Seahawks | Chris Carson set to retire    Tue Jul 26, 02:15 PM

Seattle Seahawks RB Chris Carson (neck) is expected to retire from the NFL due to the neck injury he suffered last season, according to sources. According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, Seattle will officially release him with a failed physical designation.

Footballguys view: Neck injuries are nothing to mess around with. Carson has been a hard-charging running back for the Seahawks since he came into the league as a seventh-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft. Rashaad Penny and Kenneth Walker will lead the way in the Seahawks backfield in 2022.

Seahawks | RB Penny 'In The Driver's Seat'    Sat Jun 25, 03:32 PM

Brady Henderson, from ESPN.com, reports Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny is 'in the driver's seat' to be the featured back.

Footballguys view: No surprise here, and when he's healthy Penny is a talented runner who can produce. However, injuries have been a major problem for the former first-round pick. That's why Seattle drafted Kenneth Walker (Michigan State) to help carry the load (and perhaps take over as the lead back eventually). Penny and Walker will carry the rock for Seattle while Chris Carson (neck) continues on his road to recovery. While healthy, Penny has RB2 value for Fantasy GMs and he's currently getting drafted as RB28 (6.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Seahawks | No timeline yet for Chris Carson's return    Fri Jun 10, 04:22 PM

Seattle Seahawks RB Chris Carson (neck) is committed to continuing to rehab from his offseason neck surgery but has not been given a timeline to return to football activities, according to Heavy.com's Jonathan Adams.'I see myself playing until I feel like stopping. My mindset is never to give up. So, I'm staying positive like I said, and continue to fight and get back onto the field. ... Not trying to rush it, I'm just trying to take it one day at a time. Just keep rehabbing, keep getting better. Keep building strength and then go from there. But like I said, there's no timeline for me,' Carson said.

Footballguys view: There really is no way of knowing if Carson will be able to return to the football field. We don't want to sound too dire, but neck injuries are complicated to deal with and have ended plenty of careers in the NFL from years past. If healthy, Carson would have to work his way into a backfield that is jam-packed with talent. Rashaad Penny should be the lead back until he gets banged up, and rookie Kenneth Walker was arguably the best back in the 2022 NFL draft so he should get a sizeable role too (and eventually take over as the starter).

Seahawks | RB Carson Not Cleared for Minicamp    Thu Jun 9, 04:22 PM

Bob Condotta, from the Seattle Times, reports Seattle Seahawks RB Chris Carson was not cleared for mandatory minicamp per head coach Pete Carroll.

Footballguys view: Neck injuries are tricky to come back from. In fact, Carson may never be the same again. Per Carroll's press conference there will be more assessments in two weeks to determine Carson's availability for the season. Seattle has Rashaad Penny as the lead back with rookie Kenneth Walker ready for a large role on the ground as well.

Seahawks | Chris Carson to get reevaluated in two weeks    Thu Jun 9, 03:59 PM

Seahawks | Chris Carson may receive update soon    Mon May 23, 06:25 PM

Seattle Seahawks RB Chris Carson (neck) may receive an update on his neck injury at some point this week, according to head coach Pete Carroll.

Footballguys view: Neck injuries can be tricky to deal with, play through or even come back from. We hope this is not career ending for Carson, but the team will approach it with extreme caution.

Seahawks | No Update on RB Carson    Tue May 10, 03:57 PM

Brady Henderson, from ESPN.com, reports Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll did not provide any update on running back Chris Carson. "We don't have updates yet on Chris and we won't know for some time. ...So there's a little bit of uncertainty that we're waiting on." Carroll said.

Footballguys view: Carson is coming back from neck surgery, so there is no timetable for his return. Neck injuries have ended careers in the NFL for guys like Sterling Sharpe and Eric Dickerson, so Carson may never be able to be the player he used to be if/when he gets back to the field. There's a reason why the Seahawks selected Michigan State RB Kenneth Walker in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Walker will team with Rashaad Penny to give Seattle a nice 1-2 punch while Carson is still on the mend.

Seahawks | Kenneth Walker picked due to Chris Carson uncertainty    Wed May 4, 04:14 PM

Seattle Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker III was selected by the team in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft partly due to the uncertainty of Chris Carson's timeline to return from December neck surgery, according to head coach Pete Carroll. 'I would say this, we picked him because, on the board, he was up there for us and we couldn't pass him up. We don't have updates yet on Chris, we won't know for some time here. We can't predict that,' said Carroll on Friday, April 29.

Footballguys view: Neck injuries are tricky to come back from, and they have career-ending injuries for some greats throughout NFL history (Sterling Sharpe, Eric Dickerson). There's no telling how much Carson will be able to do coming back from neck surgery. Walker, arguably the best running back in this draft class, fits exactly what Seattle wants to do on the ground as he runs with power and intent.

Seahawks | Chris Carson's status still up in the air    Fri Apr 22, 03:52 PM

Seattle Seahawks RB Chris Carson (neck) is still very much a question mark for the 2022 season, and it remains unclear if he will be able to return to football after undergoing neck surgery late last season, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times.'We really don't have any real updates at this time. It's still gonna take some time still working through it. He's really working hard, I know that, and it's really important to take it as far as you can. So we'll just have to wait. Take some time to figure that out,' head coach Pete Carroll said.

Footballguys view: Neck injuries are always tricky to come back from. Carson is trying to come back from November disc-fusion neck surgery. The Seahawks signed Rashaad Penny to a one-year deal in March, so he could be the lead back if Carson has to miss time to begin the new season.

Seahawks | Chris Carson staying put after all    Fri Mar 19, 07:48 PM

Free-agent RB Chris Carson (Seahawks) reportedly agreed to terms on a two-year contract worth up to $14.625 million to remain with the Seattle Seahawks on Friday, March 19. ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting the deal's actual framework is a three-year pact that voids after two seasons and worth $24.625 million.

Footballguys view: Carson stays put and should be the lead back for Seattle in 2021. He's going to get a larger role with the Seahawks than he would have with another team. Carson needs to stay healthy but has RB2 with upside potential for Fantasy GMs this season.

He should have a robust market for his services. Seattle will move forward with former first-round pick Rashaad Penny and there is some buzz they'll make a run at Mike Davis in free agency.
