Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater FA status unclear    Fri Feb 2, 01:47 AM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater could have his contract tolled, which would put him back under contract with the Vikings for 2018 at his salary rate ($1.354 million) from the past season as opposed to entering unrestricted free agency. The issue stems from Bridgewater spending the first six weeks of this past season on the PUP list and whether or not he was medically cleared at any point before those six weeks elapsed. GM Rick Spielman indicated the decision to have the contract tolled would come from the NFL and the NFLPA, and not from the Vikings.

Footballguys view: This could greatly change the complexion of the choice the Vikings have to make between three potential free agent quarterbacks. If Bridgewater is back at pennies on the dollar in this quarterback market, they could afford to sign one of Case Keenum and Sam Bradford to create a competition.

Vikings | Mike Zimmer not sold on Case Keenum?    Tue Jan 23, 03:19 PM

Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent QB Case Keenum's future with the Vikings is in limbo. Head coach Mike Zimmer said the Vikings will go through the process of determining who their starting quarterback will be next season. Keenum and fellow QBs Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Bradford are all in the running.

Footballguys view: Reports before the NFC Championship Game indicated the Vikings were going to franchise tag Keenum and also try to keep Bridgewater around. Now, after losing in that game, things don't seem as certain for Keenum...even Peter King is speculating that Keenum will be the Broncos starter in Week 1 of the 2018 season. Stay tuned, as Keenum would have a strong price tag if available in this quarterback desperate league.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater believes he can start    Mon Jan 22, 12:29 PM

Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent QB Teddy Bridgewater said he views himself as a starting quarterback next season but is not sure if it will be with the Vikings.

Footballguys view: Bridgewater can start, but who knows where it would be. He's a smart and accurate quarterback who had his career thrown off path by a major knee injury. Set to hit the open market, Bridgewater is an interesting option for a team looking to give him a second chance.

Vikings | Mike Zimmer unsure about No. 2 QB    Thu Jan 18, 03:37 PM

Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said he is not sure if QB Sam Bradford or QB Teddy Bridgewater will serve as the backup quarterback in the NFC Championship game. Zimmer said he has considered having three quarterbacks active because of the importance of the game.

Footballguys view: This is going to be a fascinating offseason for the Vikings at quarterback. However if Case Keenum can't get it done this weekend, we don't know the other two likely rusty quarterbacks will either.

Vikings | Minnesota tempted to start Teddy Bridgewater    Wed Nov 15, 02:38 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater was reportedly very close to overtaking Case Keenum for the starting job in large part because the Vikings view Bridgewater as 'their franchise,' according to Fox Sports' Jay Glazer.

Footballguys view: Now that Bridgewater is healthy enough to play, Keenum has to be on a short leash with the Vikings. They've been winning with Keenum, but he's also thrown some interceptions along the way. So long as they keep winning, Bridgewater is likely staying as a reserve but any sort of slip and we could see him at the top of the depth chart.

Vikings | Case Keenum will remain starter    Mon Nov 13, 04:20 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Case Keenum will continue to start despite QB Teddy Bridgewater being available to return.

Footballguys view: Keenum threw four touchdowns on Sunday...but he also threw two interceptions. So long as the Vikings are winning, we don't see them being quick to pull Keenum. In deep leagues that start two QBs (or flex QBs), then hold onto Bridgewater in case he gets his shot.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater better than ever?    Fri Nov 10, 09:44 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is throwing the ball better than he was before his knee injury, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Footballguys view: It would be great if Bridgewater can get back in the starting lineup and thrive with the Vikings. He's back this week, but it will be as a reserve behind Case Keenum. We'd have to see the Vikings struggle with Keenum as the starter before Bridgewater would get that top spot.

Vikings | Minnesota injury report for Friday    Fri Nov 10, 04:25 PM

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater takes part in practice    Thu Nov 9, 05:59 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) fully participated in practice Thursday, Nov. 9.

