Reiff is a well-coached and talented player out of Iowa, thought to be a top-10 pick at one point, but his lack of elite measurable (sub-par arm-length and agility) pushed him down the draft board. Unlike other Iowa offensive linemen, Reiff was known as a technically superior pass protector, and a bit of a finesse player in the run game. Reiff is expected to battle long time veteran Jeff Backus for the starting left tackle position, but it is not certain that he will actually win that job as a rookie. The coaching staff is rumored to value the cohesion of bringing back Backus over the possible upgrade of replacing him with Reiff. More likely Reiff will be limited to swing tackle duties as a rookie and hope to win the job outright when Backus retires in a year or two. In the near term, the fantasy impact of Reiff's selection will likely be minimal. In the long term, he could hold the key to keeping Matthew Stafford healthy.
