Jets | Teddy Bridgewater could be Week 1 starter    Thu May 24, 03:15 PM

New York Jets QB Teddy Bridgewater will be considered for the starting quarterback job Week 1 if he plays well during the preseason and QB Sam Darnold shows he is not ready to play, according to sources. QB Josh McCown likely would be the starter if Bridgewater and Darnold struggle during the preseason.

Footballguys view: Neither outcome is shocking to anyone who has paid attention to the Jets this offseason. We are a little excited to see what Bridgewater is capable of after such a long layoff, but the lack of good and reliable weapons around him limit his upside. McCown would be the same middling quarterback he's always been and not really worth rostering.

Jets | Teddy Bridgewater suits up    Tue May 22, 11:17 AM

New York Jets QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is participating in organized team activities Tuesday, May 22.

Footballguys view: Good news for Bridgewater, but he's still recovering from his knee injury and should be limited in any practice participation. He signed a one-year deal with the Jets and is just trying to put some preseason tape out there to show other teams he can get back to his starter-level of play. Josh McCown may begin the year for the Jets as the starter, but it's clear rookie Sam Darnold is the QB of the future.

Jets | Teddy Bridgewater expected to be limited    Mon May 21, 12:39 PM

New York Jets QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) likely will be limited during organized team activities, but he is further along in his recovery than most people believe, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Jets will be cautious with Bridgewater as he continues to recover from his knee injury. Signed to a one-year deal earlier this offseason, Bridgewater is no long-term solution for the Jets (that's rookie Sam Darnold). He's just trying to get healthy and show he can still play in the pros. The team is hoping that Bridgewater will be a full participant when training camp starts.

Jets | Teddy Bridgewater expected on field soon    Sat May 5, 03:26 PM

New York Jets QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is expected to be on the field for offseason workouts in a few weeks, according head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: Good news for Bridgewater as he's trying to impress his new team. Bridgewater is only on a one-year deal, and the Jets selected QB Sam Darnold with the no.3 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft. The writing is on the wall that he's no long-term answer for the Jets. However, Bridgewater could be dealt to another team in need of a starting-caliber QB...or he could just hit the open market ready to prove himself in 2019.

Jets | Teddy Bridgewater throwing    Tue May 1, 06:30 PM

New York Jets QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is healthy and was throwing during phase 2 of the Jets' offseason program Tuesday, May 1, according to general manager Mike Maccagnan.

Footballguys view: Bridgewater signed a one-year deal with the Jets, and with the selection of Sam Darnold in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft we know Bridgewater is no long-term solution in New York. Perhaps there will be an injury in training camp, giving the opportunity for Bridgewater to be traded somewhere he can play. Josh McCown should begin the season and if/when he gets hurt we should see Darnold as the Jets starter as he is their QB of the future.

Jets | Teddy Bridgewater may not make team    Tue Apr 24, 05:12 PM

New York Jets QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is not a lock to make the Jets' final roster if he doesn't show he can stay healthy, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

Footballguys view: Bridgewater only signed a one-year deal with the Jets. The former first-round pick is no lock for the final roster with the Jets, especially since they're likely to select a franchise quarterback with the No.3 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft.

Jets | Teddy Bridgewater should throw this spring    Mon Apr 16, 07:34 AM

New York Jets coach Todd Bowles believes QB Teddy Bridgewater should throw at some point this spring, but it is hard to tell how much he will take part in offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: The Jets have no need to push Bridgewater as he continues to recover from his knee injury. He signed a one-year, $5 million contract with the Jets earlier this offseason and Bridgewater should be in the mix as a reserve quarterback. Josh McCown is set to start but we should see the Jets select a quarterback (Baker Mayfield?) at no.3 overall.

Jets | No offseason workouts for Teddy Bridgewater?    Tue Mar 27, 12:26 AM

Updating a previous report, New York Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan cast some doubt over QB Teddy Bridgewater's (knee) readiness to participate in offseason workouts, saying 'we'll see how he progresses.' He added, 'There's things we're doing with him to set him up for success. If all things go well, you guys will have a chance to see him out there to throw this spring.'

