Saints | Brian Brohm to work out    Tue Mar 6, 04:25 AM

Free-agent QB Brian Brohm (Bills) will work out for the New Orleans Saints Tuesday, March 6.

Footballguys view: Brohm is going to be throwing passes in an effort to get back into the league. He was originally drafted by the Packers well ahead of Matt Flynn. Brohm has not looked good since head coach Bobby Petrino left Louisville.

Bills | Not expected to bring Brian Brohm back    Mon May 2, 01:13 PM

Allen Wilson, from the Buffalo News, reports the Buffalo Bills are not expected to re-sign free-agent QB Brian Brohm this offseason.

Footballguys view: Brohm was once highly thought of as a potential franchise quarterback. He failed to impress with the team that drafted him, the Packers, and was let go so the team could keep Matt Flynn. If he can't make it with QB guru Chan Gailey then it's unlikely that he'll make an impact anywhere else.

Bills | Brian Brohm picked off three times Week 17    Sun Jan 2, 06:20 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Brian Brohm went 10-for-23 for 106 yards and three interceptions against the New York Jets in Week 17, according to the Associated Press.

Footballguys view: Anyone holding out hope that Brohm had any kind of future in the NFL can give up.

Bills | Considered putting in Brian Brohm    Mon Oct 4, 03:47 PM

Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said he considered putting QB Brian Brohm in the second half of the team's Week 4 game because the score was lopsided and wanted to get Brohm some game action, reports Chris Brown, of BuffaloBills.com.

Footballguys view: It wouldn't surprise us to see Brian Brohm at some point during the year. Buffalo will likely be selecting a QB in the first-round of the 2011 NFL Draft unless Brohm can prove that he's worth a look as the QB of the future. Coming out of Louisville there were some in the scouting community who compared Brohm to Peyton Manning because of his football intelligence. Chan Gailey knows how to make the most out of a quarterback, and perhaps he can get Brohm's career on the right track.

The Buffalo Bills re-signed QB Levi Brown to an undisclosed deal Tuesday, Sept. 28, according to The Associated Press. Brown will be the third-string quarterback behind QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brian Brohm.

Footballguys view: Brown is a developmental quarterback with limited upside. He'll hold a clipboard for the Bills behind Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brian Brohm.

Bills | Brian Brohm does not play in preseason opener    Sat Aug 14, 11:17 AM

Buffalo Bills QB Brian Brohm did not see action in the team's preseason opener, according to Allen Wilson, of The Buffalo News. QB Trent Edwards started the game, followed by QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick and Levi Brown. Nothing should be read into the move with respect to the quarterback competition. Brohm is still very much in the running for the starting job, head coach Chan Gailey said, and he will be in the rotation in the team's next preseason game.

During a short practice Wednesday, Aug. 11, Fitzpatrick was the only other quarterback besides Edwards to take snaps. QB Brian Brohm could serve as the No. 2 quarterback in the team's second preseason game.

Bills | Trent Edwards opens camp as starter    Thu Jul 29, 07:45 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Trent Edwards opened the team's training camp as their starting quarterback, reports NationalFootballPost.com's Aaron Wilson. QB Ryan Fitzpatrick opened camp as the No. 2 quarterback and QB Brian Brohm was the No. 3 quarterback. Head coach Chan Gailey said the competition for the starting job is just getting started, but he did explain why Edwards got the first shot at the job. Gailey said, "Well he just made a lot more plays that we thought were positive plays during the course of the minicamps and OTAs. He did a good job of handling the team. He did a good job when he had the threes, as well as when he had the ones. And that was impressive to me, to be able to go out there and work with whoever he was throwing with."

Footballguys view: Edwards hold on the job is tenuous, and if another QB opens the season as the starter, their hold will also be shaky. Edwards is only viable as a desperation play in start 2 QB or very deep leagues.

Bills | Quarterback battle about to begin    Thu Jul 29, 12:58 AM

Buffalo Bills QBs Brian Brohm, Trent Edwards and Ryan Fitzpatrick will learn what their pecking order during training camp will be when they report for meetings Thursday, July 29, reports Chris Brown, of BuffaloBills.com. Head coach Chan Gailey has said whatever the pecking order is, it is not set in concrete and subject to change moving forward.

