The Washington Redskins have re-signed TE Dominique Byrd. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Byrd is a former Trojans TE like Fred Davis, but that's where the comparison's end. We're not expecting much from the TE position in Washington now that Davis has been suspended for the rest of the year.

The Washington Redskins have signed free-agent TE Dominique Byrd (Seahawks) and OL Jonathan Compas (Patriots). Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Both Anquan Boldin and Steve Breaston are active this week. Breaston isn't yet healthy enough to trust in your lineups, but Boldin could be a strong play against a Jacksonville defense struggling to adjust to and bring pressure from a multiple front scheme.

Cardinals | No tight ends stepping up    Tue Aug 18, 08:52 PM

Bob Baum, of The Associated Press, reports five tight ends - Anthony Becht, Dominique Byrd, Ben Patrick, Leonard Pope and Stephen Spach - are battling for the Arizona Cardinals starting tight end position, but no one is distancing himself from the pack so far. The team would like to see someone emerge, but they may have to handle it through a committee approach.

Cardinals | Could use committee at tight end    Sun Aug 9, 10:54 PM

Kent Somers, of The Arizona Republic, reports the Arizona Cardinals could use a committee at their tight end position, with starts and playing time dictated by game plans and opponents. Tight ends coach Freddie Kitchens said TEs Stephen Spach, Ben Patrick, Leonard Pope, Anthony Becht and Dominique Byrd all bring "something different to the table."

Footballguys view: Just another reason to keep avoiding Cardinals tight ends for your fantasy teams.

Cardinals | Spach questionable for start of season    Fri Jul 24, 07:34 PM

Kent Somers, of the Arizona Republic, reports that Cardinals TE Stephen Spach is questionable for the start of the season, as he is recovering from ACL and MCL surgery.

Footballguys view: This opens the door for Rams cast-off Dominique Byrd to make the opening day roster. Byrd was a talented pass-catcher at USC, and there could be more of a role for a pass-catching TE in the offense, now that the team will be running less three WR sets.

NFL | Fitzgerald hosting WR camp     Thu Jul 16, 03:53 PM

Jim Trotter, of SI.com, reports Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald is hosting a wide receiver camp in Minnesota and has invited several other NFL players to participate in the camp, which has had former NFL WRs Jerry Rice and Cris Carter as instructors. Among the wide receivers that have been participating are Denver Broncos WR Brandon Marshall, Buffalo Bills WR Lee Evans, Green Bay Packers WR Greg Jennings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton, Minnesota Vikings WR Sidney Rice and Cleveland Browns WR Brian Robiskie. Washington Redskins CB DeAngelo Hall, New Orleans Saints CB Malcolm Jenkins, Pittsburgh Steelers TE Matt Spaeth, Arizona Cardinals TE Dominique Byrd and St. Louis Rams LB James Laurinaitis also are attending the camp. Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo may attend the camp next week.

Footballguys view: Fitzgerald, Jennings, Marshall, and Evans are some of the best wide receivers in the game today so it's nice to see them competing against each other in order to get better. With Jerry Rice and Cris Carter giving pointers the young wideouts can only improve their games. It will be interesting to see if guys like Michael Clayton or Sidney Rice can become consistent receivers in the NFL because of this "All Star" camp they're attending.

Cardinals | Graves likes how Byrd has performed    Thu Jun 18, 12:55 PM

Darren Urban, of AZCardinals.com, reports Arizona Cardinals general manager Rod Graves said he has been pleasantly surprised with TE Dominique Byrd during offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: 'I've got to tell you, he's been a pleasant surprise. He's caught the ball well. We'll see how it all shakes out when we put on pads, but so far, he's had a good offseason for us,' Graves said. Byrd is a former 3rd round pick by the Rams but he ran himself out of football with his off field behavior and did not play for any team last season. The Cardinals love Byrd's athleticism and could have a dark horse here in the competition at Tight End.
