Patriots | Cut Nate Byham    Fri Jul 25, 04:52 PM

The New England Patriots cut TE Nate Byham Friday, July 25.

Footballguys view: That escalated quickly. Four days after being signed, Byham was cut. We don't expect to see much of him from here on out, and certainly expect no fantasy value from him even if he lands elsewhere.

Patriots | Nate Byham contract details    Wed Jul 23, 03:28 PM

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots TE Nate Byham signed a one-year, $645,000 contract that did not include any bonus money.

Footballguys view: Byham played for the Buccaneers over the last two seasons after beginning his career as an undrafted free agent with the 49ers in 2010. He'll compete for a spot on the depth chart behind Rob Gronkowski. His main competition will be Michael Hoomanawanui and D.J. Williams.

Patriots | Nate Byham signs    Sun Jul 20, 03:31 AM

The New England Patriots have signed free-agent TE Nate Byham (Buccaneers). Byham will likely compete with TEs Michael Hoomanawanui and D.J. Williams for a chance to back up Rob Gronkowski.

Footballguys view: We can't imagine Byham beating out either of those two. Gronkowski's injury history makes fantasy owners curious about his backup. However, as we saw last year the team changes the way they distribute the football through the air if Gronk is out.

Patriots | Several players try out    Wed May 21, 01:42 PM

The New England Patriots have recently tried out free-agent RB Ronnie Brown (Chargers), RB Brian Leonard (Buccaneers), TE Ben Hartsock (Panthers) and TE Nate Byham (Buccaneers), according to a source.

Footballguys view: Hartsock and Byham are blocking tight ends. Between the draft and free agency, the Patriots don't seem to be in any hurry to reproduce the two tight end attack they had before Aaron Hernandez's career and life went south last year.

Buccaneers | Serious competition at tight end    Mon Jul 15, 07:11 PM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will likely have significant competition at tight end during training camp, with TE Luke Stocker likely having the upper hand in that competition going into camp. TEs Tom Crabtree Nate Byham, Danny Noble and Zach X. Miller will all challenge for playing time as well. "The position as a whole, I think they're working their tails off," Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano said. "Certainly we need to have production out of that position. So we need them to come up big."

Footballguys view: Stocker is a huge target (6'5") and knows how to use his frame to box out defenders. He'll automatically be a quality redzone target for QB Josh Freeman and could flourish with an expanded role in 2013. Stocker needs to improve on his concentration as he's known to drop too many easy passes. The Buccaneers don't use their TEs a whole lot so Stocker's fantasy value is limited even though he's considered the starter.

49ers | Duo battling for No. 3 TE duties    Sat Jun 30, 11:30 PM

San Francisco 49ers TE Nate Byham (knee) is back after a season-ending injury, and he is trying to hold off TE Konrad Reuland for the third tight end job. Byham is viewed as more of a blocker than a receiver, while Reuland is considered to have much better hands. Byham's chances of making the roster might also hinge on how well DL Demarcus Dobbs does at the tight end position. Dobbs, who has shown an ability to block, would make Byham rather redundant.

San Francisco 49ers TE Nate Byham (knee) will miss the entire 2011 season because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament. He is scheduled to have surgery on his knee in two weeks.

San Francisco 49ers TE Nate Byham likely will still be the team's blocking tight end under head coach Jim Harbaugh but it is not known if he will receive any more receptions in the new offense.

Footballguys view: With All-Pro Vernon Davis and the talented Delanie Walker ahead of him on the depth chart it's difficult to envision much production from Byham as a receiver.
