Lions | Looking for more from two RBs Thu Aug 18, 03:55 PM
Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said the team will be looking for more production from RBs Jerome Harrison and Mike Bell in the second preseason game. The two running backs combined for 13 yards on 11 carries in the first preseason game.
Footballguys view: Schwartz wanted to establish a strong running game in Detroit, but Mikel Leshoure's season-ending achilles injury will make that very difficult. Harrison got almost no interest on the free agent market, and we're seeing why. |

Lions | Two RBs signed Tue Aug 9, 10:12 AM
The Detroit Lions have signed free-agent RBs Jerome Harrison (Eagles) and Mike Bell (Browns). Terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: The season ending injury for Mikel LeShoure has the Lions scrambling to add talent. Bell is purely a power runner who can grind out tough yards. Harrison is a good change up runner with speed and agility to be dangerous in the open field. |

Browns | Mike Bell not expected back Sun May 15, 06:02 PM
The Cleveland Browns are not expected to re-sign impending free-agent RB Mike Bell once the lockout is over.
Footballguys view: Bell is a one-dimensional power back who could find a home with another team. The Browns are expected to use both Peyton Hillis and second-year RB Montario Hardesty as their primary backs in 2011. |

Browns | Mike Bell could see more time in Week 17 Thu Dec 30, 11:31 AM
Cleveland Browns RB Mike Bell could receive extended playing time in Week 17 with RB Peyton Hillis (ribs) nursing an injury, according to CBSSports.com.
Footballguys view: Hillis has been banged up in recent weeks, so the Browns may save some wear and tear on their star runner by giving Bell more carries. Going up against the Steelers this week we're not predicting much success for the Browns ground game. |

Browns | Believe Mike Bell can be effective Week 6 Sat Oct 16, 11:58 AM
Cleveland Browns offense coordinator Brian Daboll believes RB Mike Bell can be effective in Week 6 even though the team acquired him earlier this week, reports Mary Kay Cabot, of The Cleveland Plain Dealer. Daboll said there are some plays that Bell as ran in the past.
Footballguys view: Mike Bell runs similarly to Peyton Hillis but he's nowhere near as talented. Bell also gets banged up regularly, so we're not expecting much from him especially this week against the Steelers. |

Browns | Mike Bell acquired Wed Oct 13, 02:48 PM
The Cleveland Browns have acquired RB Mike Bell from the Philadelphia Eagles for RB Jerome Harrison, according to FOXSports.com.
Footballguys view: Two former Broncos in Cleveland now. Jerome Harrison was not a favorite of Mike Holmgren and the team wanted more power when running the football. Bell will play a backup role behind Peyton Hillis. |

Eagles | Rookie Scott the likely third-string RB Tue Jul 20, 05:10 PM
The Eagles official website reports sixth-round draft pick Charles Scott (LSU) appeared to bump ahead of veteran Eldra Buckley in the spring, and he likely heads into training camp as the No. 3 halfback.
Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to remember the name Charles Scott. He's got a nose for the end zone and is a powerful runner who gets stronger as the game goes on. Scott reminds many in the scouting community of former Bengals back Rudi Johnson because of his straight ahead no-nonsense style. Scott is currently behind LeSean McCoy and Mike Bell, but could see an increase in playing time if Bell is injured (again). |

Eagles | Know running game remains vital Sat Jun 26, 05:05 PM
Eric Edholm, from ProFootballWeekly.com, reports that with all of the talk about how the offense will be different with the change from Donovan McNabb to Kevin Kolb at quarterback, it's easy to forget how important the run game might be in the big picture. It's nearly a given that the Eagles will throw the ball more than they run it this season. Since Andy Reid took over in 1999, the team has thrown the ball more than it passed it every season and has hovered around the 60 percent passing mark several times. But taking pressure off Kolb to win games by himself will be an important element of the Eagles' offensive identity.
Footballguys view: LeSean McCoy is going to be the main man for the Eagles, but shouldn't be a guy who gets 22-25 carries a game. Instead, the Eagles will complement him with veteran power back Mike Bell. Because he's been injury prone during his pro career, the Eagles have an option behind Bell (rookie Charles Scott) in case he gets banged up again. Fullback Leonard Weaver has been told that he won't see as many carries this year as he had last season, but he'll still be relied on as a receiver out of the backfield. |

