Browns | Quinn expected to start in Week 10 Tue Nov 10, 12:27 PM
Adam Schefter, of ESPN, reports the Cleveland Browns are expected to name QB Brady Quinn the team's starting quarterback for Week 10, according to two sources. The Browns, however, are not making an official announcement regarding their quarterback situation until Wednesday, Nov. 11. One team source said Quinn and QB Derek Anderson were informed of the decision last week, though neither has acknowledged he was informed of head coach Eric Mangini's decision. Another team official said Tuesday, Nov. 10, that he did not have any knowledge of Mangini delivering the news to his quarterbacks. Two other sources said they expected Quinn to be named starter.
| Our view: It's hard to imagine Quinn will play any better than Derek Anderson has been playing, because he faces an angry Ravens team. We're starting to think the best option for the Browns is to go full-time wildcat with Josh Cribbs. |

Browns | Mangini to reveal starting quarterback for Week 10 Wednesday Mon Nov 9, 12:17 PM
CBSSports.com reports Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini said he will speak with QBs Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn soon about which one he will start in Week 10. Mangini will reveal his choice to the media Wednesday, Nov. 11.
| Our view: Quinn played too safe early in the season, and struggled to move the ball when the team was in catch-up mode. Anderson then came in, but outside of one game against the Bengals he failed to impress. The team could decide to go back to Brady Quinn, but with head coach Eric Mangini you just never know. |

Browns | Ratliff will not start Tue Nov 3, 12:29 PM
CBSSports.com reports Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini said QB Brett Ratliff will not get a chance to start at quarterback, even though QBs Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn have both struggled this season.
| Our view: What is it going to take in Cleveland? Brady Quinn is a boring option at quarterback, and he's unwilling to take shots downfield. Brett Ratliff is a gunslinger, and if the Browns gave him an opportunity he might be able to develop his game further. |

Browns | Anderson struggles Week 8 Sun Nov 1, 05:38 PM
The Associated Press reports Cleveland Browns QB Derek Anderson went 6-for-17 for 76 yards and two interceptions in Week 8. He was replaced by QB Brady Quinn late in the fourth quarter.
| Our view: Anderson was again pressured and inconsistent. He threw only one strong pass over the middle to Mohammed Massaquoi, which was fumbled. Both interceptions were poor decisions, the first coming after staring down a receiver over the middle, the second on a pass that should have been thrown away. |

Marla Ridenour, of the Akron Beacon Journal, reports Cleveland Browns QB Derek Anderson will start the team's Week 8 game, according to head coach Eric Mangini.

Browns | No plans to bench Anderson Mon Oct 26, 03:21 PM
Tom Withers, of The Associated Press, reports Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini has no plans to bench QB Derek Anderson in favor of QB Brady Quinn. Anderson has completed just 23 of 70 passes in the last three games.
| Our view: Some people are questioning whether or not this is a financial move because of the escalator clauses in Quinn's contract. Either way, the situation in Cleveland is ugly and their skill players should not be in your starting lineup. |

Browns | Mangini says team will stick with Anderson Tue Oct 13, 12:44 AM
Mary Kay Cabot, of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports that Browns head coach Eric Mangini said Derek Anderson will continue to be the Browns starting QB. Cabot writes that Mangini chalked up some of Anderson's 2-for-17 performance to drops by his receivers. "I'm not sure what the official number was, but it was way too high." Mangini also cited the wind and poor throws by Anderson as contributing causes to Anderson's woeful stat line.
| Our view: Anderson still forces the opposing defense to honor the long pass, and the team clearly plays more competitively when he's in. Keeping Anderson as the starter is the right move. |

Browns | Anderson completes just two passes Week 5 Sun Oct 11, 05:35 PM
The Associated Press reports Cleveland Browns QB Derek Anderson was 2-for-17 for 23 yards with an interception Week 5.

