Patriots | Martellus Bennett returning to NE? Fri Mar 8, 04:12 PM
Retired TE Martellus Bennett is interested in coming out of retirement and signing with the New England Patriots so he can play on the same team with DE Michael Bennett, according to a source.
Footballguys view: The Patriots have been looking for tight end help and Bennett would be just that. With the uncertain status of Rob Gronkowski at this time, Bennett is a player worth monitoring in dynasty formats. |

NFL | Martellus Bennett retires Fri Mar 23, 09:04 PM
Free-agent TE Martellus Bennett (Patriots) announced his retirement from the NFL Friday, March 23.
Footballguys view: The 'Black Unicorn' will now ride off into the sunset. He's been talking about retirement for some time and now it's over. A second-round pick of the Cowboys in the 2008 NFL draft, Bennett never did much in Dallas as a backup. His one year with the Giants (2012) his physical gifts finally starting paying off in terms of production. The next stop was Chicago where Bennett produced two seasons of TE1 numbers for fantasy owners. One more TE1 season (2016) was had by Bennett and then last year he bounced between two teams (Packers, Patriots) and didn't do much. We'll always remember him for those good days, for his bravado and of course for the best nickname ever for an NFL player...that he gave himself. |

Dolphins | Miami unlikely to consider Martellus Bennett Thu Mar 8, 03:56 PM
Free-agent TE Martellus Bennett (Patriots) likely will not be an option for the Miami Dolphins this offseason.
Footballguys view: Bennett hasn't worked out anywhere really in the last few years, and is likely running out of chances. Someone will kick the tires during Camp however. |

Patriots | Martellus Bennett done in New England Wed Mar 7, 04:13 PM
New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett is being released Wednesday, March 7, according to a source. Bennett would have been a salary cap hit of nearly $6.2 million.
Footballguys view: No surprise here. Bennett's season was marred by injury in 2017, and he brought up retirement at the end of the year. Recently, Bennett has expressed the desire to keep playing and he should get some interest on the open market for any team in need of a playmaking tight end. |

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett is scheduled to receive a $2 million roster bonus March 14. The team would save $6.2 million in salary cap space if they release Bennett.
Footballguys view: Bennett has discussed retirement, so there's no guarantee that he'll even want to play in 2018. The Patriots could always ask him to take a pay cut if they want him on the team this season. |

Patriots | Free agency decisions ahead for New England Mon Feb 5, 01:55 PM
The New England Patriots face the prospect of losing several key free agents. The Patriots have to address key impending free agents in OTs Nate Solder, Cameron Fleming and LaAdrian Waddle, along with RB Rex Burkhead, WR Danny Amendola, CB Malcolm Butler, WR/ST Matthew Slater and RB Dion Lewis. New England is projected to have approximately $17 million in salary cap space. TE Dwayne Allen, TE Martellus Bennett, DT Alan Branch, LB David Harris and RB Mike Gillislee all could be released to create more cap space.
Footballguys view: Solder is their franchise left tackle, and there's not a lot of talent at the position in this free agent class. There is speculation that Solder will end up retiring. |

Patriots | Martellus Bennett placed on IR Mon Nov 27, 05:03 PM
New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (shoulder, hamstring) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Monday, Nov. 27, according to a source.
Footballguys view: Bennett only appeared in a couple of games with the Patriots before missing Week 12 and now getting shut down for the year. He's discussed retiring earlier this year, so perhaps Bennett will hang up his cleats. The Patriots do own his rights if he wants to play in 2018. |

Patriots | Martellus Bennett limited again at practice Thu Nov 16, 07:52 PM
New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (hamstring, shoulder) was limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Nov. 16.
Footballguys view: There's a lot of confusion about how serious Bennett's injury really is. As it stands it sure doesn't look like he's playing this weekend, although the Patriots could really use another pair of hands for Tom Brady to throw to. If the injury is serious enough to continually keep him off the practice field, one imagines he may not be much help for this passing offense this week even if he plays. |

The Green Bay Packers are expected to go after the signing bonus of TE Martellus Bennett, who was released last week due to a failure to reportedly disclose a pre-existing medical condition, according to multiple sources. It is uncertain if the Packers are seeking repayment of the entire $6.3 million signing bonus or the $4.2 million prorated portion of the three-year, $21 milliion contract. Green Bay has not officially filed the grievance against Bennett, who is now a member of the New England Patriots, but they have more than a month to do so.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett plans to travel Fri Nov 10, 07:23 PM
New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (shoulder) plans to travel with the team for their Week 9 game against the Denver Broncos but his status for the game remains uncertain.
Footballguys view: It would be a bit surprising to see Bennett on the field against the Broncos on Sunday night. When at full strength, Bennett will serve as the backup to Rob Gronkowski and see time on the field when the Pats go with 2-TE formations. |

Patriots | Martellus Bennett has torn rotator cuff Fri Nov 10, 08:08 AM
Updating previous reports, New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (shoulder) was cut by the Green Bay Packers because of a torn rotator cuff, according to sources. He could try to play through it or could land on Injured Reserve.
Footballguys view: The Patriots claiming Bennett also helped their compensatory pick calculation. They might also see a chance for him to play in a limited fashion, but he won't have fantasy value unless Rob Gronkowski gets hurt. He is at practice, so it looks like the Patriots will get him on the field soon. |

Patriots | Martellus Bennett claimed by Patriots Thu Nov 9, 04:33 PM
Former Green Bay Packers TE Martellus Bennett was claimed off waivers by the New England Patriots Thursday, Nov. 9, according to a source.
Footballguys view: Bennett did pretty well for himself, and the Patriots, last time he was in New England. It may take a week or two for him to get fully involved in the offense though. He's battling a shoulder injury, so his Week 10 status for the Sunday night game against the Broncos is unknown at this time. |

Bennett has previously stated that he wants to retire after this year. He's now exposed to the waiver process and there might be enough interest to get him on another team before the season is over. |

Packers | Doubtful tag for Martellus Bennett Sat Nov 4, 03:55 PM
Green Bay Packers TE Martellus Bennett (shoulder) did not participate in practice Saturday, Nov. 4, and is listed as doubtful for Week 9.
Footballguys view: This injury forces Bennett out of the lineup for the first time in 2017. He's not been doing much with the Packers as a receiver this year, but Bennett is a strong blocker who helps blast open holes for the rushing attack. Lance Kendricks and Richard Rodgers will fill in for Bennett in Week 9 against the Lions. |

Green Bay Packers TE Martellus Bennett finished with five catches for 47 yards in a Week 2 loss to the Atlanta Falcons but committed four drops - a problem offensive coordinator Edgar Bennett believes is rooted in fundamentals.
Footballguys view: Multiple drops and a pass interference penalty hurt Bennett's production in Week 2. He's got eight receptions for 90 yards over the first two weeks of the season, but fantasy owners were expecting more in a high-powered Packers passing attack. We'll see if Bennett can round into form as the season goes on. |

Packers | Green Bay has embraced TE in red zone Tue Jul 11, 11:02 PM
Green Bay Packers TEs Andrew Quarless (13) and Richard Rodgers (14) ranked among the team's top three players in red zone targets in 2014 in 2015, respectively, before Jared Cook's injury-plagued 2016 campaign ruined the streak. Martellus Bennett signed a three-year, $21 million contract to be the team's top tight end in the offseason.
Footballguys view: Message! Fantasy owners were already excited about Bennett signing with the Packers and that sounds even better with this historical data. Bennett could work to become a favorite target of QB Aaron Rodgers quickly ... especially when the team is near pay dirt. He's coming off the board at TE8 (7.10) in 12-team PPR leagues. |
