Browns | Cut Nate Burleson    Sat Aug 30, 10:06 AM

The Cleveland Browns cut WR Nate Burleson Saturday, Aug. 30.

Footballguys view: It's a bad sign when a team absolutely DESPERATE for wide receiver help lets you go....and you're a wide receiver. Burleson's a savvy veteran but oft-injured and nowhere near what he used to be.

Browns | Nate Burleson active    Thu Aug 28, 06:43 PM

Cleveland Browns WR Nate Burleson (hamstring) is active and could play in the team's final preseason game Thursday, Aug. 28.

Footballguys view: A good sign that he might be available come Week 1, which will be a big help for Brian Hoyer. Burleson has lost most of the last two years to injury but the three seasons before that he was catching 62% of his passes and he could be a favorite target of Hoyer's if he stays healthy. Consider him a WR6 with upside, albeit minimal due to the rest of the team and a potential run heavy offense.

Browns | Nate Burleson may be in final season    Mon Aug 11, 02:58 AM

Cleveland Browns WR Nate Burleson may call it quits following the season if 2014 is a successful year. 'I think I got a good opportunity with this team being that I'm turning 33 in a week or so,' Burleson said. 'I've got a chance to catch a lot of balls. This is one of those offenses where they like to throw it down the field.'

Footballguys view: Burleson has fought threw several different injuries over the past few years. He's not quite the same player he used to be, but the Browns certainly need him to stay healthy--especially if (when) Josh Gordon is suspended.

The Cleveland Browns are expected to be active in exploring free-agent wide receivers. Their receiving corps doesn't have much size outside of likely suspended WR Josh Gordon. WRs Miles Austin and Nate Burleson have long injury histories.

Footballguys view: The Browns are going to look everywhere for WR help. Cleveland may pursue CFL standout Duron Carter, son of Hall of Famer Cris Carter. He's currently with the Montreal Alouettes and starring in the CFL.

Cleveland Browns WR Nate Burleson (arm) is participating in practice Saturday, July 26.

Browns | Charles Johnson intriguing    Tue Jul 22, 11:22 AM

Cleveland Browns WR Charles X. Johnson is expected to get a chance to rise up the depth chart and challenge the older Miles Austin and Nate Burleson for snaps.

Footballguys view: Johnson is a name to keep in mind if you play in super deep dynasty leagues. The Browns are desperate for help at the wide receiver position, and there's a real opportunity in the passing game behind guys like Andrew Hawkins and Jordan Cameron.

Browns | Jordan Cameron, Nate Burleson participate in OTAs    Thu Jun 12, 07:43 PM

Cleveland Browns TE Jordan Cameron (knee) and WR Nate Burleson (arm) were able to participate in some drills during organized team activities Thursday, June 12, but did sit out team drills.

Footballguys view: Great news to see Burleson return for the Browns. While he isn't Josh Gordon, he was very reliable for the Detroit Lions and will be a stabilizing person for either Brian Hoyer or Johnny Manziel. Until we see how the offense takes form, he's a late round pick.

Browns | Nate Burleson doing position drills    Tue Jun 10, 12:08 PM

Browns | Nate Burleson has cast removed    Mon Jun 9, 03:29 PM

Cleveland Browns WR Nate Burleson (arm) had the cast on his left arm removed Monday, June 9.

Footballguys view: Burleson did not re-break his left arm, but the plate that was inserted needed to be removed for the veteran wideout. We'll see Burleson play a larger role than originally expected. With a season-long suspension looming for Josh Gordon, the team is going to have to rely on Burleson, Andrew Hawkins and Miles Austin to be their top wide receivers this year.

Browns | Nate Burleson's arm injury was minor    Tue Jun 3, 04:57 PM

Cleveland Browns WR Nate Burleson (arm) said he did not fracture his arm during an April minicamp and it was just a minor injury. He said the severity of the injury was exaggerated. Because there was no fracture, Burleson was able to run and lift weights with the cast on.

Footballguys view: The severity might have been exaggerated because of his arm injury from last year. The Browns need all the help they can get at wide receiver with Josh Gordon facing a year-long suspension. Even if Burleson is healthy, we can't imagine him being much of a fantasy factor this season. Miles Austin (WR59, 13.05) and Andrew Hawkins (WR61, 13.08) are the only two Browns wide receivers getting drafted in most 12-team PPR leagues.

