Bears | Two fighting for No. 3 RB job    Fri Aug 24, 04:03 PM

Chicago Bears RBs Armando Allen and Lorenzo Booker are competing for the No. 3 running back job. Head coach Lovie Smith believes both running backs could be complements to RBs Matt Forte and Michael Bush.

Footballguys view: Kahlil Bell being cut was a surprise after his performance late last year, but Booker is better as a receiver and returner and Allen could be an elusive change of pace back.

Vikings | Two RFAs do not receive tenders    Tue Mar 13, 02:36 PM

The Minnesota Vikings have decided against tendering offers to restricted free-agent RB Lorenzo Booker and LB Kenny Onatolu, making them unrestricted free agents.

Footballguys view: The team became disappointed in Booker because of ball security issues. Having bounced around the league and spending time in the UFL it may be difficult for Booker to catch on with another team.

Vikings | Caleb King might be promoted    Sat Dec 31, 01:33 AM

It is unclear whether the Minnesota Vikings will dress only two halfbacks, RBs Toby Gerhart and Lorenzo Booker, for the Week 17 game against the Chicago Bears. They might promote RB Caleb King from the practice squad. 'You never know when it's your time,' King said Friday, Dec. 30. 'Luckily, I did follow (the veterans). I know the playbook, so if they throw me in, I'm going to be ready.' RB Jordan Todman was signed this week off the practice squad of the San Diego Chargers, but it's unlikely he'll be up to speed with the team's playbook to contribute.

Footballguys view: King was with the team during training camp and should have a better grasp on the playbook than Todman. Even if he is active we're not expecting him to get many touches on Sunday.

Vikings | Lorenzo Booker, Percy Harvin might see more carries    Thu Nov 24, 10:12 PM

Minnesota Vikings RB Lorenzo Booker and WR Percy Harvin will likely split time behind RB Toby Gerhart in Week 12 if RB Adrian Peterson (ankle) is inactive.

Footballguys view: Harvin becomes a borderline WR1 if a share of the carries while being the primary target for Christian Ponder.

Vikings | Toby Gerhart in line to start    Wed Nov 23, 02:47 PM

Minnesota Vikings RB Toby Gerhart is in line to start in Week 12 against the Atlanta Falcons if RB Adrian Peterson (ankle) cannot play. RB Lorenzo Booker will also see some work.

Footballguys view: Gerhart has a good size/speed combination but needs to be a more determined runner before he gets to the second level. Too often this season we've seen Gerhart dance in the backfield and not maximize the yardage gained.

Each of the three players have kick returns of at least 68 yards this season.

Vikings | Several players fail to attend workout    Thu Jun 2, 09:47 AM

Minnesota Vikings QB Christian Ponder had hoped to bring together a larger group of teammates for workouts this week, but several veterans who had committed to attend didn't show up as expected Wednesday, June 1. WRs Sidney Rice, Percy Harvin and Bernard Berrian, RB Lorenzo Booker and TE Visanthe Shiancoe had been expected to join a group of seven players who worked out at the IMG Madden Football Academy, but none showed up, citing a variety of excuses. 'I thought it would be hard and probably should have had better planning,' Ponder said of scheduling the informal minicamp right after the Memorial Day weekend. 'We'll definitely do it again and hopefully a bunch more guys will show up ... I talked to a few guys, some other guys we couldn't get a hold of ... We got some good work in. To be around some of the guys was good for me.'

Vikings | Lorenzo Booker signed    Mon Dec 6, 02:03 PM

The Minnesota Vikings have signed free-agent RB Lorenzo Booker (Eagles), reports Judd Zulgad, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Booker played in the UFL this year and was a star for that league. He will help the Vikings out as a return man, and could be used effectively as a receiver out of the backfield.

Adam Caplan, of Scout.com, reports free-agent FB Kyle Eckel (Eagles) and free-agent RB Lorenzo Booker (Eagles) worked out for the Houston Texans this week, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Booker has never lived up to his potential, and would only be a change of pace back if signed.

Bills | Work out two running backs    Sat Sep 19, 03:31 PM

Adam Schefter, from ESPN, reports on his twitter feed that the Buffalo Bills worked out running backs Lorenzo Booker and DeDe Dorsey on Friday.