Browns | Derek Anderson to remain the starter Tue Oct 6, 01:28 PM
Aaron Wilson, from National Football Post, reports the Cleveland Browns are satisfied with the work of quarterback Derek Anderson. Enough so that he will remain under center for the immediate future ahead of Brady Quinn, and perhaps longer. "Yeah, I felt really good about what he did," Browns coach Eric Mangini said in remarks distributed by the team. "I thought he played really well. In terms of managing the game, there were some times where he checked a few things and got us into a good play."
| Our view: Anderson kept the Browns in the game against their division rival, and looked to rookie Mohamed Massaquoi early and often. |

Browns | Anderson named the starter Wed Sep 30, 11:30 AM
Mary Kay Cabot, from the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports Derek Anderson will replace Brady Quinn as the starting quarterback Sunday against the Bengals, coach Eric Mangini announced today. Mangini said "giving Derek the opportunity is something I think will help us offensively.'' He said Anderson's performance on third down Sunday in Baltimore -- including 3-of-4 on a field goal drive -- helped him clinch the job. He said he needs to improve on throwing interceptions, after throwing three in Baltimore.
| Our view: Somewhere Braylon Edwards is smiling. Anderson replaced Quinn in the game against the Ravens on Sunday, and moved the offense well - but threw three interceptions. Obviously, Anderson isn't as safe with the football as Brady Quinn is, but he'll make more plays because of his gunslinger playing style. Anderson likes to air it out deep, but needs to remain confident after throwing an ill-advised pass. |

The Associated Press reports Cleveland Browns QB Brady Quinn was 6-for-8 for 34 yards with an interception before getting benched during the team's Week 3 game against the Baltimore Ravens. Quinn was replaced by QB Derek Anderson, who finished 11-for-19 for 92 yards with three interceptions.
| Our view: Quinn was benched after he again failed to generate an extended drive against the Ravens. Anderson looked downfield more often than Quinn, but managed only one scoring drive against three interceptions. Mangini wouldn't commit to next week's starter after the game. |

Browns | WR Edwards struggles to fit in Thu Sep 17, 10:11 AM
Marla Ridenour, from the Akron Beacon Journal, reports now that Brady Quinn has been installed as the Browns' starting quarterback, coach Eric Mangini and offensive coordinator Brian Daboll face a major problem with their No. 1 receiver. Not only does Braylon Edwards have no chemistry with Quinn like he did Derek Anderson, but he also doesn't seem suited for a scheme that Quinn called ''methodical.'' "We're an offense that's going to try to push the ball downfield in a methodical way,'' Quinn said. ''Whether it be through making smart decisions, checks, running the football. . . . Taking what the defense gives us, we're not going to try to force something. We're going to play smart football."
| Our view: The Browns are going to play it safe while Brady Quinn is their quarterback. Quinn struggles with downfield accuracy, and overall doesn't like to challenge a defense deep. This really affects the fantasy value of Braylon Edwards, who thrives off the deep game. If Quinn is benched at some point during the year, and Derek Anderson is named the starter, we could see a resurgence to Braylon Edwards game. Until that happens, proceed with caution when considering the talented wideout for your starting lineup. |

The Browns' coaching staff didn't make a formal announcement to the rest of team, but Mangini said it will be pretty easy for the rest of the team to figure out who the starter is during practice this week.
| Our view: Mangini continues to be secretive here, but we have a feeling that Brady Quinn will be named the starter. Against the Vikings, with the Williams wall intact, it will mean a long day for anyone that takes snaps for the Browns. |

CBSSports.com reports Cleveland Browns QB Derek Anderson and QB Brady Quinn are both sitting out the team's preseason finale Thursday, Sept. 3. There has been no announcement on who will be the starting quarterback for Week 1.
| Our view: This is strange. If head coach Eric Mangini needed to see more to decide the QB competition, he would have played Quinn and/or Anderson. If he had seen enough, he would have named a starter for week 1. No matter how you interpret this, it isn't a good sign for the Browns offense. |

However, Mangini added that the team will not rotate quarterbacks during the season.

