Raiders | Derek Carr impressing     Tue Aug 14, 04:52 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr has been vocal, directive and fluent in head coach Jon Gruden's offense so far. The command of the offense Carr has shown is evident.

Footballguys view: Good news out of Raiders camp here. Carr's fit with Gruden is something to monitor closely as training camp and the preseason rolls on. He's got the ability to outperform his current ADP of QB19 (12.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Raiders | Quick exit for Derek Carr    Fri Aug 10, 11:28 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr played one series against the Detroit Lions in the preseason opener Friday, Aug. 10, completing two of his four passes for 11 yards.

Footballguys view: Carr didn't need to do much as the veteran gave way to Connor Cook and E.J. Manuel for the rest of the game. We'll see if new Raiders head coach Jon Gruden and Carr get along in order to get the passing game back on track. They've added weapons to the passing attack like veteran WR Jordy Nelson and Carr has QB1 upside for Fantasy GMs. His current ADP of QB19 (12.10) could make him a value pick.

Raiders | Derek Carr talks up Jordy Nelson     Sat Jun 9, 12:10 AM

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr praised WR Jordy Nelson's attention to detail and said he understands why Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers loved throwing to Nelson.

Footballguys view: Nelson may not be what he used to be, but the veteran receiver should become a favorite target of Carr in the Raiders passing game. He's got a current ADP of WR37 (8.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Raiders | Oakland has been eyeing Martavis Bryant    Thu Apr 26, 11:07 PM

Oakland Raiders WR Martavis Bryant can be a 'dynamic receiver' for quarterback Derek Carr, according to general manager Reggie McKenzie, and McKenzie said Oakland had been working on trading for Bryant for some time.

Footballguys view: The best ability is availability and Bryant just hasn't been for much of his career. If he's on the field he could be a nice pairing with Amani Cooper, but he cannot afford to make any mistakes off the field. And the Raiders can't afford for him to make them either.

Raiders | Derek Carr was bothered by back    Tue Jan 23, 02:17 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (back) admitted that a back injury suffered in Week 4 did impact his play throughout the course of the season. 'Injuries will never be something I talk about, especially during the season, but since it's after the season, the [back issue] was one of those things that was there,' Carr said.

Footballguys view: Things start to make more sense after the season when this type of information comes out. Carr just didn't look like himself in 2017. Some felt it was because Bill Musgrave was not retained as offensive coordinator but this report indicates it might have had more to do with his health. The fourth-year quarterback suffered three transverse process fractures and said he wanted to deal with the injury instead of using it as an excuse.

Raiders | Greg Olson raves about Derek Carr    Thu Jan 18, 01:20 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr was given high praise from new offensive coordinator Greg Olson. Olson opined that Carr's football intelligence is 'off the charts' and spoke highly of the quarterback's physical talent, accuracy and quick release.

Footballguys view: We're hoping Carr can have a bounce-back season in 2018 as this year was a massive disappointment. He has the weapons, and normally a solid offensive line, and a new offensive coordinator could be the thing to get him back to the level of play we saw in 2016.

Raiders | Issues brewing for Derek Carr?    Thu Jan 4, 09:27 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr's personality may not mesh well with Jon Gruden's style if Gruden becomes the head coach of the Oakland Raiders, according to a league source.

Footballguys view: Carr will have to respond to the tough coaching Gruden will have for him. Gruden likes everybody on the TV broadcast, but he's known to be tough on quarterbacks. Carr has a ton of talent and perhaps Gruden could bring out the best in him...if Carr can put up with the yelling and the critiques.

Raiders | Derek Carr trusts Jared Cook    Sat Nov 18, 11:58 PM

Oakland Raiders TE Jared Cook's ability to stretch defenses down the field is a luxury from the position, according to QB Derek Carr, and Carr said he is comfortable throwing to Cook no matter who is covering him.

Footballguys view: Only Travis Kelce has more 100-yard receiving games among tight ends this year. He's a solid TE1 in what could be a shootout with the Patriots in Mexico City today.

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr completed 31 of his 49 pass attempts for 313 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Week 8 against the Buffalo Bills.

Footballguys view: Carr was able to ring up some yards and his touchdown pass once the Bills opened up a 20-point lead, but he and the Raiders offense had too many turnovers to hang in this one. They are basically in must-win to keep playoff hopes alive mode heading into Miami next week.

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (back) was a limited participant in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Oct. 12.

Footballguys view: Carr's back may still be a factor even if he returns to action this week. He was struggling before the injury, so the back issue won't help. We see him as a middle of the road QB2 and hope that he can bounce back this season.

