Vikings | Cam Akers torn Achilles confirmed    Mon Nov 6, 03:12 PM

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings RB Cam Akers (Achilles) is confirmed to have torn his Achilles, according to sources Monday, Nov. 6.

Footballguys view: Akers is now going to miss the rest of the season, and his future in the NFL is up in the air. Achilles' injuries are not the career killers they used to be, but it's going to take quite a bit of time for Akers to look like his old self. Akers is set to be a restricted free agent in 2024. The Vikings move on with Alexander Mattison as their unquestioned lead back.

Vikings | Another torn Achilles for Cam Akers?    Mon Nov 6, 12:04 PM

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings RB Cam Akers (Achilles) is feared to have suffered a torn Achilles in his left foot in Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons. Akers suffered a torn Achilles in his right foot in the summer of 2021.

Vikings | Cam Akers' debut to wait a week    Sat Sep 23, 12:32 AM

Minnesota Vikings RB Cam Akers is not expected to be active for the Week 3 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, according to head coach Kevin O'Connell.

Footballguys view: We'll see one more week of Alexander Mattison as the starter. Behind him, Ty Chandler could get some work. Next week will be a big test for Mattison's hold on the starting job. Once Akers is up to speed - which shouldn't take long since O'Connell's offense is a Shanahan system like Sean McVay runs with the Rams - he could be the lead back for the Vikings.

Vikings | Minnesota still confident in Alexander Mattison    Thu Sep 21, 12:20 PM

Minnesota Vikings RB Alexander Mattison is still receiving confidence from the coaching staff despite the trade to acquire RB Cam Akers, according to OC Wes Phillips on Thursday, Sept. 21. 'We haven't lost confidence in Alex Mattison. I will say that,' Phillips said.

Footballguys view: That's a nice sentiment, but always look at what they do and not what they say. The team made a move for RB Cam Akers, likely to take over in the backfield. Mattison has been highly unimpressive this season, and Akers should be the lead back as soon as he gets up to speed in the offense - which shouldn't be difficult because Kevin O'Connell's system is a Shanahan offense just like Sean McVay runs with the Rams.

Rams | LAR moves on from Cam Akers    Thu Sep 21, 12:16 AM

Los Angeles Rams RB Cam Akers was traded to the Minnesota Vikings Wednesday, Sept. 20, according to sources. The two teams will exchange late-round picks in 2026 as part of the trade.

Footballguys view: Kyren Williams has been the best back for the Rams this year. Akers was frustrated, and the two sides got to move on with this trade. Now, Williams gets to prove himself further as the lead back. From a fantasy perspective, Williams is an RB2 with upside in this role. Behind Williams, Ronnie Rivers and Zach Evans (a rookie favorite of Matt Waldman) will compete to be the primary backup.

Vikings | Minnesota acquires Cam Akers    Thu Sep 21, 12:16 AM

Los Angeles Rams RB Cam Akers was acquired by the Minnesota Vikings Wednesday, Sept. 20, according to sources. The two teams will exchange late-round picks in 2026 as part of the trade.

Footballguys view: Alexander Mattison has been disappointing (to say the least) so far this season. In two games, Mattison has just 19 carries for 61 yards and hasn't been the replacement for Dalvin Cook that some thought he would be. Akers is going to get every chance to earn the starting role, and he should be energized with a fresh start.

Los Angeles Rams RB Cam Akers was a healthy scratch in Week 2, and head coach Sean McVay said Akers' future with the team is uncertain. 'I have tremendous respect for Cam Akers, but I felt like in this game and as we move forward that this was going to be the best decision for us,' McVay said.   Rams | Cam Akers was busy to end the year    Sat Jul 8, 03:58 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Cam Akers recorded at least 12 carries in each of the final six games of last year, logging at least 20 touches and 125 total yards in the final three contests.

