Dolphins | Dwayne Allen joining Miami    Sat Mar 9, 02:40 PM

Free-agent TE Dwayne Allen (Patriots) will sign with the Miami Dolphins, he told ESPN's Josina Anderson Saturday, March 9. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the deal is a two-year pact worth $7 million, per a source.

Footballguys view: That didn't take long. Allen was released by the Patriots about a week ago and had more than a few teams interested in his services. With the Dolphins, Allen should work as a blocker while second-year pro Mike Gesicki should take a step forward as the receiving tight end.

Dolphins | Miami to meet with Dwayne Allen    Thu Mar 7, 07:59 PM

Free-agent TE Dwayne Allen (Patriots) is scheduled to meet with the Miami Dolphins Friday, March 8, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Allen has a few teams interested in his services since the Patriots let him go earlier this month. He's always been a better receiver than his numbers show but at this point in his career Allen is mostly going to be a blocker for his new team.

Lions | Detroit to meet with Dwayne Allen    Wed Mar 6, 07:05 PM

Free-agent TE Dwayne Allen (Patriots) is scheduled to meet with the Detroit Lions after his visit with the Buffalo Bills, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Lions need a weapon at the tight end position since letting Eric Ebron go last offseason. Allen is a good receiver but he's more of a blocker at this point in his career.

Bills | Buffalo to meet with Dwayne Allen    Tue Mar 5, 04:21 PM

Free-agent TE Dwayne Allen (Patriots) is scheduled to meet with the Buffalo Bills after he finishes his visit with the Baltimore Ravens Tuesday, March 5, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Bills could use some help at the position, especially since they moved on from Charles Clay earlier this offseason. Allen is a good blocker and could be more of a receiver than the Patriots used him as over the last two seasons (only 13 catches combined).

Ravens | Dwayne Allen visiting Ravens    Tue Mar 5, 09:15 AM

Free-agent TE Dwayne Allen (Patriots) is visiting the Balitmore Ravens Tuesday, March 5.

Footballguys view: That's an odd visit. The Ravens selected two tight ends in the draft last year and seem to be set at the position with Hayden Hurst and Mark Andrews. Allen might be added as a big-bodied blocker at this point in his career.

NFL | Four teams interested in Dwayne Allen    Mon Mar 4, 07:01 PM

Free-agent TE Dwayne Allen (Patriots) has received preliminary interest from the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins and Detroit Lions, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Allen can work as a blocker and receiver for any team he goes to. The Patriots would have interest in him coming back at a lower price. Given the reported interest in the veteran tight end that doesn't seem likely to happen.

NFL | Dwayne Allen a popular target    Mon Mar 4, 06:47 PM

Free-agent TE Dwayne Allen (Patriots) has visits scheduled with four undisclosed teams, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Patriots still want to re-sign Allen, but at a lower price. His release saved New England $7.3 million for their 2019 salary cap.

Patriots | Ryan Izzo may receive better role    Sat Mar 2, 02:44 PM

New England Patriots TE Ryan Izzo could receive a bigger role in the offense next season with TE Dwayne Allen being released.

Footballguys view: We always listen when Reiss reports something, and we'll be watching this tight end situation with the Patriots closely this offseason. Rob Gronkowski may retire and Allen has been let go. Perhaps they could bring Allen back at a lower price. We shall see...and remember Jacob Hollister has been developing with the Patriots for a couple of years and he's an intriguing deep dynasty prospect.

Patriots | Dwayne Allen may return in 2019    Sun Feb 17, 04:09 PM

New England Patriots impending free-agent TE Dwayne Allen could re-sign with the Patriots this offseason, but he would likely have to accept a pay cut, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Mike Reiss.

Footballguys view: This could be a big return for the Patriots, especially with the future of Rob Gronkowski still up in the air. Several people in the Patriots organization like Allen's professional approach, and he has been around Gillette Stadium over the last few weeks.

Patriots | Dwayne Allen on the bubble in New England?    Fri Jun 29, 03:33 PM

New England Patriots TE Dwayne Allen is due a $4.5 million base salary and $5 million cap charge for 2018, possibly putting him in the conversation to be released later this summer, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.

Footballguys view: There is zero dead money remaining on Allen's contract, so the Patriots can easily move on and save $5 million if they'd like. Allen is not much of a receiving threat, and the team should be able to find a blocking tight end for a much better price.

