NFL | Andre Brown, Erin Henderson suspended    Thu Sep 4, 07:52 PM

Free-agent RB Andre Brown (Texans) and LB Erin Henderson (Vikings) have been suspended for the start of the season, according to a league source. Brown will be banned eight games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs, and Henderson receives a four-game suspension for running afoul of the league's policy on substances of abuse.

Footballguys view: Could be a contributing factor in Brown's release if the Texans knew it was coming. A rough blow for the Vikings though, as Henderson is an important piece of the defense.

NFL | Andre Brown clears waivers    Tue Aug 12, 05:06 PM

Free-agent RB Andre Brown (Texans) cleared waivers Tuesday, Aug. 12, and is eligible to sign with any team.

Footballguys view: Brown is now clear to sign with any team. He may have to wait until after the start of the regular season to find a new home. However, a team like the Broncos could be interested in the camp cut.

Texans | Andre Brown not a lock to make team    Mon Aug 11, 06:24 PM

Houston Texans RB Andre Brown is in a tough spot to make the team right now, according to head coach Bill O'Brien. It looks like RBs Jonathan Grimes and Alfred Blue are currently ahead of Brown in the running back pecking order.

Footballguys view: Bad news for the veteran here. Brown is a seasoned player with plenty of experience. He's looked good in limited duty at different points during his NFL career. Brown has also been banged up quite a bit since he came out of North Carolina State in 2009.

Texans | Two may compete for No. 2 RB job    Wed Jul 2, 02:33 PM

Houston Texans RBs Andre Brown and Alfred Blue may be the two main candidates for the No. 2 running back job during training camp.

Footballguys view: Brown has the edge because of his years of experience in the NFL. Blue is a rookie who was never really featured in college at LSU. It's an important race to watch for fantasy owners because the RB2 will be behind aging veteran Arian Foster.

Texans | Andre Brown to see early down work    Wed Jun 4, 08:49 AM

Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said RB Andre Brown is a first- and second-down running back.

Footballguys view: Brown is a capable runner when healthy, but it sounds like the Texans aren't going to use him on third downs. We'll see Brown as the primary backup behind Arian Foster this year with Ben Tate (Browns) moving on in free agency.

Texans | Andre Brown agrees to terms    Mon Apr 7, 04:16 PM

The Houston Texans have agreed to terms with free-agent RB Andre Brown (Giants). Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Texans | Andre Brown visits    Mon Apr 7, 09:52 AM

The Houston Texans are visiting with free-agent RB Andre Brown (Giants) Monday, April 7.

Footballguys view: Brown hasn't been able to attract much interest on the open market. His age and War and Peace like injury history are likely held against him. With Ben Tate (Browns) moving on in free agency, the Texans could add a guy like Brown to be a backup behind Arian Foster.

Raiders | Interested in Andre Brown    Tue Mar 11, 06:50 PM

The Oakland Raiders have interest in free-agent RB Andre Brown (Giants).

Footballguys view: Now that Rashad Jennings and Peyton Hillis have signed with the Giants, we could see Brown go elsewhere. He's already played in the AFC West before, during his brief time with the Broncos in 2010. The Raiders could look to upgrade the running back depth chart behind Darren McFadden and Marcel Reece.

Giants | Would like to keep Andre Brown    Tue Mar 4, 11:50 PM

The New York Giants have expressed an interest in bringing back impending free-agent RB Andre Brown, but nothing is imminent.

Footballguys view: Brown has a long injury history in the NFL, and that may keep the market cool for his services. The Giants can't rely on David Wilson as he's coming off the neck injury that cost him the 2013 season. Keeping Brown around would be a good idea if the price is right.

Giants | No progress on contract for Andre Brown     Wed Feb 26, 03:36 PM

There has been no progress of late between the New York Giants and impending unrestricted free agent RB Andre Brown on a new contract.