Footballguys view: Chan Gailey knows how to work towards a quarterback's strength, but we don't see much fantasy value in any of the guys in Buffalo.

Bills | QB situation as muddled as ever    Sat Jul 17, 11:01 AM

Pete Prisco, from CBSSports.com, reports the Buffalo Bills have been looking for a franchise quarterback ever since Hall of Famer Jim Kelly retired. As they enter training camp head coach Chan Gailey has declared an open competition for the spot between Trent Edwards, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Brian Brohm.

Footballguys view: Edwards could easily win the starting job by the end of training camp, but has struggled with injuries and inconsistencies throughout his entire career. Fitzpatrick is the smartest player on the roster (Harvard grad), but he doesn't have a great overall skill set. Brohm may have the highest upside out of the group, but hasn't looked the same since his junior season under Bobby Petrino at Louisville. Bottom line - look elsewhere for your fantasy backup QB.

Bills | Brian Brohm believes he is ready to start    Tue Jul 6, 04:39 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Brian Brohm said he believes he is ready to be the starting quarterback for the Bills, according to Michael Grant, of the Louisville Courier-Journal. 'I feel like I can fully compete for this starting job. I feel like I'm ready to take charge out there. We'll see what happens. But I feel like I'm at a position where I'll be able to put my best foot forward and make a legitimate run at the starting job,' Brohm said.

Footballguys view: When he came out of Louisville there were some in the scouting community that compared his skill set to Peyton Manning's. Things didn't work out for Brohm in Green Bay, and he moved on to Buffalo after his release last year. Brohm hasn't looked the same since his junior year under Bobby Petrino, but could jump start his career with head coach Chan Gailey calling the shots. Gailey knows how to get the most out of his quarterbacks (see Kordell Stewart, Tyler Thigpen) and we feel Brohm could have the highest upside out of any of the Bills QBs.

Bills | Gailey tips cap towards Brohm    Sat Jun 26, 04:56 PM

CBSSports.com reports Bills head coach Chan Gailey gave some parting words about his team's quarterback competition for the offseason by saying it's close. Gailey said he knows the pecking order of the three passers in his mind, but isn't saying what it is because "[I]t's still open. Don't read too much into who takes the first snap, who takes the second snap and who takes the third snap. Don't read too much into that. It's close."

Footballguys view: Throughout the history of the NFL several quarterbacks (Jim Plunkett, Rich Gannon, etc) have disappointed early in their career only to bounce back and become very productive in the league. Brian Brohm has the highest upside out of any of the Buffalo QBs, but he's never played up to his potential. It's not crazy to think that he might finally start to deliver now that he's being mentored by Chan Gailey - a coach who is known to get the most out of his quarterbacks (see Kordell Stewart, Tyler Thigpen).

Bills | Brian Brohm first in QB rotation Thursday morning    Thu Jun 24, 02:38 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Brian Brohm was the first quarterback during seven-on-seven drills as well as 11-on-11 drills during morning practice Thursday, June 24, reports Chris Brown, of BuffaloBills.com.

Footballguys view: Brohm may have the highest upside out of any of the Buffalo QBs, but he's failed to live up to his potential so far during his pro career. He looked like the best QB in college football his junior year at Louisville with coach Bobby Petrino. His coach moved on to the NFL and Brohm had a rough senior season. The Packers decided to take a chance on him in the second-round of the 2008 NFL Draft but he was beat out by sixth-rounder Matt Flynn and was released in 2009. He's a cerebral quarterback who may get on track under Chan Gailey if he can find his confidence once again.

Bills | Brian Brohm first in QB rotation Saturday morning    Sat Jun 5, 04:18 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Brian Brohm received the first reps in seven-on-seven drills as well as 11-on-11 drills during morning practice Saturday, June 5, reports Mark Gaughan, of The Buffalo News. He was followed by QB Trent Edwards, QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and QB Levi Brown.

