Titans | Jackie Battle in good shape to make team    Tue Jul 15, 12:07 AM

Tennessee Titans RB Jackie Battle is expected to make the 53-man roster, according to Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean. Wyatt believes Battle will be the team's starting fullback.

Footballguys view: Battle can do a little bit of everything. He's a running back/fullback 'tweener who can run in between the tackles and is a decent receiving option out of the backfield. Battle may get more of an opportunity this year if Shonn Greene struggles to stay healthy or is cut.

Titans | Collin Mooney on roster bubble    Mon Jun 30, 04:38 PM

Tennessee Titans FB Collin Mooney may not make the team's final roster. RB Jackie Battle is being given the opportunity to double as a running back and fullback, and it is still to be determined how much a fullback will be featured under head coach Ken Whisenhunt.

Footballguys view: Mooney is a good blocker and receiver out of the backfield, but fullbacks are the dinosaurs of the NFL. We'd be surprised to see him make much of an impact even if he does make the 53-man roster.

Titans | Jackie Battle re-signs    Tue Feb 25, 08:26 AM

The Tennessee Titans re-signed RB Jackie Battle to a one-year deal. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Footballguys view: Battle will continue to give the team veteran depth. We'll see if Chris Johnson returns in 2014, or if the team decides to go with a running game led by Shonn Greene or a yet-to-be-determined rookie.

Titans | Jackie Battle expected to be fine    Tue Oct 15, 01:00 AM

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said Monday, Oct. 14, that RB Jackie Battle (neck) should be able to play in Week 7. Battle was active in Week 6, but only as an emergency option with RB Shonn Greene (knee) inactive.

Footballguys view: Battle will go back to playing behind Greene going forward. The Titans expect to get Greene back this week. He'll be the primary backup and short-yardage back for the team behind starter Chris Johnson.

Titans | Jackie Battle could see decreased snaps    Mon Oct 7, 05:40 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Jackie Battle could see his snaps decrease once RB Shonn Greene (knee) returns from his knee surgery.

Titans | Jackie Battle doing well    Sun Aug 11, 11:37 AM

Tennessee Titans RB Jackie Battle has performed well during training camp and is competing for the third-down back role.

Footballguys view: Battle impressing in August sounds about right. He'll work as the team's third RB behind Chris Johnson and Shonn Greene. Battle has little fantasy value in this role.

Titans | Two sign, two released    Wed Jul 24, 05:43 PM

The Tennessee Titans have signed RB Jackie Battle (Chargers) and TE DeMarco Cosby (Packers). Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also waived RB Alvester Alexander and QB Nathan Enderle.

Footballguys view: Battle comes in to give the team insurance as a power back behind Shonn Greene. We're not expecting much from him even if he does get a chance at a few carries.

Chargers | Norv Turner mum on RB situation    Wed Dec 19, 06:39 PM

San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner didn't reveal his plans at running back in Week 16 after RB Ryan Mathews (clavicle) was placed on the Injured Reserve. 'Well, we've got a chance to get Ronnie Brown back' Turner said. 'Jackie Battle will get a chance to play. And Brink (Curtis Brinkley ) played some yesterday, though I don't know that he would play on third down. And we'll probably add Edwin Baker to the 53-man roster. I don't know that he would be active, but we'd have to see where Ronnie Brown is.'

Footballguys view: We'll see the Chargers use a RBBC for the rest of the year. Battle, Brinkley, and Brown will split carries and receptions out of the backfield. This is not a situation fantasy owners can find value in.

Chargers | Jackie Battle to see action    Wed Dec 19, 08:51 AM

San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner said RB Jackie Battle will get a chance to play in Week 16, and appeared to favor him over RB Curtis Brinkley.

Footballguys view: We're not relying on any of the Chargers RBs now that Ryan Mathews is out for the year. Battle or Brinkley should only be considered as desperation flex plays in week 16.

