Chargers | Kyle Boller retired?    Sat Jul 28, 07:25 PM

It appears San Diego Chargers QB Kyle Boller has quit the team and retired. He was not at practice Saturday, July 28.

Footballguys view: Billy Volek to the white courtesy phone.

Chargers | Showed interest in Billy Volek    Sat Jul 28, 01:29 AM

The San Diego Chargers and free-agent QB Billy Volek (Chargers) had a mutual interest in a reunion, but remained apart on dollar figures. The team ended up inking QB Kyle Boller instead.

Footballguys view: Volek is on a lot of team's speed dials during training camp. The seasoned veteran can be used as an emergency starting QB and could get a phone call if injuries hit the QB position during August.

Chargers | Kyle Boller signed    Fri Jul 27, 02:08 PM

The San Diego Chargers have signed free-agent QB Kyle Boller (Raiders) to a one-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Boller gives them a veteran backup behind Philip Rivers while Charlie Whitehurst is out with an injury. Whitehurst has an MCL sprain and may miss two weeks.

NFL | Terrell Owens training with current players    Tue Jul 17, 03:13 PM

Free-agent WR Terrell Owens (Bengals) worked out with New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees, Oakland Raiders QB Carson Palmer and free-agent QB Kyle Boller (Raiders) a few weeks ago, and Owens worked out with Seattle Seahawks WR Golden Tate Monday, July 16. Owens also trained with Carolina Panthers QB Jimmy Clausen Monday.

Footballguys view: Owens probably won't get signed during training camp, but if a team suffers a major injury at wide receiver and has championship aspirations, he could get a look. We have little doubt that he can still physically hack it in the NFL. It's just a question of whether a team would be willing to take on the distraction/disruption of adding Owens.

Ravens | Kyle Boller tries out for team    Thu Apr 19, 01:34 AM

Free-agent QB Kyle Boller (Raiders) worked out for the Baltimore Ravens, his former team, Wednesday, April 18.

Footballguys view: Ironic that Boller would get a tryout with the Ravens since he was a first-round bust for them several years ago.

Ravens | Working out three QBs    Wed Apr 18, 04:55 PM

The Baltimore Ravens are working out free-agent QBs Kyle Boller (Raiders), Dennis Dixon (Steelers) and Curtis Painter (Colts) Wednesday, April 18.

Footballguys view: Interesting to note they would consider bringing back Boller as he was a first-round bust for them years ago. The Ravens are looking for competition at the backup QB position. Currently they only have Tyrod Taylor as the primary backup behind Joe Flacco.

Raiders | Carson Palmer debuts with three INTs    Sun Oct 23, 07:49 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Carson Palmer replaced an ineffective QB Kyle Boller in the third quarter of the Week 7 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs, but he wasn't much better. He completed just eight of his 21 passes for 116 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions, including one which was returned by CB Brandon Flowers for 58 yards and a score.

Footballguys view: Palmer telegraphed throws and looked more like Kerry Collins than a savior in this one. His fantasy stock has chilled with this showing, but he can only improve coming out of the bye in two weeks.

Raiders | Kyle Boller to start    Fri Oct 21, 05:41 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Kyle Boller will start against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7, not newly acquired QB Carson Palmer. There was concern about Palmer's ability to make 'high-velocity throws.' Boller will be making his first start since 2009.

Raiders | Kyle Boller working with starters    Fri Oct 21, 02:24 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Kyle Boller was working with the first-team offense during the media-access portion of practice Friday, Oct. 21.

Footballguys view: Terrelle Pryor also got first team snaps this week and head coach Hue Jackson said he might use more than one QB, so Boller isn't even safe as an emergency bye week QB.

Raiders | Hue Jackson coy on starting QB for Week 7    Tue Oct 18, 09:20 PM

Oakland Raiders head coach Hue Jackson was noncommittal Tuesday, Oct. 18, when asked about his starting quarterback for Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs. 'You think I'm gonna tell you that? We'll see as we continue to move through the week,' Jackson said. The general thinking is that QB Kyle Boller will start in Week 7, and newly acquired QB Carson Palmer will be given through the bye in Week 8 to learn the playbook and get up to speed with his new system.

Footballguys view: We'll be watching practice reports closely. If Boller is the starter, Kansas City becomes a much more interesting waiver wire defense this week.

Raiders | Will not name a starting QB for Week 7     Tue Oct 18, 09:27 AM

Oakland Raiders head coach Hue Jackson would commit to nothing regarding his starting quarterback for Week 7 until the trade deadline has passed and he examined every option available in the wake of QB Jason Campbell's (clavicle) loss with a broken clavicle. Jackson would not even say flat-out that QB Kyle Boller would start in Week 7.

Raiders | Kyle Boller the starter    Mon Oct 17, 03:06 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Kyle Boller will be the team's starting quarterback heading into Week 7 unless the team acquires a veteran quarterback this week. QB Terrelle Pryor is the current backup and is scheduled to come off the exempt list Monday, Oct. 17. CB Joseph Porter is expected to be released if the team brings in another quarterback.

Footballguys view: Boller has a strong arm, good receiving weapons, and a great running game to help keep defenses honest. We like him as a desperation bye week fill in at QB, and he could see competition for the starting job if the Raiders sign (or trade for) a veteran QB.

Raiders | Kyle Boller finishes up Week 6 win    Sun Oct 16, 09:25 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Kyle Boller completed 8 of 14 passes for 100 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 6 against the Cleveland Browns. Boller might be in line to start, unless the team brings in a player from outside of the organization, as QB Jason Campbell (collarbone) suffered a broken bone and might be out for the season.

