Panthers | Jarrett Boykin inks one-year deal with Carolina    Wed Nov 1, 12:46 PM

Free-agent WR Jarrett Boykin (Bills) signed a one-year contract with the Carolina Panthers on Wednesday, Nov. 1. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Boykin was with the Panthers back in 2015. Trading away Kelvin Benjamin (Bills) meant the Panthers needed WR depth. Over the last two years, Boykin has been playing in the CFL for the Calgary Stampeders. He just gives the team depth and that's about it.

Bills | Buffalo cuts seven offensive players    Fri Sep 2, 01:45 PM

Buffalo Bills RBs Dan Herron and James Wilder Jr., WRs Jarrett Boykin, Kain Colter and Dezmin Lewis, TE Blake Annen, and FB Jerome Felton were released Friday, Sept. 2.

Footballguys view: Wilder Jr. is a powerful back, but he lacks the burst to make a big impact as a runner in the NFL. Felton is a fine fullback (he blocked for Adrian Peterson during his 2,000 yard season) but the emergence of Glenn Gronkowski caused the team to move on.

Bills | Sign two wide receivers    Tue Jan 12, 03:27 PM

Free-agent WRs Greg Little (Bengals) and Jarrett Boykin (Panthers) signed Reserve/Futures contracts with the Buffalo Bills Tuesday, Jan. 12.

Footballguys view: We're intrigued by certain players signed to futures deals, but not these two. Even in super-deep dynasty leagues, neither Little or Boykin provide much intrigue or upside.

Jets | Try out several wide receivers    Tue Nov 3, 05:42 PM

Free-agent WRs Jarrett Boykin (Panthers), Aldrick Robinson (Ravens), Greg Salas (Lions) and Damaris Johnson (Texans) tried out for the New York Jets Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Footballguys view: No signing is imminent for any of these players. The Jets are likely just updating their emergency list.

Packers | Jarrett Boykin not an option    Thu Sep 3, 04:35 PM

Free-agent WR Jarrett Boykin (Panthers) has not received any interest from the Green Bay Packers at this point.

Footballguys view: You leave the Packers, you're usually not coming back. Boykin had moments last time around with Green Bay, but it looks like that was more of an "Aaron Rodgers" effect than talent.

Panthers | Two WRs released    Tue Sep 1, 02:58 PM

Carolina Panthers WRs Jarrett Boykin and De'Andre Presley were waived Tuesday, Sept. 1.

Footballguys view: It's a pretty telling sign if you can't make a Panthers team that is desperate for wide receiver talent. Boykin continues to have issues catching on somewhere. He and Presley might have had some impact on this poor roster of wide receivers, but then again, it's a bad sign they were released in light of that fact.

Panthers | Jarrett Boykin cut    Tue Sep 1, 10:24 AM

Carolina Panthers WR Jarrett Boykin was released Tuesday, Sept. 1.

Footballguys view: Boykin will get some interest but getting cut from a team who is dressing food vendors and parking attendants as receivers is not a good sign.

Panthers | Jarrett Boykin signed    Fri Mar 27, 02:06 PM

Free-agent WR Jarrett Boykin (Packers) signed a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers Friday, March 27. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Boykin gets to go home as he grew up in Charlotte and played his high school ball there. After catching 49 passes in 2013, Boykin only snared three passes in 2014 as he fell down the pecking order in Green Bay. The Panthers need wide receiver help behind Kelvin Benjamin, and Boykin will get to prove if he can be more than a reserve/part-time player.

Packers | Friday injury report    Fri Oct 17, 04:33 PM

Green Bay Packers DE Datone Jones (ankle) and CB Sam Shields (knee) have been ruled out for Week 7 against the Carolina Panthers. WR Jarrett Boykin (groin), LB Jamari Lattimore (neck) and CB Tramon Williams (ankle) are questionable, while LB Sam Barrington (hamstring) and DT Josh Boyd (knee) are probable. Jones and Shields didn't practice Friday, Oct. 17. Boykin, Lattimore and Williams were limited, while the others practiced in full. The Packers didn't actually practice Friday, so the designations are an estimation.

Footballguys view: Even if Boykin is active, Davante Adams appears to have seized the #3 wide receiver role for good.

The Green Bay Packers have declared LB Carl Bradford, DL Datone Jones, CB Demetri Goodson, C Garth Gerhart, WR Jarrett Boykin, LB Sam Barrington, QB Scott Tolzien inactive for Week 6.

Packers | Jarrett Boykin could miss two games    Thu Oct 2, 09:15 AM

Updating previous reports, Green Bay Packers WR Jarrett Boykin (groin) has a more severe groin injury than originally thought, and he has been ruled out for Week 5. He could also miss the Week 6 game against the Miami Dolphins.

Footballguys view: Boykin should be off your fantasy team in redraft leagues. Watch for rookie Davante Adams to start to break through. He's a talented WR3 behind Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb. We like Adams' ability to play "above the rim" which makes him a great target in the red zone.

