Which players are buying heading into Week 13 after their recent struggles?
JAMES BRIMACOMBE
Aaron Rodgers – Yes, I am buying Rodgers this week, hoping for under 10% ownership and a leverage play against those that will be loading up on both Mahomes and Lamar Jackson this week.
Mike Evans – It feels as if Chris Godwin and Mike Evans take turns at who will have the big week. If it is as simple as that, this week would have Evans in line for a huge stat line. Either way, it feels like he comes with a safe floor or 8 targets with a ceiling of 12 plus, I will be taking some shots on him once again this week.
PHIL ALEXANDER
- Saquon Barkley - When I look back on the 2019 season, Barkley will be the player who cost me the most money. My love for his game has blinded me to the facts that the Giants stink, he hasn't been at full health for nearly the entire season and Daniel Jones is not the check-down machine Eli Manning was. But New York is at home, Barkley is another week removed from aggravating his ankle injury, and the way to move the ball against Green Bay is on the ground. If Barkley is going to remind us why he went first overall in most redraft leagues back in August, he won't get a much better game environment this season.
DAN HINDERY
Darren Waller is in a good spot to rekindle some of that early-season magic. He has been solid in recent weeks but had been usurped as Derek Carr’s go-to third-down target by Hunter Renfrow. With Renfrow now out due to broken ribs and a punctured lung, I expect Waller to see a couple of extra targets than he has been seeing over the past month. Game script should also help Waller. It is unlikely that Oakland will be able to ground and pound and hope to keep up with Patrick Mahomes II and the Chiefs offense. Gruden is going to have to open things up, which should lead to more attempts for Carr and more targets for Waller. We are also getting Waller at a discount due to his mediocre fantasy production in recent weeks. He is priced down at TE9 on FanDuel, right between Gerald Everett and Jimmy Graham.
Carson Wentz should get back on track this week as long as Alshon Jeffery is able to return. A big part of Wentz’s struggles of late are due to the fact he has been forced to play with inexperienced, mistake-prone young wide receivers. Getting a trusty target like Jeffery back would go a long way. The matchup is also fantastic. Wentz has been playing top defenses in bad weather of late. Miami’s defense is the worst in the NFL and temperatures in the 70s will be a welcomed site for Wentz and the Philly offense.
I have had a hard time figuring out which Tampa Bay receiver to play from week-to-week this season. It has been frustrating rostering Mike Evans only to see Chris Godwin put up huge numbers (and vice versa other weeks). Regardless, there is value every week in targeting Evans. He has a relatively high floor. Aside from the one week Marshon Lattimore shut him down, Evans has had at least four catches and 50+ yards in each of his last 10 games. He also has a ceiling as high as any wide receiver in the NFL. Evans has two games of 190+ yards and multiple touchdowns this season. When Evans has failed to meet expectations, it has typically been due to seeing less targets due to a top shadow corner on the other side. With Jalen Ramsey gone, Jacksonville doesn’t have anyone who fits that description. It feels like we are due for on of those weeks where James Winston locks onto Evans and targets him 12+ times.
