Lions | Team shutting down ailing Bullocks    Tue Aug 11, 06:43 PM

Tom Kowalski, from MLive.com, reports while discussing the injury situation concerning safety Daniel Bullocks, Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz didn't say much and what he did say was fairly vague. None of it, though, sounded good. "We're going to shut him down for a little while and then sort of take it slow again with an eye toward with getting him back on the field,'' Schwartz said. "He's not day-to-day, he's a little bit longer than that, but I'd like to get him back on the field sooner rather than later.''

Footballguys view: IDP fantasy players need to keep Kalvin Pearson in mind as a nice sleeper pick.

Lions | Pearson leads the battle at strong safety    Tue Aug 4, 08:23 PM

Tom Kowalski, from MLive.com, reports the battle at strong safety is wide open and it's being contested by several players, including Kalvin Pearson, Daniel Bullocks and Marquand Manuel. Throughout the offseason workouts and for most of camp, Pearson has assumed the safety position next to Delmas. Pearson, though, isn't reading anything into that. "Not right now, because they say everything's up for grabs," said Pearson, who joined the Lions last season as a free agent. "I'm coming into this year like I always do. I'm going to work every day like I'm not a starter and wait for the first game."

Lions | Secondary fleshing itself out    Wed Jul 29, 03:34 AM

John Niyo, of The Detroit News, reports Detroit Lions rookie S Louis Delmas emerged as a vocal leader in the defense during the summer and appears to be locked in at one safety spot. The other figures to have plenty of competition in training camp, as Kalvin Pearson, Marquand Manuel and Daniel Bullocks could be in the mix. At cornerback, it appears Anthony Henry and Phillip Buchanon will be the starting pair. CB Eric King is likely to battle for the top nickel back role, while Keith Smith will challenge him.

Footballguys view: The strong safety battle could yield one of the best IDP deep sleepers, so it merits watching.

Lions | Could Henry move to safety?    Wed Jul 8, 11:41 AM

Tom Kowalski, of Mlive.com, reports Detroit Lions CB Anthony Henry could be moved from cornerback to safety at some point during training camp if FS Daniel Bullocks fails to impress the coaching staff.

Footballguys view: Henry is an eight-year veteran that played his first four seasons in Cleveland before spending the last four seasons in Dallas. He went to the Cowboys as a cornerback, but was being transitioned to safety and was expected to be the starting free safety in Dallas before being traded to Detroit for QB Jon Kitna. He's not as fast as he used to be but because he's a crafty veteran the Lions feel they can play him at either position.