Browns | Quarterback battle continues; Quinn does well Sat Aug 29, 10:58 PM
Cleveland Browns QB Brady Quinn hit 11-of-15 passes for 128 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions during the team's preseason game against the Tennessee Titans Saturday, Aug. 29. He is battling for the team's starting quarterback duties with QB Derek Anderson. Anderson hit 7-of-11 passes for 77 yards, without throwing any touchdowns or interceptions during the game.
| Our view: We're calling this one for Quinn. He will be the safer play and he could still develop into a long-term answer at QB. Quinn isn't a great downfield passer, so this could limit Braylon Edwards, but a player like Mike Furrey could emerge as viable end of the bench PPR play because of Quinn's conservative style. |

| Our view: Brady Quinn should start the game against the Titans, but head coach Eric Mangini cautioned not to read too much into that. CBSSports.com reports Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini gave no indication Monday, Aug. 24, as to whether QB Derek Anderson or QB Brady Quinn will start the team's next preseason game.
| Our view: The word is the best quarterback in the third preseason game will get the starting nod to begin the regular season. Cleveland Browns QB Derek Anderson, who is competing with QB Brady Quinn for the starting quarterback job, went 8-for-13 for 130 yards and one interception in the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 22.
| Our view: Anderson continues to make mistakes when throwing the football, his final pass in a 2-minute drill before halftime was high and off the hands of James Davis. Anderson likes to challenge a defense deep, while Brady Quinn is usually safer with his throws, not throwing much past 15 yards. Browns | Mangini mum on a starting QB Wed Aug 19, 03:53 PM
Tony Grossi, from the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, reports Saturday's starting quarterback for the Browns against Detroit will be ... stay tuned. Coach Eric Mangini declined again to name Derek Anderson, whose turn is up, or Brady Quinn, who started in Green Bay, Wis., last weekend. "We'll talk about it at the end of the week," Mangini said. The only thing Mangini did concede was the if a two-minute drill presents itself in the first half, he would give it to Anderson because Quinn had the opportunity to run one against Green Bay.
| Our view: Mangini noted that only 4 reps have separated the two quarterbacks in practice. This is a close race, but Brady Quinn is in the lead. Derek Anderson would have to play with great confidence (and mistake free) if he wants to overtake Quinn as the starter. |

Browns | Mangini will wait to name starting QB Tue Aug 18, 12:50 AM
Marla Ridenour, of the Akron Beacon Journal, reports Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini said he will wait to name a starting quarterback. QB Brady Quinn put the Browns in a position to score 10 points during the team's preseason loss Saturday, Aug. 15, while QB Derek Anderson failed to complete a pass. Mangini said, "At this point it's really too early to make an assessment on both guys. I did like some of the things Brady did while he was in there. D.A. didn't get as many reps. It's too early to make that 'Here's where we are right now' comment."

Browns | Quinn takes the lead in QB competition Mon Aug 17, 02:39 PM
Tony Grossi, from the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports Brady Quinn showed enough in the first preseason game to surpass Derek Anderson, who had a slight edge through two weeks of training camp practices. Game reps should trump "no-touch" practice time at half speed. It's not over, but Anderson is running out of time and now needs a big response against Detroit Saturday night. The pressure on Anderson to perform in Cleveland Browns Stadium is the white-hot kind that can't be simulated on the practice field.
| Our view: Derek Anderson had a pathetic performance against the Packers, going 0-2 for 0 yards and 1 interception on the night. He should be the starting quarterback this week and he had better bring his "A" game if he wants to stay in this competition. |

Browns | Round one quarterback battle a wash? Sun Aug 16, 01:56 AM
Cleveland Browns QB Brady Quinn hit 7-of-11 passes for 68 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. Head coach Eric Mangini said his quarterback competition is far from over, and the two quarterbacks, according to The Associated Press, are eager to put their first showing far behind them. QB Derek Anderson and WR Braylon Edwards are reportedly big fans of the offense. Former head coach Romeo Crennel decided against using the no-huddle because he wanted the team to stick to basics.
| Our view: The Browns are unlikely to compete for the playoffs this year, so we think it would be smart for them to put in some risk/reward strategies like the no-huddle that put the pressure on the opposition. This development could also enhance the fantasy value of Edwards and the eventual winner of the QB battle. |

Unfortunately commissioner Goodell would probably frown on such genetic experiments, so the Browns are left with what they have. Quinn can throw underneath passes with touch and accuracy, but can't throw deep. Anderson loves to throw deep passes but is a gunslinger and will force too many passes.