Chargers | Curtis Brinkley leads way    Sun Dec 16, 11:14 PM

Chargers | Norv Turner won't commit to starting RB    Fri Oct 5, 07:11 PM

San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner said he won't know who will start at running back between RBs Ryan Mathews and Jackie Battle until the first play of the game in Week 5 against the New Orleans Saints. 'It's not a big deal. One had 14 carries and one had 15 carries, and if we can get that done again, it'll be outstanding,' Turner said.

Footballguys view: Playing mind games with Ryan Mathews may not be the best idea for the Chargers here. Mathews is much more talented than Battle but the Chargers will continue to use both. Battle is essentially playing the role that FB Mike Tolbert did last season.

Chargers | Jackie Battle listed as No. 1 RB    Wed Oct 3, 03:22 PM

San Diego Chargers RB Jackie Battle is listed as the starting running back over RB Ryan Mathews in the team's depth chart but a team spokesperson said that is only because Battle started in Week 4.

Footballguys view: The team still has confidence in Mathews and it likely will not take long before Mathews is listed as the starter again.

Chargers | Ryan Mathews sees less time in Week 4     Mon Oct 1, 01:04 PM

San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews did not start in the team's Week 4 win, as RB Jackie Battle started the game. Mathews did not play at all in the third quarter, and he had just four carries by the start of the fourth quarter. However, he was featured in the fourth with 10 carries for 60 yards, in addition to an eight-yard reception. Head coach Norv Turner said after the game he has 'great trust' in Mathews.

Footballguys view: Nice spin here from coach Turner. Battle is a capable backup but his natural talent isn't on the same level as Mathews. We think against the Saints 32nd ranked run defense Mathews could have a huge day in week 5.

Chargers | Jackie Battle scores twice    Sun Sep 30, 05:06 PM

San Diego Chargers RB Jackie Battle rushed for 39 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries in Week 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs. He also caught four passes for 42 yards and one touchdown in the game.

Footballguys view: Ryan Mathews was benched early for a fumble last week in a bizarre move. Battle was ineffective except on his short yardage carries, which raises the specter of Battle continuing to play a role around the goal line a la Mike Tolbert. Battle is worth a pickup, but his talent is marginal.

Chargers | Ronnie Brown might start in Week 1    Fri Sep 7, 09:12 PM

San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews (clavicle) appears to be targeting a Week 2 return, so RB Ronnie Brown is likely to get the start in his team debut in Week 1 against the Oakland Raiders Monday, Sept. 10. RBs Jackie Battle and Curtis Brinkley are also in the mix.

Footballguys view: Brown is still only a flex play after the way he looked last year with Philadelphia. Brinkley is probably a better back now, but he was hurt in the preseason. Le'Ron McClain could also figure into the mix with his prowess in short yardage. The Chargers backfield is not a place to look for safe production this week.

Chargers | Trio of RBs to get long look    Fri Aug 10, 11:05 PM

San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner said Friday, Aug. 10, that he did not anticipate the team bringing in a running back with RB Ryan Mathews (clavicle) sidelined four to six weeks. That means RBs Jackie Battle, Curtis Brinkley, Ronnie Brown and FB Le'Ron McClain are likely to shoulder the load during the remaining preseason games.

Footballguys view: Brown is the most versatile of the group, but he's not been impressive in recent years. McClain hasn't received a significant workload in a few years but is an effective between the tackles runner.

Chargers | Curtis Brinkley outshines Jackie Battle    Wed Aug 1, 01:33 AM

San Diego Chargers RB Curtis Brinkley had a strong practice Tuesday, July 31, and outshined RB Jackie Battle. Brinkley has reportedly looked better during training camp, as he tries to hold off Battle for a roster spot.

Footballguys view: Brinkley was outstanding in relief during the Monday night loss to Kansas City last year. If the Chargers are smart, they'll see that he's better than Ronnie Brown in addition to Battle, and make him the primary backup running back.