Ralph Vacchiano, of the New York Daily News, reports the New York Giants worked out unrestricted free-agent RB Lorenzo Booker (Eagles) Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Eagles | Announce roster moves    Sat Sep 5, 06:09 PM

Chris McPherson, of PhiladelphiaEagles.com, reports the Philadelphia Eagles have waived CB Trae Williams, CB Jack Ikegwuonu, DE Bryan Smith, DE Josh Gaines, LB Torrance Daniels, FS Reshard Langford, WR Danny Amendola, RB Lorenzo Booker, C Dallas Reynolds, OG Paul Fanaika, OG Michael Gibson, TE Robert Myers, FB Marcus Mailei and FB Kyle Eckel. The Eagles have also released LB Matt Wilhelm and TE Matt Schobel.

Footballguys view: It looks like both Reggie Brown and Brandon Gibson will make the final roster at WR, and Eldra Buckley will make it at RB. Booker has been a disappointment for the Eagles, and he looks like he's lost his confidence when running the football. He may catch on with another team as a change of pace back.

Eagles | Booker not a lock to make the final roster    Sat Aug 1, 12:55 PM

Paul Domowitch, from the Philadelphia Daily News, reports Lorenzo Booker, who dropped a couple of passes in Thursday's non-contact practice, dropped a couple more in yesterday's first full-gear workout. Booker, who got just 26 touches last year after the Eagles traded a fourth-round pick for him on Draft Day, is no lock to make the roster. "He's got good hands," Reid said. "I'm not sure what the deal is. He dropped a couple yesterday and a couple today. He'll work through that."

Footballguys view: Booker has been a disappointment since coming over from the Miami Dolphins after his rookie season. Rookie LeSean McCoy has been impressing the coaching staff and teammates alike, so the Eagles may decide that Booker doesn't fit into their plans anymore.

Eagles | Booker having trouble catching the football    Fri Jul 31, 01:04 PM

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid said RB Lorenzo Booker has dropped a couple of passes each of the past two days. 'He'll work through that,' Reid said. 'But, naturally he's got good hands.'

Footballguys view: LeSean McCoy will open up a sizable gap between himself and Booker for the #2 RB job at this rate.

Eagles | McCoy taking first-team reps    Tue Jul 28, 12:47 PM

PhiladelphiaEagles.com reports that Eagles second-round pick RB LeSean McCoy has been playing with the first-team offense while RB Brian Westbrook is out. The wesbite also reports that McCoy "has been playing at a different speed than the other guys on the field".

Footballguys view: At this rate, Lorenzo Booker won't be able to put up too much of a fight to be the backup RB in Philadelphia. McCoy is looking more and more like a solid handcuff to Westbrook.

Eagles | Westbrook back by mid-August?    Sun Jul 26, 05:41 PM

Adam Caplan, of Scout.com, reports on his Twitter feed that Eagles RB Brian Westbrook has a chance to get back on the practice field by mid-August, according to head coach Andy Reid, which is "exactly what we've been hearing". Caplan adds that "at what capacity" remains to be seen, so don't expect Westbook to play in more than one preseason game. Caplan thinks Westbrook will need 2-3 weeks to get ready for the regular season/

Footballguys view: The clouds around Westbrook are parting and some sunlight can finally be seen. This kind of news makes Westbrook a less dicey proposition in the early to mid-second round, especially in PPR leagues.

Eagles | Three to split time at running back in camp    Thu Jul 23, 12:01 PM

Bob Brookover, of The Philadelphia Inquirer, reports Philadelphia Eagles RBs Lorenzo Booker, LeSean McCoy and Kyle Eckel will receive the majority of work at running back during training camp with RB Brian Westbrook (ankle) recovering from ankle surgery. FB Leonard Weaver is also viewed as a contributor at running back.

Footballguys view: Weaver is going to be occupied learning the intricacies of the fullback position in Philly's offense, but he will most definitely be a contributor to the offense. In fact, Weaver is the best short yardage back the Eagles have on the roster, so if they want to save Westbrook some of that punishment, expect them to turn to Weaver.

