Redskins | Five players released    Mon May 3, 02:27 PM

According to Redskins.com's Matt Terl, the Washington Redskins have released RB Anthony Alridge, RB P.J. Hill, WR Marko Mitchell, WR James Robinson and DL Anthony Montgomery.

Footballguys view: With the addition of players like Willie Parker, Joey Galloway, and Bobby Wade it made younger guys like P.J. Hill and Marko Mitchell expendable. Some of these players could be invited back for training camp if injuries strike. A team like New Orleans might try and re-sign P.J. Hill for added depth in the RB corps.

Redskins | Alridge signed to practice squad    Thu Dec 10, 01:20 AM

CBSSports.com reports the Washington Redskins have re-signed free-agent RB Anthony Alridge to their practice squad.

Footballguys view: Alridge aka "Quick Six" returns to the Redskins as the team is looking for depth at the RB position now that Clinton Portis is out for the year. Alridge is very dangerous in open space, and can be used effectively as a receiver out of the backfield. We'll see if he the team signs him to the active roster anytime soon.

Redskins | Alridge may get some playing time    Sat Sep 26, 07:20 PM

Jason Reid, from the Washington Post, notes that in a highly unusual move, the Redskins are carrying five running backs on the roster: Clinton Portis, Anthony Alridge, Ladell Betts, Marcus Mason and Rock Cartwright. Portis, Betts, Mason and Cartwright are considered tackle-to-tackle guys. Alridge is the only member of the group with home-run potential, and he moved ahead of Mason and Cartwright as soon as he was re-signed.

Footballguys view: Reid also thinks that Betts grip on the third down role isn't as strong as it was before the opener. He has barely produced when called upon, and doesn't have the same type of big play ability that Alridge has. However, if Portis were to miss time due to injury Betts would get first crack at the starting job.

Redskins | Alridge having trouble holding on to the ball    Sun Aug 9, 03:14 PM

Jason Reid, from the Washington Post, reports running backs Anthony Alridge and Dominique Dorsey are competing to make the Redskins' season-opening 53-man roster as special teams players. Alridge, who did not practice Sunday morning and was in the trainers' room receiving treatment for what Jim Zorn said was a sprained toe, has been particularly careless with the rock, fumbling several times during an afternoon practice last week. He also fumbled in Saturday's intrasquad scrimmage, which disappointed Zorn.

Footballguys view: The Redskins want a home-run threat behind Portis and Betts and "Quick Six" Anthony Alridge fits that bill. He averaged 10-yards per carry his junior year for the Houston Cougars, but is coming off a lis franc injury that cost him his entire rookie season. Alridge works great in space, with quick feet, a good burst, and amazing speed. However, if he can't hold onto the ball he won't even make the team.

Redskins | Some RBs will need to make impression to make team    Thu Jun 25, 02:24 PM

Paul Tenorio, of The Washington Post, reports Washington Redskins RBs Anthony Alridge, Dominique Dorsey and Marcus Mason will have to make big impressions during training camp to make the final roster.

Footballguys view: Marcus Mason led the preseason in rushing last year for the Redskins, but couldn't make the final roster and bounced around to a few different teams in 2008. Anthony Alrdige was going to be a fantastic change of pace RB for the Broncos last year before he was lost for the year with an injury. "Quick Six" averaged 10 yards per carry his junior year at Houston and has explosive speed with cat-like quickness. Dominique Dorsey was a star in the CFL on special teams, but is limited as a runner between the tackles. This should be an interesting battle to watch during the preseason and we'd put our money on Anthony Alridge to win the spot.

Redskins | Alridge could make team    Mon Jun 1, 10:17 PM

Ryan O'Halloran, of The Washington Times, reports Washington Redskins RB Anthony Alridge could make the team if he does well in the preseason on special teams.

Footballguys view: Anthony Alridge aka "Quick Six" has amazing quickness and can get to top speed in a hurry. He's not ever going to gain many yards between the tackles, but could be effectively used on screen passes, sweeps, counters, and draw plays. The Redskins don't have a back on their roster quite like the speedster, so he could make the squad as a change of pace back and return man.