Chargers | See triple value in Jackie Battle    Fri Jul 20, 11:58 PM

San Diego Chargers RB Jackie Battle is viewed as a 'triple value' to general manager A.J. Smith. 'We've been talking to Jackie Battle for a while. We think he's an outstanding player,' Smith said. 'He's been added for depth. We feel he has triple value. He is an outstanding special teamer. He's also a good running back and can help us at fullback.'

Chargers | Jackie Battle agrees to terms    Fri Jul 20, 05:40 PM

The San Diego Chargers have agreed to terms with free-agent RB Jackie Battle (Chiefs) on a one-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Battle joins Ronnie Brown and seventh-round pick Edwin Baker as offseason additions to the team's running back corps. Only one of the three of them and 2011 third-stringer Curtis Brinkley is likely to make the team with fullback LeRon McClain also able to be a backup ball carrier.

Chargers | Likely will sign veteran RB    Sat May 19, 03:01 PM

The San Diego Chargers likely will sign a veteran free-agent running back this offseason to add depth at the position but are willing to wait until players are willing to accept the veteran minimum.

Footballguys view: The Chargers could look for help from veterans like Cadillac Williams or Jackie Battle, but are in no hurry to add another back.

NFL | Jackie Battle not getting much interest    Fri May 18, 03:38 PM

Free-agent RB Jackie Battle (Chiefs) has not received much interest from team since the early stages of free agency.

Footballguys view: Not a surprise here. Battle is an average talent as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. Running Back is a young man's position and Battle may have to wait for injuries in training camp before he gets a call.

Chargers | Jackie Battle visits    Wed Mar 21, 12:20 PM

The San Diego Chargers hosted free-agent RB Jackie Battle (Chiefs) Tuesday, March 20. He met with team personnel and toured the team's facilities. He is a candidate to join the mix as a backup behind starting tailback Ryan Mathews.

Footballguys view: Battle could have a high-potential value as Mathews backup, but he didn't show much outside of one game last year for Kansas City.

Chargers | Jackie Battle might be targeted    Sat Mar 17, 01:41 AM

Chargers | Mike Tolbert may force team's hand    Fri Mar 16, 01:15 AM

The San Diego Chargers are closing in on the point of no return with free-agent RB Mike Tolbert. The team wants to know if Tolbert will return or not. If he doesn't, the team may look at free-agent RB Jackie Battle (Chiefs) shortly. Re-signing Tolbert is the team's first option, but they may turn their attention toward other veteran free-agent running backs if Tolbert doesn't seem like he will return soon.

Chiefs | Jackie Battle expected to return    Sun Feb 26, 05:51 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to re-sign impending free-agent RB Jackie Battle this offseason.

Footballguys view: Battle showed last year that he could be an effective RB when injuries strike in front of him on the depth chart. He's also a decent receiving option out of the backfield.

Chiefs | Jackie Battle to test free agency    Wed Feb 22, 05:48 PM

Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent RB Jackie Battle said he will test free agency this offseason because he wants a bigger role in an offense.

Footballguys view: Battle will be lucky to get a backup RB job. He had a few moments last year, but they will probably be the best moments of his career.

  Chiefs | A possibility for BenJarvus Green-Ellis?    Wed Feb 15, 08:14 AM

New England Patriots impending free-agent RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis would be a good fit for the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs will likely be looking for a running back to pair with RB Jamaal Charles (knee), who is coming back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Impending free-agent RB Thomas Jones likely won't be brought back and while RB Jackie Battle likely could have a future in Kansas City, an upgrade may be needed.

Footballguys view: Scott Pioli knows Green-Ellis well from his time in New England, so this is a good connection to draw. The Chiefs will be active at RB in the draft and free agency one way or the other.

Chiefs | Jackie Battle lands on IR    Sat Dec 31, 08:18 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs placed RB Jackie Battle (foot) on the Injured Reserve list Saturday, Dec. 31, and they promoted RB Shaun Draughn from the practice squad.

Footballguys view: Without Battle in the lineup the Chiefs will use more Thomas Jones and Dexter McCluster against the Broncos. We could even see FB Le'Ron McClain get a few touches as a short-yardage and goalline runner.
