NFL | Michael Bush admits his career may be done    Tue Mar 24, 02:26 AM

Free-agent RB Michael Bush (Bears) ran a 4.91 in the 40-yard dash at the weekend's Veterans Combine, and he admitted to media afterward that his career may be over.

Footballguys view: It's like a Captain Obvious commercial. There were some interesting players at the veteran combine...and Bush was not one of them.

Cardinals | Week 13 Inactives    Sun Nov 30, 02:44 PM

The Arizona Cardinals have declared LB Desmond Bishop, RB Michael Bush, LB Kenny Demens, WR Larry Fitzgerald, TE Matthew Mulligan, DT Ed Stinson, DT Alameda Ta'amu inactive for Week 13.

Footballguys view: John Brown and Jaron Brown will both get extra snaps against an easy-to-beat Falcons secondary with Fitzgerald out. John is a good upside flex play, and Jaron is a desperation play that could work out.

Cardinals | Big role for Michael Bush?    Wed Nov 26, 01:46 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Michael Bush fits the role of a big, bruising ball carrier who can be effective in the red zone and at the goal line, and head coach Bruce Arians is hoping Bush can fill the role that RB Jonathan Dwyer had. 'We really miss John,' Arians said. 'I like our backs but we need a guy that's going to pound it in there and close out some games in short yardage and goal-line situations,' Arians said. Bush has 12 touchdowns on 26 goal-line carries in his career. Arians said Bush is in 'great shape' after not having played this year.

Footballguys view: We'll believe it when we see it. Bush failed to play up to expectations during his time with the Bears. We like his all-purpose skill set, but we need to see what he looks like in this current incarnation before we believe there's any sort of large role (or fantasy relevance) with Bush.

Cardinals | Sign one, release one    Tue Nov 25, 04:03 PM

The Arizona Cardinals signed free-agent RB Michael Bush (Bears) and cut RB Kerwynn Williams Tuesday, Nov. 25.

Footballguys view: Bush was just plain bad during his time with the Chicago Bears. He's a big back who doesn't run with as much physicality as he should. Bush is a good all-around back who can be reliable as a receiver out of the backfield...but there's no fantasy value to be found here.

Patriots | Michael Bush to visit    Mon Mar 31, 11:03 PM

According to a source, free-agent RB Michael Bush (Bears) is set to visit with the New England Patriots.

Footballguys view: With LeGarrette Blount (Steelers) moving on in free agency, the Patriots are in need of another running back. Bush has a good all-purpose skill set and would fit in nicely as a reserve player in New England.

Bears | Michael Bush released    Mon Mar 10, 06:13 PM

The Chicago Bears have officially released RB Michael Bush.

Footballguys view: Just another running back on the open market. Bush can contribute as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. This makes second-year pro Michael Ford the primary backup behind Matt Forte. Ford is a powerful runner with good vision and footwork. It's an important note for Forte's fantasy owners and players in deep dynasty leagues.

Bears | Michael Bush fully healed    Fri Jul 5, 12:49 PM

Chicago Bears RB Michael Bush (shoulder, rib) is fully healed from both rib and shoulder injuries he dealt with last season. His role in the team's offense is undefined this offseason under new head coach Marc Trestman.

Footballguys view: Bush may not get many touches this offseason as the primary backup behind Matt Forte. Trestman may prefer to use one back as a workhorse and not a RBBC.

Bears | Michael Bush played hurt    Fri Jul 5, 08:56 AM

Chicago Bears RB Michael Bush (shoulder) said he played most of 2012 with a fractured bone in his right shoulder.

Footballguys view: Bush is the top backup behind Matt Forte but may not get a ton of work unless there's an injury in front of him on the depth chart. The veteran back has a current ADP of RB52 and he's coming off the board at 12.07 in 12 team leagues.

Chicago Bears WR Earl Bennett (concussion), RB Michael Bush (ribs), CB Tim Jennings (shoulder), DE Shea McClellin (knee), DT Henry Melton (chest) and LB Brian Urlacher (hamstring) did not practice Thursday, Dec. 13.

Bears | Matt Forte received majority of work at RB    Mon Dec 3, 08:22 AM

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte (ankle) received 48 snaps at running back compared to just 13 for RB Michael Bush in Week 13.

Bears | Michael Bush scores twice    Sun Nov 25, 04:50 PM

Chicago Bears RB Michael Bush rushed for 60 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 12.

Footballguys view: Bush's role seemed to grow after Matt Forte fumbled early, but it took short carries at the goal line for Bush to have value today. He is still nothing more than a matchup flex play heading into a matchup against the Seahawks.

Bears | Michael Bush mostly bottled up    Mon Nov 19, 11:48 PM

Chicago Bears RB Michael Bush had five carries for just nine yards in Week 11 against the San Francisco 49ers Monday, Nov. 19. He was able to shake loose for an 18-yard gain on his only reception.

