Broncos | Marvin Austin signs    Mon May 5, 12:25 PM

The Denver Broncos signed free-agent DT Marvin Austin (Cowboys) to an undisclosed deal Monday, May 5. He'll compete for a rotational spot on the defensive line.

Footballguys view: Austin gives the team veteran depth on the defensive line. He's bounced around the league since coming into the NFL as a second-round pick by the Giants in 2011. He'll compete to make the final roster in 2014 on a defensive line that is packed with talent.

The Dallas Cowboys have signed free-agent DT Marvin Austin (Dolphins). Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Austin has bounced around the league during his short pro career. He's back in the NFC East, this time with the Cowboys instead of the Giants. Austin is big and disruptive but struggles to make an impact.

Dolphins | Marvin Austin released    Tue Oct 15, 07:58 PM

The Miami Dolphins released DT Marvin Austin Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Footballguys view: That didn't last long. Austin was with the Dolphins for three weeks, and compiled one tackle in two games active. The former 2011 second-round pick has been a huge draft bust, but he may get a few looks on the open market for a defensive line needy team.

Giants | 12 players let go    Sat Aug 31, 07:11 PM

The New York Giants have released QB David Carr, RB Ryan Torain, CB Terrence Frederick, WR Julian Talley, LB Kyle Bosworth, DE Adrian Tracy, DE Adewale Ojomo, DT Marvin Austin, OG Eric Herman, OG Bryant Browning, WR Kevin X. Hardy and WR Marcus Harris.

Footballguys view: Getting rid of Torain is interesting given the fact Andre Brown will be out for some time with a broken leg. Carr was expected to be the primary backup behind Eli Manning but loses out on the job to Curtis Painter. Rookie Ryan Nassib will be the team's third-string developmental QB. Some team should have interest in Carr as veteran depth.

New York Giants DT Marvin Austin and Mike Patterson may be competing for one spot on the final roster.

Giants | Hopeful Marvin Austin will step up    Mon Jul 29, 11:57 PM

New York Giants defensive line coach Robert Nunn is hopeful DL Marvin Austin can step up and make a significant impact in his third year as a pro. 'He's been healthy for the first time. He's never been able to go through a true offseason because of different ailments that he's had,' Nunn said Monday, July 29. 'He's where he needs to be right now, he just can't disappear when the pads come on. He knows what he's got to do, I've spoken to him about it, when the pads come on he's got to produce, when he gets out there under the lights he's got to produce.'

Footballguys view: Austin is huge and has good first step quickness. He can be a disruptive player and create interior pressure on opposing QBs. Austin needs to stay healthy as durability problems have held him back during his pro career.

Giants | David Wilson is franchise's first player born in 1990s    Fri Apr 27, 01:06 AM

New York Giants RB David Wilson becomes the first player in franchise history born in the 1990s. CB Prince Amukamara, DL Marvin Austin, WR Jerrel Jernigan and DL Jason Pierre-Paul were all born in 1989. The Giants have won just two Super Bowls in Wilson's lifetime.

Footballguys view: Wilson gives the World Champion Giants better depth at the RB position. He reminds many in the scouting community of Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles because of his speed and explosive playmaking ability. His selection puts a major dent in the dynasty stock of a guy like Da-Rel Scott.

Giants | Marvin Austin expected to be part of rotation    Sat Mar 3, 01:31 PM

New York Giants DT Marvin Austin may be the fourth defensive tackle on the depth chart next season but is expected to be part of the defensive line rotation during the season.

Footballguys view: Austin missed all of last season due to a pectoral injury. He's a fierce interior pass rusher who can hold up double teams and stuff the run too. The Giants have one of the best D-Line rotations in the NFL and getting Austin back just makes them better.

Footballguys view: Barden will not be able to see the field until week 7 at the earliest. The team has a three week grace period after week 6 to decide whether to activate Barden or put him on season ending Injured Reserve. He still has good upside as a developmental receiver but injuries have wrecked his pro career to this point.

New York Giants DT Marvin Austin (pectoral) likely will miss the 2011 season because of a torn pectoral muscle. He is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair the tear.

Footballguys view: A blow to the Giants defense here. Austin is a very disruptive player with the strength to hold up double teams and the burst to get after the quarterback. Now it looks like he'll miss all of the 2011 season, after missing all of the 2010 season in college because of a suspension.

Giants | Marvin Austin could enter starting lineup early    Fri May 6, 02:47 PM

New York Giants DT Marvin Austin could enter the starting lineup relatively early next season depending on what happens with DTs Barry Cofield and Linval Joseph.

Footballguys view: Austin was a great pick by the Giants and can be quite devastating in a defensive line rotation. He understands leverage, has good functional strength, and plays with a natural violence. The Giants know how to use defensive linemen properly and we expect Austin to make quite a few plays for them this season.
