Quarterback

*** Saturday Update *** QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (BUF) The Bills could save $4.45 million in salary cap space if they decide to release Ryan Fitzpatrick before the second day of the 2013 NFL year which comes in March. The team is scheduled to pay a $3 million roster bonus to Ryan Fitzpatrick on that date and his salary cap number would jump to $10.45 million if he is paid the bonus.

*** Saturday Update *** QB Tim Tebow (NYJ) is a "virtual certainty" to be part of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2013 according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

*** Saturday Update *** QB Michael Vick (PHI) said he remains capable of being a starting quarterback in the NFL and hopes to receive another opportunity in 2013. "I'm not a backup. Just being honest, just being candid. I'm a full-fledged starter," Vick said. "That's what I've got in me, that's what I provide, that's what I offer. Whatever happens, wherever I end up, they're going to get 110 percent. You're going to get the same thing out of me that you got the last two, three years and that's 110 percent effort and a guy that's confident in his abilities to play and win ... I want to start. Yeah, I'm a starter. I'll feel that way until I start to feel like I'm becoming a problem on the team." The Eagles are 10-12 since Vick signed a $100 million contract in August 2011. He has 27 touchdown passes and 21 interceptions in that span.

*** Saturday Update *** QB Robert Griffin III (WAS) has been cleared by the medical staff and will start Sunday.

Running Back

*** Saturday Update *** RB Bernard Pierce (BAL) is expected to be active for Week 16 after passing his concussion tests this week.

*** Saturday Update *** RB Ray Rice (BAL) is on pace to finish with his fewest rushing and receiving yards since his rookie season. Barring a dramatic workload increase over the final two games, Rice will have his fewest carries since 2009, his first year as a starter. Rice, however, feels his lack of involvement is tied to the overall struggles of the offense. "If we execute at a high level, we execute on third down, there's no doubt in my mind that I'm coming out of the game with 18 to 25 touches," Rice said when asked about how he is used and his number of carries. "When you're getting three-and-outs, three-and-outs, three-and-outs, and then the other team is scoring, there's no time to hand the ball off to Ray Rice. That's just being honest about your touches. My touches are going to come when we execute at a high level. I'm just trying to stay effective. Obviously, I know my role on the offense hasn't changed."

*** Saturday Update *** RB Ahmad Bradshaw (NYG) is traveling with the team for their Week 16 game. He is listed as questionable for the game. We believe he will play and start.

*** Saturday Update *** RB LeSean McCoy (PHI) Although LeSean McCoy will start in the team's Week 16 game, head coach Andy Reid said he is expected to be eased back into the lineup. "I'm going to keep an eye on him. He's not going to play the whole game, every snap of the game," Reid said. "We'll monitor him as we go and see how he does." Bryce Brown could be in a heavy rotation with McCoy during the game.

Wide Receiver

*** Saturday Update *** WR Alshon Jeffery (CHI) Bears coaching staff is concerned Alshon Jeffery's play could be affected by three offensive pass interference penalties in Week 15. The team does not want Jeffery to change the way he plays. "The thing I'm trying to make sure of is that it doesn't destroy him from a mental standpoint," said receivers coach Darryl Drake. "He's fragile right now but that's part of it ... Are you going to sit back and sulk or are you going to do something about it? You've still got to play the game physical so you can't give in on that. You have to turn it into something positive."

*** Saturday Update *** WR Stephen Hill (NYJ) will have athroscopic surgery next week on his left knee to repair cartilage damage suffered Dec. 2, according to his agent. Hill should be able to recover from the surgery in time to participate in the team's offseason training program.

*** Saturday Update *** WR Sidney Rice (SEA) Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll indicated the team wants to see how Sidney Rice runs before deciding his availability for Week 16. "He feels pretty good right now. But we've got to get to game day and run him and see how he can tolerate it. He thinks he's playing. He feels like he's going to," Carroll said.

