Packers | Considered some veteran free agent backs    Wed Sep 15, 02:41 AM

The Green Bay Packers considered signing free-agent RB Willie Parker (Redskins), as well as Justin Fargas (Broncos), Kolby Smith (Chiefs) and J.J. Arrington (Eagles), reports Tom Silverstein, of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. However, general manager Ted Thompson viewed them as poor fits for the team's zone running game.

Footballguys view: The Packers now how to find RB talent that fits their system. Dynasty owners should certainly keep an eye on rookie Dimitri Nance.

Broncos | Is Brian Westbrook on the horizon?    Sat Jul 31, 09:55 AM

The Denver Broncos could potentially look to sign free-agent RB Brian Westbrook (Eagles) after the team traded RB J.J. Arrington to the Philadelphia Eagles, according to Bill Williamson, of ESPN.com.

Footballguys view: The Broncos have been showing interest in Westbrook, and he would fill a role that they don't really have a back for right now. If Westbrook is signed, that would be mean a reunion with former teammates Correll Buckhalter and Brian Dawkins.

Broncos | Backing off pursuit of Brian Westbrook    Sat Jun 12, 10:33 AM

Indications from the Denver Broncos' minicamp Friday, June 12, is that the team is softening its pursuit of free-agent RB Brian Westbrook (Eagles), according to Bill Williamson, of ESPN.com. The Broncos are now focused on how third-down RB J.J. Arrington fares in training camp. If Arrington suffers an injury setback or if he doesn't perform well, the team could then see if Westbrook is still available.

Footballguys view: By his own admission Arrington is about 80-85 percent healthy right now. We'll see how he performs in training camp, but by that time Westbrook may have already been signed by the Rams or the Redskins.

Broncos | Arrington '80-85 percent' recovered    Fri Jun 11, 04:19 PM

The Denver Post reports that Broncos RB J.J. Arrington, who is trying to recover knee surgery last year, is getting close to "the feeling that I'm 100 percent." He proclaimed he is now "about 80, 85 percent. I get better every week. Last week I could only run a straight line, this week I can make turns. By training camp, I'll be ready to go."

Footballguys view: The Broncos are reportedly interested in veteran RB Brian Westbrook, and if they signed him it would likely push Arrington off the roster. He's trying to stick around on the roster as a third-down back and kick returner.

Broncos | Arrington back for the Broncos    Sat Jun 5, 07:19 PM

CBSSports.com reports the Broncos got RB J.J. Arrington, a potential third-down option as a pass catcher out of the backfield, back on the practice field Friday.

Footballguys view: The Broncos signed Arrington as a free agent last season, but waived him because of his knee problems. They re-signed him this year and he could play a 'Kevin Faulk' role for the Broncos in 2010. However, there may not be much of an opportunity for him playing behind Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter.

Broncos | Moreno looking for a more complete Year Two    Sun Apr 11, 04:20 PM

Dan Parr, from ProFootballWeekly.com, reports Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno had a productive rookie season, but he didn't perform up to the expectations some had for him and gained only 3.8 yards per carry. His fellow back, Correll Buckhalter, recently said Moreno hit a wall late in the year and will benefit from having a full offseason to prepare after holding out for most of training camp in 2009. We're told Moreno's struggles late didn't have anything to do with conditioning. Observers say he was in good shape. Playing more games than he did during a college season simply took its toll.

Footballguys view: Holding out of training camp really took it's toll on Moreno in the second half of his rookie season. He's a talented runner but simply looked tired towards the end of the year. The Broncos are hopeful Moreno can look like the strong running back he did playing for the Georgia Bulldogs in his second-year.

Broncos | Open to re-signing Arrington at some point    Thu May 28, 07:07 PM

Frank Schwab, of the Colorado Springs Gazette, reports Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels said the team would be open to re-signing unrestricted free-agent RB J.J. Arrington (knee) at some point.

Footballguys view: Knowshon Moreno should be the Broncos receiving back as many people aren't expecting much from Darius Walker. Denver wants to run more in 2009, to help out their new QB and to also help out their rebuilt defense.

Broncos | Arrington needs microfracture surgery    Thu May 28, 09:56 AM

Mike Klis, of The Denver Post, reports free-agent RB J.J. Arrington (knee), who was just released by the Denver Broncos, will need season-ending microfracture surgery on his right knee.

Footballguys view: He has not been able to regain strength in his knee after undergoing offseason arthroscopic knee surgery. Also, Peter King is reporting that the Broncos are only on the hook for $100k of Arrington's $1.8 million dollar signing bonus.

Broncos | Release RB J.J. Arrington    Wed May 27, 08:34 PM

The Broncos today released running back J.J. Arrington after Arrington failed his physical. Arrington, who signed with the team as a free agent from Arizona in March, had knee surgery after the Super Bowl and had been unable to participate so far in the Broncos' organized team activities. Arrington was one of three free-agent tailbacks signed by the Broncos, and the team also drafted running back Knowshon Moreno with its top pick in the draft.

Footballguys view: Listeners to our podcast "The Audible" heard Broncos beat writer Frank Schwab speculate about this 3 weeks ago when the team signed free agent Darius Walker. Schwab indicated that the Broncos may be concerned about Arrington's knee and that's why they signed the former Golden Domer Walker. Listening to our show "The Audible" is just another way that Footballguys.com can give you the edge in your fantasy leagues.

Broncos | Arrington could become third-down specialist    Fri May 1, 01:22 PM

Mike Klis, of The Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos RB J.J. Arrington (knee) could be the team's third-down specialist if he completely recovers from knee surgery.

Footballguys view: This was the image that many had for Arrington when he was signed by Denver. It would be CBuck between the 20's, LaMont Jordan in the red zone, and Arrington on 3rd downs. Head Coach Josh McDaniels has gone out of his way to compliment rookie 1st round draft pick Knowshon Moreno on his pass protection and receiving ability. This calls into question every RBs role in the offense.
