Rams | Stedman Bailey hopes to return    Wed Feb 10, 02:15 AM

Los Angeles Rams WR Stedman Bailey (head) posted on social media that he has been moving around in the hospital, as he recovers from two gunshot wounds to the head. He intends to resume his NFL career, but indicated doctors feel otherwise. 'Since that incident, doctors have told me that they don't think I'll be able to make a return to the NFL,' Bailey said Tuesday, Feb. 9. 'When somebody tells me that they don't think I can do something, you know I'll do everything that I can to prove them wrong.'

Footballguys view: We're just glad Bailey is okay. This situation could have turned out much differently--and tragically--for the young wide receiver. As a fantasy prospect, Bailey has a cloudy future as the Rams aren't even set at QB yet.

However, based on what he's done over the last 10 days, he may surprise everybody.'

Footballguys view: Football doesn't matter at this point. Bailey just needs to concentrate on getting healthy and getting back to full strength. Football will be there for him when he's ready to return.

St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens is scheduled to have a base salary of $1.574 million with a cap count of $1.698 million.

Footballguys view: The team might deem it too much if Givens is the fifth receiver in a group with WRs Kenny Britt, Brian Quick, Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey. Releasing Givens would save the team $1.574 million.

St. Louis Rams WR Stedman Bailey is expected to practice Wednesday, Sept. 17, and play Week 3 after having his four-game suspension lifted. Bailey's role may be limited during the game.

Rams | Chris Givens falls down depth chart    Mon Aug 18, 02:31 AM

St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens has been surpassed on the depth chart by WRs Kenny Britt, Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey and Brian Quick, and Givens may be a bubble in terms of final roster cuts.

Footballguys view: As a rookie in 2012, Givens was a premiere deep target for the Rams and his career looked promising. Say it with me everybody--things change pretty quickly around here. It wouldn't shock us to see Givens released by the Rams if he doesn't start performing better in camp and the preseason.

Rams | Happy with current WRs    Wed Jun 11, 12:53 PM

The St. Louis Rams did not select a wide receiver with any of their 12 selections in this year's draft, and head coach Jeff Fisher said they are happy and confident with the group of young receivers they have on their roster. St. Louis ranked 29th in the league in receiving yards last year, 26th in yards per catch and were tied for 20th in receiving touchdowns. WR Tavon Austin came on strong late in his rookie year, and WRs Chris Givens and Brian Quick are expected to do more in their third seasons with QB Sam Bradford coming off an injury. WR Stedman Bailey will miss the first four games of the season due to a suspension, but the team also took a chance on WR Kenny Britt.

Footballguys view: The Rams should be happy with their wide receivers as they've made several moves to upgrade the position through the draft and free agency. Britt has been standing out during minicamp, and he's looking for a fresh start after failing to play up to his potential with the Titans. Austin enters his second season with plenty of experience from his rookie year in 2013. We'll see if he can continue to develop as a pro.

The NFL has suspended St. Louis Rams WR Stedman Bailey four games for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing substances.

St. Louis Rams WR Stedman Bailey was on the field for 11 snaps on offense in Week 9 against the Tennessee Titans, and he snagged his first catch for 12 yards. Bailey also saw 18 snaps on special teams, and recorded a pair of tackles.

Footballguys view: Fellow rookie Tavon Austin is doing next to nothing. We'll see if his college teammate (Bailey) can start to earn a larger role on offense.

Rams | Might only keep five WRs    Tue Aug 27, 12:00 PM

The St. Louis Rams might only keep five wide receivers to start the regular season due to injuries at the tight end position. WRs Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey, Chris Givens, Austin Pettis and Brian Quick are considered the 'big five.' WRs Emory Blake, Nick Johnson and Justin Veltung are believed to be battling for the sixth receiver job.

Footballguys view: The Rams have a strong group of WRs with a unique blend of skill sets. Austin and Givens have incredible speed and can get open with ease. Bailey is a downfield target who does a good job of tracking the ball. Quick is the big receiver and makes for a nice target in the red zone. Pettis has improved his concentration and can make difficult catches.

Rams | Stedman Bailey impressing    Tue Aug 13, 08:14 AM

St. Louis Rams WR Stedman Bailey has had a long string of good practices. He has continued to get open and catch everything thrown his way in team drills against the backup corners.

Footballguys view: Bailey is known as a great downfield target who can track deep passes with ease. He'll help take the top off the defense for QB Sam Bradford. Chris Givens is set to be the team's primary downfield weapon in 2013.