Eagles | Mike Bell expected to be No. 2 RB Fri Jun 11, 01:22 PM
Philadelphia Eagles RB Mike Bell is expected to win the team's primary running back job during training camp, according to Jeff McLane, of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Footballguys view: The Eagles signed Bell to give them a power option behind LeSean McCoy. Bell also has a nose for the end zone, and may be a goalline specialist for the Eagles this year. He's had trouble staying healthy throughout his career because of his reckless running style, so rookie Charles Scott may have to take over for him at some point during the year. |

Eagles | Fewer carries for Weaver with Bell in town? Sun Jun 6, 04:42 PM
Les Bowen, from the Philadelphia Daily News, reports Eagles FB Leonard Weaver commented on Mike Bell. "[Bell] and [LeSean] McCoy back there is going to be a great duo. Maybe sprinkle me in a little bit. Those guys are going to be the workhorses." Weaver likes what he has seen of Bell, he said. "I think he's doing great out there. He's learning very fast," Weaver said. "He's able to come out and be explosive and his ability is taking over without [Bell] having to think about what he has to do. It's tough when you haven't been in a West Coast offense. It makes it difficult sometimes. But he came in early, right away after the Super Bowl. He got in the playbook, and has been able to perform, so he looks great out there."
Footballguys view: Mike Bell has constantly battled through injury during his pro career, so the Eagles may be forced to get Weaver more carries than it seems right now. Philadelphia also drafted RB Charles Scott out of LSU, and he could be a perfect replacement for Mike Bell as the team's power back. |

Eagles | RB Bell back at practice Tue Jun 1, 07:07 PM
Les Bowen, from the Philadelphia Daily News, reports via Twitter that RB Mike Bell has returned to practice after missing last week due to a hamstring injury.
Footballguys view: The Eagles signed Bell away from New Orleans so he could give them a power complement to second-year RB LeSean McCoy. Bell runs with authority, but has no regard for his body and has been constantly dinged up throughout his career. We'll be surprised if he makes it through 16 games fully healthy. |

Philadelphia Eagles RB Mike Bell (hamstring) tweaked a hamstring during the team's practice Monday, May 24, and will sit a few days, reports Jordan Raanan, of the CSNPhiladelphia.
Footballguys view: Mike Bell has always battled nagging injuries throughout his career with the Denver Broncos and New Orleans Saints. Now that he's with the Eagles it looks like more of the same. The Eagles are likely to be very careful with him so the injury doesn't linger. Bell is expected to complement RB LeSean McCoy, and bring the Eagles more power to their running game. |

Saints | Will not match offer to M. Bell Tue Mar 23, 09:59 PM
Adam Schefter, of ESPN.com, reports the New Orleans Saints will not match the offer sheet that restricted free-agent RB Mike Bell signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, which officially makes Bell a member of the Eagles.
Footballguys view: The Eagles get the big power back they've been after in Mike Bell who will play a complementary role behind LeSean McCoy. Bell could also be a factor for the Eagles when they get near the endzone, and might be a TD vulture for Philadelphia. |

Jeff McLane, of the Philadelphia Inquirer, reports there is only an "outside chance" that the New Orleans Saints will match the offer made by the Philadelphia Eagles to restricted free-agent RB Mike Bell, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

NFL | Several teams interested in Bell Sat Mar 6, 06:28 PM
Adam Caplan, of Scout.com, reports the Seattle Seahawks, Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles are showing interest in New Orleans Saints restricted free-agent RB Mike Bell.
Footballguys view: The Eagles are looking for a power complementary back to go along with LeSean McCoy and FB Leonard Weaver. The Browns could use a bigger back to go along with Jerome Harrison, and the Seahawks have to add more size to their backfield because Julius Jones and Justin Forsett are not big backs. Bell isn't the most dynamic runner in the league, but could have value as the power back in a RBBC. |