Tight End

*** Saturday Update *** TE Rob Gronkowski (NE) did not travel with the team and is out for Week 16.

*** Saturday Update *** TE Travis Beckum (NYG) is not traveling with the team for their Week 16 game and will not play.

*** Saturday Update *** TE Evan Moore (PHI) likely will be the No. 2 tight end in Week 16 despite being signed earlier this week. We're not expecting a lot of targets for Moore this week. Brent Celek returns to the lineup and should be the team's primary TE in week 16.

Kicker

Offensive Line

*** Saturday Update *** OL Carolina Panthers (CAR) Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said the team's medical staff has told him C Ryan Kalil (foot) should be ready for offseason workouts as well as minicamp.

*** Saturday Update *** OL Dallas Cowboys (DAL) G Ronald Leary is not expected to be active for Week 16 despite being added to the active roster. The team added Leary to their active roster because another team was interested in signing him and they did not want to lose him.

*** Saturday Update *** OL Green Bay Packers (GB) The Green Bay Packers announced Saturday, Dec. 22, they have added T Don Barclay (illness) to the injury report for Week 16. His status for the game is questionable.

Defensive Tackle

Defensive End

*** Saturday Update *** DE Justin Tuck (NYG) appears unlikely to play in the team's Week 16 game. Tuck is listed as questionable. Tuck, however, is traveling with the team for their Week 16 game and will be a game-time decision.

*** Saturday Update *** DE Stephen Bowen (WAS) said his range of motion is not 100 percent because of his torn biceps but he should be able to play. He said the strength in the injured biceps is improving.

Inside Linebacker

*** Saturday Update *** ILB Ray Lewis (BAL) is not expected to come off the Injured Reserve/Designated to Return list before the end of the regular season. He could return for the playoffs if he is healthy enough.

Outside Linebacker

*** Saturday Update *** OLB Jameel McClain (BAL) The Ravens have placed Jameel McClain (neck) on Injured Reserve. In a corresponding move, the team signed LB Adrian Hamilton to their active roster.

*** Saturday Update *** OLB DeMarcus Ware (DAL) is far from 100 percent at this point in the season; however, he said he will be available for Week 16. Ware has been bothered by a stinger at times this season and is currently slowed by right shoulder and right elbow injuries. "I'm feeling good enough to play on Sunday, so that's good," Ware said.

Cornerback

*** Saturday Update *** CB Chris Cook (MIN) Vikings have activated Chris Cook from the Injured Reserve/Designated to Return list. Cook will play in the team's Week 16 game. Head coach Leslie Frazier said after practice Friday, Dec. 21, that he's satisfied with Cook's progress and was in the process of determining how much to use him in the game, whether back in his starting spot or as the third cornerback in the nickel package.

*** Saturday Update *** CB Jeron Johnson (SEA) Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Jeron Johnson suffered his groin injury during practice this week. Carroll said the injury is not considered serious and that Johnson has a good chance to play Week 16.

*** Saturday Update *** CB Richard Sherman (SEA) had his appeal of a four-game suspension heard Friday, Dec. 21; however, head coach Pete Carroll expects to have Sherman in the lineup for Week 16. "I'm anticipating we'll have him," Carroll said. "We know nothing else at this point." "Been a long day but very productive," Sherman wrote on his Twitter page. "I will be out there with my teammates Sunday!"

*** Saturday Update *** CB Walter Thurmond (SEA) Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said he expects Walter Thurmond (hamstring) will be a game-time decision for Week 16.

*** Saturday Update *** CB Marcus Trufant (SEA) Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said he expects Marcus Trufant (hamstring) will be a game-time decision for Week 16.

Safety

*** Saturday Update *** S Charles Woodson (GB) said he doesn't need to play in the team's Week 17 game to be ready for a postseason return, but he'd like to if he is cleared. Woodson has missed two months with a broken collarbone.

Also, Woodson said he plans to return for a 16th NFL season in 2013 and hopes it is with the Packers. "Until somebody tells me I'm not, this is where I plan on playing," said Woodson, who is under contract through 2014. "I haven't had that conversation. If that conversation comes around, it comes around, but as far as I know is, anything that I expect is that I'll be a Green Bay Packer. That's all I have to say about that."

