Bills | Justin Brown claimed off waivers    Tue Feb 3, 12:46 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Justin Brown was claimed off waivers by the Buffalo Bills Tuesday, Feb. 3.

Footballguys view: Brown was a sixth-round pick by the Steelers in 2013. He failed to make an impact and only caught 12 passes in eight games. Brown is buried on the depth chart in Buffalo, and he will be a longshot to make the final roster.

Steelers | Justin Brown ahead of Lance Moore    Thu Oct 9, 12:03 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Justin Brown is higher on the depth chart than WR Lance Moore, because the team believes Brown is a better receiver than Moore.

Footballguys view: Well, having someone ahead of someone else on a depth chart is often an indication that the former is better at the position than the latter, but that's just us. In other obvious news. neither Brown nor Moore is worth having in your lineup. Dynasty owners, take note of Brown's ascension here.

Steelers | Lance Moore won't play    Fri Sep 5, 04:31 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Lance Moore (groin) did not practice Friday, Sept. 5, and has been ruled out for Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns. It'll open up snaps for WRs Justin Brown and/or Martavis Bryant (shoulder), but Bryant is unlikely to play because of a shoulder ailment. That means Brown and WR Darrius Heyward-Bey will likely be used alongside WRs Antonio Brown and Markus Wheaton. Browns CB Joe Haden is likely to lock on to Brown for the majority of the game, meaning the other receivers could see good opportunities to make an impact.

Footballguys view: Deep dynasty leaguers should note the performance of Brown, who is one of the bigger wide receivers on the roster.

Steelers | Darrius Heyward-Bey in good shape    Thu Aug 28, 01:01 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Darrius Heyward-Bey appears to be in good shape for a roster spot, as the team will likely keep six receivers on the 53-man roster. WRs Antonio Brown, Markus Wheaton, Lance Moore, Martavis Bryant, Justin Brown and Heyward-Bey are expected to comprise the group.

Footballguys view: DHB has always looked good and always played with aggressive mediocrity. There is some room for him to step up, but we don't expect it anymore this time than the last dozen or so times we were told "this is the year." Looking at that list of receivers, it's hard to imagine him cracking the lineup on a regular basis barring massive injuries.

Steelers | Justin Brown may have edge for No. 4 WR job    Sun Aug 3, 09:12 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Justin Brown is listed as the primary backup to WR Antonio Brown at one of the wide receiver spots on the team's first depth chart and appears to be the leading candidate for the No. 4 wide receiver job.

Footballguys view: The 2013 sixth-round pick has the size and ball-tracking ability to be a quality deep target. He broke his nose in training camp this year, but that hasn't slowed him down.

Steelers | Justin Brown not practicing    Fri Aug 1, 07:08 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Justin Brown (nose) is not participating in practice Friday, Aug. 1, because of a broken nose.

Footballguys view: A broken nose is more annoying than anything. The team will monitor Brown closely, but he should be able to get back out there in the near future.

Steelers | Three fighting for No. 5 WR job    Mon Jul 7, 06:59 PM

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers WRs Justin Brown, Darrius Heyward-Bey and Derek Moye are still battling for the No. 5 wide receiver job. WRs Antonio Brown, Lance Moore, Markus Wheaton and Martavis Bryant hold the top four spots on the depth chart.

Footballguys view: Justin Brown has been the subject of some positive reports and he should be seen as the leader right now. Heyward-Bey would add speed, and Moye would be the biggest receiver on the roster, so this will be an interesting battle to watch.

Steelers | Justin Brown sees time with starters    Mon Jun 16, 04:17 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Justin Brown received some work with the first-team offense during the last week of organized team activities, because WR Markus Wheaton (leg, foot) was dealing with a leg or foot injury.

Footballguys view: The second-year wide receiver spent last year on the practice squad, but the team is looking for him to do more this year. The former Oklahoma and Penn State wide receiver has a good size/speed combination. We'll see if he can find a spot on the final roster behind the players like Antonio Brown, Markus Wheaton and Lance Moore and Martavis Bryant.

Steelers | Three-way battle for No. 5 WR job?    Sat Jun 7, 10:27 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WRs Antonio Brown, Markus Wheaton and Lance Moore are expected to be the team's top three wideouts, with WR Martavis Bryant likely a lock to also make the roster. That leaves one job open, with WRs Justin Brown, Darrius Heyward-Bey and Derek Moye likely battling it out for the spot.

Footballguys view: We like Moye here. He's skinny, but he can fly down the field and track passes over his shoulder. Heyward-Bey is the best run-blocker of the group, but he has difficulty catching passes. That's kind of a bad thing when you're a wide receiver.

Steelers | Justin Brown shooting for special teams    Fri May 23, 02:34 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Justin Brown is hoping to make the team via special teams. Brown said he's trying to do whatever he can to contribute after not making the team's final roster last year.

Footballguys view: Brown was a sixth-round pick in the 2013 NFL draft. Standing at 6'3" Brown makes for a good red-zone threat. He has the quickness and agility to be a standout player on special teams. Behind starter Antonio Brown, the depth chart seems to be wide open in Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed RB Alvester Alexander, WR Justin Brown, G Bryant Browning, G Chris Hubbard, WR Kashif Moore, S Ross Ventrone and LB Kion Wilson to futures contracts Tuesday, Dec. 31. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed RB Alvester Alexander, DE Brian Arnfelt, LB Alan Baxter, WR Justin Brown, LB Terence Garvin, OL Chris Hubbard, OL Joe Long and DB Devin Smith to the practice squad.

Footballguys view: Alexander is a good all-purpose runner who can be used effectively as a receiver out of the backfield. Monitor him in super deep dynasty leagues.

Steelers | Two WRs competing for one spot    Thu Aug 29, 03:28 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WRs Justin Brown and Derek Moye likely are competing for the last wide receiver spot on the final roster. Brown could have an edge if the competition is close because he was a sixth-round draft pick and can return punts.

Footballguys view: The rookie from Oklahoma can quickly beat the jam at the line of scrimmage and gets into his routes quickly. He can make contested catches but has to because he doesn't create a lot of separation in his routes.

Steelers | Markus Wheaton could be deep threat    Wed May 29, 02:25 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Markus Wheaton, the team's third-round draft pick, might be the logical choice to replace WR Mike Wallace as the team's deep receiving threat this year. Wheaton ran a 4.5-second 40-yard dash before the draft, but he won't be able to work out with the team until he graduates from Oregon State. Fellow rookie WR Justin Brown will compete with Wheaton for playing time this year.

Footballguys view: Wheaton is a fantastic addition by the Steelers. When he gets up to speed with the pro game then he will be a dangerous weapon for Ben Roethlisberger. Wheaton has speed, concentration, and can track deep passes easily over his shoulder.

Steelers | Justin Brown signed    Thu May 23, 04:00 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed sixth-round draft choice WR Justin Brown to a four-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Brown (Oklahoma, Penn State transfer) has a good size/speed combination. He's not a lock to make the final roster but could impress in camp enough to earn a spot on the practice squad. With the team's recent track record of drafting quality WRs deep dynasty owners should keep an eye on Brown.
