Rams | Zac Stacy needs push for 1,000 yards    Wed Dec 11, 03:40 AM

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy enters Week 15 with 721 rushing yards and is in pursuit of a 1,000-yard rushing season, which would make him just the third by a rookie in team history, joining Jerome Bettis in 1993 and Eric Dickerson in 1983. Eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark would require him to perform just beyond his per-game average of 79 yards in his nine starts this season.

Footballguys view: Stacy could get 1,000 yards rushing even though he didn't begin the year as the starter. He only had one carry entering Week 5 against the Jaguars. In that game the team relied on him for 14 carries for 78 yards. Stacy hasn't looked back since then.

Steelers | Jerome Bettis says Mike Wallace should report     Thu Aug 9, 12:05 PM

Former NFL RB Jerome Bettis said Pittsburgh Steelers restricted free-agent WR Mike Wallace should report to the team as that is the only way he will ever receive a long-term deal. Bettis added that Wallace doesn't understand how the organization operates. 'I think when you go through the history of the Steelers, they do things a bit differently,' Bettis said. 'And when you look at in relationship to their stars, they still stay one way. They're firm in their resolve and the way they do things ... the problem is, you know, Mike (Wallace) doesn't really understand the concept of how the Steelers work, and so he's got to kind of figure that out. Once he figures that out and comes in, I think they'll work a deal out.'

Footballguys view: We have a feeling Wallace will show up in time for the start of the regular season. This holdout has damaged the relationship between Wallace and the team, but those tensions could be eased if Wallace produces big numbers in the Todd Haley offense.

Steelers | Bettis critical of former team    Fri Sep 18, 10:29 AM

Ron Cook, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports retired RB Jerome Bettis was critical of his former team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, in particular the running backs. 'Willie Parker: I haven't seen much from him,' Bettis wrote in a column for SI.com. 'Rashard Mendenhall: I haven't really seen him, period ...The running back I like least on that team is Frank Summers, the rookie fullback. He doesn't seem to understand what's going on. He's missing plenty of blocks.' Bettis was also critical of the offensive line. 'They have no continuity. On top of not being able to protect Ben Roethlisberger, they're letting running backs get hit before they reach the line of scrimmage ... The problem isn't anything new, and I blame the coaching staff for not addressing the line in the offseason ... Pittsburgh can't repeat with the line playing like this.'

Footballguys view: Bettis was asked about the comments later, and said that he didn't say anything that everybody doesn't already know.

Bob Raissman, of the New York Daily News, reports former Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy has inked a deal to join NBC's Sunday 'Football Night in America' pregame team, according to industry sources.

Footballguys view: Dungy is expected to replace Jerome Bettis. At least NBC is not trying to jam pack another analyst into an already over-stuffed studio.