Footballguys view: Case Keenum will still get the start, and Bridgewater may not even dress for Sunday. But it's a good sign. we still need to see him on the field in an actual game before we start getting excited about him playing, but it will be nice for the Vikings to have their potential future quarterback back under Center.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater full go    Wed Nov 8, 04:42 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) was a full participant in practice Wednesday, Nov. 8.

Footballguys view: We hope to see Bridgewater back on the field for the Vikings, but he's now returning as a backup. Case Keenum has been playing well and the Vikings are winning. If either one of those things change, Bridgewater could make it back into the lineup as a starter.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater activated    Wed Nov 8, 11:30 AM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list Wednesday, Nov. 8.

Footballguys view: Bridgewater is back in action, but he's only just a backup behind Case Keenum at this time. If Keenum struggles, then we should see Bridgewater inserted as the starter. QB Sam Bradford (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list with Bridgewater activated.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater to be activated soon    Tue Nov 7, 12:30 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is expected to join the 53-man roster soon, according to team sources.

Footballguys view: Bridgewater should be activated soon, and to make room for him the team may put Sam Bradford on Injured Reserve. He'll backup Case Keenum so long as Keenum is winning. Bridgewater could get back into the starting lineup if Keenum begins to struggle.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater to be activated    Mon Nov 6, 11:03 AM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is expected to be activated to the 53-man roster by Wednesday, Nov. 8. He could be the backup in Week 10.

Footballguys view: Bridgewater is likely to be brought along slowly, especially if Case Keenum keeps the team on the winning track. Fantasy owners in deep start-2 QB leagues should add Bridgewater and stash him on the bench in case he eventually takes over.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater appears close to returning    Sun Oct 29, 10:32 AM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) could resume playing as soon as Week 10 versus the Washington Redskins, according to a source informed of the situation. It is believed that he could be activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list after the team's Week 9 bye and could compete with QB Case Keenum for the starting job.

Footballguys view: Keenum hasn't done anything to convince the team to leave him in when Bridgewater is ready to play. Bridgewater shouldn't be on the waiver wire in 2QB and Superflex leagues.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater likely to miss London game    Tue Oct 24, 10:37 AM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) will likely be left off the active roster for the team's London game in Week 8. The team is concerned that the field will be slippery and could expose Bridgewater to further injury.

Footballguys view: The earliest we could see Bridgewater is Week 10 against Washington as the Vikings have a bye in Week 9. Fantasy owners in start 2-QB leagues should stash Bridgewater if he's out there. It's no guarantee that Bridgewater will start for the team, but they might consider him a better option than Case Keenum.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater could practice    Mon Oct 16, 11:10 AM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) could practice Wednesday, Oct. 18, after his follow-up with doctors Monday, Oct. 16.

Footballguys view: Bridgewater has been cleared to return to practice, and the team is likely to activate him off the PUP list in the next two weeks. Once that is done, they'll have a three-week window to determine whether or not to activate him or put him back on the PUP. It wouldn't be a surprise at this point to see Bridgewater back under center as the Vikings starter later in the year.

Vikings | Decision on Teddy Bridgewater next week    Tue Oct 10, 04:37 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) will be re-evaluated Monday, Oct. 16, after which the Vikings will decide whether or not to activate him from the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Footballguys view: With Sam Bradford clearly not all the way back having Bridgewater back could help the Vikings immensely. That said, financially the Vikings could save a year on Bridgewater's contract if they shut him down. The reality is if they win this weekend, they may throw Bridgewater in there in the hopes he can give them the surge they need to make the playoffs.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater ready by Week 7?    Mon Sep 25, 12:08 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) will be ready to play when he's eligible to come off the Physically Unable to Perform list, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Footballguys view: In super deep leagues it's not crazy to put Bridgewater on your radar. The team won't rush him back if/when he is ready to resume playing, but that all depends on the health of Sam Bradford. He's already missed a couple of games with a knee injury and Case Keenum has started with mixed results (great game in Week 3).