Footballguys view: This wasn't the game fantasy owners wanted Michael Bush in the lineup. The 49ers defense was able to frustrate the Bears offense all night.

Bears | Spread out RB workload in Week 9     Mon Nov 5, 10:56 AM

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte was on the field for 35 plays (51 percent) in Week 9, while RB Michael Bush was on for 21 plays (30 percent) and RB Armando Allen for 13 plays (19 percent).

Bears | Michael Bush expected to have heavy workload     Mon Oct 1, 11:49 AM

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte (ankle) is a game-time decision for Week 4; however, even if Forte is in uniform, RB Michael Bush (shoulder) will likely receive a bigger workload in the game than might be the case once Forte is 100 percent.

Footballguys view: Bush is the better start tonight. Forte is a game time decision and the Bears may choose to ease him back into the lineup if he does play.

Bears | Michael Bush has shoulder injury    Wed Sep 26, 06:07 PM

Chicago Bears RB Michael Bush (shoulder) is dealing with an AC joint injury in his shoulder, and the team is unsure about his practice status this week.

Footballguys view: We'll see if Bush can practice later this week. The Bears have a Monday night matchup against the Cowboys this week. Matt Forte may be back this week, but Bears head coach Lovie Smith still says Forte has a long way to go.

Bears | Hopeful Matt Forte will play in Week 4     Mon Sep 24, 12:34 PM

Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith said the team is 'hopeful' RB Matt Forte (ankle) will play in the team's Week 4 game Monday, Oct. 1. 'He made a lot of progress last week, and we have an extra day also so that should help,' Smith said. 'We're just hopeful that he'll be able to go. If not, our running backs, not only Michael Bush, but Kahlil Bell and Armando Allen all did a good job. But we hope we'll get our stud running back back.'

Footballguys view: When Forte does return to the lineup it won't completely crush the fantasy value of Michael Bush. We'll still see the Bears use Bush as a goalline back and short-yardage runner. He goes from a RB2 option to a flex option upon the return of Forte.

Bears | Michael Bush excited for starting role     Sat Sep 22, 12:06 PM

Chicago Bears RB Michael Bush is currently the team's starting running back in place of RB Matt Forte (ankle), and he is hoping to prove critics that he is a capable every-down back. 'Hopefully, I can get people to get that knock off me about not being an every-down back,' Bush said. 'I can't please everybody. It's a business. It is what it is.'

Footballguys view: Bush may have that starting job for the next few weeks. Matt Forte's ankle injury is not as severe as originally thought but we still think he comes back in week 7, after the Bears have their bye.

Bears | Matt Forte won't practice Wednesday    Mon Sep 17, 06:32 PM

Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith said RB Matt Forte (ankle) won't be on the field when the team resumes practice Wednesday, Sept. 19, but Forte wasn't wearing an ankle brace or a walking boot Monday, Sept. 17, and didn't look to be in noticeable pain when jogging. 'He looked pretty good today,' Smith said. 'We're not ruling him out of anything just yet. He has a long way to go. I don't want you to start thinking he'll be out there practicing tomorrow; he's not. But we're making progress.'

Footballguys view: Forte doesn't have a high ankle sprain but may not return to the field for their week 3 game against the Rams. Michael Bush would start for the team if Forte can't play.

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte (ankle) never returned to the team's Week 2 game against the Green Bay Packers due to an ankle injury. He went into the locker room for X-rays during the game and didn't return. He finished the game with seven rushing attempts for 31 yards and had a team-high four receptions for 49 yards during the game before his departure. Michael Bush replaced him the rest of the game. Forte's status for Week 3 is unknown at this time.

Bears | Matt Forte unhappy about losing goal-line carries?    Mon Sep 10, 11:45 AM

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte did not appear pleased following Week 1 about losing goal-line carries to RB Michael Bush. Bush scored two one-yard touchdowns in the game. 'It's been happening my whole career here, so I don't know,' Forte said when asked about not finishing drives. 'That's the coordinator's call.' Forte had eight more touches than Bush, who had 12 carries for 42 yards and no receptions.

Footballguys view: He'll get over it. Bush was brought in to serve a role, and that is as the Bears goalline back. Forte will still get his from time to time, but the Bears want to go a different direction sometimes when they get in the red zone. This obviously hurts his fantasy value, but Forte has never been much of a TD hog so his owners should be used to it.

Bears | OC envisions two 1,000-yard RBs    Fri Aug 24, 01:14 PM

Chicago Bears RB Michael Bush said offensive coordinator Mike Tice told him this offseason that he wants Bush and RB Matt Forte to rush for at least 1,000 yards each this season.

Footballguys view: Matt Forte's ADP will probably drop more than it should on this news. Bush is still a complement to Forte, their salaries indicate as much. This could make Bush a more attractive flex play in any given week, but Forte's presence will keep Bush from becoming a reliable fantasy starter.

