Bears | Zach Miller nearing return Tue Aug 23, 11:34 PM
Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (concussion) was once again in a red jersey, which signifies no contact, during practice on Tuesday, Aug. 23, but is thought to be close to returning from the NFL's concussion protocol.
|Footballguys view: If healthy -- something that has been a problem for Miller during his pro career -- we think he could catch 50 passes this year for the Bears. That makes him a TE2 with some upside. Keep an eye on his return before you draft him late.|

Saints | Coby Fleener still work in progress Tue Aug 23, 10:53 PM
New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener is still getting situation in his team's offense, and he continues to make adjustments. 'I'd say it's an ongoing progression,' head coach Sean Payton said Monday, Aug. 22. 'I think, man, there's some plays that are real good, and then there's some plays where we've got to be a little bit more detailed and that's something that I know he's got to work on.'
|Footballguys view: That's not what you want to hear about a player going off in the top 5 of his position. Right now, Fleener is getting drafted at TE5 (6.05) in 12-team PPR leagues. We'll see how he does this week in the dress rehearsal for the regular season. On paper, Fleener could be quite the valuable fantasy asset with the Saints.|

Saints | C.J. Spiller not popping in preseason Tue Aug 23, 10:53 PM
New Orleans Saints RB C.J. Spiller hasn't had a lot of flash plays in the preseason, and he also fumbled in the fourth quarter of the preseason game against the Houston Texans.
|Footballguys view: Nobody should be shocked. The team wanted to take a look at Spiller as a change-of-pace back, and they may have seen enough.|

Saints | Tim Hightower hones in on No. 2 job Tue Aug 23, 10:52 PM
New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower is expected to serve as the team's primary backup to RB Mark Ingram, as none of the other reserve tailbacks have flashed or helped themselves in training camp and the preseason.
|Footballguys view: Keep this in mind if you play in deeper leagues and want to handcuff a player to Ingram. After Ingram was hurt last year, Hightower stepped in and did well. He played adequately over the final four games, with 84 carries for 327 yards (3.9 ypc) and 4 touchdowns. He also had 12 receptions for 129 yards.|

Saints | Mark Ingram will be the bellcow Tue Aug 23, 10:51 PM
New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram is expected to shoulder most of the load in the backfield with all of his underlings struggling in one facet of the game or another. He is capable of playing three downs, is capable of doing big things catching the ball out of the backfield and he is the best of the group in pass protection, too.
|Footballguys view: Was this ever in question? Ingram is the bellcow, and he's been working on his receiving skills this offseason as he never wants to come off the field. He had a career-high 50 catches last year and could do even more as a receiver this year. Ingram has finished each of the last two seasons as the no.15 fantasy RB (standard scoring leagues), and this could be the year that he ranks closer to the top 10.|

Saints | Marcus Murphy in the doghouse Tue Aug 23, 10:51 PM
New Orleans Saints RB Marcus Murphy has coughed the ball up in the return game, and head coach Sean Payton lashed out at him publicly for the second time in as many years due to the issue. He has fumbled twice in two preseason games, losing one.
|Footballguys view: This is a good way to get cut. Murphy will be hard pressed to make the Saints 53-man roster.|

Raiders | Seth Roberts not standing out Tue Aug 23, 10:50 PM
Oakland Raiders WR Seth Roberts hasn't been standing out in training camp or the preseason, as he head coach Jack Del Rio did not seem overly impressed Tuesday, Aug. 23. 'I would say Seth has been OK. Yeah, he's been OK. He made a really nice catch last week in practice. I think he's been working at it. I think he's starting to feel pushed a little bit, which is what we'd like to have. Yeah, he's been a good player for us,' Del Rio said.
|Footballguys view: It sounds like the no.3 wideout in Oakland is in the coach's doghouse. Earlier this offseason QB Derek Carr praised Roberts, and his emergence could help further strengthen this passing game. However, Roberts needs to pick it up if he wants to duplicate or best his numbers from last year (32 catches, 480 yards, 5 touchdowns).|

Packers | Jordy Nelson remains on limited duty Tue Aug 23, 09:57 PM
Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson worked with QB Aaron Rodgers in practice Tuesday, Aug. 23, but Nelson was once again held out of competitive, 11-on-11 periods. He might not play in any preseason games, and he and Rodgers might only have a handful of practices together before the Week 1 opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, Rodgers believes it will be enough. 'Because I know exactly where he's going to be,' Rodgers said. 'That's the beauty of us playing together for a long time.'
|Footballguys view: Nelson is working his way back from the tendinitis that was bothering him earlier this month. The team is taking it easy on him with a plan on Nelson being near full strength for Week 1 of the regular season. Nelson is a WR1 for fantasy owners, and you can snare him around WR10 (2.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.|