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater staying on PUP    Fri Sep 1, 11:37 AM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) will remain on the Physically Unable to Perform list and miss the first six games. He hasn't been ruled out for the 2017 season.

Footballguys view: Case Keenum has been decent in the preseason, good enough for the team to not rush Bridgewater back. Bridgewater's fifth-year option wasn't picked up, so getting back on the active roster would go a long way towards increasing his market.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater making progress    Tue Aug 29, 07:50 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) has 'progressed a lot' in his recovery from a severe knee injury last offseason, according to head coach Mike Zimmer.

Footballguys view: Bridgewater could return this year for the Vikings, but it would be as a backup behind Sam Bradford. Zimmer added that Bridgewater must protect himself and show that he is able to make the necessary movements in order to succeed as a quarterback before returning to practice. Bridgewater's future is up in the air as he's set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2018.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater could return in 2017    Sat Aug 26, 11:42 AM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) may be able to 'get back this year,' according to head coach Mike Zimmer.

Footballguys view: Bridgewater could return, but it will likely be a backup role to Sam Bradford. The team didn't pick up his fifth-year option earlier this year, so the 2014 first-round pick is set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2018.

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Wednesday, July 26.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater may start season on PUP list    Fri Jul 21, 07:06 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) likely will start the regular season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Ben Goessling.

Footballguys view: We've been saying this for weeks. Not only do they want to be super cautious with the future of their franchise, there's a monetary aspect to this. They are unlikely to keep Sam Bradford around due to the massive cap hit he represents next year, and if Bridgewater does not play this season they can preserve the fifth year of his contract. That gives them another year at a cheap price and more time to build up the offense of line and the rest of the offense to help Bridgewater out.

Vikings | No brace for Teddy Bridgewater    Thu Jul 13, 02:17 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) has been working out without a brace on his surgically repaired knee. The extent of Bridgewater's workout regimen and timetable has not been fully disclosed, however, and he could begin training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Footballguys view: This is great sign, but we're still wondering how hard the team will push him to start. They have Sam Bradford, who should improve after an entire offseason of work with the team after doing well in 2016 considering he parachuted in at the last minute. This is all worth watching, but don't be shocked if Bradford starts the season under center or if Bridgewater doesn't see the field this season.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater could be cleared this year    Mon Jun 19, 11:13 AM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) could receive clearance to return at some point this season, in the opinion of beat writer Matt Vensel. Bridgewater has surfaced in videos throwing 40-yard passes.

Footballguys view: That's cool, and we're rooting for Bridgewater to get back onto the field someday. However, he may not be ready for the start of the regular season and when he comes back it should only be as a the backup to Sam Bradford. With no fifth-year option picked up, it will be interesting to see where Bridgewater is playing in 2018.

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater is looking better throwing the ball, according to head coach Mike Zimmer, and WR Laquon Treadwell said he has been impressed with the timing of Bridgewater's throws.

Footballguys view: Reports indicate that Bridgewater has a chip on his shoulder and wants to prove that he can come back from the horrific leg injury he suffered last year. Sam Bradford is the team's starter, but it looks like Bridgewater could be available in 2017 as his backup.

Vikings | Teddy Brigdewater timetable remains unknown    Thu Jun 8, 02:18 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater's (knee) return is still unknown at this point due to the severity of his injuries, according to general manager Rick Spielman.

Footballguys view: We still think there is a huge chance that Bridgewater starts off on the PUP list and is preserved as long as possible to keep the team from having to use his fifth year option. Then they can keep him cheap next season when he is a year plus beyond his injury and the team has been improved around him. Consider also that it's unlikely the Vikings will want to pay the $17 million owed Sam Bradford in 2018.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater throwing    Thu Jun 1, 10:37 AM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) threw a few uncontested passes in positional drills Wednesday, May 31.

