Outside of Justin Hunter, Jermaine Gresham, and the Jaguars Week 2 was a good one for the DraftKings Bargain Buys in Week 2. If you went cheap at running backs with Ahmad Bradshaw and Matt Asiata you likely he had a very good week. Mohamed Sanu also provided a top ten WR score for a mere $3400. On the week we had a 63% success rate, moving our season rate up to nearly 60%. Let's try to get over the hump in Week 3. The Value Play at each position is based off of the projections of David Dodds, while the Bargain Buy is my personal recommendation. You don't want a roster full of these guys, but using 1-2 of them could help you win your GPP.
Quarterback
Value Play
Matt Cassel ($5400) vs. New Orleans- I detailed a lot of the things we like about Cassel in this week's FanDuel piece, but his value is even better on DraftKings. At only $5400 Cassel is a steal against a defense that has been susceptible to big passing games. A Cassel-Jennings stack doesn't sound like something you'd want to jump all over, but as you'll see below, it's one of the best low-cost stacks available.
Bargain Buy
Austin Davis ($5400) vs. Dallas- Davis has yet to throw a touchdown, but the Cowboys secondary should be a cure for that. What he has done is complete a high number of his passes, which will come in handy against a secondary that's all too willing to sit back and let you throw it underneath. If Davis can match his 235 yards from Week 2 and mix in a couple of touchdowns he could be the play of the day.
Running Back
Value Play
Matt Asiata $4600 vs. New Orleans- Asiata was a great start last week and we're riding with him in Week 2 against a suspect Saints defense. Asiata will share the duties with Jerrick McKinnon, but until McKinnon can learn to block better Asiata is going to see a large percentage of the snaps. While we also like Cassel, we can't suggest using both in this game, so decide where you want to spend your money before you decide.
Bargain Buy
Pierre Thomas ($4900) vs. Minnesota- With Mark Ingram out there is going to be an increase in the workload of both Thomas and Khiry Robinson but I like Thomas' chances of being the biggest benefactor. The Vikings have a chance of stopping New Orleans when they run up the middle but I can't see their linebackers keeping up with Thomas in the passing game. This could be a Sproles-esque effort for Thomas.
Wide Receiver
Value Play
Malcolm Floyd ($3000) vs. Buffalo- No, that is not a typo. Floyd has had two extremely difficult match ups early in the year but gets a bit of a break in Week 3. While the Bills have been one of the surprises of the first two weeks they still have plenty of questions in the secondary. They should focus their efforts on stopping Keenan Allen and Antonio Gates, leaving Floyd in single coverage for most of the game. He's a true bargain buy with a $3000 salary.
Bargain Buy
Greg Jennings ($4200) vs. New Orleans- I've already given a bunch of reasons why I like the Vikings pass attack this week, but there's more reason to like Jennings in particular. Most importantly, he has a great relationship with Matt Cassel, and Cordarrelle Patterson's big play ability takes some of the pressure off of him. If you have the money, I'm okay with a Cassel-Patterson stack but with Jennings being only $4200, Cassel-Jennings is the true bargain stack.
Tight End
Value Play
Larry Donnell ($4000) vs. New York Giants- I have a hard time seeing the Giants move the ball on the ground against Houston and Donnell has, to this point, been the only reliable option for Eli Manning. As long as he's leading the team in targets (and undervalued in his price) there's no reason to move away from him. We also think Donnell is a great play on FanDuel at a higher price.
Bargain Buy
Jared Cook ($3400) vs. Dallas- The Cowboys linebackers are not good and they're selling out against the run right now. Their secondary starts backpedalling as soon as the ball is snapped. This leads to a perfect recipe for a Cook breakout. He's overlooked too often in this offense but this should be the week where he sees a steady diet of targets and makes some defensive backs look silly for trying to tackle him.
Defense
St. Louis Rams ($2900) vs. Dallas- This is a combination of the Rams defensive line and Tony Romo's penchant for throwing interceptions. I don't anticipate the Rams will shut the Cowboys down, but I do think they have a great chance to generate some big plays. At this cost it won't take very many big plays to make the Rams look like a brilliant play.