*** Saturday Update *** S Roman Harper (NO) could be released this offseason if the team wants to gain some salary cap space.

General Team News

*** Saturday Update *** TM Buffalo Bills (BUF) Bills general manager Buddy Nix said the team will look to trade up in the NFL Draft to select a quarterback. "Let me say this: I think there's a time that in the era that you're in and the development of your team, there's a time when you can move up a round to take a quarterback," Nix said. "And I think the time's now for us. I mean, if a guy's there - I keep saying that, and there will be one out there - if the guy's there, then I think we'll target - as I've said before - drafting a good quarterback. We need a good, young quarterback, and we're going to do our best to get him."

*** Saturday Update *** TM New York Jets (NYJ) Jets offensive coordinator Tony Sparano may not return in 2013. Sparano's offense has lacked imagination, and he never found a way to creatively involve Tim Tebow.

*** Saturday Update *** TM San Diego Chargers (SD) The Chargers reportedly could look to hire New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels as their next head coach this offseason.

All the news

Quarterback

QB Kevin Kolb (ARI) The Arizona Cardinals may decide to release Kevin Kolb following the 2012 season. Kolb has played just 15 of a possible 32 games for the team in his two seasons in the desert. "Clearly Arizona has to do something at the quarterback position, and more than likely I think they'll wipe themselves out after two years of the Kevin Kolb experiment," ESPN NFL insider John Clayton said. "I don't know if they move on Alex Smith or draft a quarterback, but they've got to do something."

*** Thursday Update *** QB Joe Flacco (BAL) remains optimistic he will eventually sign a contract extension with the team. "This is a great organization and you're always upbeat about that," Flacco said. Flacco is expected to be named the Ravens' franchise player, barring a breakthrough in contract negotiations after the season.

QB Brandon Weeden (CLE) Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said he never considered pulling Brandon Weeden in the team's Week 15 game.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Tony Romo (DAL) said he believes the offense can win games in the fourth quarter, even if trailing by as many as two touchdowns. "Really, it's just we've gotten to a point where we're a mentally tough football team," Romo said. "In saying that, I believe when I step on the field in the fourth quarter, if we're within 10-14 points, we're going to find a way to win the ballgame." In the Cowboys' last six games they have been tied or trailed entering the fourth quarter. They are 5-1 in those games, averaging 15.67 fourth-quarter points.

QB Tony Romo (DAL) has reached the 4,000-yard passing mark for the fourth time in his career. No Cowboys quarterback, including former Cowboys Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman, achieved that feat more than once.

QB Peyton Manning (DEN) Broncos head coach John Fox said he has no plans to rest Peyton Manning. "That has not been an option, and not something that we'll talk about," Fox said. "Right now, our main agenda is to get better and improve so we can be playing our best football in January." Fox also said he has no plans to rest any of his starters in the final two weeks of the season.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Matthew Stafford (DET) defended his throwing mechanics by saying he does not feel like he's overusing a sidearm or three-quarter delivery. "I really don't feel like it's too much different, to tell you the truth" Stafford said. "I'm just trying to make the plays that are there ... I feel like I probably threw two balls sidearm (in Week 15) and I think both of them were complete. If that's a problem, then I don't really know what to tell you."

QB Matthew Stafford (DET) Lions head coach Jim Schwartz never thought about making a quarterback change in the team's Week 15 game. "I think [Matthew Stafford] is our best quarterback and if he's healthy enough he's going to play," Schwartz said. "I don't want to farm somebody else's land, but why didn't the Saints replace Drew Brees after four (interceptions)?"

*** Friday Update *** QB Aaron Rodgers (GB) practiced fully on Friday and is expected to play this weekend.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Aaron Rodgers (GB) practiced fully on Thursday.