Footballguys view: It will be interesting to see how this plays out. The Vikings could retain Bridgewater without using his fifth year option if he starts the season on the PUP list. Sam Bradford is expensive in 2017 - $17 million expensive - and the Vikings might want to be extra careful with Bridgewater until then. The current uncertainty does make it a bit tough to place value on the receivers though.

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) recently had a positive meeting with his doctors and has received clearance to progress in his rehab and start moving from side-to-side.

Footballguys view: Bridgewater was dropping back and throwing in drills this week for the Vikings. It seems like he's making good progress as he comes back from the horrific knee injury that eliminated his entire 2016 season. Even in a best case scenario, Bridgewater is likely to only be a reserve behind Sam Bradford.

Vikings | Coach optimistic about Teddy Bridgewater    Fri May 5, 06:06 PM

Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said he is more optimistic than in the past that QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) will be able to return eventually. Bridgewater has been rehabbing at the team's facilities this offseason.

Footballguys view: We're glad Zimmer is optimistic, but it's hard to be there with him at this point. There's a chance that Bridgewater never takes another snap in a game for the Vikings. His availability for this year is a huge question mark, and Bridgewater is set to be a free agent in 2018.

Footballguys view: Bridgewater is one his way back from the horrific knee injury suffered last year, but there's no guarantee that he even gets on the field in 2017. A free agent in 2018, Bridgewater's future in the NFL is very much up in the air.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater's option will be declined    Mon May 1, 03:47 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater's fifth-year option will not be picked up, according to a source.

Footballguys view: We're not surprised by this decision. Bridgewater is expected to begin the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list and will be reevaluated in October. His horrific leg injury suffered last year may prevent him from ever playing up to his potential as a pro. The Vikings QB situation past 2017 is up in the air as Sam Bradford (like Bridgewater now) is in the final year of his contract.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater's option likely passed on    Wed Apr 26, 09:43 AM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is unlikely to have his fifth-year option exercised by the May 2 deadline, according to sources. The Vikings could still re-sign Bridgewater, but they do not appear willing to guarantee his 2018 salary for north of $11 million for injury when the quarterback is still trying to make it back from a catastrophic knee injury that has derailed other NFL players' careers.

Footballguys view: This is another strong sign that we won't see Bridgewater on the field this year. His career isn't over, but there's no guarantee he'll play another down in the NFL either.

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) remains without a timetable as he continues to recover from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and dislocated knee. General manager Rick Spielman did say that Bridgewater had a great first week of offseason activities.

Footballguys view: There's a chance that Bridgewater doesn't play in 2017. He just started running in a pool about a month ago, and Bridgewater still has a long way to go. Sam Bradford is the team's starter this year, and Bridgewater's future is a huge unknown.

Sam Bradford is a free agent in 2018, and Bridgewater could be as well if the team doesn't pick up his fifth-year option. Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) still has no timetable for his return, according to general manager Rick Spielman. Spielman added that it would be 'unfair' to give Bridgewater an ultimatum after suffering multiple serious injuries. Bridgewater is recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a dislocated knee.

Footballguys view: The Vikings pretty much signaled this a while back when they talked about Sam Bradford 'earning' starting job. We still love Bridgewater, but this injury is a huge setback to his development and could have a long-term impact for his ability to be a starter in the NFL.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater likely to miss 2017 season    Fri Jan 27, 01:15 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is expected to miss the entire 2017 season to continue his comeback from the torn ACL and dislocated knee he suffered during training camp last summer, according to a team source, which suggested the 'shortest recovery' time for a player with Bridgewater's injuries is 19 months.

Footballguys view: Good thing Sam Bradford is signed through 2017. Bridgewater's injury was severe, and it's going to take quite a bit of time for him to properly heal. We hope that one day he can be at full strength and develop on the potential he showed as a first-round pick in 2014. If he's back in 2018, the Vikings would have to exercise his fifth-year option for that season to insure he's under contract.