Footballguys view: The Jets have Josh McCown as their starter to begin the season, so there's no rush for Bridgewater. Signed to a one-year deal, Bridgewater may not be in their plans past this season. Expect the Jets to select a QB with the no.3 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft.

Jets | Teddy Bridgewater should practice    Mon Mar 26, 03:13 PM

New York Jets QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is expected to be able to participate in practice this spring, according to general manager Mike Maccagnan.

Footballguys view: Good news for Bridgewater. He's set to be a backup behind Josh McCown but he could get a chance to start...unless the Jets take a rookie QB with the no3 overall pick. That's likely to happen, so Bridgewater is just going to take any sort of shot he can get.

Jets | Teddy Bridgewater unsure about workouts    Wed Mar 21, 05:33 PM

New York Jets QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) will not say if he will be healthy enough to participate in offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: Bridgewater has a one-year deal with the Jets. He's going to be competing for a spot on the depth chart and may begin the season as a reserve behind Josh McCown.

Jets | Teddy Bridgewater contract update    Mon Mar 19, 02:04 PM

Updating previous reports, New York Jets QB Teddy Bridgewater is scheduled to receive a $5 million base salary in 2018 with a $500,000 signing bonus and a $500,000 workout bonus. He can make an additional $9 million in incentives.

Footballguys view: Bridgewater is getting a fresh start with the Jets...but he's set to be the backup to Josh McCown at this time. Add in a rookie QB with the no3 overall pick, and Bridgewater all of a sudden doesn't look like more than a flier for the Jets. If healthy, Bridgewater is smart, accurate and more than capable as a starter.

Jets | NY Jets officially sign Teddy Bridgewater    Sun Mar 18, 03:27 PM

Updating a previous report, the New York Jets signed free-agent QB Teddy Bridgewater (Vikings) on Sunday, March 18.

Footballguys view: Bridgewater still has first-round tools and is smart and accurate as a passer. If he can stay healthy after a devastating knee injury almost two years ago, the Jets could have a value play here as a reclamation project. Bridgewater should serve as a backup to Josh McCown in 2018. Terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed, but it was reported earlier Bridgewater agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth $15 million.

Jets | Teddy Bridgewater passes physical    Sun Mar 18, 12:14 PM

The New York Jets have yet to formally sign free-agent QB Teddy Bridgewater (Vikings), but a league source recently confirmed he passed his physical and they will officially announce the signing soon.

Footballguys view: Jets fans who love the idea of Bridgewater getting his career back on track in New York can breathe a sigh of relief here. There was some concern his surgically repaired knee may be holding up the deal. Bridgewater will begin as a backup to Josh McCown in 2018. We expect the Jets, now up at no3 overall, to select a QB in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft as well.

Jets | Teddy Bridgewater set to join NY Jets    Tue Mar 13, 08:14 PM

New York Jets impending free-agent QB Teddy Bridgewater has agreed to terms on an undisclosed one-year contract with the New York Jets, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Footballguys view: Bridgewater has basically missed two years after a devastating knee injury. The Jets re-signed Josh McCown to be their starter, but there should be a point where Bridgewater sees the field. A former first-round pick, Bridgewater is still smart and accurate. It would be a tremendous redemption story if he's able to play up to his potential.

Jets | Teddy Bridgewater could land with Jets soon    Tue Mar 13, 03:09 PM

Free-agent QB Teddy Bridgewater (Vikings) is working on a deal with the New York Jets, according to a source.

Footballguys view: When the Jets missed out on Kirk Cousins (no surprise there), the team moved attention to Bridgewater. If he's healthy, Bridgewater could be a quality starter. If/when the Jets sign him, Bridgewater will have to back up newly re-signed Josh McCown.