Footballguys view: Brown is just another name in a very deep running back free agent pool. His injury history probably relegates him to a one-year deal for not very much money. He is unlikely to be brought in as an uncontested starter.

Giants | Three could re-sign before free agency    Fri Jan 31, 02:46 PM

The New York Giants LB Jon Beason, RB Andre Brown and FS Stevie Brown all could be re-signed by the team before the start of free agency.

Footballguys view: The Giants need to address the running back position. Keeping Brown, in addition to selecting a back in the draft would be wise for the Giants.

Giants | Likely will look to add at RB    Thu Jan 9, 08:46 PM

The New York Giants likely will add one or two running backs in free agency or the 2014 NFL Draft because RB David Wilson (neck) is undergoing surgery and RB Andre Brown will be an unrestricted free agent.

Footballguys view: We already expect them to try and retain Brown, whose injury history may make other teams balk but the Wilson news was surprising, and points to them needing to reboot their backfield anyway. Expect them to look around at some free agents like Rashad Jennings and Ben Tate as well as dipping their toe into the draft as well, though no earlier than Day 2.

Giants | Andre Brown probable    Fri Dec 27, 03:18 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Brown (concussion) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 27, and is probable for Week 17.

Footballguys view: Brown should play, but it's going to be difficult for fantasy owners to trust him in Week 17 championships. Consider him a RB3/flex play.

Giants | Andre Brown fully practices    Thu Dec 26, 02:46 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Brown (concussion) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 26.

Footballguys view: Brown could have a big day against Washington, as poorly as that team has played of late. He can put in a strong argument for being a starting back in 2014. As always, injuries are a concern though and he has to prove he can stay healthy.

Giants | Andre Brown felt good on trip home    Mon Dec 23, 12:09 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Brown (concussion) felt good on the trip home, according to head coach Tom Coughlin. Coughlin said that does not mean anything though about his status.

Footballguys view: It's a good sign that he felt good, but it no way indicates his status. Brown will have to pass the NFL's concussion protocol before getting back on the field.

Giants | Andre Brown carted off    Sun Dec 22, 07:48 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Brown (concussion) was carted off in overtime of the Week 16 game against the Detroit Lions. He was taken to the locker room to be evaluated for concussion.

Footballguys view: Brown missed time with a concussion last year, so this may sideline him for Week 17. He will be a free agent next year and this year has not done much to dispel his reputation as an injury-prone player.

Giants | Peyton Hillis likely to see action    Fri Nov 29, 04:25 PM

New York Giants RB Peyton Hillis is likely to be active in Week 13 against the Washington Redskins with RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) inactive. Hillis will back up RB Andre Brown.

Footballguys view: Hillis may get a few goal line touches here and there. We still can't recommend him as anything more than a desperation flex play.

Giants | RB roles clearer    Fri Nov 22, 05:57 PM

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin doesn't expect to change things up when it comes to the roles of his running backs. Last week against the Green Bay Packers, RB Andre Brown was the lead back with RB Brandon Jacobs serving as the goal-line and short-yardage option. Brown had 18 carries for 75 percent of the workload, with Jacobs having five touches. RB Michael Cox will likely continue to be used on special teams, meaning RB Peyton Hillis would be inactive for the second straight week.

Footballguys view: Brown is facing a Cowboys defense that is without two starting linebackers, including defensive MVP Sean Lee. They gave up huge games to all three Saints running backs in Week 10, so Brown is almost a must play against Dallas.

Giants | Andre Brown practicing    Wed Nov 13, 11:04 AM

New York Giants RB Andre Brown (soreness) practiced Wednesday, Nov. 13.

Footballguys view: It's a good sign for Brown if he's practicing on Wednesday. He had a large role after Peyton Hillis fumbled last week. Brown will be the lead back going forward and is worth starting as a RB2.

Giants | Andre Brown sore after win    Mon Nov 11, 11:51 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Brown (leg) was sore after the Week 10 win against the Oakland Raiders, but head coach Tom Coughlin said he was otherwise fine.

