The offense certainly has a lot of work to do, but the defense has some nice pieces in place. The team will need to get after the quarterback as they play in a division that features Peyton Manning and Philip Rivers. If the Raiders want to win more than a small handful of games, they'll need their defense to come through. |

Oakland Raiders OT Jared Veldheer (triceps) and LB Miles Burris (knee) are working their way back, but head coach Dennis Allen said neither player is ready for football activities just yet. Burris is on the Physically Unable to Perform list and is eligible to begin practicing this week. Veldheer resides on the Injured Reserve-Designated to Return list and isn't eligible to play until Nov. 3.

Oakland Raiders LB Miles Burris (knee) and OT Menelik Watson (undisclosed) did not practice Friday, July 26, but they worked off to the side with team trainers. Watson is on the non-football injury (NFI) list due to an injury suffered recently, although head coach Dennis Allen did not give further details. Burris is on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, as he recovers from offseason knee surgery. Allen said he isn't sure when either player would be able to practice.

Oakland Raiders LB Rolando McClain lost playing time to LB Miles Burris in the team's nickel package in Week 6. McClain played in just 17 snaps, while Burris played in all 55 of the defensive snaps. Head coach Dennis Allen said he doesn't foresee getting away from the new alignment, given how well Burris has played. 'Every week, we're going to evaluate and see where we're at, but he did enough to earn the right to be back out there in nickel situations,' Allen said.

Oakland Raiders LB Rolando McClain saw less of the field in Week 6 against the Atlanta falcons, with the team using LBs Miles Burris and Philip Wheeler in their nickel package. McClain's snaps dropped from 73 in the previous game to just 17 in Week 6. Burris increased from 27 of 77 snaps two games ago to all 55 defensive snaps against the Falcons.