*** Friday Update *** QB Andrew Luck (IND) practiced fully on Friday and is expected to play this weekend.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Andrew Luck (IND) practiced fully on Wednesday.

QB Andrew Luck (IND) has completed just 46 percent of his passes over the last three weeks. Luck has been guilty of overthrowing many of his receivers. "That's a fair assessment," Luck said. "I'm not setting my feet and (I'm) getting the ball up. We'll work on it and move on to next week. We'll work on it in practice and try to get better."

*** Friday Update *** QB Brady Quinn (KC) practiced fully on Friday and is expected to play this weekend.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Brady Quinn (KC) practiced fully on Thursday.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Brady Quinn (KC) practiced fully on Wednesday.

QB Brady Quinn (KC) Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel said Brady Quinn injured his ribs during the team's Week 15 game. Crennel did not rule out the possibility of Ricky Stanzi starting Week 16 because of the injury.

QB Ricky Stanzi (KC) could see playing time in the final two regular season games. "There's a possibility...we'll see what (QB Brady Quinn) looks like and then we'll make some decisions and go from there," head coach Romeo Crennel said Monday, Dec. 17. Quinn is dealing with an injury to his ribs.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Tom Brady (NE) did not practice on Wednesday .

*** Thursday Update *** QB Greg McElroy (NYJ) received every snap at quarterback in practice Wednesday, Dec. 19. Head coach Rex Ryan is also not yet ready to reveal the team's No. 2 quarterback.

QB Greg McElroy (NYJ) will start for the Jets in Week 16.

*** Friday Update *** QB Mark Sanchez (NYJ) practiced fully on Friday and is expected to be available to play this weekend. Sanchez is expected to be the No. 2 quarterback behind starter Greg McElroy in Week 16. It's possible that the Jets will have three active quarterbacks against the San Diego Chargers.

Two sources familiar with the situation said Mark Sanchez is likely to be with the Jets next season.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Mark Sanchez (NYJ) practiced fully on Thursday.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Mark Sanchez (NYJ) Jets will explore all options in the offseason with Mark Sanchez, including a trade. Trading Sanchez will be difficult because of an $8.25 million guarantee in 2013 in his contract. However, the Jets are taking an open-minded approach and may be willing to start over at quarterback.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Mark Sanchez (NYJ) practiced fully on Wednesday.

QB Mark Sanchez (NYJ) Now that they have been eliminated from the playoffs, the Jets are expected to bench Mark Sanchez for Week 16.

*** Saturday Update *** QB Tim Tebow (NYJ) is a "virtual certainty" to be part of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2013 according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

*** Friday Update *** QB Tim Tebow (NYJ) practiced fully on Friday and is expected to be available to play this weekend.

Also, the Jets plan on either trading or releasing Tim Tebow before free agency begins next March, according to a source. "Rex (Ryan) and Tony (Sparano) had no idea how to use him," the source said. The team was shocked with how poorly Tebow practiced shortly after he was acquired from the Denver Broncos. The market for Tebow this offseason is expected to be pretty thin, but Houston Texans general manager Charley Casserly suggested that New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels may be willing to take Tebow on if he lands a head coaching position somewhere. Tebow continues to view himself as a full-time quarterback.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Tim Tebow (NYJ) practiced fully on Thursday.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Tim Tebow (NYJ) practiced fully on Wednesday.

Tebow reportedly will request to be traded or released after the season assuming that Greg McElroy starts the final two games. Tebow's desire to part ways with the Jets came to a head after McElroy leapfrogged him on the depth chart, according to a source.

When the Denver Broncos initially floated the idea of trading Tebow last year, the Jacksonville Jaguars and St. Louis Rams, as well as the New York Jets, were interested in acquiring Tebow. The Jaguars naturally still make the most sense to look to add Tebow if the Jets release or trade him this offseason. "It only takes one team to keep his career alive, but I think everyone in a position of power knows he can't play quarterback," one NFL personnel man said.

