NFL | Gary Barnidge looking to play in 2018    Thu Feb 22, 04:36 PM

Free-agent TE Gary Barnidge (Browns) said plans to play in 2018 and will look for the right opportunity during free agency. He said he received interest this past season but did not like the offers from teams.

Footballguys view: It was kind of weird he didn't play last season, and it's odd he would sit out if he had any chance to play. Could those offers have been worse than being stuck in Cleveland from a situation standpoint? Or was the money awful? Players play, though. So it's strange he didn't end up on the field. We think he has a lot of talent, but something here seems off.

Texans | Gary Barnidge not a fit in Houston    Fri Sep 15, 07:47 PM

Free-agent TE Gary Barnidge (Browns) worked out for the Houston Texans on Friday, Sept. 15, but he is not expected to sign and doesn't appear to be a fit for the team.

Footballguys view: With C.J. Fiedorowicz on Injured Reserve, the Texans need help at the position. They did activate Evan Baylis off their practice squad but many felt they would add a tight end to the active roster like Barnidge. It's hard to believe Barnidge hasn't latched on with a team yet...or the TE desperate Texans wouldn't sign him.

Texans | Gary Barnidge meeting with Texans    Thu Sep 14, 12:17 PM

Updating an earlier report, free-agent TE Gary Barnidge (Browns) is meeting with the Houston Texans Thursday, Sept. 14.

Footballguys view: We think it could be a nice fit, especially with DeShaun Watson taking over for Tom Savage. How much they use him would make the value murky, but worth watching.

Texans | Gary Barnidge an option for HOU?    Thu Sep 14, 09:24 AM

Free-agent TE Gary Barnidge (Browns) could become a target of the Houston Texans in the coming days, in the opinion of NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Footballguys view: Barnidge was a playmaker for Cleveland, but his market was surprisingly soft. With a young quarterback at the helm, the team might be looking for a reliable tight end with upside. Don't run out to grab him yet, but keep an eye on this rumor.

Jaguars | Gary Barnidge to work out for Jacksonville    Wed Jul 19, 01:27 PM

Free-agent TE Gary Barnidge (Browns) is scheduled to visit and work out for the Jacksonville Jaguars on Tuesday, July 25, according to a league source.

Footballguys view: After trading away Julius Thomas (Dolphins) earlier this year, the Jaguars don't have much at the position. At this time, Mychal Rivera is probably their top pass-catching option at tight end. Barnidge has gotten interest from a few teams, and we expect the veteran to get signed near the start of camp.

Ravens | Gary Barnidge hasn't received Ravens call    Fri Jul 7, 11:05 AM

Free-agent TE Gary Barnidge (Browns) said the Baltimore Ravens haven't called him yet.

Footballguys view: The Ravens have lost Dennis Pitta to injury and Darren Waller to suspension. Ben Watson is coming back from an achilles tear, Crockett Gillmore is coming back from two surgeries and Maxx Williams is recovering from a rare knee surgery. The team needs help at tight end, but it doesn't seem like Barnidge is in their plans. They could change those plans when they get a better idea of where their remaining tight ends are at.

Ravens | Gary Barnidge an option for Ravens?    Fri Jun 30, 07:33 PM

Free-agent TE Gary Barnidge (Browns) could be an option for the Baltimore Ravens after the Ravens lost TE Darren Waller for the season, in the opinion of The Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec.

Footballguys view: Barnidge is just waiting for the right opportunity. We could see him winding up with the Ravens, or a team like the Broncos. Waller wasn't going to be a big part of the passing game in Baltimore, so it's not like Barnidge is a 'must add' for the Ravens.

Bills | Buffalo could pursue Gary Barnidge    Sat Jun 10, 01:16 PM

Free-agent TE Gary Barnidge (Browns) could be an option for the Buffalo Bills if he is willing to accept the veteran minimum, in the opinion of BuffaloBills.com's Chris Brown.