Packers | Wednesday practice report for Week 5    Wed Oct 1, 02:17 PM

Green Bay Packers WR Jarrett Boykin (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 1, and has been ruled out for the team's Week 5 game. LB Josh Boyd (hamstring) and DE Josh Boyd (knee) both did not practice and are doubtful. LB Brad Jones was limited in practice and is probable. LB Mike Neal (hip) did not practice and is probable. OG T.J. Lang (not injury related) is probable. LB Clay Matthews (groin) fully practiced and is probable.

Footballguys view: Davante Adams is a boom/bust WR3/Flex tomorrow night on this news. He had a long TD on an insane throw from Aaron Rodgers called back by penalty last week, so the big play upside is there in this offense with this quarterback.

Packers | Friday injury report    Fri Sep 26, 04:04 PM

Green Bay Packers WR Jarrett Boykin (knee, groin) and LB Brad Jones (quadriceps) are questionable for Week 4 against the Chicago Bears. OT Bryan Bulaga (knee), CB Davon House (knee), LB Clay Matthews (groin) and LB Nick Perry (wrist) are probable. Boykin didn't practice Friday, Sept. 26. Jones, Matthews and Perry were limited, while the others were full participants. The Packers didn't actually practice Friday, and the designations are an estimation.

Packers | Jarrett Boykin struggling    Mon Sep 22, 11:39 AM

Green Bay Packers WR Jarrett Boykin dropped two catchable throws Sunday, Sept. 21, and QB Aaron Rodgers' confidence in him may be waning.

Footballguys view: Time to "shut 'em down" as our guys on The Audible say. Boykin can safely be dropped in redraft formats for a hot waiver wire receiver. We like rookie Davante Adams to eventually shine through as a playmaker at the WR3 position for the Packers.

Packers | Jordy Nelson busy in Week 1    Fri Sep 5, 09:24 AM

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson had nine catches for 83 yards and was targeted 14 times in Week 1.

Footballguys view: Nelson and Aaron Rodgers picked on Byron Maxwell, but there weren't any big plays to be had downfield, and a ball glanced off of Nelson's hands for an interception that pretty much salted this game away for Seattle. Nelson owners survived this one and they should have a better time of it vs. the Jets depleted secondary next week.

Packers | Jarrett Boykin emerging    Thu Aug 28, 10:35 AM

Green Bay Packers WR Jarrett Boykin has taken the next step, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. 'He's physical, his toughness, he's relentless,' McCarthy said. 'I think he's exceptional at the top of his route. You see his strength and balance to separate from a DB.' Boykin's hold on the No. 3 receiver spot will likely limit WR Davante Adams as the fourth receiver.

Footballguys view: As we've said before, while we see Boykin as no better than a WR5 right now, he could be far more productive given that the Packers spread the ball out and Boykin was so valuable last season for them. Boykin is also a guy to watch in Dynasty since Randall Cobb is a free agent next year and Green Bay isn't shy about letting receivers who want a lot of money leave the franchise.

Packers | Jarrett Boykin arrives    Thu Aug 28, 10:07 AM

Green Bay Packers WR Jarrett Boykin has taken the next step, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. 'He's physical, his toughness, he's relentless,' McCarthy said. 'I think he's exceptional at the top of his route. You see his strength and balance to separate from a DB.' Boykin's hold on the No. 3 receiver spot will likely limit WR Davante Adams as the fourth receiver.

Footballguys view: Boykin flashed some ability when Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb were banged up last season, giving the Packers a little more incentive to ditch James Jones. While we see Boykin as no better than a WR5 right now, if there is an injury he could be far more productive. Consider also that with no clear weapon at tight end, the Packers might go to Boykin more often overall in trying to get the defense clear of Cobb and Nelson. Boykin is a guy to watch, especially in Dynasty since Cobb is a free agent next year and the Packers have a history of letting guys go if the pricepoint is too high.

Packers | Jarrett Boykin has hold of No. 3 WR job    Sat Jul 12, 11:56 AM

Green Bay Packers WR Jarrett Boykin will be entering training camp as the No. 3 wide receiver, and it will be hard for one of the other wide receivers to outperform him for the job.

Footballguys view: The Packers have a couple of talented rookies in Davante Adams and Jared Abbrederis behind Boykin. Those two will push the veteran for the WR3 job, but we should see Boykin hold them off during camp. The lack of a quality tight end in Green Bay could mean more targets for Boykin in 2014.

Packers | Jarrett Boykin expected to be No. 3 WR    Fri Apr 4, 09:32 PM

Green Bay Packers WR Jarrett Boykin is expected to be the team's No. 3 wide receiver this upcoming season.

Footballguys view: An interesting note for dynasty owners here. Boykin will take the place of James Jones (Raiders) in the lineup for the Packers. He's got the size to be a red-zone threat, and he's got the speed to do something with the ball after the catch. Boykin was targeted 83 times last year and had 49 catches for 681 yards and three touchdowns. Expect those numbers to rise in 2014.