QB Tim Tebow (NYJ) Jets head coach Rex Ryan said the team may find a way to incorporate Tim Tebow into the Week 16 game plan against the San Diego Chargers, according to a source. Greg McElroy will receive the start over Mark Sanchez.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Carson Palmer (OAK) said offensive coordinator Greg Knapp told players at the start of the season his offense would take time to learn. The Raiders have struggled running the football and scoring points in 2012. "We're not going to come out and understand all the zone cuts and all the reads and have a real continuity with it up front with five guys working together," Palmer said. "He said it was going to take some time and these last couple weeks, we've really seen that progress come together and make consistent plays in the running game."

QB Terrelle Pryor (OAK) Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said he's unsure how much playing time they'll give Terrelle Pryor in the final two games. Allen said that will be determined on a game-by-game basis.

*** Friday Update *** QB Michael Vick (PHI) practiced fully on Friday and is expected to be available to play this weekend.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Michael Vick (PHI) practiced fully on Thursday.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Michael Vick (PHI) practiced fully on Wednesday.

Vick would not want to join the New York Jets if Mark Sanchez is still the starter, according to sources who have spoken with Vick. He would consider signing with the Jets, however, if he were paid more than Sanchez, making it clear that Vick was No. 1 on the depth chart. Vick believes he has another four years left in the NFL and wants to be a starter with whatever team signs him in the event he is released by the team, according to sources who have spoken with the quarterback. Sources close to Vick said he might wait to see if Oregon head coach Chip Kelly decides to take an NFL coaching job in the offseason, adding that Vick has already imagined himself playing in Kelly's fast-paced spread offense.

QB Michael Vick (PHI) said Monday, Dec. 17, his job currently is to help Nick Foles. Vick added, however, that he would like to play. "I want to get out there, I want to play, but it's not the ideal situation right now," Vick said. Eagles head coach Andy Reid said he has not decided whether Vick will be the backup quarterback or the third-string quarterback in Week 16.

QB Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) Although Ben Roethlisberger placed blame on himself for the team's Week 15 loss, he also questioned the playcalling. When asked why Heath Miller didn't have a single pass thrown his way in the second half, Roethlisberger replied, "I just don't think we called the right plays to get him the ball." And when asked why the team didn't run more no-huddle offense in the second half, Roethlisberger acknowledged he wished they had done more. "That's tough for me to answer right now," Roethlisberger said. "The second half we didn't do much of it, and that's disappointing."

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Alex Smith (SF) Packers QB Aaron Rodgers said he believes Alex Smith deserves to start for a team in 2013, a team that appreciates his skills. If Colin Kaepernick remains as the starter for the 49ers, Smith will likely be playing elsewhere. "He comes in, he's (got a) 70 percent completion (percentage), he's (got a) 100-plus quarterback rating. Last year, he's like barely over one percent interception percentage," Rodgers said of Smith. "He's a great quarterback, he just needs to go somewhere he gets appreciated for the skills he has and hopefully he gets a chance next year."

QB Josh Freeman (TB) Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano praised Josh Freeman, saying he will be fine with hard work. "Those who work hard and persevere will be fine, and Josh is one of those people," Schiano said.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Robert Griffin III (WAS) practiced fully on Thursday. Griffin is expected to play in Week 16. "It's going to be day by day. If there's no setbacks, doctors feel he should be ready to go," head coach Mike Shanahan said. "He had a good practice. Obviously he's not 100 percent yet. Everybody knows that." Griffin said he doesn't plan on adjusting his style of play after his injury.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Robert Griffin III (WAS) practiced fully on Wednesday. Observers say he was moving around well during positional drills. Griffin said he felt no weakness or instability in his sprained right knee Wednesday, Dec. 19, and is ready to play. "I'm ready to play when they want me to play," Griffin said. "Whether it's this week, next week, four weeks. Whatever they say goes. I'll be ready.". Head coach Mike Shanahan said Griffin will start against the Philadelphia Eagles barring any setbacks.