Footballguys view: It's not surprising that he would be sore after the big workload he had in Week 10. The Giants were going to ease him into the lineup, but that was thrown out the window after starting running back Peyton Hillis fumbled.

Giants | Andre Brown factors in big time    Sun Nov 10, 10:10 PM

Updating a previous report, New York Giants RB Andre Brown (leg) was only expected to see limited carries, but instead carried a career-high 28 times for a career-high 106 yards and a touchdown in the Week 10 game against the Oakland Raiders.

Footballguys view: Brown is a fantasy RB2 going forward, although one that has high risk of injury. He should be in your lineup as at least a flex from here on out. If Brown is your RB4 or lower, it might not be a bad idea to try to sell high to upgrade a weakness.

Giants | Andre Brown emerges    Sun Nov 10, 04:12 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Brown rushed 30 times for 115 yards and a touchdown in Week 10.

Footballguys view: So much for being eased in. Brown looked more than capable of carrying the offense against the Raiders. He is an easy sell to use all of your waiver wire money if you have been waiting for a savior at running back. He has never stayed healthy for long in his career, so he might be a good sell high if you don't need him. Next week brings the Packers and Scott Tolzien, so play Brown as a strong RB2.

Giants | Andre Brown ready to go    Sat Nov 9, 09:41 AM

New York Giants RB Andre Brown (leg) is ready to go for the team's Week 10 game. Brown hopes he gets the ball early and often in his season debut. 'I just hope there are no limitations and [they let it] ride,' Brown said. 'I hope not. This is nine weeks of sitting on my ass not doing anything.'

Footballguys view: The Giants have a small package of plays in place for Brown this week. Most expect Peyton Hillis to be the lead back for the team in Week 10. If Brown impresses as they ease him back in then he should see his role grow.

Giants | Andre Brown activated    Thu Nov 7, 04:22 PM

The New York Giants activated RB Andre Brown (leg) from the short-term Injured Reserve Thursday, Nov. 7, and placed DT Shaun Rogers (knee) on the Injured Reserve in a corresponding move.

Footballguys view: Reports say the Giants will ease him in this week, but expect Brown to see increased reps in short order. Peyton Hillis has played well, but Brown's upside is far greater.

Giants | David Wilson likely to IR    Thu Nov 7, 10:55 AM

New York Giants RB David Wilson (neck) is likely headed to Injured Reserve to make room for RB Andre Brown (leg) on the active roster.

Footballguys view: Wilson was already in trouble for his persistent fumbling and subsequent poor play--the injury isn't helping his case to remain with the team. Andre Brown will be eased into the lineup and has a shot at becoming a feature in the backfield.

Giants | Peyton Hillis likely to be big part of Week 10 plans    Wed Nov 6, 11:38 PM

New York Giants RB Peyton Hillis is expected to be a big part of the team's plan for Week 10 against the Oakland Raiders. Hillis is expected to be the primary option, with RBs Andre Brown and Brandon Jacobs sprinkled into the equation. 'I'm pretty sure they are going to switch us in, switch us out,' Brown said Wednesday, Nov. 6.

Footballguys view: Andre Brown is just getting back into playing shape and Brandon Jacobs has run well but is limited in upside--Hillis has performed well in his first two games with the team and given that it sounds like the Giants are easing Brown back in, should have one more week of Flex value.

Giants | David Wilson not cleared yet    Mon Nov 4, 04:24 PM

Updating a previous report, an MRI showed RB David Wilson (neck) significant improvement in his recovery from a neck injury, but he has not been cleared to resume football activities at this point. Wilson will undergo another evaluation in a few weeks.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to watch this situation closely. Wilson could miss several more weeks or miss the rest of the year. Either way in shallow bench leagues it's time to consider different options. The Giants are getting Andre Brown back and are going to have a package of plays for him in Week 10.