Jets | NYJ turning attention to Teddy Bridgewater?    Tue Mar 13, 12:53 PM

The New York Jets are expected to turn their attention to Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent QB Teddy Bridgewater should they not be able to land Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins, according to sources.

Footballguys view: If healthy, Bridgewater has the potential to be a franchise quarterback. Because of the devastating knee injury he suffered, Bridgewater should see a much lower price than other QBs.

Jets | Teddy Bridgewater a Plan B option for NYJ?    Mon Mar 5, 10:12 PM

Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent QB Teddy Bridgewater may be the New York Jets' fallback option if Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins opts not to sign with the Jets in free agency, according to SNY's Ralph Vacchiano, who speculates New York would also attempt to bring back Josh McCown to protect themselves against another injury to Bridgewater.

Footballguys view: This makes all the sense in the world for the Jets. If they miss on Kirk Cousins -- or if they just decide the price is too high -- Bridgewater would be a reasonably priced, high upside alternative. They could still draft a quarterback at No. 6 and develop him behind Bridgewater. If both players end up good, they have the nice problem of possessing two quarterbacks who teams might want, which you can turn into trade value.

Jets | Teddy Bridgewater could be option for Jets    Mon Mar 5, 12:05 PM

Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent QB Teddy Bridgewater could receive interest from the New York Jets this offseason if the Jets are not able to sign Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins, according to a source.

Footballguys view: There are a few teams that consider Bridgewater a starting quarterback. If his knee injury is fine, Bridgewater can be a starter in the league and likely a cheaper option than guys like Kirk Cousins or Case Keenum.

Vikings | Some teams see Teddy Bridgewater as starter    Sun Mar 4, 11:22 AM

Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent QB Teddy Bridgewater is receiving interest from some teams that consider him a potential starting quarterback.

Footballguys view: Bridgewater is a starting caliber quarterback...provided his knee injury is okay. He was back this year but backing up Case Keenum. That was until the NFC Championship Game when the Vikings decided to make Sam Bradford the backup and Bridgewater was a healthy scratch.

Vikings | GM expects Teddy Bridgewater to be UFA    Wed Feb 28, 07:32 PM

Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said he expects QB Teddy Bridgewater to be declared an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Footballguys view: Bridgewater may not get more than a 'prove it' deal -- even in this QB desperate league. His major knee injury is a huge concern for any team that's considering his services.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater still in limbo    Tue Feb 27, 12:31 PM

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent QB Teddy Bridgewater's free-agency status has yet to be determined, according to NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy, who added the decision on whether Bridgewater's contract will toll should come 'in the next few weeks.'

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater likely to be set free    Tue Feb 27, 08:14 AM

Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent QB Teddy Bridgewater is expected to become a free agent, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Bridgewater is a bit of an unknown physically after his catastrophic knee injury. He should get a long look from teams that don't sign Kirk Cousins or Case Keenum, and he could still return to Minnesota if he finds that he isn't going to get a long-term commitment and starting job in the market.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater FA status unclear    Fri Feb 2, 01:47 AM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater could have his contract tolled, which would put him back under contract with the Vikings for 2018 at his salary rate ($1.354 million) from the past season as opposed to entering unrestricted free agency. The issue stems from Bridgewater spending the first six weeks of this past season on the PUP list and whether or not he was medically cleared at any point before those six weeks elapsed. GM Rick Spielman indicated the decision to have the contract tolled would come from the NFL and the NFLPA, and not from the Vikings.

Footballguys view: This could greatly change the complexion of the choice the Vikings have to make between three potential free agent quarterbacks. If Bridgewater is back at pennies on the dollar in this quarterback market, they could afford to sign one of Case Keenum and Sam Bradford to create a competition.

Vikings | Mike Zimmer not sold on Case Keenum?    Tue Jan 23, 03:19 PM

Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent QB Case Keenum's future with the Vikings is in limbo. Head coach Mike Zimmer said the Vikings will go through the process of determining who their starting quarterback will be next season. Keenum and fellow QBs Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Bradford are all in the running.