Raiders | Derek Carr expected to play    Mon Oct 9, 06:22 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (back) is expected to play against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6, according to head coach Jack Del Rio.

Footballguys view: Carr was going to need 2-6 weeks to recover from the back injury he suffered against the Broncos in Week 4...and it looks like only two weeks were necessary. One has to wonder if the team is rushing him back too soon because the offense lacked spark with E.J. Manuel as the starter against the Ravens in Week 5.

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (back) has a transverse process fracture in his back and likely will miss at least the Week 5 game, according to head coach Jack Del Rio. The typical recovery time for Carr's injury is two to six weeks.

Raiders | Derek Carr financials    Mon Jul 3, 02:51 AM

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr received a $12.5 million signing bonus and will make $5 million in 2017 base salary. Carr will have a 2017 cap figure of $15.73 million. For the ensuing five years, Carr's cap figures are $25 million in 2018, $22.5 million in 2019, $21.5 million in 2020, $22.13 million in 2021, and $19.88 million in 2022.

Footballguys view: Those are all very reasonable by current standards and will look even more reasonable as Kirk Cousins and others set the quarterback pay bar higher and higher in upcoming years. In general, a sense of urgency to get your quarterback locked up is rewarded in the NFL.

Raiders | Derek Carr fully guaranteed $40 million    Thu Jun 22, 11:53 AM

Updating earlier reports, Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr is fully guaranteed $40 million and has more than $70 million in total guarantees. He's under contract through 2022.

Footballguys view: Well, we all know the chances of reaching that 2022 finish line are scant, as teams and players tend to renegotiate before the end of a contract. Hence the large amount of guaranteed dollars. Carr continues to improve his game and if he is back 100% healthy as we expect, you can bet he'll be a great option for Fantasy GMs this season.

Raiders | Derek Carr agrees to extension    Thu Jun 22, 10:22 AM

Updating an earlier report, Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr agreed to a five-year, $125 million extension Thursday, June 22, according to sources. The deal makes him the highest-paid player in team history.

Footballguys view: Well, they say if you like it then you'd better put a ring on it. This is the NFL equivalent and is a no-brainer for Oakland-soon-to-be-Las Vegas. Groan-inducing Dad-Jokes aside, Carr is the best player this team has had in a long time and a clear difference-maker. He will be that for your fantasy team too, and is currently going as the No. 8 quarterback off the board with an overall ADP of 72 in early drafting. With Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree to throw to and Marshawn Lynch running the ball, this could be a very potent offense again this year.

Raiders | Derek Carr deal near completion    Thu Jun 22, 08:29 AM

Updating previous reports, Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr has a deal in place with the Raiders, and only language remains. It could be finalized this week. Carr could choose to backload the deal because there is no state tax in Nevada and California's tax rate is 13.3 percent. Doing so would save him millions.

Footballguys view: This makes all the sense in the world and is a sane, smart move by the franchise. The backloading of the deal is fascinating for those of you who like finance, but the bottom line is this: Carr is one of the top young quarterbacks in the NFL, and you don't let a guy like that leave.

Raiders | Derek Carr close to extension    Wed Jun 21, 03:01 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr is close to agreeing on a contract extension that is expected to pay him around $25 million per season, according to sources. The deal could be announced as early as the end of this week.

Footballguys view: Carr is entering the final year of his contract, and the Raiders should get something done to lock him up before the start of training camp. That's been the expectation, and that's the track the two sides seem to be on. The top number for QBs is Andrew Luck ($24.6 million) and Carr should top that. Once he does, expect the contracts for Matthew Stafford and Kirk Cousins to fall in line next.

Raiders | Derek Carr could receive big extension    Fri Jun 9, 06:06 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr has a chance to receive $25 million per season in a contract extension, in the opinion of NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Footballguys view: The Raiders need to get something done with Carr sooner rather than later. Most reports indicate they'll make something happen before training camp. According to OverTheCap.com, the Raiders have over $32 million in cap space at this moment. Getting something done with Carr should not be a problem.

Raiders | Derek Carr would play sans extension    Tue May 30, 05:29 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr said he will play out the 2016 season even if a contract extension is not agreed upon before the start of the season. Carr added that he doesn't want the extension to be a distraction this year. The quarterback's hope is that an extension will be done by training camp.

Footballguys view: The Raiders should work diligently to get this done. Carr is one of the best young quarterbacks in the league, and that new extension is going to be a hefty price tag. He's worth it, and everybody knows it. They don't need to go through any franchise tag scenario with Carr, just sign him to a big money deal and move on. Plenty of teams would love to have the 'problem' of signing Carr.