Bears | Michael Bush to get bulk of goal-line work    Sat Aug 4, 08:01 PM

The Chicago Bears plan to use RB Michael Bush for a bulk of the work around the goal line. Bush lined up in goal-line drills early last week, and offensive coordinator Mike Tice and running backs coach Tim Spencer confirmed that's the plan.

Footballguys view: Bush may want a bigger role this year, but that's unlikely unless Matt Forte goes down with an injury. Stealing away goal-line carries will impact Forte's fantasy value, but we still see him as a top 10 fantasy RB in 2012.

Bears | Michael Bush happy with role?    Sat Jul 28, 10:15 AM

Chicago Bears RB Michael Bush does not sound like a player who is thrilled with his role as a short-yardage back. When asked if he dislikes that role, he said, 'No one likes to be a battering ram. It just happens that way.' Bush would prefer to be a back who does it all.

Footballguys view: He'll get over it. With Forte back in the fold it will limit the touches for Bush. He's veteran insurance against a Forte injury and won't get many carries so long as Forte is healthy.

Bears | Michael Bush working with starters    Mon May 28, 03:03 PM

Chicago Bears RB Michael Bush has been working with the first-team offense during organized team activities because franchise free-agent RB Matt Forte has not been present.

Footballguys view: Forte is unhappy with his current contract situation and a holdout may last through training camp. The Bears have concerns with Forte's knees and are not willing to pay him the type of money he wants. Bush was picked up in free agency and could be in line to start if Forte misses significant time. Bush's current ADP has him being selected at the beginning of the 8th round.

Chicago Bears LB Brian Urlacher said he expects franchise free-agent RB Matt Forte to report on time for training camp even though he is not expected to take part in offseason workouts. Urlacher thinks Forte's absence will allow RB Michael Bush to learn the offense during the workouts.

Footballguys view: Forte is not happy with his contract situation and has taken to Twitter to express his frustration. He may miss all of the Offseason Training Activities and this could last into training camp as well.

Bears | Coach sees Michael Bush as complete back    Wed Mar 28, 04:31 PM

Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith said the team added RB Michael Bush this offseason because he has the ability to be an all-around back in the offense.

Footballguys view: Smith is right. Bush can be a workhorse RB, but is also a reliable receiver out of the backfield. Last year we saw Bush wear down, so a RBBC with Matt Forte would help keep him fresh.

Bears | Lovie Smith speaks with Matt Forte     Mon Mar 26, 07:57 AM

Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith said he has spoken to franchise free-agent RB Matt Forte since the running back's angry reaction to the signing of RB Michael Bush. While Smith didn't say the situation had been resolved, he seemed confident that it would be. 'We love him, he's going to rush for a lot of yards for us,' Smith said. 'It's going to work out fine.'

Footballguys view: Forte seemed upset when he took to Twitter after the Bears signed Michael Bush. He's done things the right way and has been patient waiting for a new contract. Now the team has leverage over him with the addition of Bush. We'll see if the two sides can work out a mutually acceptable contract.

Bears | Michael Bush provides relief     Thu Mar 22, 12:15 PM

The addition of RB Michael Bush suggests the Chicago Bears will not be desperate to get franchise free-agent RB Matt Forte in the fold, and the overall running back market means Forte can't expect much out of a long-term deal.

Footballguys view: Bush's signing provides leverage against Forte in both contract negotiations and a holdout, so any negative reaction from Forte is understandable.

Bears | Michael Bush added    Thu Mar 22, 11:59 AM

The Chicago Bears signed free-agent RB Michael Bush (Raiders) to a four-year deal worth $14 million Thursday, March 22. Bush will have $7 million in guarantees.

Footballguys view: Bush slightly cuts into Matt Forte's value because of his short-yardage prowess and ability to handle more than a backup's workload. Still, Forte will be more effective more touch and overall probably hasn't fallen as much as the initial reaction will indicate.

Raiders | Could Michael Bush return?    Wed Mar 21, 12:37 PM

The potential of free-agent RB Michael Bush returning to the Oakland Raiders seems more and more plausible. He has said he enjoys playing for the Raiders on more than one occasion, but he wanted to test the open market to see if he could be a lead back somewhere.

Footballguys view: No team has rushed out to sign Bush, so the Raiders are looking like a more and more likely destination.

Chargers | Not in Michael Bush derby    Wed Mar 21, 12:31 PM

The San Diego Chargers are not in the running to sign free-agent RB Michael Bush (Raiders), according to a team source. Bush is likely to command more than $3 million per year, which is more than the Chargers are willing to spend on their backup running back. If the market somehow dries up and Bush could come at a lower cost, the Chargers may consider jumping back in because they are high on Bush's talent.