Patriots | Free agency decisions ahead for New England    Mon Feb 5, 01:55 PM

The New England Patriots face the prospect of losing several key free agents. The Patriots have to address key impending free agents in OTs Nate Solder, Cameron Fleming and LaAdrian Waddle, along with RB Rex Burkhead, WR Danny Amendola, CB Malcolm Butler, WR/ST Matthew Slater and RB Dion Lewis. New England is projected to have approximately $17 million in salary cap space. TE Dwayne Allen, TE Martellus Bennett, DT Alan Branch, LB David Harris and RB Mike Gillislee all could be released to create more cap space.

Footballguys view: Solder is their franchise left tackle, and there's not a lot of talent at the position in this free agent class. There is speculation that Solder will end up retiring.

Patriots | Dwayne Allen acknowledges slow start    Tue Oct 10, 10:20 PM

New England Patriots TE Dwayne Allen has been targeted six times and doesn't have a reception this season, contributing mostly as a blocker while acknowledging he has yet to play up to his potential. Allen told reporters 'a lot goes into every offense, especially this one,' and pointed out 'the non-verbal communication between quarterback and receivers, certain things Tom (Brady) expects, when you're not able to execute those things, you're not out there as much.'

Patriots | Dwayne Allen shut out    Fri Oct 6, 09:41 AM

New England Patriots TE Dwayne Allen was held without a catch in Week 5 despite TE Rob Gronkowski's (thigh) absence.

Footballguys view: Allen was once a valuable fantasy tight end with the Colts, but even as the starter for the Patriots, he has no value. He can be dropped across formats.

  Patriots | Dwayne Allen a non-factor    Mon Sep 25, 11:59 AM

New England Patriots TE Dwayne Allen has five targets and no catches in three games this season.

Footballguys view: So much for Allen taking some fantasy value away from Rob Gronkowski. By our count, Allen hasn't caught a pass for the Patriots in the preseason or the regular season so far. Fantasy owners can leave Allen on the waiver wire as it would take a Gronkowski injury for him to have any relevance...and even then he might not make hay in this offense.

Patriots | Dwayne Allen comfortable with new offense    Sun Aug 13, 11:08 AM

New England patriots TE Dwayne Allen is running better than he was in the spring and seems more comfortable with the offense, according to ESPN.com's Mike Reiss.

Footballguys view: This is an improvement from what we've seen reported from OTAs and minicamp. It didn't seem like Allen was fitting in early on, but it sounds like he's getting up to speed with what the Patriots want him to do. Allen won't have much fantasy impact so long as Rob Gronkowski is healthy. If Gronk gets banged up, Allen has TE1 upside in this dynamic offense.

Patriots | Dwayne Allen seeing a ton of red zone work    Tue Aug 8, 01:20 PM

New England Patriots TE Dwayne Allen has been the recipient of 'a ton of targets in the red zone' during training camp, according to the Boston Globe's Ben Volin.

Footballguys view: Allen has been a red zone monster in the past - when he is able to stay on the field. It's hard to see him being more prominent than Rob Gronkowski, but if Gronkowski goes down, Allen will be an insta-pickup, and you could do worse than Allen as a desperation tight end play any week you need one. He's going undrafted in most leagues.

Patriots | Dwayne Allen not a lock    Thu Jul 13, 10:18 AM

New England Patriots TE Dwayne Allen isn't considered a lock to make the team, in the opinion of beat writer Mike Reiss.

Footballguys view: Allen has been pretty lackluster from a career standpoint, so this is no real surprise, however keep in mind we haven't even hit camp. Further, Reiss is just speculating to speculate and really, we knew Allen had a lot to prove going in. That doesn't mean we're excited by Allen, but we're not counting him out yet given the lack of legitimate tight ends outside of Rob Gronkwoski.

Colts | Indy trades Dwayne Allen    Wed Mar 8, 05:05 PM

The Indianapolis Colts traded TE Dwayne Allen and a sixth-round draft pick to the New England Patriots in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick, according to sources.

Footballguys view: The Colts just re-signed Jack Doyle, and they're moving on from Allen. He just got a four-year, $29.6 million extension last year but was disappointing. With such a great tight end class this year, expect the Colts to select one at some point in the 2017 NFL draft.

Patriots | Dwayne Allen trade update    Wed Mar 8, 05:02 PM

Updating a previous report, the New England Patriots have acquired TE Dwayne Allen and a sixth-round draft pick from the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a fourth-round pick, according to sources.

Footballguys view: It's a strong move for the Patriots, especially since Martellus Bennett is likely to move on in free agency. Allen is a good all-purpose tight end who can excel as a blocker or receiver behind/alongside Rob Gronkowski.

Colts | Dwayne Allen limited    Thu Dec 15, 05:58 PM

Indianapolis Colts TE Dwayne Allen (hip) was limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 15.
