The Cincinnati Bengls waived WR Mario Alford with an injury designation Tuesday, Aug. 30. The Bengals also put DT Andrew Billings on injured reserve and put DT Brandon Thompson on the Physically Unable to Perform list. The Bengals are now at 75 players.

Cincinnati Bengals WR Mario Alford is entering an important training camp for him because the team wants to see if he is a legitimate candidate for the punt returner job, according to special teams coordinator Darrin Simmons. Alford returned five punts for 59 yards last preseason.

| Footballguys view: Let's not get too crazy here. Tate is a speedy returner, but that's about it as he's not impressive as a receiver. Alford is a smaller (5'8" 180 pounds) receiver/returner who the Bengals picked up out of West Virginia in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL draft. Kumerow was a training camp stud last year as an undrafted rookie out of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The 6'5" 205 pound WR made a good impression and spent his rookie season learning on the Bengals practice squad. In deep dynasty, he's a player we like and the best one worth watching here for fantasy owners. |

Alford, Fisher and Jones didn't practice Friday, Dec. 11. Iloka was limited, while the others practiced in full. He lacks the route-running ability to thrive on underneath passes, but his speed makes him dangerous after the catch on crossing routes. Alford could contribute as a return man because of his ability to fly down the field. We should see him go off the board in the fifth round. |
