Atlanta Falcons DE Kroy Biermann was the emergency linebacker the last three games with LB Sean Weatherspoon (illness) out of action. Biermann is playing a traditional defensive end in the 4-3 defense but when the team uses the 3-4 or 3-3-5 alignments, he's more of an outside 'backer. 'We ask him to rush the passer,' head coach Mike Smith said. 'We ask him to cover backs. We ask him to cover tight ends. We ask him to close the middle of the field. You just don't know where he's going to be.'

| Footballguys view: The Falcons selected Lawrence Sidbury in the 4th round of the 2009 NFL Draft and he is certainly a player to keep an eye on because his potential as a pass rusher is huge. In the FCS Championship Game Sidbury had an amazing performance with 4 game-changing sacks to help seal the victory for the Richmond Spiders. He was at both the Shrine Game and the Senior Bowl this year and stood out from the crowd in both Houston and Mobile. He is a tremendous athlete that has perfected his "Sidbury Spin" move to get after the QB. It could take a few years for him to develop fully as a pass rusher, but it's likely that the Falcons got a steal in the 4th round. |
