if that's going to be the case, because they've had a reconstruction on the knee. Will it be like it was before the reconstruction? I don't know that will be the case.'

Footballguys view: Charles looked like his old self and almost had an 80 yard touchdown run. The Chiefs may use a more even split with Peyton Hillis in games that they lead or keep close, but this Charles-heavy split has to make his owners happy.

Chiefs | Will ride hot hand at RB     Thu Sep 6, 09:58 AM

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel loves RB Jamaal Charles' speed and RB Peyton Hillis' power, and he plans to use both backs often in Week 1. However, Crennel added the flow of the game will dictate which back sees more time. 'Just how we feel, how it's going,' Crennel said when asked if he has a carry-split plan for Charles and Hillis. 'And, that's totally honest with you. You can't say how a game is going to go. We go up there and we work all these hours at night and we put a game plan together, but if a play is not working, then you don't keep calling that play. So, whatever is working, that's what we're going to call, and that's why many times you look at that offensive call sheet that has so many plays on it because if they're not working, then you've got something else to go to.'

Footballguys view: We've been calling this all offseason. The dreaded hot hand approach will make it difficult to predict which RB will have the better game from week to week. Both Hillis and Charles are talented receivers out of the backfield. We like both as RB2s with various upside on a weekly basis.

'That was a relief,' head coach Romeo Crennel said. 'For him to take that hit, I think that helped clear his mind about where he is with that injury. Until you get hit on it, you just never know. Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) carried three times for 12 yards, and he added one catch for 11 yards, in the preseason opener Friday, Aug. 10, against the Arizona Cardinals. It was his first game action since tearing his ACL last fall.

Footballguys view: Charles makes for a nice RB2 with RB1 upside this year in fantasy leagues. He'll split carries with Peyton Hillis this year, and even split targets out of the backfield as Hillis is a quality receiving back as well.

Kansas City Chiefs RBs Shaun Draughn and Cyrus Gray received most of the work at running back Wednesday, Aug. 8, leaving little work for RBs Jamaal Charles (knee) and Peyton Hillis.

Footballguys view: We could see Gray developing into a quality backup runner and receiver out of the backfield. He's a jack of all trades, but a master of none and we don't think he has the skill set to be anything more than a change of pace RB.

It will be the first true game action for Charles since going down with a torn anterior cruciate ligament last fall. Charles will also see reps in a scrimmage against Arizona Tuesday, Aug. 7.

Footballguys view: We expect the Chiefs to ease Charles back into the lineup. He'll split time with Peyton Hillis this year in the Chiefs backfield. Charles is the better big play option and could perform like a high upside RB2 for your fantasy team.
