Saints | Brandon Browner to be released    Fri Feb 5, 12:12 PM

Updating a previous item, New Orleans Saints CB Brandon Browner will be released by the team, according to sources. By league rules the Saints can't cut him until after the Super Bowl. Browner will cost $6.3 million against the salary cap in 2016 and is due $5 million in salary and bonuses, including $2.75 million fully guaranteed. New Orleans will save $950,000 in cap space and $2.25 million in cash if they wait until after March 9 to release him. Browner was flagged for 24 penalties (21 accepted) this year, which was the most by any player in a season since at least 2001.

Footballguys view: Browner was maybe the signature player in a pass defense that threatened to break records for futility in 2015. The Saints defense has a long way to go to get back to respectability when they improve by releasing high dollar signings.

Falcons | Julio Jones to draw Browner    Thu Oct 15, 12:25 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones, who won't be on a pitch count because of hamstring and toe injuries in Week 6 against the New Orleans Saints Thursday, Oct. 15, is likely to draw Saints CB Brandon Browner, who has allowed more receiving yards to opposing wide receivers than any cornerback in the league.

Footballguys view: We still see Jones as a solid WR1, though Browner is such a physical player that the hamstring could be aggravated. Still, it's hard to shut Jones out of your lineup any week.

Seahawks | Brandon Browner activated    Mon Dec 31, 07:18 PM

Seattle Seahawks CB Brandon Browner was added to the 53 man roster Monday, Dec. 31, after serving a four game suspension. Browner is hoping to return to the starting lineup, but head coach Pete Carroll is concerned about rust. 'I talked to him today,' Carroll said. 'He's here, he has worked out real hard and his weight's in shape. He feels fast and all of that, he's going to have fresh legs relative to guys who are 16 games into it. But we've got to see how he does, and fortunately we've got guys who can play. If he's not quite right or if he doesn't get off to a good start during the week, we've got other guys who can play for him. But we're going to give him a heck of a chance to play. We're thrilled to get him back, so we'll see what happens.'

Footballguys view: Huge news for the Seahawks here. Browner's return is going to strengthen the already tough defense. Richard Sherman had his suspension overturned and will be on the field throughout the entire playoff run. The Seahawks have a defense that can cause problems for any team in the postseason.

Seahawks | Brandon Browner suspended    Wed Dec 5, 03:40 PM

Footballguys view: It's part of what could be a crushing blow for the Seahawks defense. Richard Sherman will have his appeal heard on December 14th and may be suspended shortly after that. The team's official website lists Walter Thurmond III as the replacement for Browner. This leaves veteran Marcus Trufant as their nickel Cornerback.

Seahawks | Two DBs facing four-game suspensions    Sun Nov 25, 07:31 PM

Seattle Seahawks CBs Brandon Browner and Richard Sherman are each facing four-game suspensions for violating the NFL's performance-enhancement drug policy.