Giants | Andre Brown has package of plays for Week 10    Mon Nov 4, 02:39 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Brown (leg) was given a package of plays for the team's Week 10 game. 'The coaches just told me to be ready,' said Brown. 'They threw me some special plays out there. They want to get me back in football shape. They want to kind of ease me into this thing. That's what they plan on doing and we'll go from there.'

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to monitor Brown closely during this week of practice. We like him as a "what the heck" flex with upside against the Raiders in Week 10.

Giants | Andre Brown fully healthy    Tue Oct 29, 07:25 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Brown (leg) is 100 percent healthy and recovered from his fractured left leg, but he said he will wear a protective shin guard 'for the rest of my career.' Head coach Tom Coughlin said he's 'going to have to wait and see' when Brown will return. It's unclear if RBs Peyton Hillis and Brandon Jacobs will have a roster spot when Brown returns.

Footballguys view: The Giants have said they will keep Hillis around as he ran with toughness during his two games with the team so far. We'll see if that actually happens when Brown is back on the active roster. Fantasy owners need to grab Brown on the waiver wire now that he's close to returning.

Giants | Andre Brown expects to play after bye    Mon Oct 28, 04:53 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Brown (leg) said he feels great and expects to play after the team's Week 9 bye.

Footballguys view: We could see Brown step in and start for the Giants. Fantasy owners need to add him now via the waiver wire if you've got the room to stash him on the bench.

Giants | Brandon Jacobs expects to play after bye    Mon Oct 28, 02:25 PM

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) said he injured hamstring is feeling good and expects to play after the team's Week 9 bye. He said he could have played Week 8 but wanted to be cautious.

Footballguys view: The return of Jacobs will negatively impact the amount of touches for Peyton Hillis. They're both low end flex plays with upside in TD premium leagues.

Giants | David Wilson ruled out    Thu Oct 24, 03:28 PM

New York Giants RB David Wilson (neck) has been ruled out for Week 8.

Giants | Andre Brown expects to limited role at first    Thu Oct 17, 09:31 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Brown (leg) said he expects to receive a situational role when he initially comes off the Injured Reserve/Designated to Return list. 'Whatever I can do. I'll have probably a different role when I get back,' Brown said. 'Third down and stuff like that. It's just going to be a different role. As long as I can mold into whatever role they put me in, I'll be OK.'

Footballguys view: At this point there is no reason to rush Brown back and potentially aggravate the injury. But given the state of the backfield, he'll have a large chunk of work if he is healthy. He could be someone who puts together a nice run to help you make and win in your fantasy playoffs.

Giants | Andre Brown on the practice field    Thu Oct 17, 12:26 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Brown (leg) is practicing with running backs Thursday, Oct. 17.

Giants | Andre Brown expects to practice next week    Sat Oct 12, 11:40 AM

New York Giants RB Andre Brown (leg) said he hopes to practice when he is eligible to next week. Brown will not be able to play until Week 10 but appears to be on track to play in that game. Brown started the season on the Injured Reserve/Designated to Return list.

Footballguys view: Brown is eligible to return when the Giants come out of their Week 10 bye. With David Wilson and Da'Rel Scott banged up the only healthy backs the team has are Brandon Jacobs and Michael Cox at this time. Brown is worth adding if you play in a deeper league and have room on the bench to wait for him to get healthy.

New York Giants RB Andre Brown (leg) said he's a few days ahead of schedule in his rehab from a broken leg. He's out of the walking boot but can't return until at least Nov. 10.

Footballguys view: Good news for the Giants here. They certainly need something or someone to jump start their ground game. Until Brown returns we'll see more from David Wilson. Fantasy owners should throw out a buy low offer for Wilson. He's looked better on film than the box score shows. Wilson could be utilized more going forward so long as he takes care of the football.

Giants | More on Andre Brown    Tue Sep 3, 04:39 PM

Updating a previous report, New York Giants RB Andre Brown (leg) has not been placed on short-term Injured Reserve at this point.