Footballguys view: Akers was fantastic to close out the season for the Rams last year. Fantasy GMs are hoping he'll continue to get that type of workload even though RB Sony Michel is back in the building. Projections for Akers vary - sometimes wildly - but it's clear RB1 upside is there. Right now, Akers has an ADP in the fourth round as an RB2 with upside.

Rams | Stock up for Cam Akers    Sat Jun 17, 04:12 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Cam Akers 'is going to be a central figure in this offense' this season, according to head coach Sean McVay. 'But Cam is a stud,' McVay said. 'He's taking great care of himself physically, he's in a good place mentally. Just continuing to mature and I'm really excited about what he's going to do for us this year.'

Footballguys view: The stock is up for now with Akers. However, the Rams reworked the contract of WR Cooper Kupp to free up around $10 MM in cap space. That has led some to speculate the Rams could show interest in free agent RB Dalvin Cook. Adding Cook would obviously push Akers' stock down. If Cook is not added, then Akers could produce nicely as he's going off the board as a low-end RB2 at this time (in PPR formats).

Rams | Zach Evans a perfect fit?    Mon May 8, 01:18 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Zach Evans has 'some special traits' and has a skillset that complements RB Cam Akers and the other running backs on the roster, according to head coach Sean McVay.

Footballguys view: Evans flashed a ton of natural talent in college at Ole Miss. He reminds some in the scouting community of Melvin Gordon because of his ability to gash defenses with speed and finish runs with a bit of power. Evans can take advantage of rushing lanes in a gap system, plus he can hit the cutback lane with speed to outrun angles. The rookie is going to compete for a spot in the pecking order, likely battling with Kyren Williams for the primary backup job to Akers.

Rams | Hope to Build on Akers' Late Season Production    Thu Feb 2, 05:22 PM

Jordan Rodrigue, from the Athletic, reports the Los Angeles Rams are hoping to build off the late-season production of RB Cam Akers.

Footballguys view: With new OC Mike LaFleur, the Rams should implement more wide-zone concepts with Akers being the primary beneficiary. If healthy, Akers could be quite productive in that system which makes him an RB2 with upside consideration.

Rams | Cam Akers hits triple digits again    Sun Jan 8, 08:18 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Cam Akers rushed 21 times for 104 yards in Week 18 against the Seattle Seahawks, his third consecutive 100-yard performance.

Footballguys view: Akers has done a phenomenal job of turning things around this season. There were rumblings about him getting traded when he was away from the team, but nothing came to fruition. Instead, Akers was welcomed back with open arms and literally ran with his opportunity. He'll enter next season, the final year of his contract, as the lead back for the Rams.

Rams | Cam Akers a big part of 2023 plans    Mon Dec 26, 04:52 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Cam Akers remains firmly in the team's 2023 plans, according to recent comments from head coach Sean McVay.'With what he's done continuing to build on that momentum, I think it'd be silly based on what a great job he's done to think of it anything differently than him being a big part of what you want to be able to do moving forward. ... There's totally a different trajectory in terms of what he's done and the way that he's handled himself and the way that he's playing like we know he's capable of, ' McVay said.

Los Angeles Rams RB Cam Akers carried the ball 12 times for 42 yards and a touchdown against the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday, Dec. 8. He added one reception (on one target) for one yard. Akers also lost a fumble.

Footballguys view: Akers late touchdown bailed out anyone who tried Akers after he scored twice in Week 13. The Rams should be competitive against Green Bay and give Akers at least desperation play value as he appears to have moved firmly ahead of Kyren Williams in the backfield.

Rams | Rams hope Cam Akers will play again    Wed Nov 2, 02:23 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Cam Akers was not traded at the deadline despite being disgruntled, and the Rams, who turned down multiple offers for him, are working with Akers' agent in the hopes he will play for them again in 2022, per sources on Wednesday Nov. 2.

Footballguys view: Translation; the Rams didn't get an offer they liked for Akers. A second-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft, Akers has been away from the team for a few weeks since he has 'philosophical differences' with Rams' head coach Sean McVay.
