FanDuel was back at it again with their massive Week 6 Sunday Million contest, requiring a $25 entry fee with 18,850 people getting paid out at least $40. This massive $1,600,000 million GPP tournament had 75,257 entries and filled completely for the second time this season as the first 4 weeks there was some good amounts of overlay. While the overlay has been great for the consumer it probably hasn't been the best for FanDuel itself so seeing their big contest fill has to be a good sign for the Sunday Million moving forward. Each week FanDuel will be running a Sunday Million GPP Contest and we will break it down here at Footballguys.com and see what the keys were to having the top lineup on the week and taking home the top prize of $300,000.
Here's how Week 6 of the Sunday Million shook out.
|
DFS Screen Name | Points | Prize Money |
1st | dago3 | 206.20 | $300,000 |
2nd | oaktownsj | 205.00 | $125,000 |
3rd | skada2015 | 202.26 | $70,000 |
4th | rsbath | 202.20 | $40,000 |
5th | fredmeyer09 | 202.10 | $25,000 |
The winner of FanDuel's Week 6 Sunday Million was dago3 who put up an impressive score of 206.20 points which was better than the second place oaktownsj's team by just 1.20 points. Dago3 built a solid team from top to bottom and started it with a super stack at QB/WR/TE with Drew Brees, Brandin Cooks, and Coby Fleener. There was no secret about how well Drew Brees plays at home in the dome and the matchup was a great one against the Panthers this week and Brees delivered with 33.60 points at 15.6% ownership while Cooks went for 27.00 points at 15.0% and Fleener for 22.60 at only 6.2% ownership.
He followed his super stack up with the top two running backs on the week in LeSean McCoy and Lamar Miller who scored 33.20 and 31.30 points respectably. These two running backs were no secret heading into the week as they had the two best rushing matchups on the board with McCoy against the 49ers and Miller against the Colts. Although McCoy's ownership ended up around 29.8% and Miller at just 14.4% they were lesser owned for a big GPP such as the Sunday Million and although they were priced at $8200 and $7900 they still weren't priced too high were it made it hard to build out the rest of your roster.
The next big play on dago3's team was going with Odell Beckham Jra week after everyone was on him and he burned a lot of people. This is always the case in DFS as you see a player highly owned one week and not deliver so that drives down his ownership the following week as players are not willing to get burnt two weeks in a row. Beckham easily had his best game of the season as he put up 36.20 fantasy points at only 8.0% owned and was surprisingly only priced at $8300. Beckham posted 222 receiving yards which is the most he has had in a single game in his career and he had 8 catches and 2 of which went for touchdowns. The one spot that he did miss on was his punt selection at WR as he went with Breshad Perriman at $4900 who was just 1.4% owned but disappointed with just 6.30 fantasy points.
At kicker he went with Mason Crosby at near minimum price of $4600 and at only 7.9% ownership. Crosby did what you want you kicker to do and get over double digit points as he went for 11.0. At defense he went with the low owned Green Bay Packers at just 1.6% for $4500 and they put up just 5.0 points. It was a week where the kicker and defense positions didn't have players that put up a lot of points so you were fine by just having players with average games in these spots. Dago3's team was solid all around with Brees, McCoy, Miller, Cooks, Beckham Jr, Fleener all putting up 22.60 points or higher. With all those positions putting up such big numbers it was fine for Perriman and the Packers defense to just put up 6.30 and 5.00 points.
Dago3's team did use the entire $60,000 salary cap and did have a super stack and an opposing team stack with Beckham Jr and Perriman. It also had a kicker and defense stack with Mason Crosby and the Packers defense. This is one time where we see a winning team have three different types of stacks and how they can drive your team to the top of the leaderboard. Dago3 has the "Experienced" player tag next to his name and he was one of three with that player tag in the top 10. The other 7 players in the top 10 had the "Highly Experienced" player tag.
Position | Player | Salary | FanDuel Points | % Owned |
QB | Drew Brees | $8,500 | 33.60 | 15.6% |
RB | LeSean McCoy | $8,200 | 33.20 | 29.8% |
RB | Lamar Miller | $7,900 | 31.30 | 14.4% |
WR | Brandin Cooks | $7,500 | 27.00 | 15.0% |
WR | Odell Beckham Jr/td> | $8,300 | 36.20 | 8.0% |
WR | Breshad Perriman | $4,900 | 6.30 | 1.4% |
TE | Coby Fleener | $5,600 | 22.60 | 6.2% |
K | Mason Crosby | $4,600 | 11.00 | 7.9% |
D | Green Bay Packers | $4,500 | 5.00 | 1.6% |
$60,000 | 206.20 |
WHAT WORKED?
Super Stacking -- The super stack of Drew Brees, Brandin Cooks, and Coby Fleener was on 7 of the top 10 teams and another one had Brees, Fleener and Michael Thomas as the Saints were clearly the passing offense that you wanted to load up on. The stack of Brees/Cooks/Fleener gave you a combined 83.20 points and put you well ahead of the field regardless of how you constructed the rest of your roster. The other stack we saw in the top 10 was Matthew Stafford and Golden Tate as they were paired together on the fourth place team.
Having faith in Odell Beckham Jr/strong> -- Beckham Jr was one of the most popular plays last week and he let a lot of people down with only 14.10 points scored but for those having faith in him this week got rewarded in a big way with 36.20 points at only an 8.0% ownership. Those that opted for other expensive options such as Antonio Brown were vastly disappointed and if you took Beckham you were rewarded with the big points and the low ownership. DFS is always a funny game as people often like to play the players who are coming off big games and fading the players that disappointed the week before. The trick is trying to be one week ahead of the field and finding that breakout player before anyone else is on him.
Playing the matchups at Running Back -- Both the 49ers and the Colts run defenses have been at the bottom of the NFL all season and this week the writing was on the wall for both LeSean McCoy and Lamar Miller to have big games and they did so with ease. McCoy took on the 49ers and scored 33.20 FanDuel points with 140 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns along with 2 catches for 2 yards. Miller got the Colts at home and went for 149 rushing yards and a touchdown and 3 catches for 29 yards and another touchdown. If you can find a good rushing matchup at home with a good running back going it should be hard to fade moving forward.
WHAT FAILED?
Tight Ends not named Coby Fleener -- Coby Fleener was the tight end of the week and at just $5600 he was also the best bang for your buck. He grabbed 6 passes for 74 yards and had a pair of touchdowns on the day and out scored the popular plays such as Delanie Walker and Travis Kelce with ease. Tight End has been a hard spot to predict all season in DFS so hitting the right play each week is so important especially at a position that you only have to roster one player at the position.
The Pittsburgh Steelers -- There has been so much hype surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers offense all season as they have been one of the fantasy gold mines to date. A road game against the Miami Dolphins looked like a prime spot for the Steelers to put up some big fantasy points once again but that was far from the truth as the Dolphins held the Steelers to just 15 points and touchdowns came from two unlikely fantasy relevant players in Darrius Heyward-Bey on a 60 yard touchdown run and Cobi Hamilton on two catches for 36 yards and a touchdown. The likely stars such as Ben Roethlisberger, LeVeon Bell and Antonio Brown all struggled to make plays and all cost a pretty penny on FanDuel so if you rostered anyone of them your team was likely in very rough shape.
