NFL | Charlie Batch not retiring Sun May 19, 03:47 PM
Free-agent QB Charlie Batch (Steelers) said he is not ruling out playing for a team this season.
Footballguys view: Batch may not get a spot on a roster for training camp, but will be on team's speed dial in case of emergency. He can provide a team with solid veteran depth and be a spot starter if injuries strike at the top of the depth chart. |

Steelers | Not ruling out Charlie Batch return Sun Mar 17, 03:29 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said the team is not ruling out the possibility of re-signing free-agent QB Charlie Batch even though they signed QB Bruce Gradkowski.
Footballguys view: Batch is a good backup and would be a welcome fit as the team's third-string QB. |

Steelers | Charlie Batch expected to return Thu Feb 28, 02:22 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent QB Charlie Batch said he expects to re-sign with the team this offseason and has not received any indication that the team does not want him back.
Footballguys view: Batch is a solid backup QB who has proven capable of stepping in as an emergency starter and performing well. |

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger has to prove he's ready Wed Dec 5, 07:31 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder, ribs) is capable of playing in practice this week before the team starts him in Week 14. Tomlin won't have reservations about going with QB Charlie Batch if Roethlisberger isn't ready. Tomlin said Batch will see the majority of first-team repetitions in practice this week.
Footballguys view: The team is moving forward as if Batch is going to start this week. Against the Chargers, even if Roethlisberger plays, the Steelers should dominate with their ground game. That could lead to limited numbers for the passing game. |

Steelers | Planning around Charlie Batch Tue Dec 4, 01:30 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said the team is currently planning for Week 14 around QB Charlie Batch.
Footballguys view: It's the best way for the team to approach the situation with Ben Roethlisberger's playing status unclear. Big Ben could be back soon but we'll have to see if he can resume practicing at some point during the week. |

Steelers | Charlie Batch leads comeback Sun Dec 2, 11:14 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Charlie Batch completed 25 of his 36 pass attempts for 276 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the Week 13 game against the Baltimore Ravens. Batch was impressive in the fourth quarter and overtime, engineering a game-tying drive and TD throw to TE Heath Miller, and then setting his team up for the game-winning field goal in overtime.
Footballguys view: Batch led an unbelievably gutsy comebacker with a game that almost as good as his performance against the Browns last week was bad. Ben Roethlisberger might return against the Chargers next week, but if he doesn't the Steelers receivers look like more viable fantasy plays with this Batch. |

Steelers | Winless against rivals with Ben Roethlisberger out Fri Nov 30, 10:00 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) was officially ruled out for the Week 13 game against the Baltimore Ravens, which is bad news for the visitors. The Steelers are 0-6 against the Ravens when Roethlisberger doesn't start. QB Charlie Batch is 0-2 in his career against the Ravens.
Footballguys view: What's amazing about that stat is that the Ravens have faced the Steelers six times with Roethlisberger on the sidelines. Roethlisberger has only missed 12 games in his career. |

Ravens | Also preparing for Ben Roethlisberger in Week 13 Thu Nov 29, 09:28 AM
The Baltimore Ravens are not certain who will start at quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 13, so they are preparing for QB Charlie Batch and QB Ben Roethlisberger (rib, shoulder). 'We really don't care who lines up at quarterback,' SS Bernard Pollard said. 'For us, it's a game that's going to be physical. They're going to try to win whoever's under center. If Ben plays, I know what kind of competitor he is. This guy is probably one of the strongest quarterbacks in the National Football League and one of the most competitive, him and Philip Rivers. But when it's all said and done, whoever lines up, lines up. We have our own situation to take care of. We really don't care.'

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger highly unlikely for Week 13 Wed Nov 28, 10:21 AM
A source close to Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (rib, shoulder) said he would be 'shocked' if Roethlisberger played in Week 13 and expects him to miss one more game. QB Charlie Batch is expected to start this week. According to the source, it's not a 'pain tolerance' issue with Roethlisberger; it's a question of how well he can perform with his injuries.
Footballguys view: Bad news for the Steelers here. Without Roethlisberger they'll be starting veteran Charlie Batch at QB. Traveling to Baltimore is always a tough place to play and it will be difficult to recommend any of the Steelers receiving weapons without Big Ben. |

Steelers | Have confidence in Charlie Batch Wed Nov 28, 08:39 AM
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said he has not lost confidence in QB Charlie Batch despite his poor performance in Week 12. 'Just his body of work, not only that singular performance. Just his body of work, not only through this season on the practice field and in training camp and in preseason settings, but what he's done since he's been here,' Tomlin said. 'He's a capable, veteran guy, one that the guys believe in, one that we know is capable of providing a winning-type performance for us. That didn't occur on Sunday, but he wasn't alone.'
Footballguys view: The Steelers can have confidence in the veteran QB but fantasy owners shouldn't. Downgrade all Steelers skill position players (even the RBs) with Batch under center. |

Steelers | Charlie Batch preparing for another start Tue Nov 27, 07:51 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Charlie Batch is preparing this week for a second straight start against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 13. However, QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder, ribs), who remains in some amount of pain, threw for the first time Monday, Nov. 26, and will be evaluated the entire week. Head coach Mike Tomlin said Roethlisberger won't play 'unless he shows us he's capable.'
Footballguys view: There's a chance that Roethlisberger could be back this week for an all important game against the Ravens. However, we won't know about the QB situation until later in the week. If Roethlisberger can return to practice then he may be a game time decision for week 13. |

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Charlie Batch completed 20 of his 34 pass attempts for 199 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions in the Week 12 game against the Cleveland Browns.
Footballguys view: Batch was horrendous, which may force the Steelers to ask Ben Roethlisberger to come back next week whether he is ready or not. The Steelers season is slipping away, and no one in their offense is worth starting until Roethlisberger returns. |

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder, rib) could dress as the emergency quarterback for Week 12; however, for now the team will likely go with QB Brian Hoyer as the backup to QB Charlie Batch.

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that QB Charlie Batch will start in Week 12. Batch has a 5-2 record in subbing for Ben Roethlisberger (ribs) through the years.

Steelers | Charlie Batch re-signed Mon Apr 16, 12:50 PM
The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Monday, April 16, they have re-signed free-agent QB Charlie Batch to a one-year contract. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are interested in re-signing QBs Byron Leftwich and Charlie Batch as well as RB Mewelde Moore this offseason.
Footballguys view: With Dennis Dixon moving on we think both Batch and Leftwich will return. Moore could help fill the void left by starting RB Rashard Mendenhall. A knee injury suffered at the end of last year may force Mendenhall to begin the 2012 season on the PUP list. |

Steelers | Charlie Batch likely the No. 2 QB Tue Aug 30, 10:51 AM
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Charlie Batch is the likely candidate to be the team's backup quarterback following the injury to QB Byron Leftwich (arm). Tomlin gave QB Ben Roethlisberger a day off practice Monday, Aug. 29, and split the repetitions between Batch and QB Dennis Dixon.