Footballguys view: More quarterback rotation for the Bills, and it's no surprise Brohm is getting a shot to run the first team. Trent Edwards has the most experience out of this group, but he has a tendency to get injured quite a bit. Ryan Fitzpatrick is the smartest quarterback on the roster, but he's limited talent wise. Brian Brohm was highly thought of after his junior year in college at Louisville with head coach Bobby Petrino. He's failed to live up to that potential in the pros, but might have the highest upside of any of the quarterbacks on the Bills roster. This quarterback competition should extend through the end of training camp.

Bills | Green says QB Edwards 'wants to lead'    Tue Jun 1, 06:55 PM

Chris Brown, from BuffaloBills.com, reports right tackle Cornell Green, the free agent signee from Oakland made unsolicited mention of Trent Edwards' leadership through the course of the offseason conditioning program up until now. "Trent is ready man, Trent is ready to go," said Green after Tuesday's practice. "He's talking to us every day. We're amongst him every day. We're just trying to jell right now." When asked to expand on what kind of leadership he's seen from Edwards, Green referenced how Edwards is carrying himself as well as interacting with teammates. "Just his confidence man," said Green. "He's confident with what he wants to do. He wants to lead a team. He's had some years in the league and he just wants to be able to get this team past that point of just being a good team and getting to the playoffs. He works with us every day. We eat breakfast together. We're chatting with him so I'm looking forward to working with him."

Footballguys view: Because of his experience Edwards has to be considered the front runner in the battle to win the starting QB job in Buffalo. However, he's been hampered by injuries and inconsistencies throughout his career. He will continue to compete in training camp with Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brian Brohm.

Bills | Brian Brohm to take part in minicamp    Thu May 6, 01:52 PM

Chris Brown, of BuffaloBills.com, reports Buffalo Bills QB Brian Brohm will participate in the team's rookie minicamp this week. Brohm said he believes he will have an advantage over the other quarterbacks because he will have the extra time working in the new offense.

Footballguys view: Brian Brohm was considered by some in the scouting community to have Peyton Manning like football intelligence when he came out of college. The Packers selected him in the second-round of the 2008 NFL Draft with the idea that he would one day push for the starting job. That never came to fruition as Green Bay decided to go with Matt Flynn as their second-string quarteback, and sent Brohm packing. Now with Chan Gailey, Brohm could finally regain his confidence and be the kind of productive quarterback he was under Bobby Petrino at Louisville.

Bills | New regime sees QB Edwards as 'salvageable'    Tue Apr 27, 10:50 AM

Michael Blunda, from ProFootballWeekly.com, reports when QB Trent Edwards was banished to the bench last season in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick, the general belief was that his days in Buffalo were numbered. After all, he appeared to lose his confidence and struggled mightily during the early part of the season before suffering a concussion. The way we hear it, though, the Bills' new regime plans to keep Edwards around, seeing him as a "salvageable" player. According to the 26-year-old passer, one of the reasons he took a step back in 2009 was because he was receiving mixed messages, with as many as three people in his ear at times all giving out different instructions and advice. Now that man in charge of the offense is well defined -- head coach Chan Gailey will be calling plays -- Edwards just has to worry about listening to one person.

Footballguys view: The Bills stayed away from quarterbacks like Tim Tebow, Colt McCoy, and Jimmy Clausen. Instead they chose a developmental QB - Levi Brown (Troy) - in the seventh-round of the 2010 NFL Draft. Brown is years away from contributing, so that means the Bills are ready for Trent Edwards to lead the way. If Brian Brohm can play up to his potential then perhaps the QB competition in Buffalo will be more heated in training camp.

Bills | Moving forward with existing quarterbacks    Mon Apr 26, 02:36 AM

The Buffalo Bills plan to move forward with QBs Trent Edwards, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Brian Brohm and rookie Levi Brown, reports Sal Maiorana, of The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. 'We're set with where we are,' general manager Buddy Nix said. 'Our goal is for a top guy to come out of this pack. We're going to make this thing work.'

Footballguys view: And that is why they will be back in the top 10 of the draft again next year.

Bills | Open to Brohm winning the QB job    Sun Apr 11, 09:04 PM

Chris Mortensen, from ESPN, reports via his Twitter feed that the Bills are open to QB Brian Brohm winning the starting job.

