This article will take a weekly look at players who are overvalued in a given week. Negative value is when a player offers more long-term value than he does for this week. The basis for this value will be the difference between the Top 200 forward, a look at the top 200 players with the whole season in mind, and the weekly rankings. Both of these are from the Footballguys.com subscriber content. An emphasis will be on the players with the largest differences between the season outlook and this week only. Also, a preference will be given to differences for the higher ranked players. Some of these differences will be due to injury, matchup of the week, or short-term situation. Now, let's take a look at this week's negative value players.
Quarterback
Top 200 ranking: 14
Weekly ranking: 16
Difference: -2
Tannehill is coming off a few good performances in the past few weeks. We do not like his chances of having a big outing this week in Detroit. The Lions are coming off a bye week and will be prepared for the athletic quarterback. Let's not forget how well the Detroit offense has played this season. Tannehill was not a starter for many fantasy teams anyway, but there are better options available on many waiver wires.
Top 200 ranking: 6
Weekly ranking: 9
Difference: -3
Wilson is coming off a poor performance in what looked to be an awesome matchup against the Oakland Raiders. We are expecting another disappointing outing this week as the Seahawks host the New York Giants. The Giants are not as bad as they showed against the Indianapolis Colts last Monday night, and could possibly score the upset.
Running Back
Top 200 ranking: 3
Weekly ranking: 11
Difference: -8
Charles has enjoyed another strong season int eh Andy Reid offense. This week's matchup in Buffalo will be a much stiffer test than most realize. The Bills defense is not a fluke and has been able to shut down opposing running backs. We still have Charles as a fantasy RB1, just not a top-tier back like most weeks.
Top 200 ranking: 11
Weekly ranking: 16
Difference: -5
Miller looks to be healthy after the injury scare a week ago. We do not like his matchup in Detroit against the fierce defensive line of the Lions. Miller should get plenty of carries, but few big plays and likely no scores. With so many runners jumping up the rankings this week, Miller is expected to have a rough day carrying the ball.
Top 200 ranking: 25
Weekly ranking: 31
Difference: -6
This difference is bigger than it looks, just like with Miller above. Six of the 25 ball carriers ahead of ivory in the Top 200 forward are on bye this week, yet the Jets tailback is low in the rankings. We do not like his chances of a big outing against the Pittsburgh Steelers as the Jets will be forced to throw the ball just to keep up with Roethlisberger and company. Many times, New York pulls Ivory out of the game in passing situations and puts Chris Johnson in the game. This could be the majority of the game.
Wide Receiver
Top 200 ranking: 19
Weekly ranking: 37
Difference: -18
Boldin has quietly enjoyed another strong campaign even though the 49ers offense has not been crisp. However, we do not like his chances for a big outing in New Orleans against the Saints. The Saints play great at home, on both sides of the ball. This will be a tough game for the San Francisco pass offense, even as they try to keep pace with Drew Brees and the pass-happy New Orleans offense.
Top 200 ranking: 13
Weekly ranking: 35
Difference: -23
We are expecting the rookie to see a lot of Richard Sherman as the Giants travel to the Seahawks in a big game for each team. Monday night's game against the Colts showed everyone that Beckham is a much more explosive option compared to Rueben Randle, and he should get plenty of attention, even if not on Sherman's side of the field.
Top 200 ranking: 15
Weekly ranking: 23
Difference: -8
Tate will be impacted by the return of Calvin Johnson this week. Johnson will see his share of targets. The Lions host the Dolphins in a big game for the playoff hopes of each team. Miami has a strong pass defense and will limit the upside of all pass catchers not named Calvin. He is matchup-proof as evidenced by the past few years.
Tight End
Top 200 ranking: 6
Weekly ranking: 10
Difference: -4
Walker has cooled off since rookie Zach Mettenberger joined the starting lineup. We do not like his chances of playing well against a motivated and embarrassed Baltimore after the Ravens were routed in Pittsburgh last week. Walker will not see the high number of targets while the first-year passer is starting.