Browns | Josh Gordon facing year ban    Fri May 9, 06:45 PM

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon is facing a year-long suspension after another failed drug test months ago for marijuana, according to sources. 'That's something you're going to have to talk to (agent) Drew Rosenhaus about. I really don't know anything about it,' Gordon said. Rosenhaus didn't comment, other to say the report was 'not true.' Gordon had drug-testing problems in college, as well, and was dismissed from Baylor after being suspended for marijuana use twice.

Footballguys view: The celebration in Cleveland was short lived. This is a tough pill to swallow and will hurt an offense which seemed poised to take off. They can still add an impact receiver in the second round but leaving Sammy Watkins on the board is going to make a lot of people scratch their heads.

Lions | Ndamakong Suh signing could hamstring team    Sun Feb 16, 03:15 AM

Detroit Lions DT Ndamukong Suh's presence on the roster comes with a price tag of $22.4 million, which gives the team almost no flexibility to do anything else in free agency. Even with the extra $11.5 million the team saved by releasing S Louis Delmas and WR Nate Burleson, the Lions do not have enough cap space to sign all of the team's prospective draft picks this May.   Lions | Unlikely to bring back Nate Burleson    Thu Feb 13, 03:04 PM

Updating a previous report, it is highly unlikely the team brings back free-agent WR Nate Burleson, in the opinion of Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

Footballguys view: The question is, how do they propose to fill the space left by Burleson? Are they that confident in Ryan Broyles or are they aiming for a free agency signing? They don't have much cap space, even after cutting both Burleson and safety Louis Delmas.

NFL | Nate Burleson wants to keep playing    Thu Feb 13, 02:35 PM

Free-agent WR Nate Burleson (Lions) wants to keep playing in 2014.

Lions | Could bring back Nate Burleson     Thu Feb 13, 02:06 PM

The release of Detroit Lions WR Nate Burleson does not mean he is done with the team. He could re-sign with the team for less money, which is something he is willing to do.

Footballguys view: Burleson has been a good team guy and a very useful veteran over the course of his Lions career and the team would be well served to bring him back. He's been a steady presence on the field and off.

Buccaneers | Could be landing spot for Nate Burleson     Thu Feb 13, 01:54 PM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers could be a good landing spot for impending free-agent WR Nate Burleson (Lions), in the opinion of Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

Footballguys view: Burleson could be a nice, reliable fit for quarterback Mike Glennon. Especially with some question as to Mike William's long-term outlook with the Bucs given some missed meetings and off-field issues. Even with Williams there, Burleson would be a big help for the second year quarterback.

Lions | Will release Nate Burleson    Thu Feb 13, 01:53 PM

The Detroit Lions have informed WR Nate Burleson that he will be released Thursday, Feb. 13.

Footballguys view: While Burleson is an aging veteran, this is a bit of an odd move as the Lions have nobody else beyond Calvin Johnson. They must feel really good about Ryan Broyles or have plans to go after someone in free agency.

Lions | Nate Burleson probable    Fri Nov 22, 04:35 PM

Detroit Lions WR Nate Burleson (forearm) fully practiced Friday, Nov. 22, and is probable for Week 12.

Lions | Nate Burleson cleared for contact    Thu Nov 21, 09:55 PM

Detroit Lions WR Nate Burleson (forearm) has been cleared for contact and should be able to play Week 12 unless he suffers a setback. Burleson will wear a protective sleeve on his forearm when he returns to the field.

Footballguys view: Burleson was a huge target magnet before pizza made him crash his car. Some healing time and a DiGiorno sponsorship later and he's almost back on the field. Things have worked well without him as Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush but they still lack a threat opposite Megatron. Burleson could see a lot of work in short order and is worth a spot on your bench if you can spare it.

'I caught the ball last week very well, ran some routes, had some physical contact. So this week is taking another step.' He still needs to be cleared by doctors, however.

Footballguys view: An important note for fantasy owners here. Burleson is worth adding for around five percent of your free agent budget in PPR leagues. Now that he's back we like him as a flex play with upside for the Lions.