Footballguys view: Brohm hasn't looked the same since his junior season with Bobby Petrino at Louisville. He was a second-round pick for the Packers but couldn't beat out Matt Flynn for the backup job behind Aaron Rodgers. Now he has a chance to redeem himself with Buffalo. There were some in the scouting community that rated him as the #1 QB in his draft class and compared his game to Colts QB Peyton Manning. Brohm certainly hasn't lived up to his potential, but if he regains his confidence he could flourish under head coach Chan Gailey.

Bills | To have three-way competition at quarterback    Tue Mar 23, 10:41 AM

Adam Schefter, of ESPN, reports via Twitter that Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said there will be an open competition for the team's quarterback job between QBs Trent Edwards, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brian Brohm.

Footballguys view: The Bills still could take a quarterback like Colt McCoy (Texas), Tim Tebow (Florida), or Dan LeFevour (Central Michigan) in the secondd-round of the 2010 NFL Draft. However, at this time it looks like a three-headed race between these veterans with different levels of experience. Edwards has had trouble staying healthy, Fitzpatrick is a smart player who is limited by his lack of physical ability, and Brohm is an interesting option. Once thought of a "Peyton Manning-like" because of the way he ran the Louisville offense under Bobby Petrino, Brohm hasn't looked the same since his junior season. The Packers made him a second-round pick, but decided to give up on him last year after he was beat out for the backup job by Matt Flynn. If he can regain his confidence (working with Gailey may do that) then we could see Brohm win this starting job.

Mark Gaughan, of the Buffalo News, reports Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said Tuesday, March 16, there is not a leading candidate for the team's starting quarterback job at the moment.

Footballguys view: Gailey also did not deny the Bills would add another big name quarterback to the roster through the draft. Early indications are that all three quarterbacks on the team - Trent Edwards, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brian Brohm - essentially are on equal ground.

The Associated Press reports Buffalo Bills QB Brian Brohm went 17-for-29 for 146 yards and two interceptions in his NFL debut in Week 16.

CBSSports.com reports Buffalo Bills QB Brian Brohm could start the team's Week 16 game. Brohm was throwing to the team's top receivers at practice Wednesday, Dec. 23.

Footballguys view: Brohm drew comparisons to Peyton Manning when he came out of college because of his football intelligence and head for the game. His pro career hasn't gone as planned after the Packers selected him in the 2nd round of the 2008 NFL Draft. Now he gets a chance to get his career back on track in Buffalo.

Bills | Brohm could see playing time Week 16    Mon Dec 21, 06:25 PM

The Associated Press reports Buffalo Bills QB Brian Brohm may play in Week 16 if QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (ankle) and QB Trent Edwards (ankle) are not able to play.

Footballguys view: Brian Brohm may finally see the field in the NFL, and he could get his career back on track if he impresses. Brohm was a star quarterback at Louisville under head coach Bobby Petrino who saw his draft stock fall after a poor senior year (his only year without Petrino). The Packers thought enough of his skill set to select him in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft. With the emergence of Matt Flynn Green Bay decided to cut Brohm and re-sign him to the practice squad. The Bills picked him up and signed him to their active roster only a month ago.

Greg A. Bedard and Tom Silverstein, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, report the Green Bay Packers tried to sign practice squad QB Brian Brohm to their active roster, but Brohm decided to take an offer from the Buffalo Bills because he would have a better opportunity to see playing time with the Bills.

Footballguys view: Brohm was beaten out by Matt Flynn for the backup job to Aaron Rodgers, but now gets a fresh start in Buffalo. With the way that Trent Edwards and Ryan Fitzpatrick have been playing Brohm could see some playing time this year.

Greg A. Bedard and Tom Silverstein, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, report the Buffalo Bills have signed QB Brian Brohm off the Green Bay Packers' practice squad, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: The Bills need help at the quarterback position, and there's an outside chance that Brohm could develop into a solid player. He hasn't looked the same since his junior year at Louisville, but he's a smart quarterback that can spread the ball around.

