Falcons | Cut 17 players    Fri Sep 2, 04:16 PM

The Atlanta Falcons have released DE Chauncey Davis, DT Trey Lewis and LB Coy Wire. They have waived RB Gartrell Johnson, FB Lucas Cox, WR Brandyn Harvey, TE Marquez Branson, Cs Paul Fenaroli and Ryan McMahon, DEs Tom McCarthy and Kiante Tripp, LB Bear Woods, CB Kamaal McIlwain, S Matt Hansen, S Rafael Priest and S Suaesi Tuimaunei. The team have released WR Andy Strickland (undisclosed) after raching an injury settlement.

Footballguys view: Chauncey Davis has made a few plays as a rotational end for the team, but they reinforced at the position with Ray Edwards in free agency. Johnson was reportedly having a good camp, but after the team re-signed Jason Snelling, his roster spot was not longer his.

Lions | Meet with Marquez Branson     Sat Sep 11, 07:22 PM

The Detroit Lions met with unrestricted free-agent TE Marquez Branson (Broncos) earlier this week, according to Adam Caplan, of FOXSports.com.

Footballguys view: Branson looked good as a receiver during the preseason but had trouble hanging onto the football and thus was released by Denver. We'll see if the Lions add him to the roster with former Broncos TE Tony Scheffler.

Broncos | Looking for help at tight end    Sat Sep 4, 12:32 AM

The Denver Broncos are looking for help at the tight end position, reports Mike Klis, of The Denver Post. TE Daniel Graham (ribs) has missed time, TE Marquez Branson (knee) just suffered an injury and TE Richard Quinn (undisclosed) has been in and out of practice for weeks, so the team is looking for depth at the position.

Broncos | TE Branson could be used like Scheffler    Fri Aug 13, 07:54 PM

Cecil Lammey, NFL Insider for FRSN and senior writer for Footballguys.com, reports the Denver Broncos may plan on using reserve TE Marquez Branson much in the same way they used Tony Scheffler. Branson has been having a good camp and might have the best hands on the team at the tight end position other than Daniel Graham.

Footballguys view: It's interesting to note because 2009 second-round pick Richard Quinn is thought to be the eventual replacement to Graham because of his blocking ability. The Broncos like what they've seen from Branson, but we don't think he'll do much fantasy wise in 2010.

Denver Broncos backup TE Marquez Branson (undisclosed) returned to the practice field Friday, Aug. 13, reports Lindsay Jones, of The Denver Post. He had been carted off the field earlier in the week. Branson is running as the team's second-string tight end.

Footballguys view: Branson has been having an impressive camp, and could be in for a bigger role than some people expect.

Broncos | Marquez Branson seeing time all over the field    Tue May 25, 11:01 AM

Cecil Lammey, from Footballguys.com, reports Denver Broncos TE Marquez Branson has been all over the field during the team's passing camp. He has aligned as a fullback, tight end, H-back and split wide.

Footballguys view: Branson is currently third on the depth chart behind Daniel Graham and Richard Quinn. Tony Scheffler is now with the Lions, which opens up a spot for a "move" tight end in Denver. Quinn was a second-round selection by the Broncos in the 2009 NFL Draft, but he's more of a Graham clone and an inexperienced receiver (only 12 career receptions at North Carolina). We'll see if Branson can turn heads in training camp.

Broncos | Marquez Branson to take over as receiving TE    Sat Apr 24, 12:13 AM

Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels said TE Marquez Branson is the most likely player to take over as the team's "receiving" tight end, according to The Denver Post's Mike Klis.

Footballguys view: Branson spent last season on the practice squad, so the Broncos can't really know if he's ready for prime time.

Broncos | Eight signed to practice squad    Sun Sep 6, 06:54 PM

The Denver Broncos announced they have re-signed free agents TE Marquez Branson, CB Tony Carter, OG Mitch Erickson, CB D.J. Johnson, LB Braxton Kelley, DL Everette Pedesscleaux, RB Darius Walker and WR Matthew Willis to their practice squad.

Footballguys view: Darius Walker didn't make the active roster, to the surprise of some, but the Broncos decided to sign him to their practice squad. He could see time in the regular season if injuries once again decimate the Broncos RB corps. We like the developmental upside of CB Tony Carter as well.

Broncos | Sign 13 undrafted free agents    Mon Apr 27, 08:14 PM

Lindsay H. Jones, of The Denver Post, reports the Denver Broncos have signed undrafted free-agent RB Kestahn Moore (Florida), WR David Grimes (Notre Dame), WR Travis Shelton (Temple), WR Lucas Taylor (Tennessee), WR Nate Swift (Nebraska), TE Marquez Branson (Central Arkansas), OT Stanley Bryant (East Carolina), OT Marcus Gordon (Kentucky State), DE Rulon Davis (California), DE Everette Pedesscleaux (Northern Iowa), CB Tony Carter (Florida State), LB Lee Robinson (Alcorn State) and P Britton Colquitt (Tennessee). Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Finally some help on defense! After spending 6 of their 10 draft picks on offense (only 1 pick used on the front 7 of their D), the Broncos look to some Priority Free Agents to help out on defense. Iraq War veteran Rulon Davis could become an effective pass rusher in a rotation, CB Tony Carter is known as an athletic ballhawk, LB Lee Robinson is an explosive player who can stay with backs and tight ends in coverage, and DT Everette Pedesscleaux is a massive small school DT/DE tweener who has wreaked havoc against the pass, run, and on special teams.
