Jets | Curtis Brown signs    Tue Feb 10, 04:31 PM

Free-agent CB Curtis Brown (Steelers) has signed with the New York Jets Tuesday, Feb. 10.

Footballguys view: Brown was a third-round pick for the Steelers in the 2011 NFL draft. He was out of football in 2015 after getting released by the Steelers last March. Brown spent time recovering from a torn ACL, and now he gets a fresh start with the Jets.

Steelers | Three players released    Wed Mar 5, 04:15 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers have released OT Levi J. Brown, LB Larry Foote and CB Curtis Brown.

Footballguys view: More painful cuts for the Steelers here. They've restructured the deals of Troy Polamalu and Heath Miller today, but that wasn't enough. Before this flurry of activity, the Steelers were one of two teams in the NFL over the salary cap. Foote is the long-time Steeler here, but he may retire after seeing his skill set dwindle over the last year or two.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have declared DL Alameda Ta'amu, QB Byron Leftwich, CB Curtis Brown, WR David Gilreath, CB Justin King, DL Loni Fangupo, LB Marshall McFadden inactive for Week 17.

Footballguys view: The Steelers generally play their top-line players for the whole week 17 game regardless of what's on the line. They are one of the better offenses to use from those that aren't trying to earn a playoff spot or better seeding today.

Pittsburgh Steelers CB Cortez Allen (groin), CB Curtis Brown (knee), LB James Harrison (illness), DE Cam Heyward (non-injury), CB Keenan Lewis (hip), SS Troy Polamalu (non-injury), C Maurkice Pouncey (illness), WR Emmanuel Sanders (rib) and DE Al Woods (illness) are probable for Week 16. Allen, Heyward, Polamalu, Sanders and Woods practiced in full Friday, Dec. 21, while the others were limited.

Footballguys view: Lewis's status was in question after he hurt himself stepping in a hole on the practice field (really), but it sounds like he'll be good to go for Sunday. The Steelers shut down AJ Green the last they faced the Bengals, but they are without Ike Taylor, so that will be a harder task this week.

Steelers | Secondary suffers minus Ike Taylor    Tue Dec 11, 01:25 PM

Without Pittsburgh Steelers CB Ike Taylor (ankle) in Week 14, the San Diego Chargers took advantage and targeted CB Curtis Brown in the secondary. Brown entered the game in the team's sub-package defenses. He gave up four first-down catches in his 26 snaps played, and he was targeted six times and allowed six grabs for 84 yards and a touchdown. Brown was later benched for CB Josh Victorian, who also surrendered a touchdown. CB Cortez Allen also struggled while moving to the slot in the nickel, and he was targeted seven times, giving up six catches for 46 yards, including three third-down conversions.

Footballguys view: Start your WRs against the Steelers until Taylor comes back from this ankle injury. Allen has struggled mightily and now he's banged up with a hip flexor. The Cowboys play the Steelers in week 15. We expect Dez Bryant (if he plays) and Miles Austin to put up huge numbers against a weak Steelers secondary.

Steelers | Curtis Brown to work in nickel package    Sat Apr 30, 02:41 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers secondary coach Carnell Lake said Friday, April 29, that CB Curtis Brown, a third-round pick in the NFL Draft, will be used as a nickel back first and special teams contributor. 'I'm just ready to step in and do whatever I can to get on the field, special teams or whatever,' Browns said.

Footballguys view: Steelers need all the secondary help that they can get. Brown can play man, up on the line or back off to protect against a big play.