Footballguys view: When word that Lumpkin was released leaked out to the internet, many felt that it meant Tyrell Sutton had won a roster spot. Both Lumpkin and Sutton have NFL game, but Lumpkin has struggled to stay healthy, and Sutton wasn't able to edge out Brandon Jackson or DeShawn Wynn for a backup job behind Ryan Grant.

Packers | Brohm throws for 154 yards Thursday    Fri Sep 4, 01:52 AM

The Associated Press reports Green Bay Packers QB Brian Brohm was 20-for-28 for 154 yards during the team's preseason finale Thursday, Sept. 3.

Footballguys view: Brohm needed to improve at the end of the preseason to assure his spot on the Packers 53-man roster. He was good, but not great, so it's yet to be seen if he salvaged his spot in Green Bay. The final decision could come down to the quality of the other QBs that get cut around the league.

Packers | Brohm on the roster bubble?    Thu Sep 3, 11:24 AM

Tom Silverstein, from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, reports that after a solid week of practice, quarterback Brian Brohm needs to follow up with a stellar game. He very much is on the bubble, and if he takes a step backward after struggling all camp, the Packers just may give up on him. He's going to play more than three quarters and needs to get the team in the end zone.

Footballguys view: Matt Flynn's injury has opened the door of opportunity for Brohm. He hasn't looked like the same player since Bobby Petrino left Louisville, but if he regains his confidence, Brohm has the skill set to stick around in the NFL. He might never be the QB of the future that can push Aaron Rodgers for playing time, but if Brohm continues to develop he could be a fine backup in the league.

Pete Dougherty, of The Green Bay Press-Gazette, reports Green Bay Packers QB Brian Brohm is expected to play the rest of the team's final preseason game Thursday, Sept. 3, once QB Aaron Rodgers comes out of the game.

Footballguys view: Brohm has largely been a disappointment since being selected in the second-round of the 2008 NFL Draft. Last season he seemed to be confused on the field, and then he lost his confidence. The backup behind Aaron Rodgers is Matt Flynn, but he'll be sitting out the game due to a shoulder injury, and Brohm will have a chance to impress.

Tom Silverstein and Bob McGinn, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports Green Bay Packers QB Matt Flynn has a firm lead for the No. 2 quarterback job over QB Brian Brohm.

Footballguys view: Brohm has been a major disappointment so far in his career, but there's still plenty of time for him to reverse his course.

Packers | Gap widens between Flynn and Brohm    Mon Aug 17, 01:53 PM

Bob McGinn, from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, reports that on Saturday night, Matt Flynn appeared to widen his grip on the No. 2 job with a sharp showing in the second quarter against Cleveland compared to a mediocre one by Brian Brohm in the second half. "I think we have two young quarterbacks that are ascending and are going to continue to get better," coach Mike McCarthy said. "I thought Matt had some better opportunities presented to him than Brian."

Footballguys view: Both quarterbacks are second-year players, but Brohm was a second-round pick out of Louisville and Flynn was a seventh-round pick out of LSU. The Packers obviously had a different scenario in mind when they drafted this duo, but Flynn showed he was the better QB in training camp last year. Some thought Brohm would give him a better run for his money this season, but that isn't the case so far. Brohm hasn't looked like the same QB since Bobby Petrino left Louisville, and he seems to have lost his confidence. Barring injury, Flynn should be the backup to Aaron Rodgers when the regular season starts.

Packers | Brohm using glove on throwing hand    Sat Aug 8, 02:23 PM

Tom Silverstein, of The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, reports Green Bay Packers backup QB Brian Brohm, the team's No. 3 quarterback, has been wearing a glove on his throwing hand. Brohm said hand perspiration at times makes it hard to hold onto the football, so he is using a glove to help eliminate that. He said he wore one at times in college. He is trying a bunch of different ones trying to find the right one; and Brohm said he isn't sure if he would use the glove in all situations.

Footballguys view: So much for "never let 'em see you sweat." As long as Brohm doesn't wear the Mickey Mouse gloves like David Carr used to in Carolina we're good with this. In all seriousness some quarterbacks just like throwing better with gloves on. Even Kurt Warner wears gloves in every game, and it doesn't hurt the way he throws or handles the ball.