Packers | Aaron Rodgers fine with limited work Tue Aug 23, 09:56 PM
Updating a previous report, Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers expects to play in the preseason game Friday, Aug. 26, against the San Francisco 49ers, but how much has not yet been decided. 'Whatever (head coach Mike McCarthy) wants me to do,' Rodgers said. 'We haven't talked about play time yet. I'm not sure how long he wants me to play, but it'll be good to get out there and get some work with the guys.' He doesn't expect to play in the preseason finale against the Kansas City Chiefs next week.
|Footballguys view: We don't need to see a ton of Rodgers. With WR Jordy Nelson healthy (and Mike McCarthy back to calling the plays), expect Rodgers to be his normal high-level QB1 for fantasy owners once again in 2016. Rodgers has a current ADP of QB2 (4.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.|

Packers | Jared Cook gets comfortable with QB Tue Aug 23, 09:56 PM
Green Bay Packers TE Jared Cook will play his first preseason game with QB Aaron Rodgers Friday, Aug. 26, against the San Francisco 49ers. The two have developed a rapport with one another since Cook came off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list Aug. 9.
|Footballguys view: This is a really good sign for Cook, the Packers offense and fantasy owners who want a lottery ticket TE late in their draft. Cook has amazing athletic ability -- he always has -- but the veteran TE has never truly played up to his potential. Perhaps, maybe, possibly, hopefully this can be the year he emerges because Cook is catching passes from one of the best QBs in the game.|

Green Bay Packers DL Kenny Clark (back) missed practice Tuesday, Aug. 23, due to a back injury. He said it was the first time he ever missed practice due to injury. Seahawks | Jimmy Graham gets day to rest Tue Aug 23, 09:32 PM
Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham (knee) was given the day off from practice Tuesday, Aug. 23, after what offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said had been four straight days of good work.
|Footballguys view: Graham's status for the start of the regular season is in question. The team has been -- and will continue to be cautious with him as he returns from one of the most devastating injury any football player can suffer. We're not expecting much from Graham this year (especially early), so only consider him a late-round TE2 for your fantasy team.|

Seahawks | First-team offense to play past half Tue Aug 23, 09:31 PM
Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson and the rest of the first-team offense is expected to play at least one series into the third quarter in the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 25, against the Dallas Cowboys, offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell confirmed Tuesday, Aug. 23.
|Footballguys view: We're excited to see the Seahawks first-team offense for that amount of time. It should prove quite productive for guys like Wilson, WRs Doug Baldwin and Tyler Lockett. We'll also be interested to see if RB Christine Michael continues to look good this preseason.|
Russell Wilson player page
Seahawks | Thomas Rawls out for Thursday Tue Aug 23, 09:30 PM
As expected, Seattle Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls (ankle) will not play in the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 25, against the Dallas Cowboys, head coach Pete Carroll confirmed Tuesday, Aug. 23.
|Footballguys view: Keep an eye on this Seahawks backfield as Rawls continues to miss time. Christine Michael should be the lead back this week, and rookie C.J. Prosise may be able to play as a backup. Rawls should be ready for the start of the regular season, but his injury and the resurgence of Michael gives us pause -- especially where Rawls is still going (RB15, 4.04 in 12-team PPR) in drafts.|

Giants | Victor Cruz impresses at camp Tue Aug 23, 08:20 PM
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (groin) did not show any signs of a lingering groin injury at practice Tuesday, Aug. 23, and he displayed quickness off the line of scrimmage. Cruz was a full participant in practice for the first time since Aug. 8.
|Footballguys view: Let's see how Cruz does the day after a big day on the practice field. Oftentimes when returning from an injury, it's the day after that can show some soreness. If all signs look good, Cruz might be able to participate in the team's third preseason game this week. We feel the Giants will likely keep him out until the start of the regular season.|

Jets | New York hosts Karlos Williams Tue Aug 23, 06:57 PM
Free-agent RB Karlos Williams (Bills) visited the New York Jets Tuesday, Aug. 23. A deal is not imminent, however.
|Footballguys view: The Jets will take a look at any player from the AFC East. Williams needs to lose weight and prove that he wants to take football seriously before a team takes a chance on him. He's also got to serve a four-game suspension before getting back onto the field in the regular season.|
Karlos Williams player page
Redskins | Josh Doctson could be ready soon Tue Aug 23, 06:52 PM
Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson (Achilles') could take the field as early as the Redskins' final preseason game. Head coach Jay Gruden said the 'total expectation' is for Doctson to be good to go by Week 1, although he is not at 100% health yet. Gruden does believe that Doctson is in a good place from a mental standpoint.
|Footballguys view: Achilles' injuries are nothing to mess around with. Doctson is a savvy route-runner who could compete for the team's no.3 WR spot with Jamison Crowder. Look for Washington to ease him in the lineup.|

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater resumes throwing Tue Aug 23, 06:24 PM
Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (shoulder) threw during team drills Tuesday, Aug. 23, although he was apparently throwing shorter passes for the most part. Head coach Mike Zimmer said he didn't want to play Bridgewater last week for risk of Bridgewater getting hurt, adding that he would use caution if Bridgewater did have a shoulder issue.
|Footballguys view: The Vikings will take it easy on their young franchise QB here. It's unclear if Bridgewater will play in Week 3 of the preseason.|

Lions | Golden Tate back at practice Tue Aug 23, 06:10 PM
Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate (undisclosed) returned to practice Tuesday, Aug. 23. The extent of his participation was not disclosed, however.