Footballguys view: Reports before the NFC Championship Game indicated the Vikings were going to franchise tag Keenum and also try to keep Bridgewater around. Now, after losing in that game, things don't seem as certain for Keenum...even Peter King is speculating that Keenum will be the Broncos starter in Week 1 of the 2018 season. Stay tuned, as Keenum would have a strong price tag if available in this quarterback desperate league.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater believes he can start    Mon Jan 22, 12:29 PM

Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent QB Teddy Bridgewater said he views himself as a starting quarterback next season but is not sure if it will be with the Vikings.

Footballguys view: Bridgewater can start, but who knows where it would be. He's a smart and accurate quarterback who had his career thrown off path by a major knee injury. Set to hit the open market, Bridgewater is an interesting option for a team looking to give him a second chance.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said he is not sure if QB Sam Bradford or QB Teddy Bridgewater will serve as the backup quarterback in the NFC Championship game. Zimmer said he has considered having three quarterbacks active because of the importance of the game.

Footballguys view: This is going to be a fascinating offseason for the Vikings at quarterback. However if Case Keenum can't get it done this weekend, we don't know the other two likely rusty quarterbacks will either.

Vikings | Minnesota tempted to start Teddy Bridgewater    Wed Nov 15, 02:38 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater was reportedly very close to overtaking Case Keenum for the starting job in large part because the Vikings view Bridgewater as 'their franchise,' according to Fox Sports' Jay Glazer.

Footballguys view: Now that Bridgewater is healthy enough to play, Keenum has to be on a short leash with the Vikings. They've been winning with Keenum, but he's also thrown some interceptions along the way. So long as they keep winning, Bridgewater is likely staying as a reserve but any sort of slip and we could see him at the top of the depth chart.

Vikings | Case Keenum will remain starter    Mon Nov 13, 04:20 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Case Keenum will continue to start despite QB Teddy Bridgewater being available to return.

Footballguys view: Keenum threw four touchdowns on Sunday...but he also threw two interceptions. So long as the Vikings are winning, we don't see them being quick to pull Keenum. In deep leagues that start two QBs (or flex QBs), then hold onto Bridgewater in case he gets his shot.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater better than ever?    Fri Nov 10, 09:44 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is throwing the ball better than he was before his knee injury, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Footballguys view: It would be great if Bridgewater can get back in the starting lineup and thrive with the Vikings. He's back this week, but it will be as a reserve behind Case Keenum. We'd have to see the Vikings struggle with Keenum as the starter before Bridgewater would get that top spot.

Footballguys view: Case Keenum will still get the start, and Bridgewater may not even dress for Sunday. But it's a good sign. we still need to see him on the field in an actual game before we start getting excited about him playing, but it will be nice for the Vikings to have their potential future quarterback back under Center.

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) will likely be left off the active roster for the team's London game in Week 8. The team is concerned that the field will be slippery and could expose Bridgewater to further injury.

Footballguys view: The earliest we could see Bridgewater is Week 10 against Washington as the Vikings have a bye in Week 9. Fantasy owners in start 2-QB leagues should stash Bridgewater if he's out there. It's no guarantee that Bridgewater will start for the team, but they might consider him a better option than Case Keenum.

Once that is done, they'll have a three-week window to determine whether or not to activate him or put him back on the PUP. Footballguys view: With Sam Bradford clearly not all the way back having Bridgewater back could help the Vikings immensely. That said, financially the Vikings could save a year on Bridgewater's contract if they shut him down. The reality is if they win this weekend, they may throw Bridgewater in there in the hopes he can give them the surge they need to make the playoffs.

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) will be ready to play when he's eligible to come off the Physically Unable to Perform list, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Footballguys view: In super deep leagues it's not crazy to put Bridgewater on your radar. The team won't rush him back if/when he is ready to resume playing, but that all depends on the health of Sam Bradford. He's already missed a couple of games with a knee injury and Case Keenum has started with mixed results (great game in Week 3).