Rams | Familiarity helps two rookie WRs    Tue Jul 23, 11:45 AM

St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher thinks there are plenty of positives drafting WRs Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey, both from the University of West Virginia. 'I couldn't see any negative to it. They know each other, they're good friends, they're roommates, they challenge each other, and they study together,' Fisher said.

Footballguys view: Austin should be able to make an instant impact with the Rams. The team should make him the centerpiece of the passing game. Coming out of college Austin reminded many in the scouting community of Randall Cobb (Packers) because of his quickness and run after the catch ability. Bailey is more of a downfield target and gives the team quality depth at the position.

Rams | Chris Givens, Austin Pettis atop early depth chart    Tue Jul 16, 11:03 PM

St. Louis Rams WRs Chris Givens and Austin Pettis are each listed as projected starters on the team's initial depth chart heading into training camp. WRs Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey and Brian Quick are listed as 'key contributors'.

Footballguys view: Givens is set to be the team's primary downfield target. He has the speed to get on top of the defense in a hurry and tracks the ball well deep. Pettis has been turning heads this offseason but the player we're most excited about is Austin. The rookie is incredibly quick, fast, and agile. He reminded some in the scouting community of Randall Cobb (Packers) because of his ability to score from anywhere on the field. We're expecting Austin to get plenty of work in 2013.

The St. Louis Rams have signed first-round draft choice LB Alec Ogletree, third-round draft choices FS T.J. McDonald and WR Stedman Bailey, C Barrett Jones and fifth-round draft choices CB Brandon McGee and RB Zac Stacy. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Stacy and Bailey are the players to watch here. The Rams are looking for a lead back in their RBBC and that could be Stacy. His game is all about yards after contact and he's known for grinding down opponents. Bailey is a good downfield target with good deep speed and ball tracking ability.

Rams | QB impressed by young WRs    Fri Jun 7, 09:44 PM

St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford said Thursday, June 6, that he has been impressed by the team's young group of wide receivers, and he has already noticed tremendous improvement. 'It's definitely come a long way since two, three weeks ago when we first started with those rookies,' Bradford said. 'I've been really impressed by some of the young guys that we've had - (WR Tavon Austin) and (WR Stedman Bailey) - I though they've done a great job. We're asking them to play a lot of different positions right now. Of course there's still mistakes, but for the most part they've been extremely sharp.'

Footballguys view: Bradford should be excited about this group. Austin and Bailey were a dynamic duo in college at West Virginia and now will get the chance to do that in the pros. Austin is a dynamic player on underneath routes and has incredible run after the catch ability. Bailey is the deep target who can track passes downfield with ease.

Rams | Sam Bradford working with rookie WRs    Thu May 23, 09:03 PM

St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford has been working on routes and throws with WRs Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey during offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: Austin and Bailey were teammates in college at West Virginia and combined for 1,607 yards after the catch in 2012. Austin should be the focal point of the passing game and reminds many of Randall Cobb (Packers) because of his speed and elusiveness. Bailey is a deep target who can track the ball easily on long passes.

NFL | WRs take their shot at 40-yard dash    Sun Feb 24, 08:36 PM

Baylor WR Lanear Sampson and Rutgers WR Mark Harrison posted times of 4.46 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine Sunday, Feb. 23, landing them just outside the Top 10 at their position. Georgia Tavarres King and Arkansas WR Cobi Hamilton managed a time of 4.47 seconds, Lehigh WR Ryan Spadola checked in at 4.48 seconds, while WR Tyrone Goard had a time of 4.50 seconds. Washington State WR Marquess Wilson, Southern California WR Robert Woods and Florida State WR Rodney Smith had times of 4.51 seconds, while Baylor WR Terrance Williams, West Virginia WR Stedman Bailey and Tennessee Tech's Da'Rick Rogers were clocked at 4.52 seconds.

NFL | Stedman Bailey drawing big-time comparison    Fri Feb 15, 11:01 PM

West Virginia WR Stedman Bailey has reportedly stood out during combine training, and he could be the surprise receiver at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. He has drawn comparisons to Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith.

Footballguys view: Most in the scouting community compare him to Smith or Seahawks WR Golden Tate. He doesn't have a big catch radius but makes up for it with sharp 'my ball' mentality and the ability to make difficult catches. Bailey has good hand/eye coordination and consistently catches the ball away from his body. He does have some character concerns after he was cited in January 2012 for stealing over the counter medication. Bailey is considered a third- or fourth-round pick.