Footballguys view: Starting tight end Charles Clay made it through 15 games last year but he's got chronic knee problems. Coach Sean McDermott said the Bills are "concerned with Charles (Clay's) knee situation." They'll take it easy on Clay and have their eye out for talent at the position that could help. Barnidge is a big-bodied receiver who would be an upgrade over Nick O'Leary or Logan Thomas.

NFL | Gary Barnidge awaiting starting chance    Thu Jun 1, 10:06 AM

Free-agent TE Gary Barnidge (Browns) hasn't signed with a team because he's holding out to land a starting spot.

Footballguys view: Barnidge showed he can play and play very well, so we're not shocked. Someone will probably get hurt in the next few months, and we'll see some movement then. However, it is impossible to know his fantasy value until he lands on a team as there are too many variables otherwise.

Broncos | Gary Barnidge speaks with Denver    Tue May 30, 12:28 PM

Free-agent TE Gary Barnidge (Browns) recently spoke with the Denver Broncos and did the same earlier with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He has already reportedly visited the Buffalo Bills, according to Sirius XM NFL Radio.

Footballguys view: Barnidge would be an upgrade for the Broncos. They have Mike McCoy running the show on offense, and the two have a history together from their days with the Panthers. Barnidge has a bit of interest and should find a home before the start of training camp.

NFL | Gary Barnidge has talked to multiple teams     Mon May 22, 04:01 PM

Free-agent TE Gary Barnidge (Browns) has been contacted by the Jacksonville Jaguars and Denver Broncos.

Footballguys view: Good ole "big play" Barnidge is still looking for a new team, but he doesn't need to be in any hurry. Barnidge had a career year in 2015 with the Browns, collection 79 passes for 1,043 yards and nine touchdowns. Last year his numbers weren't the same (55-612-2) but the offense was atrocious and the QB play left a lot to be desired. With the right team, Barnidge could be an effective starter and certainly a fantasy relevant player.

NFL | Gary Barnidge may talk with JAX, CAR    Wed May 3, 08:13 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent TE Gary Barnidge (Browns) may meet with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Carolina Panthers.

Footballguys view: Barnidge could be an interesting fit for either team, though he might make more hay from a fantasy standpoint in Jacksonville as he would have less competition for touches at tight end. In Carolina he would be firmly behind Greg Olsen.

NFL | Gary Barnidge has more visits set up    Wed May 3, 12:23 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent TE Gary Barnidge (Browns) has two more visits planned for next week after visiting Buffalo Bills on Wednesday, May 3.

Footballguys view: 'Big Play' Barnidge is getting quite a bit of interest since being cut by the Browns...and for good reason. He had a down season in 2016, but that has more to do with the inept nature of the Browns offense. The Bills would be a good fit for him, but he may want to explore all options before committing to a new team in 2017.

Bills | Gary Barnidge visiting Bills    Wed May 3, 08:54 AM

Free-agent TE Gary Barnidge (Browns) is visiting the Buffalo Bills Wednesday, May 3.

Footballguys view: Barnidge would be a nice fit for the Bills. New offensive coordinator Rick Dennison utilizes two-TE sets quite often, and Barnidge would give the team another quality player at the position to go along with Charles Clay. He does have other interviews set up next week, so a decision may have to wait until he explores all options.

Cleveland Browns TE Gary Barnidge caught three passes for 23 yards against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 9.

Browns | Gary Barnidge questionable for Week 6    Fri Oct 14, 07:14 PM

Cleveland Browns TE Gary Barnidge (forearm, hip) was limited during practice Friday, Oct. 14, and is listed as questionable for Week 6.

Footballguys view: Barnidge has been steady despite the numerous quarterback changes in Cleveland. He's a solid TE1 even with Cody Kessler at quarterback, but as long as Barnidge stays healthy, he'll be due for a boost in value with Josh McCown returns. McCown pushed him to elite TE1 numbers while he was in last year.

Cleveland Browns TE Gary Barnidge caught five passes for 76 yards Sunday, Oct. 9, in a 33-13 loss to the New England Patriots.

Footballguys view: Barnidge is remaining a solid low TE1 despite the Browns having five different quarterbacks take snaps from center this year. He could get back to mid TE1 levels when Josh McCown returns, which could be soon.