Footballguys view: Trent Edwards spent time with the Raiders in the preseason, so he could be the logical signing. Boller did do a good job hooking up with Darrius Heyward-Bey, so DHB could retain some value despite the QB change.

Raiders | Jason Campbell headed to locker room    Sun Oct 16, 05:27 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Jason Campbell (shoulder) suffered an apparent right shoulder injury in the second quarter of the Week 6 game against the Cleveland Browns. He was taken to the locker room. QB Kyle Boller replaced him.

Footballguys view: Campbell appeared to have a serious injury with the amount of pain he was visibly in. Rookie Terrelle Pryor did not dress for this game, but he could be an intriguing option later this year if Campbell is out for a while and Boller goes down.

Raiders | Kyle Boller likely the No. 2 QB    Tue Aug 30, 10:26 AM

Oakland Raiders QB Kyle Boller is the odds-on choice to be the team's backup quarterback.

Footballguys view: Boller and Trent Edwards were battling to be the primary backup behind Jason Campbell. The third-string QB will likely be released when rookie Terrelle Pryor comes back from his suspension.

Raiders | Nearing backup QB decision    Tue Aug 30, 01:54 AM

Oakland Raiders head coach Hue Jackson said Monday, Aug. 29, that he is pretty sure he knows which way he is leaning in the backup QB battle between Kyle Boller and Trent Edwards. In the game Sunday, Aug. 28, against the New Orleans Saints, Edwards looked indecisive, while Boller was adequate.

Raiders | Three QBs expected to remain on roster     Mon Aug 29, 09:49 AM

Oakland Raiders QBs Jason Campbell, Kyle Boller and Trent Edwards are expected to be on the final roster.

Raiders | Backup QB battle remains tight    Mon Aug 29, 01:11 AM

Oakland Raiders QB Kyle Boller completed five of his seven pass attempts for 69 yards in the preseason game Sunday, Aug. 28, against the New Orleans Saints. QB Trent Edwards connected on six of his 10 attempts for 60 yards, but he also lost a fumble. Edwards did not get to work with many first- or second-team players as Boller, but he looked unsure on several plays, and he was sacked three times.

Footballguys view: Both Boller and Edwards will make the team now, but this battle is important because once rookie Terrelle Pryor comes back from his suspension then somebody has to go.

Raiders | Battle at backup quarterback    Sun Jul 31, 03:49 AM

Oakland Raiders QBs Trent Edwards and Kyle Boller will battle during training camp for the No. 2 quarterback role.

Footballguys view: Raiders fans have to hope Jason Campbell improves and stays healthy when they look at those two names. Edwards check down show would be better for eventual re-signee Zach Miller, while Boller's occasional bravado and arm strength would suit Jacoby Ford better.

Raiders | Adding QB Young a 'Raiders' type of move    Wed May 18, 06:37 PM

Matt Williamson, from ESPN.com and Scouts Inc, believes that adding QB Vince Young would be a 'Raiders type' of move. Young's time in Tennessee is done and is likely to be traded or cut.

Footballguys view: The Raiders have Jason Campbell as their starter, but Kyle Boller as the primary backup. Young could compete for playing time, and might be able to impress enough to get the starting nod. Hey, it's Al Davis so you just never know.

Raiders | Kyle Boller appears to be No. 2 QB    Wed May 11, 03:27 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Kyle Boller appears to be the team's No. 2 quarterback next season because they decided to re-sign him before the lockout began.

Footballguys view: The Raiders look to be moving forward with Jason Campbell as the starter and Kyle Boller as the primary backup. Boller never lived up to his draft status, and the results could be disastrous if he sees the field as a starter in 2011.

Raiders | Remain mum on starting quarterback    Fri Oct 22, 09:48 AM

Oakland Raiders head coach Tom Cable has yet to decide who will start at quarterback in Week 7 after QBs Jason Campbell (knee), Bruce Gradkowski (shoulder) and Kyle Boller all practiced in some fashion Thursday, Oct. 21, according to The Associated Press. 'They all did a little bit more today but it was kind of like yesterday in terms of rep breakdown and all that,' Cable said. 'It was pretty even for Kyle and Jason. Bruce did a lot of individual work and some light throwing but nothing more than that.' Cable hasn't ruled out any of the three, saying Gradkowski would be the starter if he's healthy. If he's unable to play and Campbell can, then the job is his.

Footballguys view: Jason Campbell's play was so poor last week that the Raiders might be better off going to Kyle Boller even if Campbell is the healthier QB. Boller targeted TE Daniel Fells frequently when he was thrown into action with the Rams last year, so Zach Miller owners could benefit if he plays.

Raiders | Kyle Boller could start in Week 7    Tue Oct 19, 11:29 AM

Oakland Raiders head coach Tom Cable said QB Kyle Boller could start in Week 7 with QBs Bruce Gradkowski (shoulder) and Jason Campbell (knee) nursing injuries, according to The Associated Press. Cable added he would likely make a decision on his starter Wednesday, Oct. 20.

Footballguys view: The Raiders would like Bruce Gradkowski to get back into the starting lineup, but his shoulder injury may prevent him from doing that this week against the Broncos. The Denver defense has a ton of injured players but could still feast on Kyle Boller if he gets the call.

Footballguys view: Miller should be the main target in the Raiders passing game, and fantasy owners need to take note. Waiting on tight end may be the strategy you employ in your draft, and a guy like Miller is a perfect target once the top seven tight ends are off the board.