QB Robert Griffin III (WAS) Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said Robert Griffin III will return when he gets the green light from doctors. Shanahan said Griffin will not be held back.

RB Ray Rice (BAL) had 15 touches for 41 yards in Week 15, his first game under new offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell. Rice posted season lows with 41 yards from scrimmage and a 2.7 yards per touch average. He was targeted on 18 plays (12 rushes, three receptions on five targets), none of which came on third down. The game marked the fourth time this season Rice did not touch the ball on third down. Rice said the differences between Caldwell's game plan and former coordinator Cam Cameron's were minimal. *** Thursday Update *** RB Trent Richardson (CLE) practiced fully on Thursday.

*** Wednesday Update *** RB Trent Richardson (CLE) practiced fully on Wednesday. Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said he hasn't thought about benching Richardson in the final two games of the season. Richardson is not 100% healthy but has a great nose for the endzone. The team has Montario Hardesty as the primary backup but we're not expecting him to get many carries unless Richardson is out.

RB Trent Richardson (CLE) was unhappy with the team's offensive game plan in Week 15. Richardson had 24 yards and a touchdown on his first four carries midway through the first quarter; however, he would finish with 28 yards on 11 attempts - including just two carries in the second half which failed to gain a yard. "We (were) ready for the game," Richardson said. "I think we've just got a game plan, and the game plan we had at the beginning of the game, I think we should've stuck with it. But we didn't stick with the game plan and we tried to go do some other stuff, and the outcome came in a different way." The Browns had just 15 rushes as opposed to 35 passes in a game in which they didn't fall behind by two scores until midway through the third quarter.

However, McCarthy is encouraged with the progress of Green and expects him to play in Week 16. If Green can't play this week we'll see Ryan Grant and DuJuan Harris split time at the RB position. "Obviously our focus is to keep our wild card spot that we have right now and making the playoffs is our No. 1 goal," Ponder said. "But we obviously really want Adrian to get that record and we are going to keep handing the ball off to him and if he keeps doing what he's doing, especially the past eight games, then hopefully he'll achieve that record. "He needs to play. That's why I haven't sat him down because of the fumbles," Reid said of Brown, responsible for four turnovers in four starts. "I felt like he did miss a lot, he missed a lot of football. The thing he needs most is to be out there and playing and learning the game. He's wired the right way. RB Rashard Mendenhall (PIT) returned to the team Monday, Dec. 17, after serving a one-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team. We'll see if the team and Mendenhall can mend their frosty relationship. He was suspended for not showing up to the week 14 game because he was a healthy scratch. Jonathan Dwyer has starter in his place and hasn't exactly wowed the team. There's a chance Mendenhall could get more playing time over the last two weeks of the year.

*** Thursday Update *** RB Isaac Redman (PIT) feels the offense has abandoned the running game in recent weeks. The Steelers have 17 rushes in each of their past two games - the first time the team has had fewer than 20 rushing attempts in consecutive games since 1991. Pittsburgh's 34 rushing attempts the previous two weeks were the fewest in the NFL, and their 138 yards rushing over that span is third-worst in the league. "Some games, it feels like we just go away from it," Redman said. "We didn't run the ball bad (against the Dallas Cowboys), we weren't getting smashed the last game, we just didn't run it that much. We had 16 or 17 runs. When we were winning games, we were up in the 30 mark and we pretty much win when we do that. Hopefully, we can get back to that."

*** Wednesday Update *** RB Jackie Battle (SD) Chargers head coach Norv Turner didn't reveal his plans at running back in Week 16 after Ryan Mathews (clavicle) was placed on the Injured Reserve. And Brink (Curtis Brinkley ) played some yesterday, though I don't know that he would play on third down. And we'll probably add Edwin Baker to the 53-man roster. Mathews broke his right clavicle in the preseason. Kharrazi said there is nothing structurally wrong with Mathews' shoulders, and he expects the clavicle to heal at full strength. Kharrazi also said he does not expect Mathews to break either of his clavicles in the future.

