The Washington Post reports Pittsburgh Steelers QB Charlie Batch will start in the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 22, replacing injured QB Ben Roethlisberger (Achilles').

  Steelers | Dixon could overtake Batch    Sat Jul 18, 11:18 AM

Mike Wilkening, of Pro Football Weekly, reports that he is hearing that Pittsburgh QB Dennis Dixon has a strong chance to overtake Charlie Batch to backup starter Ben Roethlisberger in 2009.

Our view: It looks like the Steelers have finally broken a strong of poor 5th round QB choices that included Tee Martin and Omar Jacobs. Dixon would be a very intriguing fantasy QB if he got on the field because of his excellent running ability.

  Steelers | Russell release was for cap room    Thu Apr 23, 10:28 AM

John Harris, of The Tribune-Review, reports the Pittsburgh Steelers director of football operations Kevin Colbert said the team previously released RB Gary Russell because they needed the salary cap room to re-sign QB Charlie Batch. Russell, as reported, was claimed by the Cincinnati Bengals.

John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports the Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed unrestricted free-agent QB Charlie Batch to a one-year deal worth $895,000, according to a source. Batch will also receive a $50,000 signing bonus.