Eagles | Westbrook to lose full-time goal line duties?    Tue Jul 21, 07:22 PM

John Czarnecki, of FoxSports.com, reports that Eagles RB Brian Westbrook will "no longer will be amassing 350 touches a season and handle the full-time goal-line running back duties."

Footballguys view: Czarnecki has not been the most reliable source of information on gamedays, so we wouldn't do anything drastic on this news, but Westbrook having surgery at a time that keeps him from participating in training camp is a red flag. Leonard Weaver gives the Eagles an excellent short yardage alternative to Westbrook, so Czarnecki's warning could prove to be correct.

Eagles | C Jackson: We want to run more    Mon Jul 20, 11:31 AM

Bob Brookover, of the Philadelphia Inquirer, reports that starting center Jamaal Jackson said the offensive line wants to give head coach Andy Reid the ability to run more. Jackson commented, "We want the coach to have the confidence in us to run the football a little bit more. I mean, we really have some road graders on the outside now, and we have some pretty powerful guys on the inside, too."

Footballguys view: The Eagles will never be accused of being a power-running team, but with the addition of talented second-round pick LeSean McCoy and hard-charging RB/FB tweener Leonard Weaver, they could lean more on the running game this year if Jackson and co. are successful in the mission to win Reid's confidence.

Eagles | Other backs could rotate with Westbrook    Fri Jun 5, 05:21 PM

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid said the team has to wait to see how RBs Lorenzo Booker and LeSean McCoy (thumb) progress before the team alters their approach with how they use RB Brian Westbrook (ankle) in 2009.

Footballguys view: 'If the other guys are capable of getting in there and doing their thing, then that's what we'll do. We'll rotate them in there,' Reid said. We imagine the Eagles will use a 2 or 3-headed RBBC with LeSean McCoy, Lorenzo Booker, and FB Leonard Weaver.

Eagles | Booker has improved on pass protection    Fri Jun 5, 05:20 PM

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid said backup RB Lorenzo Booker has improved from last season and has worked really hard on improving his pass protection.

Footballguys view: Reid would not say that Booker is ahead of rookie RB LeSean McCoy (thumb) on the depth chart, though. He said the backs have been rotating in and they are trying to mix them in to make sure they get the same number of reps.

Eagles | Booker seeing most time with first team    Fri Jun 5, 12:26 PM

Bob Brookover, of the Philadelphia Inquirer, reports Philadelphia Eagles RB Lorenzo Booker got the majority of the snaps with the first-team offense during practice Thursday, June 4.

Footballguys view: LeSean McCoy is getting some positive press lately - even before the Westbrook injury, but we can't forget about veteran Lorenzo Booker. The Eagles traded for him last season after the Dolphins drafted him in 2007, right before Philly was set to select him. He was thought of as a Westbrook-Lite in this offense, but failed to impress when he was on the field. He's holding off the rookie for now, and if he was named the starter in the absence of Westy the Eagles would use a RBBC with McCoy and FB Leonard Weaver as well.

Eagles | Booker believes backup job is his to lose    Wed May 27, 06:21 AM

Jeff McLane, of The Philadelphia Inquirer, reports Philadelphia Eagles backup RB Lorenzo Booker said he believes he is the team's No. 2 running back behind starter Brian Westbrook. That, however, doesn't jive with what head coach Andy Reid said earlier in May when he noted rookie RB LeSean McCoy had that role. 'For me to start sweating, you've got to take my job,' Booker said. 'Come take my job. If you can take it, then take it. We'll see. That's what the whole point of camp and all that is.'

Footballguys view: Lorenzo Booker has never quite put it all together in the pros. He showed flashes as a runner and receiver as a rookie with the Dolphins, and when the Eagles traded for him last year some believed that Booker could look similar to starter Brian Westbrook in that offense. His numbers were very poor and his YPC went from 4.5 to 2.6, while his YPR dropped from 8.5 to a paltry 1.8. Booker will now have to battle LeSean McCoy to be the main backup to Brian Westbrook. Unless he performs much better than he did last season Booker could drop to 3rd on the depth chart.
