FanDuel was back at it again with their massive Week 7 Sunday Million contest, requiring a $25 entry fee with 36,800 people getting paid out at least $50. This massive $4 million GPP tournament had 183,908 entries available for buy-in and ended up selling out before lineups locked. Each week FanDuel will be running a Sunday Million GPP Contest and we will break it down here at Footballguys.com and see what the keys were to having the top lineup on the week and taking home the top prize of $500,000.
Here's how Week 7 of the Sunday Million shook out.
|
DFS Screen Name | Points | Prize Money |

3rd | money_m4rc | 218.74 | $100,000 |

Brettg83 is the newest winner of FanDuel's Sunday Million taking home the top prize of $500,000 with an impressive score of 224.32 points. The difference between first place and 2nd place was 3 points exactly and that came from the defense position where Brettg83 took the St Louis Rams for $4,500 who scored 25 FanDuel points and 2nd place finisher rowdy16 took the New York Giants at the same price $4,500 but the scored 3 points less at just 22 points.
Brettg83's team used all the salary cap but $100 which might have helped him have a more unique team in the end. The entire team only had one player that was under 8.5% owned which happened to be their kicker Blair Walsh at $4,700 who was only owned by 1.4% of the teams in this weeks Sunday Million. It helped that Walsh scored 20 points as he kicked 5 total field goals with 2 being 50+ yards and 2 being 40+ yards. Scoring 20 points from the kicker position can really set your team a part from the rest and especially when it happens to be that only 1.4% of the field was on that play.
At RB it was very simple for brettg83 as he found two very inexpensive RBs who both had great matchups who helped allow him to pay up for a top QB and 2 top WRs. Todd Gurley at $7,400 was the top option at RB as he was the highest owned player in the contest at 54.1% and scored a massive 30.30 FanDuel points. Lamar Miller was a sneaky play at only $6,700 and he outscored all RBs on the day with 37.10 points and was only owned by 8.5% of the field. He went with an Andrew Luck and T.Y. Hilton QB/WR stack that paid off nicely with both ownership percentage and production. Luck was only owned by 8.8% of the field and Hilton by 11.8% making for a very nice combo at the QB/WR positions.
Going into the week all the talk was about the TE position against the Raiders defense and it was Antonio Gates who was the talk until he was ruled out with an injury and Ladarius Green became an instant value play at just $5,100 to fill the void. Green did not disappoint as he scored 16.50 points and was owned by 15.2% of the field. At defense brettg83 went with the St. Louis Rams at $4,500 as they were the most popular choice at the defense position being owned by 27.9% of the field.
Position | Player | Salary | FanDuel Points | % Owned |
QB | Andrew Luck | $8,900 | 26.02 | 8.8% |
RB | Todd Gurley | $7,400 | 30.30 | 54.1% |
RB | Lamar Miller | $6,700 | 37.10 | 8.5% |
WR | T.Y. Hilton | $7,700 | 29.00 | 11.8% |
WR | Julio Jones | $9,100 | 19.70 | 16.1% |
WR | Stefon Diggs | $5,800 | 20.70 | 15.5% |
TE | Ladarius Green | $5,100 | 16.50 | 15.2% |
K | Blair Walsh | $4,700 | 20.00 | 1.4% |
D | St.Louis Rams | $4,500 | 25.00 | 27.9% |
$59,900 | 224.32 |
Going through the top 10 teams in Week 7 of the Sunday Million it was Andrew Luck who was the top quarterback rostered as he appeared on 5 of the 10 teams. Philip Rivers was on 2 teams and Jameis Winston, Teddy Bridgewater, and Matthew Stafford were each on a single team. At running back it was Lamar Miller that all 10 teams had and Todd Gurley was on 9 of the top 10 with only Arian Foster on the other single entry. It was pretty telling that you needed both Lamar Miller and Todd Gurley locked into your RB roster slots and their reasonable prices helped you build the rest of your team at the key postions.
At WR it was T.Y. Hilton and Stefon Diggs that were each owned by 7 of the 10 teams. The other popular choices at the position were Mike Evans on 5 teams and Antonio Brown and Julio Jones each on 2 teams with Calvin Johnson, Keenan Allen, Amari Cooper, Michael Floyd, Eric Decker, Kendal Wright, and Jarvis Landry each on a single entry out of the top 10 entries. Although you have to try to hit 2 out of the three WR spots with similar players (Hilton and Diggs) you also have a lot of flexibility in the third WR position and the top ten always seems to show that you have plenty of options.
The tight end position had 4 entries with Rob Gronkowski, 2 with Jordan Reed and Ladarius Green and single entries with Greg Olsen and Travis Kelce. You could build a good team paying up for Gronkowski or you could still find a stud TE by paying down for the likes of Reed or Green. The kicker position was split evenly between Blair Walsh and Stephen Gostkowski with 5 entries each and the defense was dominated by the St. Louis Rams defense with 9 out of 10 entries selecting them.

***FanDuel's Week 8 Sunday Million will remain the same as Week 7 with $4,000,000 in prizes with 36,800 out of 183,908 people taking home some cash. First prize remains down from $1,000,000 to $500,000 but it will offer a more balanced payout structure. I only mention this ahead of time as this contest will probably sell out sooner with the total entries dropping by 46,000 from what we saw in Week 6.***