Browns | Gary Barnidge more involved    Sun Sep 18, 06:00 PM

Cleveland Browns TE Gary Barnidge caught four passes for 37 yards against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2.

Footballguys view: Barnidge's value didn't exactly spike with the return of Josh McCown but his outlook is much better against the Miami defense that let Martellus Bennett run free today. He's still as precarious as McCown's health in our lineups next week.

Browns | Gary Barnidge headed for big game?    Sat Sep 17, 12:45 AM

Cleveland Browns TE Gary Barnidge faces the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2, and in two games against Baltimore last season, he caught a combined 15 passes for 230 yards and a touchdown. QB Josh McCown started both games.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners who have TE Gary Barnidge should be excited now that McCown is in at QB. The two have a strong connection, and we should see that more than a few times on Sunday. We like Barnidge as a high-end TE1 in Week 2.

Browns | Gary Barnidge has case of drops    Sun Sep 11, 08:36 PM

Cleveland Browns TE Gary Barnidge dropped two passes in Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles. He ended up with no receptions or offensive stats.

Footballguys view: Barnidge is looking like the odd man out in the Browns offense with Robert Griffin III. He had great success with Josh McCown last year, and Griffin is already hurt, so if you can keep Barnidge or otherwise have misgivings about your other tight end, you might want to hold the top five tight end in 2015.

Browns | Gary Barnidge on track for Week 1    Tue Aug 2, 05:44 PM

Updating an ongoing story, Cleveland Browns TE Gary Barnidge (hernia) is on track to play in Week 1 at the Philadelphia Eagles, according to Browns tight ends coach Greg Seamon. Barnidge's work ethic was praised by Seamon, who noted Cleveland has a plan to get the tight end ready for opening day.

Footballguys view: We'll see how Barnidge meshes with likely starting QB Robert Griffin III. If they establish strong chemistry, we could see Barnidge working out as a low-end TE1 in 2016. Currently, Barnidge is coming off the board at TE9 (9.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Browns | Gary Barnidge may be limited    Tue Jul 26, 07:09 PM

Cleveland Browns TE Gary Barnidge (hernia) could be limited for the start of training camp after undergoing hernia surgery in June. He did pass his physical, however.

Footballguys view: Barnidge exploded onto the scene last year, and it will be interesting to see in this new offense how productive he can be. In 2015, Barnidge finished the year as the 3rd-best fantasy TE. This year, he's getting drafted a bit lower than that as fantasy owners are weary of the Browns offense (and QB situation). Barnidge has a current ADP of TE8 (8.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Cleveland Browns TE Gary Barnidge (hernia) said he will be ready for training camp despite undergoing sports hernia surgery last week.

Browns | Gary Barnidge undergoes surgery    Thu Jun 2, 10:31 AM

Cleveland Browns TE Gary Barnidge (hernia) underwent sports hernia surgery Thursday, June 2, and will be sidelined until at least the start of training camp, according to head coach Hue Jackson.

Footballguys view: Barnidge was a surprise fantasy force last season, so maybe this will help him back under the radar for smart owners to take advantage of. We see him as a borderline TE1/TE2 but will watch both his recovery and the development of the Browns passing offense with Robert Griffin III and the 400 or so new wide receivers.

Browns | Gary Barnidge could set record    Sat Jan 2, 10:31 PM

Cleveland Browns TE Gary Barnidge has nine touchdowns this season, and he needs one more to set a new franchise single-season record for touchdown catches by a tight end.

Footballguys view: Barnidge has had the rare late career breakout in his age 30 season. He got a modest guaranteed amount on the extension he signed three weeks ago, but he should still be considered a TE1 for next season no matter who the Browns quarterback is.

Cleveland Browns TE Gary Barnidge caught five passes for 84 yards and one touchdown against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 14.

Footballguys view: Barnidge is transcending the quarterback play and even elevating it with his excellent work in the middle of the field. He's a good play next week against a Seattle defense that can have trouble defending the tight end.