Packers | Have high hopes for Jarrett Boykin    Wed Mar 26, 07:08 PM

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said he 'fully expects' WR Jarrett Boykin to 'step up' in 2014 now that WR James Jones has moved on.

Footballguys view: Boykin was on pace for a 65-900-4 season last year despite contributing nothing until Randall Cobb went down in the Packers fifth game of the season. He'll be good depth with WR2/WR3 upside if Cobb or Jordy Nelson miss time this year.

Green Bay Packers WR James Jones (knee) was listed as a limited participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 31, and hasn't practiced in full since spraining his left knee Oct. 13.

Footballguys view: The Packers may not rush Jones back if Jarrett Boykin continues to fill in well. Still, with Jermichael Finley and Randall Cobb also gone for now, another proven hand would be helpful. It's looking like that won't happen this week though.

Packers | Jarrett Boykin bursts onto scene    Sun Oct 20, 07:41 PM

Green Bay Packers WR Jarrett Boykin posted 103 receiving yards in the Week 7 game against the Cleveland Browns. He entered the game with just 70 career receiving yards, but saw plenty of action with injuries to WRs Randall Cobb (leg) and James Jones (knee) inactive.

Footballguys view: Boykin will be a hot waiver wire pickup, as he might be worth a start against the woeful Vikings defense even if James Jones is back next week. With Jermichael Finley injured, Boykin should see a lot of snaps in just about any scenario going forward.

Packers | James Jones questionable    Fri Oct 18, 04:32 PM

Green Bay Packers WR James Jones (knee) did not participate in practice Friday, Oct. 18, and is listed as questionable for Week 7.

Footballguys view: Jones is unlikely to play, which would give Jarrett Boykin the chance of a lifetime, with two receivers out ahead of him and the weak set of corners behind Joe Haden to match up with in this contest. He's worth a flex play if you're looking for upside.

Packers | James Jones misses practice    Thu Oct 17, 06:00 PM

Green Bay Packers WR James Jones (knee) did not practice Thursday, Oct. 17.

Footballguys view: An ominous sign for the weekend and the Packers will not rush him back. His absence would leave them without two of their main passing weapons (Jones joins Randall Cobb on the sideline) and will put more attention on Jordy Nelson and Jermichael Finley. Jarrett Boykin will fill in as the WR2 in the offense if Jones is out, but don't overvalue him. Save for a catch and run which showed off his shiftiness (and lack of speed), Boykin was a non-factor when he was in for Jones/Cobb last week. A week with the first offense in practice should help but Boykin's upside is limited.

Packers | Jermichael Finley may be used as WR    Tue Oct 15, 06:30 PM

Green Bay Packers TE Jermichael Finley may line up as a wide receiver starting in Week 7 against the Cleveland Browns with WR Randall Cobb (fibula) on the Injured Reserve and WR James Jones' (knee) availability in question.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Finley is essentially a super sized wide receiver who happens to play the tight end position. Without Cobb we should see an increase in targets for Finley.

Packers | Jermichael Finley to have bigger role?    Tue Oct 15, 12:05 PM

The Green Bay Packers were forced to use mostly two-tight end, two-receiver, one-back sets when WRs James Jones (shin) and Randall Cobb (knee) were injured and left the Week 6 game. TE Jermichael Finley had all three of his catches for 75 yards in the second half of the contest with Jones and Cobb absent, meaning he could take on a much bigger role moving forward. 'I don't know that his role will change,' offensive coordinator Tom Clements said. 'He's always been a focal point of the offense. Depending if Randall or James or both aren't in there then obviously he may get more opportunities, but we try to get him as many opportunities as we can based on how the defense is playing. Whoever's in there is going to have to come up and make plays. I'm certain he'll make his share.'

Footballguys view: Finley is really a super sized wide receiver anyway. Getting him more involved without Randall Cobb just makes the most sense.

Updating previous report, Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb (leg) is expected to miss six to eight weeks because of a fractured fibula he suffered Week 6.

Footballguys view: It's worse than the Packers originally feared. Without Cobb we will see more targets for tight end Jermichael Finley. The Packers may also add a wide receiver off another team's practice squad or a street free agent.

Packers | Fourth receiver job up for grabs    Tue Jul 23, 02:00 AM

Green Bay Packers WRs Jarrett Boykin, Jeremy Ross, Myles White and Charles Johnson will head into training camp battling for the fourth and fifth receiver jobs behind mainstays Randall Cobb, James Jones and Jordy Nelson.

Footballguys view: Ross and Johnson are two interesting names to keep an eye on. Johnson was the team's seventh-round pick (Grand Valley State) in the 2013 NFL draft. He's got an intriguing size (6'2" 215 lbs) speed (4.38 40-yard dash) combination. Ross was an undrafted free agent in 2011 and has bounced around on the Patriots, Colts, and Packers roster. We like his RB-like skill set after the catch.