"I told them early in the locker room, 'We can't keep ducking people and say, 'We don't want to play these guys, we don't want to play those guys,''" White said. "We're a good football team. WR Dez Bryant (DAL) Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Sunday, Dec. 16, Dez Bryant will likely require a bone graft to fill in his fracture, a procedure that might involve extracting bone tissue from Bryant's hip. Bryant agreed a bone graft might be in order, but said he'd prefer a frozen bone from a donor before pulling material from another part of his body.

Bryant downplayed the pain he played through in Week 15 and said he'll be ready to suit up again in Week 16 against the New Orleans Saints. "The finger feels fine," said Bryant, a third-year receiver with career high of 79 catches, 1,087 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. "I'm strapping up and playing New Orleans. "It's pretty impressive. He's really improved a lot. The greatest compliment for him is he probably is not going to mind too much being overlooked." That's a big part of my game, so I feel a lot better than I did at the beginning." He's coming off an eight-game stretch in which he has 68 catches for 1,002 yards. Jerry wants that. I want that.' His teammates asked him to come and be down there with them."

On Monday, however, it was reported that Brent will not be permitted to be on the sidelines for a game the remainder of the season. The team and league office were unaware that Brent would be on the sideline in Week 15. Both the team and the league are in complete agreement that it was not appropriate.

Urlacher was not optimistic things will change. "It's not going to change," he said. "If we talk about it, then the media says, 'You're blaming the fans for losing. You're doing this. You're blaming the refs.' We lost that football game. Every football game we play in, we lose, it's nobody's fault but ours, but we're allowed to say what we want."

Urlacher defended head coach Lovie Smith by saying critics, both media and fans, do not know what they are talking about. Many local fans and media have been calling for a coaching change. "Two of the people I don't care about, fans or the media," Urlacher said. "They can say what they want to about our head our coach, about our players. It does bother me because those people don't know what they're talking about, obviously ... I know there are a bunch of experts in the media, and there are a bunch of smart guys out there who know exactly what they're talking about all the time. But they don't know what they're talking about."

TM Buffalo Bills (BUF) Bills head coach Chan Gailey defended his team's effort in their 50-17 loss in Week 15, a game in which the Bills fell behind 31-7 in the second quarter and never recovered. "I think the effort was there," Gailey said. "I never question our guys' character or effort. I question our execution, but I don't question our effort. When you play bad it looks like you're not playing hard. But I don't think (effort) is ever the question." Gailey said the team wasn't underprepared for the Seattle Seahawks and particularly their read-option offense.

*** Wednesday Update *** TM Cleveland Browns (CLE) Browns CEO Joe Banner said decisions regarding the futures of head coach Pat Shurmur and general manager Tom Heckert will be made quickly after the season. "I don't want to say if it's one day or two days or three days but I think it will be quickly," Banner said. No decisions have been made as of this point, according to Banner. Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels would jump at the opportunity to be head coach of the Cleveland Browns, according to a source. McDaniels failed as the head coach of the Broncos and has been waiting for another shot ever since getting fired in 2010. He had too much power in Denver and was in control of adding personnel in addition to head coaching. If they limit his responsibilities to just coaching perhaps he could keep his job longer than the season and a half he was with the Broncos.

TM Cleveland Browns (CLE) University of Alabama head coach Nick Saban reportedly has no attraction to building a relationship with the Cleveland Browns and expected next general manager Michael Lombardi. One source suggested Saban wouldn't work with Lombardi "in a thousand years" and another source said there is "zero chance" Saban would leave Alabama to work with Lombardi on the Browns.

One source said Oregon head coach Chip Kelly isn't a candidate to become the next head coach of the Browns if they fire current head coach Pat Shurmur because Kelly he has the ego and personality to take on total control of football operations. That is something that Kelly would not have over owner Joe Banner.

TM Green Bay Packers (GB) The Green Bay Packers may have captured the NFC North with their Week 15 win against the Chicago Bears, but head coach Mike McCarthy feels the team is just starting to play their best football.
